"Ladies and gentlemen!
And all androgenous creatures!"
Didn't expect to get a non-binary addressing option from this episode of Star Trek.

Jim: are you sure this is where the distress signal came from, Spock?
Spock: yes, Captain. the message said they were dealing with a creature called the Unknown

Dusted off a K/S sketch I drew 6 years ago to clean up the line art:

Then I decided to play with it some more in Krita to warm it up and make it softer. The glow up:

Yesssss welcome to OG Killing Time print gang!🙌
One of my friends came back from a Book Fair at the mall, and someone was selling a huge chunk of their Star Trek book collection.
Anyway, she tossed this at me with two other books and said "They were three for twelve! I know you love Star Trek":

An embossed cover, and it was printed in 1985.
She got an OG copy of Killing Time in the $3/12 bin at the Book Fair. Ahhhhhh -

As per the article above (censored vs uncensored), this cut passage on p. 51 is a dead giveaway that you have one of the 250,000 first editions printed.
After printing the first edition, the books were ordered to be destroyed. They did destroy about 100,000 that got printed of the 250,000, but some 150,000 had already shipped. And it sold -- well.
"Pocket Books had already shipped between 100,000 and 150,000 copies of the book to retailers. When the news broke, fans began purchasing the novels before they could be removed from the shelves as the first edition was expected to become a collector's item. [Source]
Van Hise later said of that version of the novel, "If someone went looking for 'questionable material', in Killing Time, they could find it... Just as beauty is in supposedly in the mind of the beholder, so is questionable material."
More than fifty changes were made to the novel before it was republished as a second edition." [Source]
There was tons of content cut out from the First Edition that didn't make it into the second, this is just a snapshot from the article above that covers all the omitted content:

Paramount in the 70s be like: "We're trying to weed out all the gay from Star Trek content but there's simply just too much of it!" *Drowns in K/S*
Tumblr media
Roughly 150,000 copies of the First Edition of Killing Time actually made to shelves.
So there are about 150,000 potential copies of the first edition floating around out there, even though they had been ordered to be destroyed.
Also shout out to my awesome buddy Mel (still a ride or die) who accidentally brought me home a First Edition of Killing Time all those years ago. It still keeps me fed.
Oh my fucking god??? I stumbled across a first edition copy of killing time??????
