Note
what kind of music was around in the 80s
The 80s contained three distinct types of music:
New Wave
Glam Metal
Gothic Rock
New Wave was the most popular type of music, using synthesizers and incorporating cues from the post-punk world. Groups like The Talking Heads, The Flock of Seagulls, and The Gary Numan all made music that sold like pop music, but also maintained the limited creative diversity and inoffensive lack of risk of pop music.
Glam Metal took the pioneering darkness and toughness of Heavy Metal pioneered by Black Sabbath, Motörhead and Iron Maiden, then replaced it with long hair, expensive jackets, and songs about partying. The most metal thing about glam metal bands were their logos, which were airbrushed to look like they were made of metal. Sadly, the addiction of many such musicians to very tight pants rendered them all incapable of having children, so this genre didn't last beyond the 80s.
Gothic Rock by contrast ignored all pretense of popularity and embraced the pretense of unpopularity. The best gothic rock was the least popular, which made it the most popular, which in turn made it suck. Thus no gothic rock band lasted more than two albums before switching genres, failing and breaking up, and then going back to their origins with a reunion tour. Such bands embraced the dark aesthetic of the gothic revival and wrote lyrics resembling poems by Edgar Allan Poe and Edward Gorey. They were also fond of skulls, bats, and taking black and white photos in graveyards. You can easily recognize real gothic rock by the tendency of its singers to sound like they have tonsillitis and, paradoxically given their usual diet, not enough coffee.
The 80s also contained the video for "Never Gonna Give You Up," which is well known online yet rarely recognized as the breakthrough video by Simon West, future director of Con-Air. That part's real btw.

TMNT: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION
July 2024
By Kevin Eastman, Edgar Alan Poe, Jim Lawson, Tristan Jones, Gary Carlson, Chris Allan, Erik Burnham, Lloyd Goldfine, Ciro Nieli, Andy Suriano, Tom Waltz, Ronda Pattison , Tom Napolitano, Steve Lavigne, Paul Harmon, Frank Fosco, Adam Guzowski, Sarah Myer, Luis Antonio Delgado, Shawn Lee, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, Michael Dialynas, Pablo Tunica, Freddie E. Williams II, David Petersen, Ken Mitchroney, Aaron Hazouri, Dan Duncan, Sophie Campbell, Jodi Nishijima, Stan Sakai, and Emi Fujii.
Tumblr media
Come and enjoy stories that will remind you of the 40 years of turtle history.
Tumblr media
SCORE: 10 *
* Assuming you are familiar with these iterations.
This is a strange read, and curiously, there are three or four highlights for me, and they are not exactly the ones you would imagine.
Spoilers after the break...
The first story by Kevin Eastman is in the Mirage section of the book but... well... I'll leave at that... I wouldn't call it the Mirage we knew.
Tumblr media
There is a story by Lawson and Lavigne with the Rat King that... it's fun. But, you know... I wouldn't even try to fit it in canon... the amount of continuity physics you need to bend to place this story is not worth the time. Just enjoy as a new story by these two iconic Mirage artists.
Tumblr media
This other story by Tristan H. Jones and Paul Harmon requires more analysis. I'll revisit it on my gang wars video and try to give it more context... but unfortunately... it's just too vague. All I can say for sure is that it happens in the future of that incomplete saga, but the narrator just takes too many artistic choices to be taken at face value.
Also... I believe this is the first official (frontal) appearance of Agent Bishop (unless I got the character wrong, but Jones already tried to introduce him in this saga). I think he is still holding on to it, and I really hope he gets to tell his story. I wouldn't mind a mini-series... just saying!
Tumblr media
The Volume 3 story was... not for me. The dialogue alone felt tired.
Tumblr media
The Archie adventure was short, eventful, and funny... and it looks amazing too!
In just four pages a new character was introduced and... a new love story was implied! And it's not just a gratuitous cameo... this is a funny sequence.
Tumblr media
The Saturday Morning Adventures (the de facto 87 story) looks amazing as usual, but I didn't find the story that interesting. However, it started a theme that would run across most of the stories in this special after this one: Master Splinter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2003 story is a... loose canon?
Hun is Slash, and Shredder is back... so make of that what you want. All I'm going to say is that this felt a lot like watching the beginning of a 2003 episode, with the narration setting the tone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2012 story was one of the least interesting in the previews, but I have to say... it was probably one of the best. It brought back a villain and it technically serves as an excuse to continue the series?
But to me the best thing about the story is the art. I am surprised Ciro Nieli didn't do more comic book work for the Turtles all these years. In fact, if they somehow decided to continue the 2012 universe in 2D in this style... I'm all in. Well, who am I kidding... I would be in anyway... but this looks amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andy Suriano did probably the most interesting story in the book. Now, I am not sure if his style doesn't translate well to static panels or what the problem is with the comic format... but it doesn't matter... this small story brought in a lot of things that ended on the editing floor after the show's second season was reduced to a few more episodes. There was a rumor about a female turtle, and not only it is here in all its glory, but there is also a brother?
And come on... it's so Lou Jitsu to die with a cliffhanger.
Tumblr media
There are two IDW stories. One is another Splinter story, but the other one is perhaps one of the best in this book.
The Ronda Pattison story takes place just before the Armageddon game, and it shows the five turtles in full sibling dynamic (even Jennika). It was refreshing to see these turtles having fun for a change.
There are no stories by the new team, but... well... that's just starting.

Character Birthday Masterlist
This is as many birthdays as I could find for all the games I have played and anime's I have watched. Trust me there are more characters but some have no birthday dates posted. I will update this list as I go but you can always find this on my pinned post to come back and check the birthday calendars for each. Thirteen ordinary kids. Thirteen ordinary towns. Danger lurks around every corner! "Wonderful and weird, compelling and unsettling." - Gary Schmidt, two-time Newbery Honor author Get ready for a collection of thirteen short stories that will chill your bones, tingle your spine, and scare your pants off. Debut author Josh Allen masterfully concocts horror in the most innocent places, like R.L. Stine meets a modern Edgar Allan Poe. A stray kitten turns into a threatening follower. The street sign down the block starts taunting you. Even your own shadow is out to get you! Spooky things love hiding in plain sight. The everyday world is full of sinister secrets and these page-turning stories show that there's darkness even where you least expect it. Readers will sleep with one eye open. . . . A glow-in-the-dark cover and thirteen eerie full-page illustrations by award-winning artist Sarah J. Coleman accompany the tales in this frightful mashup that reads like a contemporary Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Don't miss the author and illustrator's other creepy collections: Once They See You and Only If You Dare. A Junior Library Guild Selection An ILA-CBC Children's Choice!

Hi, I'm TheLooseEnd your local SCP writer, bookworm, professional plant dad, overachiever, worry-wart and definitely human. I love helping out, though I might be a little scared of starting a conversation, so it helps if you reach out to me first. 🕊
I'm best reached over Wikidot PMs under the username TheLooseEnd.
Note; I sometimes go through phases of depression and self-doubt. Sorry if I don't make as many cozy uplifting posts as usual. I'm still trying for you guys.
☘🌱🌿🌱☘🌱🌿🍀🌿🌱☘🌱🌿🌱☘
First a couple ground rules, alright?
1. Please no sexists, homophobes, transphobes, ableists, racists, xenophobes or any other group that uses hateful or cruel rhetoric towards another person. I won't engage with a troll comment or ask, I will simply block you. This is a safe space for my readers and I prefer to keep it that way.
2. Please do not engage with my posts if you're a minor, I would prefer minors stay away from SCP content because of the nature of the site's content and the rules of signing up. I understand the enthusiasm to get into the community, but maybe wait a bit, yeah?
3. Please do not repost my content and attempt to pass it off as your own. I have seen this happen to my work before and it was very scary.
4. Please do not pressure me to come back when I'm on hiatus. It makes me really anxious and tired, which makes me want to stay on hiatus longer...
Okay? Then we can go over fun things!

My Favorite Genres
I love absurdist and surreal fiction, as well as anything with cosmic horror, a bit of comedy too along with alternate histories, speculative fiction, stories that stretch the limits of their mediums and lots of worldbuilding. When it comes to writing, I mostly mix a lot of these.
☘🌱🌿🌱☘🌱🌿🍀🌿🌱☘🌱🌿🌱☘

Things to know about me:
I have autism and anxiety (both diagnosed), which makes it a little difficult for me to keep up with certain schedules outside my normal ones. This includes posting schedules and writing schedules. I might go on long hiatuses occasionally.

Edna St. Vincent Millay: Do you have a favorite poem or one you can recite?
Thank you for the ask! (This was actually a double ask—the first one was here!)
I started answering this a bit ago, saved it in my drafts, and then panicked because I couldn’t find it immediately and I thought Tumblr had deleted it…but nope, it’s right here, just saved under the date it was asked (a few days ago) instead of the date I started to write my answer. So @dragoneye01 has gotten their answer in the form of both this published ask and a series of panicked DMs. That’s the way it goes on this hellsite, I guess.
Edna St. Vincent Millay: Do you have a favorite poem or one you can recite?
I’ll admit my taste in poetry is pretty basic (especially given I’m an English major), but here are a few I really like—and by a few, I mean eight-fucking-teen, because I couldn’t whittle down the list.
Alone - Edgar Allan Poe (when I was 15, lonely, and honestly quite pretentious and overdramatic, this one SPOKE to me)
America - Claude McKay
Antidotes to Fear of Death - Rebecca Elson
Aubade with Burning City - Ocean Vuong
A Bird Came Down the Walk - Emily Dickinson (I’m taking a whole class on her work this coming semester!!)
The Bells - Edgar Allan Poe (this is mainly because I sang a setting of it in 9th-grade choir and it was fun to sing the word “tintinnabulation”. By the way, semi-relevant post here)
A Brave and Startling Truth - Maya Angelou
How Things Work - Gary Soto
I’m Nobody! Who are you? - Emily Dickinson
Jabberwocky - Lewis Carroll (one of my last high school assignments was a presentation about nonsense poetry and how it’s translated, comparing this to the poems of Sukumar Ray in Bengali!)
Mock Orange - Louise Glück
Not an Elegy for Mike Brown - Danez Smith
The Old Astronomer to His Pupil - Sarah Williams (this is the one I often cite as my favorite poem of all time)
Planet of Love - Richard Siken
The Raven - Edgar Allan Poe (duh)
Sonnet 130 - William Shakespeare (my favorite of his sonnets, but not the one I was assigned as a member of my college’s Shakespeare club—that’s Sonnet 11)
To Live in the Borderlands - Gloria Anzaldúa
The Tradition - Jericho Brown (for my first-year writing seminar in college, I wrote a paper comparing this poem to Not an Elegy for Mike Brown, and I wrote some of the ideas of that essay in the tags here)
In terms of reciting poems, I’m pretty bad at committing poems to memory (weirdly, I feel like I’m actually better at memorizing prose). BUT, in fourth grade, I read every Shel Silverstein poetry compilation I could get my hands on, and those kinda stuck in my memory and remain there today, over a decade later. I can’t remember the exact wording of poems I wrote entire papers on, but I can still recite the entirety of Shel Silverstein’s “The Nap Taker” by heart.

The Influence of Gothic Culture on Modern Music
Gothic culture, with its dark, brooding aesthetic and profound thematic depth, has left an indelible mark on modern music. Emerging from the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s, gothic culture has developed to become a powerful force, influencing various genres, from gothic rock to darkwave, metal, and even electronic music. This article delves into the profound impact of gothic culture on modern music, exploring its roots, key influences, and its enduring legacy.
Origins and Evolution
Gothic culture finds its roots in the gothic rock scene, spearheaded by bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Cure. These pioneers crafted a sound characterized by melancholic melodies, haunting lyrics, and a dark, atmospheric aesthetic. Their music, imbued with themes of existential dread, love and loss, and the macabre, set the stage for a cultural movement that would transcend music.
As gothic culture developed, it embraced elements from other genres. The ethereal wave brought a more ambient and dreamlike quality, while darkwave combined gothic rock's intensity with electronic music's hypnotic rhythms. This fusion of sounds and styles allowed gothic culture to permeate various musical landscapes, creating a diverse and ever-developing genre.
Key Influences
Thematic Depth: At the heart of gothic music lies a deep exploration of themes often shunned by mainstream culture. Existential angst, spiritual isolation, and the beauty found in darkness are common motifs. These themes resonate deeply with listeners seeking a more profound connection with music that mirrors their inner turmoil and reflective nature.
Aesthetic and Imagery: Gothic culture's visual aesthetic—marked by dark clothing, elaborate makeup, and a penchant for the theatrical—has influenced modern music's presentation. Artists like Marilyn Manson and Evanescence have adopted gothic visual elements to complement their music, creating a cohesive and immersive experience for their audience.
Literary Inspiration: Gothic literature, from the works of Edgar Allan Poe to Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," has been a significant source of inspiration for gothic musicians. The storytelling aspect of gothic literature, with its rich, atmospheric descriptions and complex characters, translates seamlessly into the lyrical and conceptual aspects of gothic music.
Modern Gothic Music
Today, the influence of gothic culture is evident in the works of artists across various genres. Bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation have melded gothic aesthetics with symphonic metal, creating grandiose soundscapes that evoke both beauty and despair. Electronic artists such as Gary Numan and Depeche Mode have incorporated dark, gothic elements into their synth-driven music, proving the genre's versatility.
The rise of neoclassical darkwave, spearheaded by acts like Dead Can Dance, has brought a new dimension to gothic music, blending classical influences with haunting, ethereal sounds. This genre's fusion of ancient and modern elements exemplifies gothic culture's ability to adapt and evolve while maintaining its core essence.
The Enduring Legacy
The enduring appeal of gothic culture in modern music lies in its ability to provide an emotional outlet and a sense of community for those who feel marginalized or disconnected from mainstream society. Its themes of existential reflection and spiritual exploration resonate across generations, offering solace and understanding to listeners.
Moreover, the visual and thematic richness of gothic culture continues to inspire artists to push boundaries and explore new creative territories. As music continues to evolve, the shadows cast by gothic culture will undoubtedly continue to shape and influence the artistic landscape.
In conclusion, the influence of gothic culture on modern music is because of its profound emotional depth and aesthetic power. From its origins in gothic rock to its pervasive presence across multiple genres, gothic culture remains a vital and transformative force in the world of music. Its ability to evoke deep emotions, challenge societal norms, and inspire artistic innovation ensures that the gothic spirit will endure, resonating through the shadows of modern music for years to come.

Sadly, Fernando Poe Jr. and Mark Gil don’t appear in the 2005 Christmas Station ID because Fernando Poe Jr. died in September 11, 2005 of leukemia and Mark Gil died in November 11, 2005 due to a respiratory failure.
But eventually, This was the only Christmas Station ID of GMA to feature the crew from ABS-CBN, GMA and TV5. But somehow, The clips will look different in the 2010 ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID which is “Da Best ang Pasko ng Pilipino” where they set up Christmas decorations in the house. Luckily, Martin Nievera creates a portal that could transport other crew members into other dimensions.
Somehow, Arcee Muñoz, Alice Dixson, Tuesday Vargas, Ritz Azul, Eula Caballero, Aga Muhlach, Geoff Eigenmann, Gabby Eigenmann and Willie Revillame may have moved to TV5 in 2005. But Ryan Agoncillo, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and IC Mendoza may have moved to ABS-CBN in 2005.
