jokes aside, I’m glad you like the little guy! :’) His name is Said, named after Julian’s favorite uncle. Naming a child after a family member is quite common on Cardassia, so it’s a perfect fit!

Now to the matter of Garak and the baby. Since the Cardassian egg landed on DS9 by pure chance (Quark's illegal smuggling) and began to hatch immediately, there was no real alternative but for Garak and Julian to become fathers, so to speak. Garak himself, however, has serious doubts as to whether this is all a good idea. It's an inner tug-of-war for him, because the baby is now far away from Cardassia and a competent foster mother - at such a formative phase of his young life! - but at the same time... it's a feeling of being close to home again when little Said climbs on top of him. It reminds him of the days of his youth, when his own mother held him. It's a feeling of warmth that he hasn't been able to feel for a very long time.

Nevertheless, he struggles to decide whether he deserves it after everything he has done in his life.

Human! Garashir au based on that one Reddit post where one gay thinks he’s homophobic but only towards his gay roommate cause he actually has a crush on him.

Julian is a broke med student who finally moved out of his home city and applies for the first ‘Looking for Roomate’ ad he sees, so he ends up living in a two bedroom apartment above a tailor shop with the shop’s middle aged owner.

Julian is a baby bisexual and Garak is a proud queer man so Julian is thoroughly confused when Garak starts to bring around his casual partners and gay friends and it makes him upset. They spend a lot of their free time together, cooking and reading and being insomniacs, so Julian is sure he’s just not used having other people in their space. Then he snaps at his coworker, Kelas, who had become a regular at their place in recent weeks.

In a panic, Julian writes to the local paper’s anonymous column asking for advice for his newfound homophobia and is told in many polite words from many people that he is an Idiot and In Love. When he finally pulls himself together and confesses to Elim that he maybe sorta is in love with him, Elim tells him he had seen the anonymous column the morning he was posted and knew already. Then he tells Julian that if he wants to pursue something between them, it’s his choice, because he won’t chase someone so much younger than him. Julian, of course, chooses to…..

GARASHIR FICS I HAVE LOVED RECENTLY

That’s right it’s fic recs o’clock baby! 

This Be The ‘Verse series by Vermin_Disciple

If the end of the show hurt you, this is a soothing balm to ease that pain, and in such smart and enjoyable ways. There are more ensemble-focused installments as well as more Garashir & Cardassia ones, and they all rule. This is technically kid!fic, but I implore you to check it out even if that’s not normally your thing, it really is that good and it’s Playing Around with the form in some ways you might not expect. The first fic in the series, This Be The Verse, sets the stage for how all the characters end up post-show. Tell Me You See Me is set earlier in the timeline, and has an amazing suspense/mystery plot going through it as well as a really interesting exploration of Julian’s relationship with his mother, on top of all the wonderful Garashir stuff, and A Bag Full of God is a *chef’s kiss* perfect deployment of deaging as a trope to examine character development and relationships. Also incredibly funny, in the best and most character-affirming of ways. 

In general I have loved every single fic by this author I’ve had the privilege to read, so just go forth and devour it all and I hope you have as good a time as I did!  

Too Wise To Woo Peaceably series by TakePenAndInk

I hadn’t thought I’d ever be interested in a full human!AU DS9 fic, and never in my LIFE have I been so ecstatic to be proven completely wrong! The pacing of character— and relationship development is immaculate, the prose in general and Garak POV voice in particular is so deeply charming, and it has one of the best and most painful deployments of The Little Julian That Lives In Garak’s Head I’ve ever seen. Add in astonishingly well-written, stupendously well-characterized sex scenes with so much emotional depth and joy and intensity in them, and this is one of the best experiences I’ve had with reading in general in a long, long time.

This fic does such cool and interesting things with the epistolary format, and also goes ham on a part of the worldbuilding of Cardassian society that’s always weirdly skirted away from in the canon itself — how queerness would fit into the whole ‘family above all (except the state let’s not get excited here)’ idea. Absolutely nails the tone of Garak’s ‘writing voice’, and builds the other characters so skillfully too. Had me crying like a baby by the end, extremely cathartic.

TL;DR you wanna have feelings about Garashir and the field of queer history? Because you’re gonna and it’s fucking great!!!

1.) How many works do you have on ao3

9, though some of them are only visible if you're logged in.

2.) What's your ao3 word count?

64,757, not a lot but there's nothing wrong with that.

3.) What fandoms do you write for?

Star wars, lots of Star Wars. I think I wrote for Yuri!!! On Ice before? I used to write for Marvel, I did a little bit of Phantom of the Opera (very little), I have some unpublished Avatar the Last Airbender fics, and I am currently writing for Our Flag Means Death 🤭 I hope around depending on what I feel/am hyperfixating on, but ultimately it always comes back to Star Wars.

4.) What are your top five pics by kudos?

Fighting For Your Power - one of my first published Star Wars fics. Definitely not my favorite and also unfinished, a common occurrence with my ever changing brain.

If I Could Hold You For a Minute (Darling, I'd do it Again.) - Codywan. A little hurt comfort thing that takes place after the Rako Hardeen incident

Orbital Decay - another Codywan fic, probably my longest posted fic at this point in time.

And cowboy is his name - a short little bobadin cowboy au that I'm thinking of adding more onto, whether it's little snippets or an actual story is to be seen.

To Be A Good Soldier - a Commander Cody fic, kinda my own little headcanon as to how he got his scar.

5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do, it just takes me a while to get there. I'm always a little slow on the up taking. I reply to comments because someone took a brief moment of their time after reading my story to let me know their thoughts, and it means the world to me, so the least I can do is respond to their comments.

6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

A fic that no longer is on AO3 🙈 I took it down after a couple years of like....no one reading it, and decided to keep it to myself, like a dragon. The story is hurt comfort without any of the comfort lol. Poor poor Garashir, doomed by the narrative and also me.

7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oooooh let me think. Recently they all have happy endings because I myself need one. Uhhhhhh. Probably Orbital Decay. My babies get together very tentatively at the end.

8.) Do you get hate on fics?

Ehhh my fics don't get seen by a wide enough audience I think. The only 'hate' I've ever gotten was someone demanding me tag something, but it wasn't even very hateful so. No I guess not.

9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Once upon a long time ago, but I haven't in ages and frankly it makes me uncomfortable to write, always has.

10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don't, it's not something that holds my interest.

Yes and no? It's a collaborative fic, but I'm not the one writing it, I just had the base idea and give more ideas for the concept and squeal and cry over it.

It changes with the tides, but how can I pick one set of my beloveds over another?

15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?

All of them. Lol uhh I really really wanna get the Codywan AU fic written, but I'm at a point where I currently don't have it in me, I don't have much writing in me at all right now.

16.) What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue. I love dialogue. I've also been told, and I have to trust what people tell me, that I'm very descriptive and also know how to write a fight scene.

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

Lack of confidence in my skills. Inability to finish what I've started. Making sure I'm keeping people in character, and also I tend to lack in the plot department.

18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Well, I think so long as you...ugh this one is tricky cause I don't know how to phrase it. I like to write in other languages in very very small doses. A little smattering here and there. But also, I feel like it's important to know the language you're writing in or consult someone who does for accuracy? Idk how to explain it.

19.) First fandom you wrote for?

Marvel. Marvel. And more Marvel. I had a very long story (with no actual plot) posted to a different site, and then took to writing people's requests for Marvel ship fics for a time.

20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?

Uhhh idk To Be a Good Soldier? I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it will be the little OFMD fic idea I had, but who knows.

Deductive Dating Dear Doctor- Garak/Bashir (Garashir) have their 'first date'. No sex.

I Don't Blame You and Yet- Seven/B'Elanna meet up in the aftermath of Season 3 of Picard. They were married once and had a kid together. Both of B'Elanna's kids were taken over by the Borg and she's unhappy with Seven. Will they reconcile even if it wasn't even Seven's fault? (Themes of PTSD and canon compliant violence) Only implied sex.

Distraction Therapy- Seven/B'Elanna. B'Elanna has PTSD related to the Borg and yet has no aversion to Seven. When she gets triggered, Seven helps her through it. (With sex in case that isn't clear)

No One Is to Blame So- Seven/B'Elanna get thrown into the Mirror Universe and must now survive by any means necessary. Set before 'I Don't Blame You and Yet'. Sex.

Endorphin Rush- Seven/B'Elanna/Raffi where Seven takes a page from B'Elanna's book when it comes to the use of the holodeck and pain. Raffi helps B'Elanna make a point that isn't a good thing. Sex

Officer's Mess Dress- Seven/B'Elanna/Raffi Mirror Universe AU. Not the same Mirror as in No One Is to Blame. Sex

Past Is Present Is Future- Seven/B'Elanna/Raffi leading off of I Don't Blame You and Yet. They try to figure out how to make everything work with them all on the Enterprise. Sex but not as explicit as the others. Also I think this is one of my more clever titles.

Sometimes There Is No Reason- Seven/B'Elanna/Raffi that isn't quite canon. B'Elanna whump and Seven and Raffi have to rehabilitate her.

Aggressive Negotiations- Seven/B'Elanna Mirror AU. Not the same as the previous two mirrors. What can I say Mirror is fun. The negotiations turn into sex.

Spar, Foreplay, Same Difference- Seven/B'Elanna/Raffi. Mostly non-canon. Raffi accidentally walks in on Seven/B'Elanna having a spar that turns into... more. And then Raffi has to pay a belated entry fee. Sex

Hate It When You See Me Cry- Seven/B'Elanna that is basically a director's cut scene from I Don't Blame You and Yet. Sex

Control- Seven/B'Elanna AU that starts from Unimatrix Zero and ends at Picard S3. Seven helps B'Elanna thru her PTSD and trauma related to being Assimilated in an unconventional way. Kink & Sex

My Baby Shot Me Down- B'Elanna/Ro Laren, a Star Trek Defiant comics AU where B and Ro knew each other before working together on the Defiant. Spoilers for the comics. Sex but not too explicit.

If I Only Could I'd Make a Deal With God- B'Elanna/Seven/Raffi in a B'Elanna centered whump. B'Elanna has come down sick with 2 diseases, one unique to each side of her. How? And more importantly: why? Because there IS a why. No sex.

A Different Arena- My custom femshep Star Trek AU. She gets captured by some aliens and forced to fight. She's queer as hell so it counts. No sex, just violence.

DS9 Garashir SOULMATES AU

An old AU I found in my drafts--a collaboration between me and @spider-transman​ (just like our DS9 Karaoke AU)

Our story begins with Garak’s exile--ever since Garak first got his soulmate mark at age 18, he’s been trying to hide it from Tain and has taken to wrapping it up in fabric

For context: soul marks in this AU are just the name of your soulmate

At first, Tain just assumed Garak was doing it as a sign of his devotion to Cardassia and apathy towards any other loves, but after Tain presses Garak on it, Tain realises that Garak is trying to hide the mark

Anyways, this all leads to Tain forcefully exposing the mark, only to see it is not a Cardassian name--this means that Garak is inherently disloyal to Cardassia and has betrayed the state

Having essentially committed treason, Tain orders Garak’s execution and Garak escapes to Terok Nor, beginning his exile

Fast forward a few years, Terok Nor is now Deep Space Nine, and Garak spots a hot twink across the station and makes a beeline over there to go squeeze those padded shoulders

The twink tells Garak is name is Dr Bashir, then proceeds to spend the rest of the conversation stuttering awkwardly and batting a plant

Garak doesn’t really think much of the interaction until he gets back to his quarters and realises that the twink that he just flirted outrageously with is his soulmate

Garak doesn’t really want to get involved due to all the emotional baggage he has surrounding his mark, which he still covers up, but decides that since this doctor is his soulmate, he’d probably make a good contact during his exile

This arrangement quickly devolves into lunches in the replimat and intense debates over literature, which leaves Garak frustrated as, from a Cardassian perspective, this is an intense flirtation, but from a human perspective it’s just a friendly chat over lunch--however, he decides not to do much about clarifying this as he isn’t even sure what he wants from Julian anyway

The soul mark begins to flare up from agitation when around Julian, due to Garak having known Julian for so long but not getting any closer--this pain is part of the reason Garak activates the wire, and after the wire breaks Garak just learns to live with it

Eventually Garak finds himself head over heels for this smart, naïve, handsome and altogether irritating doctor, but still decides not to do anything--he feels that Julian deserves better than an ex-Obsidian Order agent who committed atrocities, that Julian would be repulsed by the advances of a middle-aged Cardassian man and that Julian could never love him

Anyways, one day during lunch with Julian in the replimat, a Bajoran visitor on the station comes up and stabs Garak in the arm--he is taken away before he can do any further damage, but the blade has gone straight through Garak’s soul mark

Julian tries to unwrap the fabric to get a better look at the wound, but Garak insists he does not and begins to lash out--however, this physical exertion and the blood loss from the wound means that Garak eventually passes out, and Julian carries him to the infirmary

Julian finally unwraps the fabric and immediately goes on medical autopilot mode--he doesn’t even notice the fact that Garak seems to have his name tattooed on his arm until after the treatment is over

Julian tries to question Garak about it after he wakes up, but Garak, in the midst of an internal meltdown, calmly insists it was just a trick of the light brought on by emotional stress and flees the infirmary

Despite extensive scouring of the station’s limited medical records on Cardassians, Julian comes up empty--seeing as soulmates would be one’s greatest weakness, Cardassia has gone to great care to make sure that no other civilisation ever knew

Exhausted, Julian relates the whole affair to Jadzia over drinks in Quark’s that evening

Jadzia, thinking she’s stumbled across a hilarious bit of gossip about a drunken mistake Garak made one night, immediately goes off and tells Kira, who absolutely freaks out--Kira knows about Cardassian soul marks from her time with the resistance and sprints off to tell Julian

Despite Kira’s best efforts, Julian is passed out stone cold on his bed and won’t wake up--however, Kira decides to camp out outside Julian’s quarters to make sure she can inform him first thing next morning

Anyways, Julian gets the fright of his life almost tripping over Major Kira’s sleeping body on his way to sickbay--this wakes Kira up, who immediately grabs Julian’s ankles and refuses to let go until Julian understands the severity of what is going on

Julian blanches and immediately begins running down the hallway; Kira, satisfied, goes to report back to Dax

Garak catches sight of Julian barrelling in his direction like a madman and Garak just takes off--an epic chase throughout the promenade ensues until Julian eventually corners Garak in Garak’s own shop

Garak tries to speak but Julian cuts him off and tells him that they are having this conversation here and now, but first--Julian quickly grabs Garak before he can make a break for it and just kisses him, right there in the middle of Garak’s shop; their noses bump and it’s all awkward but undeniably right

However, when Garak doesn’t respond Julian hesitantly pulls back, beginning to worry that maybe Kira was fed false information

Meanwhile Garak is there desperately trying to process the events of the past few minutes in his mind without having a complete breakdown

Eventually, Garak’s brain finally kicks in and he pulls Julian back in

After a while Julian breaks the kiss off to let Garak know that they definitely still need to talk about what happened, but Garak just hums in acknowledgement, wrapped up in Bashir’s arms and finally free from the ever-present burn of his neglected soul mark, too content for words

doesn't garashir fall into the "well they're both adults" bin though? like julian's like 27 at earliest point in canon like I think he's old enough to date whomever he wants. or are you talking about weird AUs and shit, or just stuff that draws attention to their age gap like Garak is specifically interested in Julian for being so much younger than him

yeah?? i don't care about the garashir age gap at all?? aside from people leaning into it to make it some weird may/december thing that sucks, usually by making julian act like a teenager or a baby like you'd expect from giving him the uke makeover or whatever

garak's probably the one who's less developmentally mature than his age because most of his life has been spent playacting and pathologically trying to appease his father
