Every time I go to the doctor recently I come back with more ridiculous diagnoses that have treatments straight out of the Middle Ages. Yeah, I'm taking ox bile for my digestive upset and now I have to get blood let because of an excess of iron... Next week who knows. Bee stings for arthritis?

had the consult for my gallbladder surgery. the doctor told me i need to "lose 10 - 15 pounds" before they'll perform the surgery on me, and that I would need to wait 2 - 3 months before they would schedule it. i told her i have PCOS which makes it difficult to lose weight. she told me that does happen, and offered to refer me to a bariatric surgeon who is used to bigger bodies who could perform the gallbladder removal instead. i asked her for the referral to them instead
i was very angry at her for this, as 10 - 15 pounds do not make any difference when you are 300 lbs. my weight fluctuates between 280 - 340 lbs depending greatly on what i've eaten, how much i exercise, and so on. this will also vary greatly depending on if the stone is blocking my gallbladder completely or partially- if it's fully blocking the neck of my gallbladder, i cannot get enough digestive juices into my stomach to properly digest my food, so i will begin violently vomiting to get the undigested food out, and to get bile flowing into my stomach again. i begin to lose tons of weight when this happens, and i put it back on during the periods where i can get enough bile in my stomach to properly digest my food.
i can't digest my food properly. eating "healthier" will not change this- i can't digest food at all, period. healthy or unhealthy, i can't digest anything, because a good half of my digestive juices are completely missing from my guts. there is a functional issue with the way my guts work, of course i will lose weight drastically and put it back on at times. of course the issues will be episodic.
both her and the student that was working with me kept assuming that i said that my pain got worse after "high fat" meals. both of them put this in my mouth-
the student did it first. she asked when the pain gets worse and i said sporadically, but sometimes after i eat. she literally asked me "so you said it gets worse after fatty meals, right?"
i got frustrated and said "no, it's really random." i didn't get to tell her that raw leafy vegetables and lightly steamed or cooked vegetables make me vomit. broccoli and cauliflower that aren't heavily cooked, salads, raw vegetables, lightly cooked carrots, applesauce and apples in general are all problem foods.
the doctor then came in and said "it gets worse after high fat meals, right? you said that" and i went, again, "no it just kinda happens."
i don't even eat a high fat diet. i cook at home now for every meal now that i have all the tools i need to do so. i make rice, fish, pasta, and certain vegetables that i can digest like potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and so on. i eat bread, seeds, nuts, dried fruits, and drink oatmilk. i don't eat land meats, eggs, or dairy. i don't have any of those things. i do eat french fries and fish sticks, but not for every single meal. i don't eat chips because they're too salty and irritate my stomach. i don't eat candy or sweets unless the food bank delivers them to me. i don't eat much sugar other than pancakes and certain fruits
she wouldn't listen to me and went "well when you eat fatty meals, your gallbladder has to contract more and it can cause you a lot of pain." you would not believe how many times she came back to "you need to eat a lower fat diet." "the pain gets worse after you eat a high fat meal, so eat lower fat meals and your pain will go down." "just eat a lower fat diet and it'll help."
i just kind of sighed. there were tears in my eyes. i felt defeated. they made a bunch of assumptions just because i was sitting there, being fat. i was wearing long sleeves due to it being cold and they didn't get to see that i have a lot of muscle in my body mass. quite a lot. i wanted to tell them that i'm on testosterone and physically active when and where possible, and that i frequently lift heavy objects and move, but i never got a chance. i wanted to tell them my BMI isn't what they think it is, but i just didn't bother to try
i despise that people assume that fat people are fat because they eat "unhealthy" foods. i ate high fat foods for a few months while i was homeless because i didn't have the resources to cook every single meal. it affected my liver, i'm dealing with some fatty liver. but my gallbladder has more important issues in the form of the literal stone inside. she would not stop pushing for me to eat lower fat meals. all because i was sitting there, existing, as a fat person. i wish i would've told her i can only eat fish and plant matter
i don't understand how a patient telling you they're vomiting and can't keep down certain foods does not sound like a more pressing issue than an arbitrary number. weight as a number means nothing, it tells you nothing about that person's actual body composition. i have trauma with vomiting and yet i'm going to have to keep doing it anyway despite the fact that it could kill me via dehydration or if i just. can't stop
either way i'm very unhappy with result as i already waited for a month for this consult. now i have to wait for a referral for another surgeon to go through, and to do the consult with them, too. all while being in pain and having GI issues the entire time. just because a surgeon doesn't want to take the time to learn how to operate on fat bodies. i'm tired. what a joke

my first astrology observations post! ✰
-every cancer moon i've known is very close to their mother, sometimes codependent (makes sense, as the moon can represent our mother and cancer is ruled by it). a celebrity example is taylor swift - her mom is her best friend and it seems she relies on her for a lot of emotional support.
-leos aren't the selfish sign they are always portrayed as. i mean, many sterotypes in astrology for sun signs don't fit since you need to look at the whole chart. but i think aries is more self-centered - they are ruled by the first house of self, and the "babies" of the zodiac. they tend to think about their own needs first, and act impulsively from ego sometimes i've seen.
-the house that your asteroid narcissus(37117) is in can indicate how you've been ego-driven/selfish in certain areas of your life. mine is in the 3rd house (rules over siblings) and my brother and i were always at each others throats, hitting each other where it bruises our self-esteem. are not on speaking terms. interestingly enough we're twins so he also has this placement.
-my bf is a virgo venus and his love language is acts of service! i imagine this goes for most with this placement, since virgo rules over the 6th house (keywords: service, routine, etc). he also has a moon trine ceres, super nurturing placement
-(tw: weight) he also has pluto in his first house and lost a lotttt of weight years back. it's common for individuals with this placement to undergo a physical transformation, maybe even plastic surgery.
-leo and capricorn risings often have thick hair!
-sooooo i think health is a tricky subject with astrology but hear me out. i have my mars in the 6th house and i had my gallbladder removed, plus i have gut issues. the 6th house is linked to health and specifically the digestive system, and mars is tension. it just makes sense haha

“According to Eastern medicine be it Indian, Chinese, Tibetan or Thai, the left side of the body is totally different from the right side. Even some Buddhist monastic traditions include within their precepts for monks to sleep on their left side. Although it sounds weird resting and sleeping on the left side has many health benefits.
The lymph drains to the left.
The left side of the body is the dominant side of the lymphatic system. Most of the lymph drains down to the thoracic duct which is located on the left side. In its path the lymph transports proteins, glucose metabolites and waste products that are purified by the lymph nodes to be drained to the left side.
Derived from the above it is common to deduct in Eastern medicine that the diseases of the left side of the body may be due to chronic congestion of the lymphatic system.
The priorities of the body.
According to ayurveda congestion occurs in the body following certain priorities. If the lymphatic system is digested, the liver and blood are subsequently saturated with toxic substances. Primary symptoms of congestion present on the left side of the body before moving to the right side where they make their later appearance.
Feeling bored after a meal?
The Indian suggestion is that if you take a break after eating, do it lying on your left side. The rest should not exceed 10 minutes and is different from the evening nap which is usually 20 minutes or more.
Stomach and pancreas hanging to the left side. When you lie on your left side both naturally hang allowing for optimal and efficient digestion. Food is driven to move naturally through the stomach and pancreatic enzymes are secreted in a paulatin way and not in a single stroke, which happens if you lie down on the right side.
Laying on your left side your liver and gallbladder hang from your right side. Resting on the left side allows them to hang and secret their precious enzymes into the digestive tract, emulsifying fats and neutralizing stomach acids.
When the digestive system is stimulated this way your digestive cycle is shorter and doesn't leave you stranded for the rest of the afternoon. Try resting 10 minutes on your left side after eating.
Feel energized and not tired after eating.
Try to eat in a relaxed way mid-day and don't forget to rest on your left side and check that you will feel more energized and with better digestion.
Sleeping magic from the left side.
Best elimination.
The small intestine flushes toxins through the ileocecal valve (VIC) on the right side of the body at the start of the large intestine. The large intestine travels down the right side of your body, crosses your stomach and descends down the left side.
Through the VIC, sleeping on the left side allows gravity to stimulate bodily waste into the large intestine from the small intestine more easily.
As the night passes and continue sleeping on your left side the debris moves more easily toward the downward column and morning removal will be easier.
Best cardiac function.
More than 80% of the heart is located on the left side of the body. If you sleep on the left side the lymph drained to the heart will be driven by gravity taking work out of your heart while you sleep.
The aorta, which is the largest artery in the body, comes out from the upper part of the heart and is arched left before going down to the abdomen. By sleeping on the left side, the heart pumps blood more easily into the downing aorta.
Sleeping on the left side allows the intestines to move away from the cava vein that brings blood back to the heart. Noticeably the cava vein rests on the right side of the thorn, so when you lie down on the left side the viscera move away from the cava veina. Again gravity makes the heart job easier.
The sparrow is on the left side.
The spleen is part of the lymphatic system and is also on the left side of the body. Its function is that of a large lymph node which filters the lymph and additionally filters the blood. When you lie on the left side the fluids return to the basin is easier and is more easily produced by gravity.
The lymphatic system drains all cells in the body through contractions and muscle movement and not by heart pumping. Helping the lymph drain into the pelvis and heart with gravity is a simple way to purify your body.
And while there are no scientific protocols on it, sleeping on the left side does make sense. Understanding ancestral wisdom based on knowledge of modern anatomy clears up many doubts about the reasons that exist in the east to sleep a certain way.”

Fun fact I found out yesterday. IBS shouldn't give you jaundice, I've been getting deep yellow patches around my eyes with episodes since covid hit my digestive system in 2020.
If you've had your gallbladder out please stick Postcholecystectomy syndrome in a search engine - it affects more folks than you'd think.
Long post
I thought my liver just was collateral in whatever digestive nonsense was going on but it could be post gallbladder syndrome as it started after the surgery.
According to a new collated study from 2023 and my profile: a long wait for the surgery and the type of blockage (sandy sludge) meant I had a 1/3 chance of IBS like complications.
At the time, they knew that least 10% of all gallbladder removal patients get serious issues.
I've been avoiding fat as much as possible but there's only so much you can do. I can't eat an avocado for example.
It's also triggered by hunger which is fun with forgetting to eat/not knowing you're hungry being an adhd classic👌
So uh again, stick all your symptoms into a search engine because your doctor isn't wikipedia
and will let you try every exclusion diet possible, figure out on your own that 25g of fat (even good ones like nuts) is your limit and let you believe you developed IBS for ten years because they're not machines who remember this stuff (and no the surgeon never checked in either).
At least, we found out that blood thinners massively increase my quality of life and blood pressure during that post op treatment.
I'm getting scanned asap and doing home medical 'science' on whether ox bile pills make things better or worse or no effect because the bile malabsorption test is a little more complicated.
I got another month of candida treatment because it's not working enough, I've regained a few tastes and that's been magical. Fresh peas in the pod, the particular meaty taste of pork, still don't have berries just their sharpness and stuff is still mostly textures (plus salt chilli and ginger burn) but what little filters through reminds me that I do love enjoying meals. ☺️🥕🦐🥖😊
I'm going to double it and take it in two weeks instead of four. I wasn't forceful enough to get through that it needs a bigger dose when you have a duff immune system and i'd got one win (abdominal scan) so couldn't push it.

okay so, to have a place for consolidated information for the next little bit, since i'm sure folks have QUESTIONS given my incredibly aggressive gallows humour
MOCHI, WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT?? (guts edition)
if you got here via a link, follow this link instead for the latest update here's updates 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0 !
tldr ive been getting a number of recurrent small bowel obstructions located in my duodenum (first part of the small intestine, connecting the stomach to the rest of the bowel) due to external pressure on the duodenum around the 3rd to 4th (of 4) section. what's causing the pressure?? no clue actually ive done a bazillion scans and none of them have been quite clear enough for a real confident dx so i get to have surgery about it at some point in the near future
current theory is the pressure is from some sort of non-cancerous tumor mass and the plan is to cut me open nice and big, look about, and remove both this mass and the affected section of the duodenum (.5 of an organ) at a minimum, but may involve fully bipassing the duodenum when my guts get hooked back up to my stomach which could (would???) also require removing my gallbladder (1 and 2 organs respectively) (i'm having so much yanked out of my abdomen this summer jfc)
atm i'm still waiting for scheduling to give me a call to set things up. surgeon's estimate was 4-5 weeks from now (8/17 when he called). from that point i'll spend a week-ish in the hospital to make sure all hoses are firmly affixed, and then i'll have a month at a minimum before i'm reasonably healed and can go back to normal life
i have good insurance and the luck (????) of being incredibly ill at the best of times, so i've already hit my out of pocket max and thus this WHOLE THING even back dating to my first er visit end of june will cost a whopping 189$ that i've already paid. i also should qualify for my states paid medical leave and my wife will get a hefty chunk of change for living expenses via student loans. however, both those things won't hit until late september at the earliest
long term, im not expecting much of a financial burden, but short term we could use a hand with groceries and similar while we wait for my backpay and my wife's student loans
for venmo and paypal: i am @/sumomomochi for both and either is fine, though pp is labeled as a business account so pls mark f&f if you can
i also have this amazon wishlist ( https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/N1NSTH3JPCX2?ref_=wl_share ) that is like 90% meal replacement shakes and bulk shelf stable snacks, but also has a couple of other useful things like bathing wipes since i am unlikely to be able to shower well post surgery, pj pants for when it cools down (i went up a size with t because my ass and thighs got just so beefy and thus have one pair that fits rn lmao), and cat food for the penni (gotta keep my nurse well paid)
uuuh what else
like i said, i'm incredibly ill at the best of times so i am a champ at weathering this sort of stuff its nbd. "i'm sorry"s are not helpful, i'd much rather have people ask direct specific questions, either about my health status or things i'm doing to keep busy (ie "any new and fun things causing tummy issues?" or "hows your battle vest coming?" or "whats your fav line youve written this week?"). engagement and entertainment is Important to keep me from climbing the walls but i swear i will bite at straight sympathy
things ive been doing to keep me out of the er include: laying on my left side or stomach (The Digestion Position; helps get food past the squished part); eating a semi-liquid diet (hence ensure, jello, pudding, the like, though its important that i also eat solid food as much as is tolerated, which is such a delicate balance. this is why i cannot currently work); going on stupid little walks for my stupid digestive health (honestly the most important thing i can do, which im mad about, because it requires pants, but not only encourages guts to digest but also will help me not decondition, which i have already done a lot of :I)
things YOU can do to help (because i know *i* am a helper but also what is actually helpful??): financially with the above deets (no pressure); asks, comments, and other conversational interactions (i am absolutely chill with basically any kind of question and i dont mind dms if youd prefer privacy, just dont pedestal me i promise i am just A Dude); fanart for my fics (i do not care if you "cant draw" i will still love it); prompts for fandom but not necessarily fic projects (wardrobe moodboards/meta for characters, playlists/songs, smut writing how to questions, cosplay progress/plans qs, those "what was x's pov in this scene/what specifically happened between x and y in this fic?" qs andor other ask meme things idk dude i haven't been able to do shit for almost three months im booooored)
in conclusion

hi all, i’ve never posted something like this on here before, but i figure it would be worth a shot.
my name is skyler, i’m 22, queer, neurodivergent, and disabled. i currently have been diagnosed with inflammatory polyarthritis and am currently being tested and being seen for hypermobility, early signs of degenerative joint disease, and POTS. i’ve also had an increase in GI issues since having my gallbladder removed in january.
the reason i am making this post is because i need help.
i am currently in an incredibly toxic and emotionally unstable home environment where i am being treated with little to no respect and incredible amounts of ableism from the people i thought were going to support me — my family. but as it turns out, i was wrong. i’ve been financially cut off completely and, with me moving back to university at the end of next month freshly fired from my part time job (thanks to an injury), i am scrounging up every last penny i can find to get myself out of this house and somewhere far safer, closer to my boyfriend and my university’s campus. once i am out of this environment, i hope to never, ever have to return. i’m choosing to go no contact with my toxic family once i return to university which means that now, i’m on my own for real.
my boyfriend assisted me in organizing this gofundme, linked below, asking only for $600 to help me establish myself in a dorm at school with basic living essentials, including replacing broken mobility aids, paying for medical expenses, and purchasing foods healthier and better for my digestive system. i am terrified of not having enough to exist once i’m out of here. everything falls on me now, and i’m just 22. i don’t know how anything works, and everything is just so expensive. i hate, hate, hate asking for help, but i need it.
thank you for listening. donations, reblogs, and boosts mean the world to me.
with love, sky 🩷🪽

disabled intersex trans lesbian needs help paying for bills while sick with gallstones
hello, i'm equinox. i'm a mixed disabled intersex trans lesbian. i am dealing with gallstones, one of which is lodged in the neck of my gallbladder and causing immense pain and digestive issues. i'm struggling to keep down food, some days i can't at all. i am also dealing with an injury in my left wrist that makes it very difficult to use, flare ups from hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome and psoriatic arthritis. i am struggling with my health and am in need of help as working has become very difficult and i'm being urged to rest while i await my gallbladder removal surgery
today i was told that the surgeon i was referred to can't work on patients above a certain weight and that i would need another referral to a surgeon who is used to working with fat bodies. i already waited a month to see this person, now i have to wait again. i have bills to pay, and i'm struggling to make ends meet right now due to my low energy from dealing with my health as is
i have been bed bound lately and my body has been so exhausted to the point of nearly passing out in public several times. i have been so tired i have been falling asleep against my will. i struggle to cook some days due to being so exhausted. i'm behind on housework, and i need certain cleaning items. i'm struggling to eat regularly, as sometimes i can get sick and throw up for no reason at all.
i had 4 GI procedures this month, all of which were helpful and informative, but it's wearing on me. my mental health is very fragile at the moment as my care is being prolonged for no reason. i am frequently in tears due to how tired this has been making me. i am frustrated beyond belief because i just want to be able to eat normal meals again. i can barely eat. i can barely stay awake
i currently have to pay for my electric bill, and my internet bill:

if you are interested in helping me, you can do so in the following ways:

I do not think the things going on with my digestive system are normal. At all. They thought it was my gallbladder 3 years ago, removed it, nothing changed. Thought it was celiac or gluten intolerance, no. No intolerances. No pancreatic issues. Colonoscopy was normal. Doctor told me to ingest more fiber and that's it. Doesn't help. Thought the pain in my lower abdomen could be ovarian, because I have reproductive issues too, ultrasound showed nothing there so it's probably digestive. I'm still sick to my stomach every day after every meal even when I don't eat too. I feel...given up on. Like no one takes my issues seriously. No follow up with GI specialist. No upper endoscopy no contrast imaging. Constant pain and nausea and other stuff I'd rather not discuss. And I'm scared to even bring it up to my doctor because I don't want to go back to that GI specialist i was referred to that gave up on me after waiting half a year for goddamn appointments. I want to not be miserable every time I ingest food or drink. I want the pain and GI symptoms gone. I'm so literally sick of this and of nobody taking it seriously or following up on it. It just makes me angry. Like at this point I want to be done and not care like I am with everything else but I can't be, I'm too fucking pissed off. I'm sick of being sick.

(edit: technically it's kinetic not active but u get it)
ok so turns out the "tummy hurts disease" is called "Hyperactive gallbladder" and the one (1) (only) solution is to remove our organs
....which i predicted months ago in SEPTEMBER when this started, telling our doctor "hey this seems gallbladder related"
but the doctor ignored me. and Seán (although we share a body so that's not a huge jump for him prolly). and our mom. and our grandmother, who is a retired doctor.
and we were forced to do like fifty unrelated tests and take medicine that didn't help. but now that we has like three relatives yell at him he tested our gallbladder and it's like 14 points pasts the "this is too high" mark. SIGH.
(more ranting under cut)
plus since under-active gallbladders are more common than overactive and were researched sooner, not all doctors know about them depending on when they finished school, so depending on his response we might have to email him all the studies n shit and yell at him AGAIN, so bigger sighhhh.
girl i can't eat more than 3 grams of fat without experiencing indescribable pain that renders me immobile for hours what the fuck why is this such an ordeal I just want us to be BETTERRRRRR
on top of all that, once we remove it we'll still have to eat under 3 g for a whille, and then slowly work our way up, and if we fuck up even a little bit and up the ammount too soon we risk ruining the entire healing process forever, so wether our body learns how to digest fat without this organ depends entirely on: 1- my patience and impulse control (NOTORIOUSLY HORRIBLE, Seán's is good but mine is dangerously low) *
2- our collective ability to understand when to know it's okay to eat more, considering we'll be given a rough schedule but everyone's body is different so there's no guarantee it'll be late enough if we just eat in the blocks given.
*- bonus- how often people tempt us or go "oh well maybe it's okay...you should really give it a shot haha,,, why not," which has already gotten us food related pain like three times because someone went "this can't have THAT much fat right?" and encouraged us to eat when we initially said no and then I gave in (because. no self control and also this was before we found out the exact gram ammount) and it hurt really bad
GIRL I'M SO FUCKING SCARED I'M LOSING IT

glad it’s not too bad! I didn’t even know what was happening to me until one day where I was vomiting every 30 mins for like 6 hours and went to the emergency room & got an ultrasound - absolutely brutal stuff. But since you know what the issue is you’ll probably be able to stay ahead of it a bit better than that hahaha - sending you good gallbladder energy!! the good news is that even if you do have to get it removed eventually it’s amazing how your digestive system basically turns back to normal instantly.
augh I'm so sorry it went that way for you that sounds awful
I appreciate the good gallbladder energy lol
Yeah knowing is half the battle right. The other half is anticipatory dread
God that's good huge if true cause I miss burgers....like even if I get indigestion still ill take that any day over potentially angering the Rocks. Yk
