DA:I Cullen Headcanons part 2: Flirting

The first times you flirt with him more openly he can only reply with a few words and be forced to clear his throat. Later when you’re gone he’ll come up with better replies and kick himself for not coming up with them in the moment, and next berate himself for wanting to, because it was all in his head anyway and there’s no way the Inquisitor would ever flirt with him.

In the beginning Cullen is absolutely gobsmacked that you - that anyone - would find him attractive. He hates the scar on his lip, he dislikes his curly hair and he feels clumsy and brutish. He has such a distinctive remorse and dislike of himself due to traumatic past experiences, that he has trouble imagining anyone wanting to get involved with such a mess. The painful withdrawals and crippling self-doubting absolutely do not help.

As your relationship deepens and as his withdrawal symptoms get easier his confidence grows, and eventually he will delight you with small shows. 

When he’s training or sparring and he notices you watching him, he might casually take off his shirt on a warm day and continue as if it has nothing to do with you. From the corner of his eye he catches you raise your fingers to your blushing cheeks and mumble to yourself, and he knows it’s all worth it. He’ll try not to show his smugness, but he gets such a confidence boost that he wins the sparring session.

When your relationship has developed into intimacy, he’ll sometimes happily let you watch him get out of the bath and dry himself. He’ll chuckle and shake his head as you coo and swoon at the sight of him, ever so slightly flexing his muscles as he pats himself dry. 

When you are spending time alone together in the evenings, he might nonchalantly leave his undershirt open to expose his chest and abdomen. By then he knows from experience you can’t resist for long running your hands over his chest, eventually following the narrow trail of hair leading down from his navel into his breaches.
