keeping up with gbbo discourse (yes that's a thing) this season is wild bc it ranges from "why the fuck is carole peeling an avocado like a potato" (hilarious) to "i can't believe british people literally don't know what pico de gallo is" (funny but also sad) to "cultural bakes should be better researched and not judged by two old white brits who mispronounce tortilla" (valid) to "a contestant's unfamiliarity with a dessert should not automatically disqualify them from doing well in a technical, and a recipe that includes no clues as to how to even approach the bake isn't a good thing" (absolutely valid) to "prue and paul did not provide a recipe for the technical which is Morally Reprehensible and so they are Evil" (batshit insane)

Petition for Gordon Ramsay to replace Paul Hollywood on GBBO. And before anyone says Ramsay is way meaner, he is only mean to people who deserve it. I fully believe Ramsay would be way nicer and give better constructive criticism and be less condescending than Paul Hollywood.

We're watching the second season of the Roku version of the Great American Baking Show, which was filmed in the UK. (Haven't seen season 1 yet, so don't spoil us, and in fact don't spoil us for this one either as we only just started the semifinal.)

Spouse commented on the contestants' consistently poor performance on bread relative to British contestants. But I have to wonder if it has anything to do with bread flour in the US being much higher in protein/gluten, and the bakers don't have much experience working with lower protein flours that you get in Europe.
