From a Legends (Legend’s) Point of View 2024

Background

From a Legends Point of View (or From a Legend’s Point of View, see what we did there?) is a Star Wars fandom fic event dedicated to celebrating the characters and stories of the Star Wars Legends continuity during and around the time of the Original Trilogy (OT).

Building from the talents of the many writers in the Star Wars fandom, we hope to develop and share a diverse collection of approximately 40 stories of pilots, smugglers, spies, scoundrels, and other characters from the original Star Wars Extended Universe in mid-September 2024.

How It Works

At signup, writers will each pitch at least three (up to five) different ideas for a fic of 5k-10k words to write for the collection. The pitches should focus on Legends characters or situations during the Original Trilogy and must fit the other story and pitch guidelines listed below.

Mods will review signups and assign one pitch from each writer to be written for the collection, with a goal of creating a collection with stories covering a variety of OT-era time periods, characters, and events.

Writers will submit their fics to a collection on Archive of Our Own (AO3), which will then be shared with the fandom.

Story and Pitch Guidelines

All stories should be set during or within six months of the events depicted in the Star Wars Original Trilogy films (0 BBY - 4ABY), and set within the main Star Wars galaxy (aka the Galaxy Far Far Away/GFFA).

Stories should focus on characters and/or events in the Star Wars Legends continuity, which can include any characters who appear in the three Original Trilogy films as well as characters from the Legends novels, comics, video games, or other materials.

Shipping guidelines: Stories should not be focused on romance or shipping and should not include smut. References to ships among characters in the story or among other characters are fine, but please limit these to mentions (for ships that do not include the point of view character) or subtext (for ships that do include the point of view character). Within these restrictions, any ships are allowed, regardless of whether they are considered canon in the Legends continuity.

Ratings and archive warnings: Any ratings or tags are allowed, as long as stories are appropriately tagged and follow the other story guidelines (e.g., no smut).

Each writer will submit at least three and up to five pitches for stories they would be willing to write for the collection. Across all the pitches, stories should feature a minimum of at least three different characters and a minimum of at least two different time periods during the OT. To ensure that we include a wide range of characters and stories in the collection, at least two pitches should feature a point of view character who is not one of the Original Trilogy main trio (Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo), and at least one pitch should feature a point of view character who is not another prominent OT character (Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO, Darth Vader), nor a member of the Rogue Squadron “Fab Four” (Wedge Antilles, Wes Janson, Tycho Celchu, Hobbie Klivian).

Stories for this collection are intended to add to the universe of fic we have for Legends; please do not submit pitches for stories you have already written and shared elsewhere, even if they fit the other guidelines.

Signup and Submission Details

Signups are now closed as of the end of the day June 2, 2024.

Once all signups have been reviewed, one of the mods will contact you via the information provided to let you know which one of your story pitches has been accepted (your assignment), and will provide instructions on how to submit your assignment to the collection.

We will also provide a signup form for people who would be willing to serve as a beta reader or cheerleader for other writers. Writers can request a beta reader when they sign up, or at any time before the beta request deadline (approximately two weeks before assignments are due). Betas may be available on a more limited basis after that deadline, but cannot be guaranteed.

Mods will check in with all writers twice over the course of the writing portion of the event to see how they are doing and connect them with a beta reader, cheerleader, or other assistance as needed. Please be sure to check your messages regularly and respond promptly to messages from the mods.

If you realize you will be unable to complete your assignment in time, please let the mods know as soon as possible, but definitely prior to the August 11 dropout deadline. That will enable us to reach out to find potential pinch hitters as needed.

Assignments are due Sunday, September 8 at any time. You will submit your fic via AO3, mods will confirm that it follows story and tagging guidelines, and it will be approved for the collection. The collection will be open for submissions a few weeks ahead of the deadline if you wish to submit early.

Because we intend to reveal these stories as a collection, please hold off on sharing or promoting your story until the full collection is released on September 15. After that time, please promote your story and others in the collection as much as possible!

Leia is having the most elaborate wedding this family has seen since the last time the Amidala family was at court with the Bourbons. Din thinks his biggest problem is going to be hiding his attraction to Grogu’s Scout leader, that is, until he hears something start to follow them through the woods.

Right at the bottom of the page, in smudged black ink, is a listing from the natural history museum looking for a new nighttime security guard. Now that was an interesting thought. - Or, Din is a struggling single father who becomes the natural history museum's new night guard. He's not expecting much out of the job other than a steady paycheque, but when the sun goes down and the exhibits start to come to life, Din needs to find a way to keep everything under control. A task easier said than done, especially when there's a certain Medieval knight who won't leave him alone.

Close Quarters - Part 1

Summary: Frustrated by the difficulty of gathering intel for the Clone Underground, Captain Rex finds comfort in Senator Riyo Chuchi and her bedroom on Coruscant. The two persuade Echo to join them.

Pairings: Captain Rex x Riyo Chuchi (Rexiyo), Echo x Riyo Chuchi (Echiyo)

Word count: 2.2k

Warnings: Smut. Porn without Plot. PiV, oral (F receiving). Implied established relationship between Rex and Riyo. Mention of Foxiyo.

Notes: The total word count for the whole fic is around 15k. I hadn’t intended to divide it into parts, but even I had trouble keeping it straight as I was writing it in one giant doc. And given these aren’t popular pairings, I want to keep it short for anyone who wants to dip in without committing to a 10k+ fic. No disrespect meant to Foxiyo, I included it because I prefer the idea of Riyo and the clones as sexually experienced, so a little history helps, and I genuinely believe it motivated The Bad Batch writers to characterize Riyo as a clone rights advocate, i.e. they couldn’t give her Fox because canonically, he’s dead by the time “The Clone Conspiracy” takes place, so they gave her every other clone in the galaxy instead lolol And so, in honor of the Senator’s de facto status as mistress protector of clones, I give you this. I am both deeply sorry for and profoundly proud of it.

Rex hurls his helmet across the room. It bounces off the transparisteel and lands between the sofa and the coffee table. He follows after it and sits with a groan on the lounge chair by the windows.

“Feel better?” Riyo stands on the other side of the room and quirks an eyebrow.

Rex looks up, his anger beginning to burn out, and shakes his head. He rests his elbows on his knees, one bouncing to the beat of his heart, and rubs his scalp with both hands.

The passage of the Defense Recruitment Bill had accelerated the clones’ obsolescence. Disgruntled troopers were leaving the Empire in droves, and Rex and Echo were having trouble reaching them. Public assurances from the Imperial Information Bureau maintained that the clones were free to leave and retire peacefully, but Howzer’s intel suggested otherwise.

Rex needed more information before he could decide on a course of action, which meant he and Echo were spending more time on Coruscant than they had planned. They insisted that Trace’s garage was secure, but after witnessing the violent deaths of Slip and her guards, Riyo was convinced that the only safe place for them was her apartment where no one would dare attempt another attack topside. The clones, for their part, thought it best to stay close to their new ally and protect her from any more assassination attempts. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Echo stands in the doorway and turns to the Pantoran guards flanking it. “Why don’t you two get some grub? Rex and I will be up for a while.” He seals the door shut and keys the lock on the panel as they leave.

Riyo kneels in front of Rex. She brings his wrists down and meets his furrowed face with a gentle gaze. “It was never going to be easy, Rex.”

He searches her soft features for comfort and finds it instantly. He sighs, closes his eyes, and leans forward to meet her forehead. She follows suit and finds his cheek with hers, their noses slotting next to each other. She massages his jaw with both hands and presses her lips to his temples, his cheeks, and his nose before lingering on his lips and finding an open-mouthed kiss. 

Rex and Riyo had spent enough nights together that she knew how to soothe him.

Echo looks down, unsure of what to do. He clears his throat to remind them he’s there. “We need to rethink our strategy,” he announces to the air.

Rex moves his lips to Riyo’s cheek with a sigh, steadying his breath. “We need to rest.” A full standard year of building a covert network on his own had started to weigh on the Captain.

“Echo,” Riyo, still kneeling, swivels around to face him while Rex buries his face in her hair and his hands in her waist, “why don’t you take a shower? Rex and I need to—”

“Understood.” Echo eyes the floor and heads down the hall. He’d gotten used to making himself scarce while Rex and Riyo “talked.” Not that he begrudged them their time together — he was happy his brother could find relief with someone like the Senator — but he wishes he could find something similar elsewhere. As it is, his one good hand wasn’t providing nearly enough comfort, and he didn’t dare venture out into the lower levels while clone deserters were still being hunted down.

Echo takes his time in the fresher. He’s giving the Captain and the Senator their space, but he’s also enjoying the clean facilities. The Marauder wasn’t equipped with a lavatory, and the Batch rarely stayed at any one location long enough to secure ready washrooms. They often had to make do with the sink at Cid’s Parlor or otherwise incur another charge per hour to use her shower. Echo was just glad he didn’t have to rush.

When he finishes and exits the fresher, he finds the usual arrangement: pillows and blankets piled on the lounge chair by the window, a tray of food on the dining table, and Rex and Riyo confined behind her bedroom door. The apartment is quiet for now, but Echo knows their muffled sounds will float down the hall soon. Rex always assures him that they try to keep quiet, and Echo always assures Rex that Fives had been worse. They both know that all clones are accustomed to being within sight and earshot of each other’s trysts — unpredictable leaves and voracious appetites had often made every nook and cranny of every Republic base a hotbed for all kinds of sexual activity — but they make the effort to respect each other’s privacy anyway.

After eating quickly, Echo arranges his bed on the lounge chair, lies down, and stares at the lights dancing across the ceiling, the low drone of Coruscant’s nightlife speeding past in shadows. He hopes he falls asleep soon, but a part of him waits for the telltale sounds of the Senator. He’d gotten to know her moans well in the past few weeks, and given Rex’s agitated state tonight, Echo knows she’ll sound especially pleased. And sure enough, her moans reach his ears not long after his hand had found his shaft and started pumping. He closes his eyes and pieces together several scenes.

Riyo on her hands and knees as Rex slams his hips into her haunches. Rex flat on his back as Riyo grinds her hips into his pelvis. Riyo on her back and Rex letting his full weight fall into her with each thrust. Riyo writhing with Rex’s head buried between her thighs.

Echo loses himself in his fantasies. He spits in his hand and finds a rhythm to match Riyo’s moans. He tries to contain his breath, but low groans escape. He’s so focused on release that he misses the sounds from the bedroom stop minutes ago.

“Need a hand?” Riyo’s voice floats soft and light from the end of the hallway.

Echo’s eyes snap open, his hand flies to his side, and he sits up to face her. His feet find the floor, and he tilts forward to hide his erection. “Senator, I-I was, uh… mmm…” He clears his throat, looking for creative inspiration, and finds none.

Rex appears behind Riyo. He’s bare-chested with a Pantoran guard’s purple pants hanging loosely around his waist. He squeezes her side through her silk robe and kisses her cheek before heading towards the kitchen. “Everything alright?” The lilt in his voice and the spring in his step announce his lighter mood.

Echo’s trapped motionless by Riyo’s gaze. She smirks and offers a modicum of relief.

“I apologize, Echo. It must be har— difficult,” embarrassment flashes momentarily on her face, “for you to be here while Rex and I—”

“I-It’s nothing, Senator, really. I-I’m used to it.” He rubs his knee, trying to disperse some of his heat through the cool titanium. “Most clones are.”

“All the same, is there anything I can do?”

Rex chimes in as he crosses from the kitchen, a glass of water in hand. “When was the last time you got any action? You can’t get much time away from Omega and the rest of the squad.” He hands Riyo the glass and extends an arm to the wall, framing her as they face the windows.

The clones had never broached the subject before — their mutual reassurances had always been hurried — and to do so in front of the Senator felt like a slap to Echo’s ego. He’s sure that Rex already knows the answer and is just flexing his newly released frustrations and, evidently along with them, inhibitions. Rex watches him expectantly, waiting for a response. Echo looks down, his face starting to warm red, and rubs the back of his neck. “Yeah, I haven’t had much free time since Skako Minor.”

Riyo looks up at Rex who smirks and nods. She crosses the floor, setting the glass down on the corner of the coffee table, and kneels in front of Echo. She looks up and holds his gaze. “Tell me what you want, Echo.”

His eyes go wide, and his face heats up. “I-I just need some sleep.”

Riyo looks down in his lap and back up to his eyes. “Are you sure that’s all you want?”

“Echo, it’s fine.” Rex sits in the armchair on the other end of the coffee table. “We’ve talked about it. Besides, it wouldn’t be my first time sharing someone with a brother.”

Echo shifts as if slapped, shocked less by Rex’s admission — valuable currency among troopers of the 501st were stories of catching glimpses of the Captain's liaisons — and more by Riyo’s calm demeanor. She watches him carefully. Her face betrays no surprise or apprehension, only a warm and steadying openness.

He had had his fair share of exploits before his capture by the Separatists — his promotion to ARC trooper had been accompanied by an increased interest in his downtime — but never with a politician, someone with enough power to render his life moot with a few well-placed words. He pries his eyes from the Senator and addresses the Captain. “Fives?”

Rex nods. “Mm-hmm, a few times. I’m surprised he never roped you into—”

“He tried, but I could never get it up.” Echo matches Rex’s candor, his annoyance flaring into bravado. Rex clocks the shift and smirks.

“If it makes you feel any better, Echo,” Riyo rests her hands on his knees, “it wouldn’t be my first time with a few clones. I got to know Commander Fox and a few others from the Coruscant Guard pretty well.”

Rex scoffs. “What do you say, trooper? Let’s show her how the 501st did things better than the Corries ever could.”

Without averting her eyes from the clone in front of her, Riyo speaks up. “Rex, why don’t you clean up while I play with Echo for a while? Join us when we’re ready.”

Rex hums and stands up, giving a curt two-finger salute to Riyo’s back. “Sir, yes, sir.” He disappears down the hall.

“Think you can warm me up for our Captain, Corporal?” Her hands start to travel up his thighs.

Echo tries to smile but is still unconvinced. He raises his scomp link. “Not sure I’ll be up to the task with this.”

Riyo wraps her fingers around his rotating end and shakes her head. “That’s not a problem.” She leans up and meets his mouth with a kiss that knocks Echo breathless.

It had been longer than he could remember since he last met lips as soft as the Senator’s. He yields to her pressure, her motions sure and firm. She brings gentle hands to his jaw and prods her tongue to the seam of his lips. He groans at the contact, opening his mouth and melting instantly into hers. He didn’t realize how much he’d missed just the simple act of kissing, damp and balmy and inviting. He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her up into his lap. He breaks from her mouth and groans when she lands on his hard shaft.

“Oh! I’m sorry,” she puts her weight on her knees and backs up to sit on his, “did I hurt you?”

“No, it’s just,” he tries to shift their bodies but to no avail, “uncomfortable.” 

Not that the sensations of his hardening cock or tingling skin at the Senator’s touch had changed with his cybernetics and prostheses. Those still felt the same and were all the more comforting for their familiarity. He’d had enough time in his new body by now to know its weight and movements and limitations, but he hadn’t tested out sex with his new shins and scomp link. The few times the Batch had had enough downtime to entertain their appetites all occurred during the war when he was still unsure of himself. Rex was right: Omega had shifted their priorities in ways he hadn’t anticipated and prepared for. He could fight his way through countless battle droids and bounty hunters without hesitation, but he faltered at the thought of sex with the Senator.

Riyo giggles, her cheeks turning lilac, and stands up, taking his hand. “Let’s get more comfortable in the bedroom.”

Echo hears the shower running as they pass the fresher. The bedroom ahead glows blue and white in the darkness, Coruscant’s nightlife continuing to cast its fluorescence through the large windows. The bedsheets are strewn, and as the door hisses shut, he can smell the faint scent of sex lingering in the air, a mix of sweat and cum and Rex’s musk and Riyo’s perfume. She turns around and guides Echo by the hand to sit at the foot of the bed. She kneels between his legs and starts to run her hands up the insides of his thighs.

“S-Senator, I’m not sure—”

“You can call me Riyo, Echo, please.”

“Riyo,” he swallows hard, “I-I’m not sure I can,” he inhales deeply and steadies his breath, “perform a-as well as I used to. I haven’t— since the war, I-I haven’t…”

“It’s okay,” she soothes, pressing her forehead to his and ghosting the rest over his lips. “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. I’ll take whatever you give. But,” her hands had found their way to Echo’s fly and freed his turgid cock from his trousers, “can I at least help you with this?” She gives him two slow pumps, and he heaves a long, satisfied sigh.

“Yes, please,” he growls desperately.

Director's Cut: Making A Believer

So, first one of these. Doing this one first because @chemos-factories was the first person to respond to my poll in the Discord Server. Also, I was helped along by that meme of so many people in the fandom not understanding how nuanced a character Fulgrim is, and I got feelings.

Making A Believer

The Poet of Charoite is known to worshipers of Chaos as one of the most prolific poets to write about Daemon Prince Fulgrim. His poetry is considered sacred, copied and passed from cultist to cultist. So devoted was he, that he is sometimes known is the Poet of Fulgrim. It's even said he assisted with the Great Uprising of the Veil - when a Hive City tore a hole between the materium and the immaterium. And though specific details are lost to time, Fulgrim remembers when the Poet was a worker in a quarry.

So, let's start off with some of the basics! I really love what I did with this story. I was a bit experimental with this, and I'm not sure if that's part of the reason it's my lowest kudo'ed 40k fic, or the one with the lowest hits. Maybe it's because the POV character is an OC. I'm not sure.

And if I'm going to compare apples to apples, I don't really have much else to compare it to. I don't really have any other fics that are "an OC plus a primarch."

But I should also remember that hits/kudos/comments/bookmarks/etc are not indicative of quality. I'm very proud of the story. So let's get into it.

This fic was part of the Fic In A Box 2023 challenge. For those not in the know, it's a challenge for someone to write 10k words (or comparable in other media forms) content. The twist is, it doesn't have to be for one person.

I won't get into the specifics on how the mechanics worked for being given assignments, but I essentially had my "main" assignment, and then I had the option to trade for assignments for other people. I think there were 6 or 7 of us from 40k participating? Anyways. My main assignment was for Laylah, and I decided that I was going to write them two separate stories. Both of them were highly experimental. (The other one was The Great Lunar Height of [REDACTED].)

When looking over the collection of prompts they provided, there had been an interest in scripture for Chaos, and also a love of Fulgrim (among many other prompts).

The interest in scripture was my starting point for brainstorming.

Now, once upon a time I was a very religious person. I'm not sure if I would call myself agnostic or atheist now or what, but I had once been so dedicated that I had seriously considered going into ministry. I've done a lot of study on the Bible, and I also really enjoy reading religious texts from other religions. I enjoy reading mythologies, both ones created from existing world cultures, and the ones created for fictional settings. I've been this way since I was very little.

And so often, scripture has poetry in it. Psalms if the longest book in the Bible, and it is a book of poetry. Poetry is also intrinsically connected to hymns, since poetry is so often connected to music. And... when the poets were writing those psalms, they weren't thinking that they were going to become scripture. They wrote it because they were inspired.

Ok, cool. So let's have someone write a poem. Let's have someone write a poem about Daemon Primarch Fulgrim.

How does one even start that?

To understand how I got the start of The Poet and his life, we must back up.

When I had been plotting out my stories for Laylah, I had originally considered trying to write this disjointed "found" series of stories that follow an OC Thousand Son and OC Word Bearer try to unravel a mystery. Essentially, there is a planet that has some Weird Warp Shit going on, and they'd like to figure out how to encourage this phenomena in other places in the galaxy. The idea being very much about Resource Management, and if they can save some of their resources for something else by utilizing this, they should do it.

I feel like that makes it sound very boring. But, essentially, a planet fell to Chaos greatly helped by the natural phenomena that Chaos was able to take advantage of. The TS and WB are trying to backwards-engineer what happened.

"The Great Lunar Heist of [REDACTED]" takes place on the same world, at least 500 or so years before "Making A Believer." The log of the event is one of the pieces of "evidence" that the TS and WB find. The fic itself doesn't say Warp Shenanigans happened, but Warp Shenanigans absolutely happened. But that's a different discussion.

So. This is an undetermined time in the future. The Horus Heresy has happened and concluded. The Loyalist Primarchs are either dead or missing.

And life on this planet has also changed. The Imperium, being the parasite that it is, is leeching all the value that can be taken from this planet. The Poet works in a Quarry, and there's a lot of mining being done.

Fulgrim, while looking for ways to extend his (and Slaanesh's) influence, naturally gravitates to something familiar. Having grown up in the mines on Chemos, this planet is not that different. I don't think that Fulgrim noticed the "strangeness" that I had planned for this planet to eventually fall to and go after that specifically. It was more, he saw an opportunity, and went for it.

"Charoite" is a stone that has purple in it, but isn't a precious stone. It also made sense that it could be something easily missed as a pretty stone, if it was covered in dust. I wondered about how much Fulgrim would have looked for pretty non-precious stones as a child, and very carefully cleaning them to appreciate their colors.

So he uses these as his calling cards. I leaned hard on ideas of the Fae, because Fae are also so very prone to Excess.

I decided that I didn't want to just show some of the poetry that the Poet wrote - stuff that would eventually become scripture - but also what happened to him to get there.

I wanted to see if I could write something that reads like a horror story, but it doesn't feel like a horror story to the person it's happening to.

So, the Poet dreams of beauty, even before picking up the Charoite. He has spider plants in his studio apartment. He wants to give extras to his neighbors. His world is greys and browns but the spider plants are vibrant green. He trades for scraps of fancy soaps and uses those sparingly. (To be clear, there is other soap for him to use when he's not splurging. It's just not as nice.)

What does excess look to someone who has so little? It's it excessive to have enough?

And that's part of the horror too. Fulgrim is barely using his power to give these things to the Poet. He's giving the Poet a chance to rest. He's giving him nutrition. He's giving him someone to talk to. He's giving him a chance to enjoy art. He's giving him a chance to make art.

And I'm not gonna lie, I put a bit of myself into the Poet, in his exhaustion and struggle to create. How many days I'll finish my shift and just be so weary and barely able to do anything. Maybe if I'm lucky I can chat with my wives or my friends online.

The Poet doesn't know who Fulgrim is, at least in this story. He doesn't know he's a primarch, doesn't know about Chaos. He can sense immediately that he's royalty, but that is also because he knows how to read a room. The Poet is sensitive to supernatural things in ways he doesn't understand, which he's also picking up on. He doesn't understand why this is happening, but this dream is so beautiful, he wants to go along as long as he can.

As for writing this, I'm also not a huge fan of painting things in Black and White. 40k is an extended scathing criticism of the British Empire and the Catholic Church. 40k is a setting where there are no "good guys."

I was trying to show a more positive look at Chaos. More like, "yes he fell, but he's happy?" Or also, if Fulgrim is Evil with a Capital E, that doesn't mean he can't love people. It doesn't mean he can't be kind to (some) people. He can play favorites. It doesn't mean that the Poet doesn't get a happy ending.

Because, he does. Or, at least, he will. He'll get to stay by his Prince's side for all eternity.

The Poet starts to fall to Chaos here. And he's not worried, because Fulgrim is there to catch him when he falls.

And that's exactly what Fulgrim does.

I also wanted to play around with the idea that something Chaos is needed to make life better. Hinting at Fulgrim's role as a union organizer. How the Poet has no idea how hard Fulgrim had to fight for everything he had.

If I eventually get around to writing the larger series, the Poet is an important part of the planet falling to Chaos. He starts spreading his poetry for others to find. And he will eventually become a daemon of Slaanesh.

It's both a horror story and a story of hope.

...and this got super fucking long. I have a lot of feelings about it. If I could change one thing, it would be the summary. I'm still not happy with it, but I don't know how to better describe the story.

I can’t believe 2022 is almost over! In addition to remaining absolutely feral over my other top favorite OTPs (Hannigram, BlackBonnet, Jeraskier, I am looking at you 👀), this year I was so fortunate to get involved in the Obikin fandom, which inspired me to do some art pieces and get back into fic writing for the first time in years!

Fandoms I wrote for: Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies) and Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pairings: Every work I posted this year featured Gamora/Peter Quill and one with a dash of Gamora & Nebula. Stories with the most: – Kudos: stakes are high, water's rough (but this love is ours) – makes sense as it's the work I updated the most this year + there weren't many other new stories in the starmora tag on ao3 when it first started. – Bookmarks: same as above, surprisingly half of them are private. – Comment threads: also the same, again there being 10 chapters already def helps boost the number of comments. – Word count: once again, this love is ours sweeps with nearly 10k words.

– tangled up with you all night: my first true attempt at writing smut. it was terrifying and probably took the longest to edit but with some help from a good friend of mine I was able to figure it out. I actually have no idea if it's good or not, guess I'll find out in a few months when going back and reading it won't give me the ick about my own writing.

– better off as lovers (not the other way around): maybe it's because it's the most recent work I've posted but I'm so excited about this. not only because I'm writing this for a friend but because for once I actually have the whole thing planned out, I just need to actually write it.

– kiss (chapter 6 of this love is ours): probably the best writing I did this year.

Work(s) I'm least proud of (and why): I wouldn't say I'm not proud of any of my works, but there are definitely a few I think are not my best if that makes sense.

Share or describe a favorite review you received: There are quite a few, I love any comment in general but my favorites tend to be the ones that respond to my rambles in author's notes or don't know much about stamora/the guardians but are still able to enjoy the story. knowing I've inspired someone to read more of my favorite team is the greatest compliment I could ever receive. I also love when Zoe remembers to comment on my works instead of containing their keyboard smashes in my DMs.

A time when writing was really, really hard: Anytime this past month. Real life and family have just been taking up the majority of my time and when I do find some to write I have zero motivation. Also again trying to write smut from a man's POV which I for some reason thought would be easier since I'm a lesbian but it was not lmao.

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: Rocket's dialogue actually being in character in the first chapter of this love is ours. going back and rereading it I can hear bradley cooper's drunk new jersey uncle accent in my head.

Gamora tells herself that this late night visit is no more than a friendly gesture towards a friend in mourning. She understands the tremendous loss Peter has suffered these past few days, and the nightmares and internal blame it brings upon someone. She also knows that despite him having told the others he would be fine earlier that night, Peter needed someone to be there for him, whether he knew that or not.  It’s a thoughtful, completely normal thing for a friend to do. So why is her heart pounding in her chest as she stands outside his quarters? Because they aren’t strictly friends anymore, there’s something else there now that Gamora’s made the “thing” a spoken one. She’s never had a romantic relationship before, hell she’d practically never had a platonic relationship before meeting him. Whatever this thing between them was is now uncharted territory, and Gamora has never been one to sail risky waters.

How did you grow as a writer this year? I actually wrote. before august it had been over five years since I had posted fanfiction and maybe three or four since I tried writing any. it's been a great outlet for me these past few months and I'm so thankful for it because I probably would have gone crazy without that.

How do you hope to grow next year: write more obviously. branch out and try posting for different fandoms to get out of my comfort zone if inspiration strikes.

Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc): the gotg hive group chat, specifically: kate, maggie, zoe, vic, and claire. I wouldn't have posted half the stuff I did this year without their support and nagging. mera who helped me tweak my smut and the rest of my friends who aren't that into gotg/marvel but still read my works and support me. taylor swift for her endless supply of title inspiration, and pete wentz for his obsession with writing songs about that sunset he watched with mikey way for inspiring better off as lovers.

Anything from your real life show up in your writing: my love for Britney Spears made a cameo or two, as well as drawing on some of my own fears of love and commitment and experiences with loss and grief to help understand the mindsets of certain characters.

Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: write whatever the fuck you want because no one else is going to cater exactly to you but yourself! don't worry about stats because they genuinely do not matter and are not a reflection of the quality of your work!! have fun!!!

Any projects you're looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I'm aiming to finish this love is ours before Vol 3 and better off as lovers by march or april. I'm so excited to start working on prompt fills for @starmoraweek2023! The release of Vol 3 will for sure be a flood of inspiration for all types of different stories whether the movie ends up being good or bad (I'm really, really hoping for good). I also want to post at least one completely bugborg centric work this year because they are criminally underrated and I want to write more sapphics! There are quite a few fandoms I'd like to give a shot at writing for, mainly sitcoms and such, but I'm not sure if I'll actually get to those.

HSR put out a new Voice of the Galaxy announcement for upcoming features and it's a long read but there's a lot of good news in here. The TLDR per version:

Version 1.5

The new Team Setup Memory feature means you don't have to completely rebuild you team comps when you retry a stage, and the game remembers the last setup you used.

Battles in Memory of Chaos can be restarted without having to restart the entire stage (refunding any spent Technique Points in the process). Both halves of a stage can be individually restarted, meaning you can retry the second half without fighting through the first half again.

Nameless Glory rewards are being updated so that the 680 Stellar Jades you would get at Level 50 are instead rewarded upon unlocking Nameless Glory. They are being replaced by a Self-Modeling Resin.

Nameless Honor will be adding Levels 51-70, with each level rewarding 10K Credits for Nameless Honor and 20 Relic Remains for Nameless Glory.

The Gift of the Pathstriders (the four-star Trace materials) in Nameless Honor are being swapped out with "universal Trace Materials", and that we won't need to choose between different types of materials when obtaining the Gift of the Pathstriders.

Version 1.6

A new game mode called Pure Fiction will be introduced, where Trailblazers fight through infinite waves of enemies to rack up points within a limited number of cycles.

Memory of Chaos is adding an 11th and 12th stage.

Memory of Chaos is adding an "Auto-Clear" function that allows you to start each new MoC at later stages based on how many stages you cleared in the previous MoC. Also, finishing the later stage you start at immediately gets you the rewards from the previous stages. This has a limit and the highest stage you can start from is Stage 7.

They're redoing how phases in the Forgotten Hall work: Instead of a new Memory of Chaos every two weeks, MoC will alternate with Pure Fiction every two weeks. In addition, both Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction phases will last for six weeks each. They included a helpful graphic of how this looks in practice.

The Forgotten Hall and Pure Fiction will have new rewards including Self-Modeling Resins.

Further updates to the mission content in Nameless Honor will be coming.

An update to Relics will let you immediately level them up to levels where they gain new stats/stat improvements.

An update to Relics where they can be marked as discardable to quickly salvage items you don't need.

A "Recommended Relic" function is in the pipeline, which will recommend the most frequently used Relic sets and main Relic stats for a given character.

Relic filtering will be improved so you can search for Relics that don't have specific stats, letting you organize or trash them easier.

The number of Support characters allowed on your profile will be expanded, as well as the Starfaring Companions available and more information displayable on your profile.
