This is all true, but part of the problem is that vegetables don’t actually exist in botany. It’s used as a blanket term for edible plants. So… technically tomatoes aren’t vegetables, and mushrooms aren’t vegetables, but neither is broccoli or celery or carrot.
Carrots are roots, celery is a stalk/stem, broccoli is a flower.
Go forth and live a vegetable free life.
Honestly bizarre that tomatoes get all the flack for “not being a vegetable” because they're technically a fruit when:
A) There are a ton of fruits that get categorised as vegetables. Like this also applies to pumpkins, squashes and cucumbers.
B) The fucking mushrooms are standing there at the back of the crowd in this witch trial, trying to look inconspicuous because they somehow got into the vegetable club with no fucking controversy despite the fact that they're not even plants.

Fun fact: there is a group of moths that has evolved to live specifically in the algae-covered fur of sloths. Sloth moths, if you will.
Tumblr media
A single three-toed sloth can have up to 120 individual adult moths on it at a time, and may even have a mix of moth species.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what do the caterpillars eat? The algae? No.
About once a week the sloth sloooowly descends to the base of a tree, does a little wiggle, and drops a big one. So big that it may lose a third of its body weight in a single dump.
And when they go, female moths take the opportunity to lay their eggs on the fresh pile. That is what the caterpillars eat. And when the moths emerge as adults, they fly off to find some nice sloth fur to crawl into.
Why do they do this? The sloth fur gives them protection from predators, potential nutrients from algae and ~secretions~, and the perfect ride to the Next Big Thing™.
Photos taken by Suzi Eszterhas, wildlife photographer and trustee of the Sloth Conservation Foundation.

I have been posting daily fungi facts for about 100 days now, but I am very lazy so I'm going to go ahead and outsource one of the facts to you. I hereby request a fact about Ganoderma formosanum.
Of course!
Ganoderma formosanum, also called black ganoderma or black reishi, is a medicinal mushroom native to Taiwan. While it is edible, it is described as bitter to eat and is most often used in powders, extractions, and tinctures. A fun fact about Ganoderma formosanum is that studies are being conducted to determine it's effectiveness in helping to treat tumors! The mushroom produces exopolysaccharides (EPS) rich in beta-glucan, which can be used to help regulate and inhibit tumor growth, among other things. These same EPS can also be found in other types of yeast, mushrooms, and bacteria, including shiitake!

I didn't know about this

I forgor to post about this pin
The Gynandromorphic Angel Beetle is now available in my store!
This was a guest design from the Pride Angels campaign led by @ultrainfinitepit that I had the wonderful opportunity to be part of.
For pride month I would also like to get an alt colourway for it using the nonbinary flag.
What is Gynandromorphism? It is when an insect displays both male and female characteristincs, split right down the center of the body. A very unique yet natural phenomenon in the wild!

Fun Fact Friday: West African Slender-Snouted Crocodile
Tumblr media
Fun Fact! West African Slender-Snouted Crocodiles(Mecistops cataphractus), despite their unnerving appearances, can be amazing parents. The mothers will guard their nests until the eggs hatch. She will then dig up the nest and very gently help the remaining unhatched babies to hatch by carefully cracking their shells. The mother and sometimes the father will then protect the young until they become independent.

Facts For Scarecrow Writers #1
If a person receives amygdala damage (in a specific way) later in life it will in fact cause a lack of fear response. That person would be unable to feel fear and would have a hard time instinctually identifying what would scare other people.
They can even claim to be "afraid" of something (such as snakes) but when presented with that thing display no fear in the moment.
It also however makes it difficult for a person to identify when other people are showing signs of fear and makes them more prone to dangerous situations because they lack the inherent "somethings wrong here" instinct.

The shape of a fish's caudal tail can tell you a lot about how fast the fish moves! A rounded tail is the slowest and a lunate tail is the fastest! The lunate tail has the most optimal ratio of high thrust and low draw, making it the fastest.

Fun fact, I gave him the tentacles, after I saw @kr1s-png tiktok videos. I was like: Oh my god that is one hell of a sexy Kallamar, I have to gave tentacles to mine too. But actually, there were many, many artists Kallamars that I studied before finalizing mine. (Mostly because of his stupid legs or tentacles question in my mind)
Shoutout to the many Kallamars with tentacle hair!
I personally don't give it to him but it's a very sexy addition, glorious, even.

So the Premier of Victoria (an Australian state) posted this on twitter yesterday
Tumblr media
Someone shared it on Reddit asking if that was appropriate language for an Australian politician to be using and the entire thread is just Australians saying "only a dickhead would think this is a problem".
