Everybody, please let me introduce you to Sweet Pea!

Sweet Pea is a personal project, something that I made for myself as part of my costume for Fantasy Forest on the 21st of July. Also, I haven't made anything for myself since about 2016, so it was probably time to do so!

He measures about 210cm long, and was designed to sit around my shoulders. He has an armature in his neck and spine, but his legs and tail are floppy, weighted with plastic pellets for a nice feel. His jaw opens and closes, and he really is quite friendly, I promise!

I really wanted to use colours I've not used before, so why not hot pink? Also, I'm in love with how much his blue eyes and mouth really stand out, along with his blue collar and bright bell:)

I'll post photos of my costume and him in a couple of weeks, but if you're going to Fantasy Forest on the Sunday, I'll be there, so you can come say hi and give him a cuddle. I'll also have some trinkets to trade if you're game!

Really pleased with how he turned out. I'd love to make more of this style of puppet, so if you're interested, let me know!

Tortoise Storytime!

For most of his life, the scale burger lived in an enclosure that was about 7.5 square feet (~0.7 square meters). This is usually way too small- but he lived in a facility that always had someone on staff, letting him roam the floors while they worked on something nearby.

During covid, I worked at this reptile facility to replace workers who were higher risk and staying home. And I feel deeply in love with this lil bean of a tortoise. He was incredibly vibrant and friendly, was so habituated to humans that he didn't even have an instinct to retract into his shell, and was just flat out adorable.

A year after moving away for my PhD, my old boss reached out to me and asked if I could provide a good home to any of the animals. I instantly asked for this guy.

Unfortunately, I absolutely felt like I made a mistake for a while. I quickly realized that, as busy grad student that worked during the day, I couldn't be letting him roam outside of his small enclosure all the time. For the past year, I've been doing the best I can, experimenting with small enclosures, outdoor time, and floor time to best address his needs. But it always felt temporary and subpar.

As a Russian Tortoise, he has a partial hibernation cycle. For some weird reason, his is inverted with the actual seasons. So when he settled down in the late spring and started pseudohibernation, I could breathe easy for a bit. I left him with some caretakers over the summer, who didn't have much trouble with a sleeping tortoise, and went around having my adventures.

But I knew I wanted something nice waiting for him when he started being active again.

Introducing: the tortoise palace

I had several things in mind for a new enclosure. I wanted it to maximize space in my apartment, maximize my space in my apartment, and have somewhat easy teardown in case I have to move. So, I lifted my bed to be about 4 feet off the ground, and made the enclosure under it. The entire setup is in latched-together pieces that can easily be taken apart and set up again.

I've added climbing enrichment in the form of garden bricks, rocks, and multiple forms of substrate (orchid bark as the main, reptibark, coco coir, and rabbit pellets in deeper dig boxes) but I'll be adding more as time goes on. He's been loving climbing around and I can't wait to see what he'll do with other stuff.

It's an ongoing project, and there's a lot of "temporary solutions that are kinda-permanent" in here, but I'll be fixing those over time. Notably, the walls are pretty low- he can't get out, but I have to be cognizant of putting things he can climb on near the edges. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears! But for now, here's the beast, his unfathomable power just barely contained.

I know this is dumb. But finishing this genuinely made me cry a little.

I've felt so bad about keeping this guy in what I know is a subpar environment for so long, and doing the best I could to keep him happy and healthy within it. But it was always barely keeping my head above the water.

And now, I finally feel like I have a good, permanent solution to it. This design, by definition, will fit in the space of a full sized bed in any place I live in the future. I feel like I finally provided something good for him. I know he's just a tortoise, but I really do love him, and I love seeing him happy and safe.

Lucifer

Perfectly curated, perfectly formatted, and whenever there's a major change to the tumblr format, he simply leaves the website altogether in a huff of peacock feathers.

Lots of HD photography of nature getting reblogged.

Has an extremely complicated and specific list of tags he uses for every single post.

He only reblogs text posts that are sufficiently visually appealing. Very few meet his high standards.

You could look through his entire blog and not learn one single thing about him except that he's a perfectionist to the point of neurosis.

He has a lot of professional art blogs following him.

Mammon

Oversharing oversharing oversharing!!!!

He regularly gets himself in trouble by shouting about the shit he's done into the void of the internet.

Tried to have a tagging system but forgets about 7/10 times.

Reblogs himself all the time to say "AND ANOTHER THING!!!"

He hates looking at the actual blog pages. The text is always so tiny and some of them start playing music and changing his mouse into a weird shape? No thank you.

He has very few followers and he doesn't really care. Who goes on tumblr for the social element? Weirdos, that's who.

He's insanely easy to troll with anonymous asks. Everyone has done it. Even Lucifer, though he wouldn't admit it.

Except he's multifandom to the extreme. It's impossible to keep track of his interests because he always has so many simultaneously.

He has the most followers of the brothers just because he gets so deep into so many fandoms that they come rolling in.

He has blocked all of his brothers except for the twins. They're okay.

His blog is a chaotic mess but there is order within the madness. He has a masterpost of tags that explains everything if you care to look at it. (I don't recommend it.)

Satan

It feels stupid to even put this in writing but...cat pics. Endless cat pics. That's like 90% of his blog.

The other 10% is a mixture of book recommendations and analysis, Lucifer shade, and a comprehensive, ever-expanding list of shit Lucifer has done to make Satan angry. It's a very long list. It's organized by theme.

His blog itself is very minimalist and clean.

He's another fastidious tagger. He tags the cat pics by color, breed, age, number of cats, setting...

Sometimes he'll post or reblog 'aesthetic' things. Moodboards and the like.

In general though, he doesn't really 'get' tumblr.

okay so in one timeline flowey spent weeks trying to figure out magic. and he happens to have modifiable bullets, since he’s a weird blend of dust and magic and determination, yada yada. but every bullet pattern he came up with was way too “cringe” and it wasn’t like he could make photorealistic bombs with his face on them so what was the point. he didn’t need a fancy-schmancy bullet pattern anyway, he just needed to get the job done.

fast-forward to one really late timeline where he… really doesn’t have any jobs to get done, anyway. papyrus spots him and challenges him to a friendly greeting fight and he just kinda… throws a singular pellet. and papyrus goes “GASP!! YOUR LACK OF ORIGINALITY… IT’S A REFLECTION ON YOUR CHARACTER!! A VERY NEGATIVE ONE! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!!”

and then the two spend the entire timeline coming up with “papyrus approved super cool personality-reflecting bullet patterns”. flowey ends up with a whole arsenal of pascprbps (acronym approval pending on flowey’s end) and papyrus even shows flowey a pascprbp he’d been working on and there was no way they were going to stick with the acronym, right? (they were)

obviously flowey wasn’t going to show his super cool attacks to some random human, and chara might not appreciate the fact he made his patterns without them (they’d always dreamed of team attacks), but post-pacifist he’d spot frisk and randomly start showering them with bullets. at first they’d be confused as to why flowey was attacking them and why he was so bad at it. of course, then they’d realize he was just being a show-off, and would immediately approach papyrus demanding a lesson. papyrus, of course, (technically) never taught flowey any of that! so they’d have to go to the expert himself.

through intense willpower on both sides, frisk managed to make themself some attacks. not magical, of course, but they still stood.
