Freeze-Dried Fruits and Vegetable Market: Forthcoming Trends and Share Analysis by 2030
Tumblr media
The Global Freeze-Dried Fruits And Vegetable market was estimated at USD 31.14 billion in 2021, and is anticipated to reach USD 49.58 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 6.87%.
Freeze drying is a novel technique used to preserve fruits and vegetables. This helps the increase shelf life of fruits and vegetables. There is a stepwise mechanism through which freeze-drying is done, it involves removing moisture in a vacuum chamber and then sealing it in an air-tight container this stops the enzymes from breaking down, otherwise, it leads to spoilage or taste change of the product. It is a good process when compared with other methods such as canning and refrigeration. Moreover, drying increases levels of vitamins and minerals as well as decreases the water content which aids in the preservation of certain products otherwise the water content helps in degrading the product. Several companies are delivering freeze-dried meal boxes to consumers as the demand for freeze-dried products is increasing due to the speedy population growth, this will help the freeze-dried fruits and vegetable market to extend over the forecast period.

HƯƠNG VỊ CỦA THỰC PHẨM SẤY THĂNG HOA
Tumblr media
Hương vị rất quan trọng trong thực phẩm. Nếu nó không ngon, tại sao chúng ta lại muốn nếm thử nó?
May mắn thay, cả thực phẩm sấy đông khô hầu hết đều có hương vị tuyệt vời.

"How to Life" Masterlist
Cleaning and Tidying
Make your bed in the morning. It takes seconds, and it's worth it.
Reset to zero each morning.
Use the UFYH 20/10 system for clearing your shit.
Have a 'drop-zone' box where you dump anything and everything. At the beginning/end of the day, clear it out and put that shit away.
Automate your chores. Have a cleaning schedule and assign 15mins daily to do whatever cleaning tasks are set for that day. Set a timer and do it once the timer is up, finish the task you're on and leave it for the day.
Fold your clothes straight out of the tumble dryer (if you use one), whilst they're still warm. This minimises creases and eliminates the need for ironing.
Clean your footwear regularly and you'll feel like a champ.
Organisation and Productivity
Learn from Eisenhower's Importance/Urgency matrix.
Try out the two-minute rule and the Pomodoro technique.
Use. A. Planner. (Or Google Calendar, if that's more your thing.)
Try bullet journalling.
Keep a notebook/journal/commonplace book to dump your brain contents in on the regular.
Set morning alarms at two-minute intervals rather than five, and stick your alarm on the other side of the room. It's brutal, but it works.
Set three main goals each day, with one of them being your #1 priority. Don't overload your to-do list or you'll hit overload paralysis and procrastinate.
If you're in a slump, however, don't be afraid to put things like "shower" on your to do list - that may be a big enough goal in itself, and that's okay.
Have a physical inbox - a tray, a folder, whatever. If you get a piece of paper, stick it in there and sort through it at the end of the week.
Consider utilising the GTD System, or a variation of it.
Try timeboxing.
Have a morning routine, and guard that quiet time ferociously.
Have a folder for all your important documents and letters, organised by topic (e.g. medical, bank, university, work, identification). At the front of this folder, have a sheet of paper with all the key information written on it, such as your GP's details, your passport details, driving licence details, bank account number, insurance number(s), and so on.
Schedule working time and down time alike, in the balance that works for you.
Money
Have. A. God. Damn. Budget.
Use a money tracker like toshl, mint, or splitwise. Enter all expenses asap! (You will forget, otherwise.)
Have a 'money date' each week, where you sort through your finances from the past seven days and then add it to a spreadsheet. This will help you identify your spending patterns and whether your budget is actually working or not.
Pack your own frickin' lunch like a grown-up and stop buying so many takeaway coffees. Keep snacks in your bag.
Food and Cooking
Know how to cook the basics: a starch, a protein, a vegetable, and a sauce.
Simple, one-pot meals ("a grain, a green, and a bean") are a godsend.
Batch cook and freeze. Make your own 'microwave meals'.
Buy dried goods to save money - rice and beans are a pittance.
Consider Meatless Mondays; it's healthier, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly.
Learn which fruits and vegetables are cheapest at your store, and build a standard weekly menu around those. (Also remember that frozen vegetables are cheap and healthy.)
Learn seasoning combinations. Different seasoning, even with the exact same ingredients, can make a dish seem completely new.
Misc
Have a stock email-writing format.
Want to start running, but find it boring? Try Zombies, Run!.
Keep a goddamn first aid kit and learn how to use it.
Update your CV regularly.
Keep a selection of stamps and standard envelopes for unexpected posting needs. (It happens more regularly than you would think!)

Summary: a resolution with flowers on the counter.
Word Count: 1k
A/N: here is part two of Flowers! I would recommend reading that first. Enjoy lovelies 💜
Lewis’ head shot up off the couch pillow when he heard the lock on the front door click.
He didn’t move when he saw you in the living room doorway. You broke the silence first.
“I’m going to bed.”
“Do you want me to sleep on the couch?”
You rolled your eyes. “Whatever, Lewis.”
Then he saw you turn and go up the stairs.
Lewis dropped his head into his hands. He couldn’t believe what the last few hours had turned into.
~~~~~
Lewis jogged up the steps, slightly out of breath as the Colorado freezing air kicked his ass. A crappy night's sleep and the change from Las Vegas weather had him struggling.
He opened the door and immediately saw Roscoe camped out on the welcome mat. While bending down to pet the attention seeker, he caught sight of you in the kitchen. You had a mug held to your lips with your phone in the other hand.
Lewis felt your eyes on him once he stood up. The light still hadn’t returned after a night of sleeping apart. It’s not like he expected anything different.
“Morning,” you greeted as you set your mug on the counter. You tucked your phone in the back pocket of your jeans. You kept talking, voice flat as it has been and Lewis didn’t like that. “I’m going to the store so if you need anything you can text me.”
Lewis walked to the cabinet and grabbed a glass making his way to the sink to get water. He didn’t respond. He didn’t know what to say.
“Alright, I’m going. See you in a bit,” you said.
“What store are you going to?” Lewis asked.
“I haven’t decided yet. Sprouts perhaps. Maybe Trader Joe’s. Whatever I feel like when I get in the car.”
You started to walk out of the kitchen when Lewis spoke. He really shouldn’t have. He was still pent up from his run and over everything he caused.
“You’re not going to the store.”
You froze and slowly turned towards him, eyebrows raised. “We need groceries, Lewis.”
“No we don’t.”
“Yes we do.”
“Nope.”
“Okay,” you put your hands on the counter, leaning towards Lewis, “the fruit and few vegetables I got yesterday barely feed you so we need groceries.”
To this, Lewis replied, “I’ll go with you.”
You barked out a laugh and shook your head.
“Don’t laugh,” Lewis ground out.
You both moved simultaneously, Lewis towards you and you towards the door. But, Lewis caught your wrist and pulled you towards him.
“Don’t laugh at me baby.”
“Lewis,” you whispered, in shock and maybe even surprise at your sudden closeness.
He walked you so your back was against the counter. Lewis reached into your back pocket and pulled your phone out placing it next to your hip.
“Why’d you throw the flowers away?” Lewis rumbled, you didn’t respond, he asked again, “why?”
“They were dried out.”
“You did that on purpose.”
“Lew—“
“Why?”
“Just let it go Lewis.”
He pressed you harder against the counter. “Tell me, honey. Why did the flowers end up in the trash?”
“They were just flowers.”
“They weren’t.”
“You’re right,” you said quietly. “Once you stopped showing up they became just flowers.”
He dropped his forehead to yours.
Lewis didn’t mean to hurt you. Truly. You had the best vacation together, something he enjoyed every second of. No work, no responsibilities. Time together that was needed. He did have work he needed to handle when getting home but went about it the wrong way.
He had to fix what he did.
“Please let me go Lewis,” you whispered.
“No.”
“No? You can’t just say no.”
He moved his hands from your hips to around your shoulders pulling you into a hug.
He moved his lips to your ear and whispered, “I hurt you. I messed up and I hurt you.”
Lewis felt your arms lightly wrap around his waist. He tightened his arms and pressed his temple to your hair.
“I’m sorry I hurt you, baby,” he murmured.
“Fine Lewis.”
“Let me in, baby. Let me fix my mistake. I shut you out and I shouldn’t have.”
He pulled back and saw your hard exterior slowly crumbling. He didn’t let you go but gave you time to speak.
“We got back from a fabulous time together, Lewis. I would have supported you through whatever you were going through. You know I have supported you and always will,” you said quietly. “What am I supposed to do and think when you aren’t talking to me?”
Lewis placed a finger on your chin guiding your eyes together.
“Give me your eyes honey.” Once you locked eyes he continued. “I didn’t want to burden you with everything I was working through. I can’t tell you exactly why I did what I did. I knew it was wrong. I can promise you I won’t do it again.”
He saw you take a deep breath and sigh. He hoped you weren’t gearing up to keep arguing.
“I know you didn’t do it on purpose, Lewis. But I’m not here to be thrown to the side when you’re stressed or whatever,” you flicked your hand off to the side. “I forgive you, but I’m not tolerating it again.”
Lewis felt the smile creeping onto his face. He heard you laugh quietly.
“Hug me baby. I’ve missed you.”
At that, you wrap your arms around his shoulder at the same time he hugs your waist. He missed the feeling of you. All parts of you.
You pulled back, Lewis not wanting to let you go, but loosening his hold, and seeing the smirk on your face.
He knew what was coming and braced for the incoming sass.
“Now, can we go buy groceries or are we going to stand here and starve?”
Lewis bent his neck and dropped his forehead to yours.
Then, his eyes locked with yours, he muttered, “Of course honey.”
“Then get off me and let’s go!”
“Fine, fine,” he replied, fighting a smile.
You looked into his eyes for a while.
Then you yelled, “let’s go Roscoe! You’re daddy stopped being an ass so we’re going as a family.”
Lewis closed his eyes and laughed. Then he moved and touched his lips to yours.
Then he let you go and watched as you went to get Roscoe’s collar and leash. With you out of sight, he went to the garbage can and pulled the flowers out. They’d deal with them together after shopping.
For @shanastoryteller who asked for the gut bacteria expert's* recipe:
The professor's green energy smoothie
Ingredients
(two servings, according to the original)
half an avocado
half an apple
the juice from half a squeezed lemon
1 pinch fresh ginger
10 grapes or half a kiwi
5 dried walnuts
1 sheet nori (the kind used for sushi)
4 bunches of spinach
1 bunch parsley
a handful of broccoli
a handful of bean sprouts
half a glass of herbal tea
Preparation
Prepare the vegetables and fruits by removing the core from the apple, the peel from the kiwi, etc.
Put the vegetables in the blender with the herbal tea (cooled) and blend until it becomes a very fine-grained, green and fragrant smoothie.
Garnish with fresh herbs according to your taste preferences.
From https://livsstil.tv2.dk/mad/opskrift/professorens-groenne-energigroed (translation: https://livsstil-tv2-dk.translate.goog/mad/opskrift/professorens-groenne-energigroed?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=da)
My tips
The taste is pretty neutral (YMMV) but if you substitute ingredients, it may affect the taste - cabbages in particular
I usually double the recipe and have it over two days - I can't be bothered to keep half an apple lying around
I use a tall container with a volume of 1,6L/3.4 pint - that's on the small side for my version
I wouldn't make bigger portions than can be eaten over two days, and unless consumed straight away it must be kept in the fridge - you're risking a bacteria bomb instead of a nice smoothie...
I rarely use lemon, but use a few good slices of ginger (peel the whole chunk, slice and freeze for less fuss)
If you live near an Asian market, they probably have bigger packs of nori. I buy one with 50 sheets - it's *much* cheaper per sheet than the supermarket's price
I skip the parsley (can't be bothered) and buy chopped (see next bullet point) frozen spinach and add to taste
Instead of broccoli (expensive; doesn't last long in the fridge) I buy whatever cabbage is cheapest and use a large handful of it chopped up some (the fibres in cabbage and whole spinach leaves does not play well with my blender - YMMV)
I use a large mug of herbal tea and add psyllium husk for more fibre
In general I substitute/add veggies/fruits if I have something going a bit overripe (buying a load of bananas cheap and freezing them if they go brown before eating: also great for this); if I'm out of grapes, I add raisins ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
IIRC he's a proponent of using organic prooduce. As you can tell from my notes I'm cheap and/or poor cost conscious, so I buy the cheapest. It's up to you :)
I eat this in addition to whatever fruits&vegs I usually have - it's an easy way to up my intake and get some things I don't eat a lot of (e.g. cabbage, spinach)
I make my own beansprouts - but this is already too long, so it's in the next post
*Oluf Borbye Pedersen - from the link:
Intestinal Microbiome Research OP is a leading partner in the EU-Metahit initiative (www.metahit.eu) which delivered the first and second gut microbial gene catalogue of 3.3 and 9.9 mio microbial genes, respectively, from the human intestinal tract.  With quantitative metagenomics he and his team demonstrated in a population sample that about a fourth of adults is markedly deficient in gut microbiota diversity. The same individuals were featured by insulin resistance, overweight, dyslipidaemia and proinflammation. OP et al. reported the first quantitative metagenomics study of gut microbiota in type 2 diabetes, prediabetics and women with gestational diabetes and they discovered a new biological fingerprint, gut enterotypes of the human host. In addition, in recent studies of the human gut microbiome, Pedersen and colleagues have teased out drug effects versus disease effects on gut bacteria composition and function. Recently, they reported the first example of gut microbes linked to human insulin resistance. Mechanistically the investigators extended and validated their findings in in rodents. The Pedersen team has done several interventions targeting the human gut microbiome and blood metabolome including the impact of broad-spectrum antibiotics and of dietary gluten content, respectively. Studies that influence dietary and medical practice.
As requested by @theannoyingurge let's take a detour from our regular schedule and talk food preservation in medival settings / before everybody had a refrigerator so you can write the bg3 fic of ur dreams and be realistic even with details that keep getting in ur way:
Underground cellars/basements. No rly. They can be incredible cool even in summer or even if they're not too deep, and they've been used to ripen and store food such as wine or cheese or meat since ages. Cooling and freezing has been no new invention, we've been refrigerating food (where possible aka northern regions and those with real winters) since forever. The only difference is that it's more convenient nowadays.
Your food can't spoil if you let it rot deliberately aka fermenting. Whether it's fruits and vegetables, honey and grape wines, beer, cheese, or soy sauce. People have been using fermentation since ancient times to preserve foods. Remember Surströmming? The canned fish that smells incredibly bad? Yeah that's just fermented fish.
My personal fav: The burial method. Foods would be burried in dry soil (the deeper u go the cooler it gets) to protect from, well, the sun, but also and very importantly, pests and that stuff. Sometimes the food would also be tightly packed in salts or some marinades to infuse some flavour and to dry it out even better, it's a method still used today for food such as Graved Lachs (lit. buried salmon) a 'delicacy' and yeah shit tastes awesome actually I highly recommend trying it.
Can't have fermenting without pickling. Even ancient Romans loved pickles. Everyone knows that wine can turn into vinegar, and guess what they took advantage of. Also you can pickle pretty much everything. Fish, meat, fruits, veggies. It's edible? You can pickle it. And apparently people will.
Boiling stuff with sugar or honey, aka, making jams and jellies. Sugar can preserve food, and while they didn't have those cute lil glasses we do, they still very much enjoyed their jam. Ofc this was used primarily for sweeter foods. Strawberry jam has been used as a treat for God knows how long. You wouldn't believe how old some cake recipes really are.
Curing and smoking: a method we still very much use to this day to make sausages and prepare other sorts of meat and fish. People have ever since loved the smoke flavour and dangerous amounts of salt. Jerky is certainly no new invention.
Drying: yep. Grain, nuts, fruits, veggies. Lots of shit lasts nearly forever if its purposefully dried. Just make sure you don't screw it up and treat the not yet so dry produces carefully. Garlic ropes may keep out vampires but the biggest advantage is that it'll keep it from spoiling so fast.
And most importantly; the take only what you need approach. You need only 2 tomatoes? Only pluck 2 off the vine. You need meat 3 days from now? Well, only get it on the day you'll need it. You need bread today? Bake it today. People we're very conscious about their foods and what they needed. Doesn't hurt to leave the apple on the tree for one more day if it's not close to overripe already.
Now for the fun part, the random trivia regarding food;
Originally it was a woman's job to brew the beer
Beer can be used as food and it often was used as a cheap tavern food or in times of need
Island nations and coastal regions love to eat fresh, raw fish. A lot of culture from this region somehow includes raw fish in their cuisine for a plethora of reasons. Coastal people love their raw fish. Also algae. They do love algae too
Not a single hair on an animal was wasted. Hair = brushes, fat = soaps and cosmetics, blood = can be cooked and eaten. Blood sausages and all that stuff. Lamb's intestines were famously used as condoms. I meant it when I said everything.
The 'trash' meat aka scraps and very non tasty looking stuff was mixed with grain and fried in times where food was rare. Great source of protein and very filling.
Meat was expensive, so it was rare to come by and very much valued.
Normal middle/lower class people would often only eat the "good stuff" once a week or on special occasions.
During outbreaks of the pest and other illnesses even kids drank beer. Water was too dirty and contaminated.
In fact the primary drinks were wines, beers, ales all that stuff. Water had to be boiled first.
Pretty much everything that wasn't poisonous would be eaten by people. Wasting food really didn't happen a lot outside of the upper class.
Religion was heavily influenced by food. Meat will spoil very quickly in the deserts heat, a sober soldier fights better than a drunk one, fish is rare outside of coastal towns so it's expensive and rare, cows are much more useful if they're alive rather than dead, you took a life to feed yourself so be responsible about it, that kinda shit. Food influences religion. Has always done that.
Hope this helps or this is what u were looking for. I somehow crave Graved Lachs now so I shall hunt some in the supermarket or smth.
Winter headcanons for the March of Maedhros
More in the himring and beleriand tags!
World Building Masterlist
Send me a location and I’ll write some winter HCs!
-Temperatures drop to the extent that access to water can become a concern. Wells that are fed from groundwater can freeze and the rivers and lakes become even more dangerous to venture upon. Water is sometimes sourced from snow which is boiled to distill it.
Second Note: I have a post about water in Himring here!
-Heated stones, primarily obsidian and certain types of sandstone are heated and wrapped in cloth as a treatment for lasting pain. The relief is fairly short lived but especially for the duration of the treatment can be incredibly soothing. Maedhros himself has benefited from this as have the many residents of Himring with lasting effects of injuries from battle, or, in some cases, torture. Changes in weather can exacerbate chronic pain and other conditions including mobility, mood, and other functions.
-The soldiers of Himring often sleep in extremely close quarters during the winter for warmth, especially when firewood is scarce. Scouts and spies limit their fires when away from the citadel to limit the possibility of being seen.
-Warm clothing and materials come from wool imported from Thargelion, and from reindeer, ermine and rabbit native to the March. Feathers from snow and tundra geese are also used for insulation.
-Much food is preserved for cold winters and for the soldiers and scouts who rotate out and need food that can last. Methods of food preservation are learned from the dwarves who aided in the construction of Himring as well as through trial and error (These are still Noldor and take pride in experimenting and exploring). Himring utilizes more of these methods than many other elven realms. Salted meat, stocks and broths that can be quickly heated over a fire, root vegetables, dried fruit from the summer, usually orchard fruit like apples that can grow in colder climates.
-There is a ghost story told by the scouts of Himring of elves who simply walk away into the winter wilderness and are never seen again. These elves were said to appear in a trance like state or to appear as though something has caught their attention. These stories are often implicitly associated with former thralls, who are often thought of or depicted as ghosts, transient, or otherwise eerie.
I am allergic to all nightshades (tomato, potato, peppers, eggplant) as well as shellfish. I'm also physically disabled, so standing at the stove or counter for long periods of time is painful. My food options are so limited as a result, and I end up relying on frozen foods more than I'd like. Any ideas?
Trail mix: Lots of things can be purchased in pre-sized pieces from bulk stores and mixed in zipper bags. I recommend dried fruit or berries without added sugar, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, etc..), nuts, and puffed grain or cereal pieces. Making your own mix is usually a healthier and more customizable option than buying pre-made, so you can expand it out to a meal or just eat as a snack.
Meal shakes- Combine a regular smoothie recipe with some heavy cream or nut butter for more calories. These are much easier to clean up after if you use a stick blender and rinse it off immediately.
The following recipes minimize prep, or allow prep to be done at a different time than the meal will be consumed:
Sheet pan meals: Cut pieces of 2 different vegetables (sweet potato, onion, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, etc...) and a meat (chicken, sausage links, beef, pork, etc...) into 1-inch cubes, toss in oil of choice with spices of choice (I like garlic, onion, salt, and black pepper), lay on a sheet pan, and bake until the meat is cooked through (30-45mins at 350F).
The chopping can be done seated and/or done ahead on a good day (or even purchased pre-cut at some supermarkets) and frozen (lay on a baking tray in the freezer for an hour, then put in a zipper bag) for a quick meal on a bad day. You can cut down on dishes by lining the pan you freeze or cook with in parchment paper.
Instant Pot or slow cooker meals: Put some meat, roughly chopped onions, spices of choice, oil of choice, and broth in a slow cooker or instant pot, set to appropriate settings and wait.
Make rice or other starch ahead of time and freeze in portions. Then all you have to do is microwave it to go with a sheet pan dinner or instant pot dinner.
Non-nightshade sauces can be tricky, but here is a relatively easy one that doesn't require sautee-ing. It does require an instant pot or slow cooker and blender or immersion blender.
hi! when I get depressed it's really hard to make sure I'm eating as much as I should so here are some things I eat when I don't have the energy to do shit
these are depression meals so they are in no way balanced and an ideal diet, this is to get you through it. if you have depression, some of these on your shopping list are a good idea. I update this list whenever I remember something
I'm also assuming the only equipment you have is a bowl, spoon, sink, microwave and at most, a can opener. in no particular order:
granola bars and adjacent things like nuts, dried fruit, etc
frozen sausages: break them in half and microwave, if they're too cold to break you can run them under hot water or leave them out for a couple minutes, you need the break them or they might explode
canned corn: open and eat with a spoon, you can strain and microwave if you want it hot
cheese: put it in a bowl and microwave till it melts or till it's crispy, your choice but if you do just cheese don't use a porous bowl
instant noodles: don't use a pan, use a bowl, empty the contents in the bowl, add water till at least half of the noodle thing is submerged, microwave for 2-4 minutes, mix and eat
regular noodles: use a bigger bowl than you normally would, add some dry pasta to it and enough water to cover the pasta but not much more, it might overflow, and microwave for a few minutes more than the package says to boil, drain the water and put in whatever, condiment, sauce, cheese, sausages, frozen veggies, and microwave again, it's more time intensive but also more nutrients so
canned beans: you can eat as is if it comes in a sauce, but if you got the ones with the clear liquid you can strain and rinse and if you don't have a strainer, open the can just a little from the tab and open a faucet, let the water run into the can and adjust the position of the lid till the water can go in without any of the beans coming out, it'll dissolve the liquid and it'll flow out, leave it for a bit then shake it, turn it upside to drain, let it refill then leave it again, repeat till the water over flowing isn't that weird liquid
crackers/biscuits: keep a stash of biscuits that you can eat, bonus if you can eat them with milk or tea or coffee or juice
juice: buy your favorite and keep a bottle in the fridge or frozen if you suspect you're starting to spiral and might need it in a few hours
readymade meals: whenever you go to do your grocery shopping, buy just one premade meal
vegetables: keep a vegetable you like that you can eat raw like cucumbers or carrots
fruits: keep a fruit you know you can eat or you know you can drown in something else, for example I don't like apples but I can eat them if they're covered in peanut butter
sweets: you can keep a favorite hard candy to get yourself salivating idk for me if helps activate some hunger while getting rid of the painful part of being hungry
butters and spreads: you can find premade sandwich spread with chicken in them, or jams or spreads that are savory like peanut/almond/cashew butter or sweet like a chocolate/vanilla spread
rice: if you make rice and ever have some left over you can freeze it and eat it later, you can also do that with rice in a bag
tofu: you can eat it raw as long as you drain the liquid it comes with
condiments: almost all of these things can be improved or 'seasoned' with ketchup, mayo, mustard, ranch, tartar sauce, marinara, etc. it'll give some flavor and make it taste better but don't microwave sauces unless they're properly mixed with the food especially mayo based ones, they can get weird
frozen vegetables: any time you're using the microwave to make these things, throw in a handful of frozen vegetables and microwave for a little longer
cereal: pair cereal with foods like yogurt instead of milk, you can add chocolate drink powder to the yogurt before adding the cereal which is really nice, you can also make it directly in the yogurt container if it's small enough
electrolytes: you can make them a bottle using two dashes of salt (1/4 tsp), a 2second squeeze of a honey bottle (2 tsp) and some kind of juice for a better flavor
potatoes: stab them all around with a fork, microwave for about six minutes, turn it over then microwave again, keeping microwaving and turning till it's soft on the inside and you can eat it
order out: if you can afford to order food, order it, some tips to get the most out of what you order 1. order a family box of food to store in the fridge 2. when you microwave it, do it with some water in a glass with your bowl/food in the microwave
if opening the tab on a can is keeping you from eating, try this. it'll open the can, you can use a knife, the back of a spoon, etc.
if it keeps you from spiraling, it's worth doing. and if it's worth doing, it's worth doing poorly. eating something is better than eating nothing.
hope this helps, if you can, please add more things!
Kyle did NOT like grocery shopping, it wasn't something he really ever was a fan of doing. He would do it if necessary but it wasn't like he was willing to jump at the opportunity to go out and shop for essentials. However, Stan had a date with Wendy and he couldn't go, so Kyle offered to do this week's shopping trip.
It really wasn't that Kyle hated the act of grocery shopping, it was just that he hated coming back to hearing "Oh... this isn't what I was wanting" whenever he came back. Whether it was from his mom growing up, or now while living with Stan, both have remarked that apparently he was "too serious with the shopping" or whatever that meant.
Stan had at least written a list of things he wanted this time for Kyle, but Kyle couldn't help but nitpick his list; freeze dried blueberries..? Last time Kyle checked Stan hated freeze dried fruit. But, whatever, Stan was paying him back for the things he wanted, so Kyle won't complain too much.
Kyle sighs, crouching down to grab a box of lucky charms cereal Stan begged to get, even writing it on the list in capital letters. As he gets up with the box and turns to start walking back to his cart, someone accidentally runs into him.
"? Oh, I'm so sorry, are you-" Kyle pauses as he sees who ran into him.
Red.
Red McArthur.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red smiles, walking into the grocery stores having seen Kyle Broflovski walk in. She lied a little bit to Kevin, she really had no solid plan, she didn't even have a full grasp of what Kevin would even want as material to 'ruin' him.
She supposed she could talk to him, but she doubted he'd even want to utter a 'hello' towards her and instead he may walk the other direction if he even saw her, so how the hell was she supposed to be able to get any sort've information from him?
She managed to keep her distance from Kyle as he shopped around, if he was in the produce fruits area, she was looking at the vegetables and debating 'what one to grab'. When he left to go towards the dairy section, she waited about 3-4 minutes before slowly making her way over towards that section from the opposite end. From there on out, if they ended up in the same aisle, which happened as she was following him, she would be at the opposite end.
How he never noticed her for most of the trip was insane to her, but Red was thankful nonetheless, it gave her the chance to think of ways on how to manage to get information out of him. She could expose to Kevin some of the odd items he was buying; who buys regular plain bagels..? Either way, it wasn't until he turned for the cereal that Red thought of the perfect way to get information out of him.
Red quietly followed him into the cereal aisle, taking a quick glance at some of the cereals to make it look as if she was meant to be there. Red inched her way closer after she saw Kyle stop his cart and move towards a different section of cereals.
Quickly grabbing some random brand, she flipped it to the side pretending to read the calorie information and walked towards Kyle, purposefully running into him as he stood up.
"? Oh, I'm so sorry, are you-" Red slowly looked up as Kyle spoke and saw him freeze as he made eye contact with her.
"Oh! Kyle. I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were right there.. I was engaged in reading the uhh.. honeycomb information. What a surprise, great to see you!" Red smiled.
Kyle stood quiet for a second, "Red."
"Oh.. yowch he does nottt look happy to see me." Red thought.
Red pursed her lips before glancing at the cereal box in Kyle's hand, "Yum lucky charms, haha Kenny loves that cereal."
Kyle's face twitches in irritation, "Does he? Great..."
Red smiles once more, "Well I ought to go, it was lovelyyyy seeing you again Kyle."
"I can't say the same." He scowled.
"Oh.. man people really can hate a girl for going after a man she likes." Red internally rolled her eyes and walked away.
Red heads into another aisle, putting the cereal away and walks over towards the front door of the grocery store, swinging Kyle's house keys in her hand.
Tumblr media
Kyle sighed as he got into his car, seeing Red had really brought his entire mood down. He starts his car and turns his playlist on, ready to just head back and put these groceries away and wait for Stan to come back home to tell him about what happened. Hand hitting his steering wheel to the beat of 'No More Lies' by Thundercat and Tame Impala, he tunes out most of his drive back to his apartment complex.
He pulls into a parking space and shuts off his car, patting his right pocket for his house keys, he freezes as he feels the empty pocket, he pats his other pockets trying to feel around for any sort of keys but has no luck.
"Oh fuck did they fall out..?" Kyle says aloud to himself. He opens the car door and grabs his phone, turning on the flashlight. Climbing out of the car to take a peek under his seat, he sees no keys and groans, "Just my luck."
Kyle climbs back into his car, shooting Stan a quick text, praying that he's still at the apartment miraculously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kyle bites his lip in frustration and calls up Clyde. After a few rings, Clyde answers, "Hey man! What's up?"
"Hey Clyde, I have an ask for you."
"Oh, uhhhhh.." Kyle could hear some hushed whispers before Clyde is back, "Sure... what's up."
"Okay... so Stan is on a date with Wendy right now and I left to go grocery shop and now I'm pretty sure I left my house keys in the apartment so I was wondering if I could stay at yours for a bit? Just until he's done.. if you're out or... busy right now then no worries."
"Dude.. that sucks, I so would.." More hushed whispers and Clyde comes back once more, "I'm busy though at the moment. Are you done now?"
Kyle clicks his tongue, "Yeah..."
He hears Clyde hum in thought, "Okay.. then yeah man I can't, I'm sorry have you called Nichole or Y/n?"
"I haven't you're the first I called."
More whispering and then, "Aww... Kyle that warms my heart.. I'd call Y/n though next, Nichole is out with Heidi from what I heard..besides Y/n is back at her apartment now."
"Yeah well it has been a little over a week.. I’d hope the locks have been changed.. but uh, thanks Clyde."
"Yeah! Bye man."
"See ya."
Kyle hangs up and stares at his phone a bit awkwardly.. before calling you.
"Hey Kyle!" You cheerfully call over the phone.
"Hey! Uh.. I have a question for you."
"What's up?"
Kyle sighs and repeats what he told Clyde, ""Okay so... I went grocery shopping for Stan and I, and now I'm pretty sure I left my house keys in the apartment and Stan is out with Wendy and won't be home for a while so I was wondering if I could stay at yours for a bit? Just until he's done.. if you're busy though don't worry about it I can call someone else.."
"Oh that sucks, no, I'm not busy at the moment, I am cooking dinner right now though, have you ate?"
Kyle blinks, "Uh.. no I haven't.."
"Great! I uh.. well you can come over with your groceries and we can put the cold stuff away.. assuming you have some, and I can make you a plate to eat, sounds good?"
"Uh.. yeah.. yeah! Sounds good I'll be over in about 10 minutes..?"
"Perfect, that should be when I'm done cooking anyways, see you in 10."
"Yeah see you in 10.."
He hangs up again and he sits frozen, pretty much at a loss for words and then in an autopilot like trance, starts his car up once more and heads over to your place.
When I’m feeling depressed, it can be nearly impossible to take care of myself, and that includes eating. Here’s a list of some foods that require little to no effort (aka: can be eaten right out of the package or just need to be microwaved), mainly for my personal reference, but also so others can find easier alternatives when they’re struggling.
Water bottles or canned water - stay hydrated!!
vegetables - green beans, peas, corn, black/kidney/pinto beans, chickpeas (all canned or microwaveable frozen bags) - I’ve also tried Harvest Snaps, which are baked snap peas & they’re v good
Fruit - grapes, raisins (or any other dried fruit like apricots/dates), mandarin oranges, apples, applesauce cups, bananas, pears, peaches, etc. (most fruits require no prep anyway, but especially if they’re canned - you can also buy frozen bags)
Canned soup or chicken, beef, or veggie broth
Pasta (ramen, spaghetti, mac and cheese, chow mein) or instant rice are my go-tos. You can buy these in individual cups or bulk packs.
Any microwaveable food - frozen/tv dinners, burritos, toaster strudels (they make an egg bacon & cheese version too!), mini pizzas, breakfast sandwiches… there’s a lot you could do here :)
Dairy - Yogurt, cheese sticks, (or just straight up eat cheese slices, there are no rules here), cottage cheese, almond/oat/soy milk, powdered milk (if you want something shelf-stable)
Grains & carbs - cereal, crackers, chips, popcorn, toast or bagels (I’ve eaten plain bread before tbh and it kinda slaps), Oatmeal (these packets are dinosaur themed & have little sugar eggs!! - https://www.quakeroats.com/products/hot-cereals/instant-oatmeal/dinosaur-eggs)
Nuts - peanuts, peanut butter, almonds, cashews, walnuts, trail mix, etc.
Meat - deli turkey, trail bologna, spam, jerky, frozen chicken strips or nuggets, Morningstar vegetarian corn dogs, canned tuna
Eggs
Fast food or take-out is also a good option if you don’t feel like making anything yourself.
A little tip - most foods you would take on a camping or hiking trip are great! for some, all you need to do is add water & heat it up. they are usually on the expensive side, though!! here’s some I’ve found that are decent:
https://mountainhouse.com/
Things to keep on hand for particularly bad days:
Boost/ensure/Soylent - liquid meals for when the idea of chewing or mixing anything is too much.
disposable cutlery/bowls/utensils so you don’t have more dishes to worry about.
Multivitamins
Liquid IV, Gatorade, or some other form of electrolytes. It’s too easy to get dehydrated!
If you do have a little energy to cook or make something, here’s some ideas:
If you have a blender: frozen spinach + frozen banana + shelf stable almond milk + peanut butter makes a great smoothie.
frozen fruit + frozen spinach/kale for smoothies
Adding whey protein makes it more filling.
dried pasta + jarred pasta sauce (Rao’s is low sugar and awesome, but pricey) + frozen meatballs
Boil tortellini on hand. Its as easy as boiling water. You can eat it plain, add a spoonful of pesto, sprinkle with a little olive oil or butter and some garlic salt, or pour it back in the pan after draining and add a little pasta sauce
frozen fried rice + frozen stir fry veggies
favorite frozen protein and veggies for sheet pan meals
canned refried beans with a tortilla and some cheese to microwave, can add extra toppings too
oatmeal + pb + dried fruit of choice
rice cakes + pb + jam (or substitute bread if you have it)
Rotisserie chicken in a salad, soup, sandwich or wrap
Frozen salmon with some veggies
air fryer foods - chicken nuggets, tenders, fries, etc. You can also toss different vegetables (baby carrots, Brussels sprouts, etc.) in a little olive oil and throw them in there
chicken broth & frozen dumplings - you can dress it up a little with some miso, soy sauce or other seasonings. You could also add some frozen vegetables.
snack type food - a combination of canned Garbanzo beans and black olives. The olives are salty enough that you can get low sodium beans and it will still taste good.
A lot of these ideas I stole from the good people of Reddit (particularly r/depressionmeals)!Here’s the post I referenced if you’d like to look further into it:
