WOOPIE!
Soffía's POV (@rosakajo )
A new horse just arrived today, and I was of course here to welcome him. His name is Vopni frá Teitur, and he is 1.5 years old. He is already a tall boy, as you can see, and seems quite sensitive, which might be a good thing or a challenge when training him, depending on whom might be his trainer, when he grows a little older.
As you can see he walks very nicely on leadrope, even if there are horses in the background.
When I entered the stable for the stallions and geldings, where Vopni will be living, I could hear the loud chatter of Frederic and Froya. It was nice how lively the barn was being today. Froya was in the process of tacking up her oldest friend Hrafn, while Frederic was standing with Flóki in leadrope. The stallion was pearing curiously over his shoulder, as I walked by with Vopni.
"Is that the new one?" Frederic all but yelled through the stable, which made me shake my head at his antics and lack of manners, while Froya laughed loudly with a snort in the end.
"Yes, that's Vopni. From Rosa Kajo," I called back, though not quite as loudly.
"Woopie? His name is Woopie? Like Woopie Goldberg? What kind of Icelandic is named Woopie?" He was still talking very loudly, and his confusion really shone through.
Froya hit him on the arm with her reins, she had apparently finished putting on Hrafn's bridle, "Not Woopie, Vopni!" she laughed, rolling her eyes at him probably - I couldn't see her face as she had her back towards me.
"Oh..." his cheeks grew warm and red very quickly.

Later that day, when the rain had stopped, I had put Vopni into the stallions' pasture, so he could meet the herd. As the stallions are generally friendly, when it comes to the young ones, I just let him inside, clicked off the rope and then let him run off.
And that he did, quickly! Apparently he had gotten spooked when one of the stallions had neighed 'welcome' to him. Damn that little guy could run!
I waited inside the pasture for a little while, as the young colt seeked me out, so I could comfort him. Poor baby!

Gustav Fröhlich in Abenteuer eines jungen Herrn in Polen (1934)
flickr
Gustav Fröhlich in Abenteuer eines jungen Herrn in Polen (1934) by Truus, Bob & Jan too! Via Flickr: German collectors card in the series 'Vom Werden deutscher Filmkunst - Der Tonfilm', album no. 11, image no. 87. Photo: Itala-Film / Ross Verlag. Gustav Fröhlich in Abenteuer eines jungen Herrn in Polen/Love and Alarum (Gustav Fröhlich, 1934). Smart German actor Gustav Fröhlich (1902-1987) played Freder Fredersen in the classic Metropolis (1927) and became a popular star in light comedies. After the war he tried to escape from the standard roles of a charming gentleman with the part of a doomed painter in Die Sünderin (1951), but the effort went down in a scandal. Gustav Friedrich Fröhlich was born an illegitimate child in Hannover, Germany in 1902. His father, Gustav König, was a well-known engineer, and his mother Hedwig Therese Sophie Fröhlich, the daughter of a worker. Gustav was raised by foster parents. His foster family moved around western Germany a lot while he was growing up, living in cities like Wiesbaden and Wurzburg. He studied at the Homuth Realgymnasium Friedenau in Berlin. During World War I the young Gustav volunteered for a duty in occupied Brussels as supervisioner of the press. In 1919 he started his career as a trainee at a newspaper, but he spent his spare time as a emcee at local variety shows. He also wrote two issues of a dime novel, Heinz Brandt, der Fremdenlegionär/Heinz Brandt, the Foreign Legionnaire. After some entrances at a vaudeville theater under the stage name Gustav Geef he took acting lessons in Heilbronn. In the next few years he appeared on different minor German stages. In Berlin he played from 1923 till 1925 at the Volksbühne am Bülowplatz under the direction of Erwin Piscator. Later he appeared as The Prince of Homburg at the Deutsche Theater under the direction of Max Reinhardt. His film debut was a small role in a Dutch-German film produced in Germany, De bruut/Ein neues Leben/The Brute (Theo Frenkel, 1922) with Erna Morena and Adolphe Engers. He then played a secondary role as composer Franz Liszt in Paganini (Heinz Goldberg, 1923) featuring Conrad Veidt. The following years, he played in such films as Friesenblut (1925) opposite Jenny Jugo. Then Fröhlich landed his breakthrough role as Freder Fredersen in Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927) by chance. He was only scheduled to play one of the workmen but four weeks after the beginning he was discovered on the set by Thea von Harbou, Fritz Lang's wife. Lang immediately cast him in the lead because of his striking good looks. A new star was born. After Metropolis, Gustav Fröhlich was typecast as the fresh-faced, naive 'boy next door' in such silent films as Die elf Teufel/The Eleven Devils (Zoltan Korda, Carl Boese, 1927) with Evelyn Holt, Heimkehr/Homecoming (Joe May, 1928) opposite Lars Hanson, and Asphalt (Joe May, 1929), in which he played a honest policeman who is seduced by a crook (Betty Amann). In 1930, Fröhlich was called to Hollywood by Warner Brothers to do German versions of American sound films, such as Die heilige Flamme/The Holy Flames (William Dieterle (as Wilhelm Dieterle), Berthold Viertel, 1931) and Kismet (William Dieterle, 1931), both with Dita Parlo. Back in Germany, he soon was subscribed for Max Ophüls’ musical comedy Die verliebte Firma/The Company's in Love (1931) next to Lien Deyers, and for Robert Siodmak's crime drama Voruntersuchung/Inquest (1931) with Albert Bassermann. He often worked with director Géza von Bolváry. Between 1931 and 1933 they made six films together. These include Ich will nicht wissen, wer du bist/I Do Not Want to Know Who You Are (Géza von Bolváry, 1932) with Liane Haid, and Was Frauen träumen/What Women Dream (Géza von Bolváry, 1933), which was co-written by Billy Wilder. Fröhlich often played smart gentlemen in lighthearted musicals and romances. Because of his carefree attendance, Fröhlich was seldom allowed to play other characters. One of his greatest successes was his part of the helpful and likable policeman in Oberwachtmeister Schwenke (Carl Froelich, 1935). He also directed films like Rakoczy-Marsch/Rakoczy march (Gustav Fröhlich, Steve Sekely, 1933), Abenteuer eines jungen Herrn in Polen/Love and Alarm (1934), and after the war Wege im Zwielicht/Paths in Twilight (1948), Der Bagnosträfling/The Prisoner (1949) with Paul Dahlke, and the crime drama Die Lüge/The Lie (1950) with Otto Gebühr. Between 1931 and 1935 Gustav Fröhlich was married with Hungarian Opera star and actress Gitta Alpár. When she was pregnant form their daughter Julika, he left her. According to Alpár, because she was Jewish and he did not want to hurt his career in Nazi Germany. After the war, Fröhlich tried a reconciliation with Gitta Alpár but she never forgave him. Reportedly this gave him a tough time at old-age. From 1936 till 1938 he lived together with actress Lída Baarová, his costar in Barcarole (Gerhard Lamprecht, 1935) and Leutnant Bobby, der Teufelskerl/A Devil of a Fellow (Georg Jacoby, 1935). After losing Lída to Joseph Goebbels, Froelich had a quarrel with him. There is an urban legend that the quarrel culminated in a slap in the face of the powerful and feared Propaganda-Minister. Allegedly, Froehlich was banned from playing his trade for two years (1941-1943). Lída Baarová later denied this in her memoirs. In 1937, he rented his house in Berchtesgaden to Adolph Hitler's architect, Albert Speer. In 1941 Fröhlich remarried with Maria Hajek. Since 1941 he had to serve for the Wehrmacht, interrupted by film engagements like Der Grosse König/The Great King (Veit Harlan, 1942) starring Otto Gebühr as Prussian king Friedrich the Second. Gustav Fröhlich was seldom involved in Nazi Propaganda films, a fact that helped him to establish a new film career after World War II. He tried to escape from standard roles of the charming gentleman by playing a doomed painter in Die Sünderin/The Sinner (Willi Forst, 1951). The effort went down in the chaos of a scandal because of the film's open treatment of several taboos such as suicide and euthanasia, plus a brief nude performance by Hildegard Knef. He went on to play leads in light entertainment films including Haus des Lebens/House of Life (Karl Hartl, 1952) with Cornell Borchers, and Die kleine Stadt will schlafen gehen/The Little Town Will Go to Sleep (Hans H. König, 1954) with Jester Naefe. He remained a busy actor after the war but his roles changed from leading men to supporting parts as he got older. From the 1960s on, he had only a few TV film entrances including a part in the comedy Laubenkolonie/Allotment area (Heribert Wenk, Bertold Sakmann, 1968) with Paul Dahlke. He was more active in the theatre, a.o. for the Renaissance-Theater in Berlin and the Schauspielhaus in Zürich. In 1973 he was honoured with the Filmband in Gold, the German Film Award for Lifetime Achievements. Ten years later, he published his autobiography Waren das Zeiten - Mein Film-Heldenleben/Those Were Times - My Life as a Film Hero (1983). His last public appearance was in 1986, when Giorgio Moroder presented his revised version of Metropolis. From 1956 on, Gustav Fröhlich lived in Lugano, Switzerland. There he died in 1987 of a complication after surgery, at age 85. His wife Maria Hajek had passed away earlier that same year. Sources: Lara Goeke (The Gustav Fröhlich Fan Page), Bruce Eder (AllMovie), Thomas Staedeli (Cyranos), Wikipedia (English and German), and IMDb. “21 Jump Street” s1e1 (1987)
Tumblr media
A well-written and very enjoyable pilot movie. Hanson is immediately a very likeable character, the villains are excellent, the action sequences are good, and the status quo for the series looks interesting and original.
Really enjoyed Frederic Forrest as Captain Jenko.
Great music, too.

Large Scale Fanzine Scanning Projects (Fanac): Fandom History
A special thank you to Fanac - a science fiction and fantasy fandom group that has been working to preserve their corner of fandom history. Fanac focuses on literary (book) fandom, with an emphasis on science fiction and fantasy fanzines from the 1930s-1960s. They maintain a website that hosts many fanzines in PDF format. This year they started offering scanning stations at science fiction conventions where people can bring their zines to be scanned. They will have a scanning station at Dublin Worldcon this weekend. They also have a wonderful YouTube channel: https://youtuber.com/c/FANACFanHistory From their latest newsletter "At Boskone 56 (February) and again at Corflu 36 (May), we arranged with the conventions to set up our FANAC Scanning Station. We bring at least one scanner and computer and ask that fans bring fanzines to the convention that we can scan and archive online. This has been pretty successful, resulting in our scanning over 2,000 pages at Boskone and over 3,500 pages at Corflu. We had many notable contributions of fanzines for scanning, including from Grant Canfield, Frederic Gooding III, Susan Graham and her scanning team at UMBC, Rob Hansen, Dan Steffan, Geri Sullivan (2019 TAFF delegate), Pat Virzi and especially Rob Jackson who allowed us to scan a large stack of zines that were later auctioned for fan charities. Since Corflu, we’ve put over 600 fanzines online. We’ve arranged with the Dublin 2019 Worldcon to have a scanning station there as well. If you’re coming, bring something for us to scan. FANAC Fan History Project website: http://fanac.org  As of today, we have 8,069 fanzines online, with over 92,500 pages. Of those, 2,902 are newszines (and thanks to David Ritter for the first volume of Taurasi’s Fantasy News!). Recently, we’ve tried to increase the number of fanzine titles for which we have complete runs. These are as varied as Joe Kennedy’s Vampire (1940s) to Karen Anderson’s Vorpal Glass (1960s) to Benford/White/et al’s Void (1950s-1960s). Other recently complete runs include Aporrheta (Sanderson), Bane (Ryan), Bastion (Bentcliffe), BEM (Ashworth), Blat! (White/Steffan), Epsilon (Hansen), Oopsla! (Calkins), Pendulum (Venable), Pong (White/Steffan), Spaceways (Warner), Starspinkle (Ellik), Telos (Nielsen Hayden), and Tolkien Journal (Plotz/Meskys).
As a sidelight, one of our favorite fans, Lee Hoffman, also published two of the earliest (if not the earliest) folk music fanzines, and we’ve put those online as well: Caravan (1957-59) and Gardyloo (1959-60). We’ve also been adding a lot of UK fanzines. These have ranged from the 1930s to the present. They include Maurice Hanson’s Novae Terrae (thanks to Rob Hansen for the scans), C.S. Youd’s (aka JohnChristopher) Fantast, plus the above listed zines BEM, Aporrheta, Bastion, and Epsilon. Others include: Weston’s Speculation, Clarke’s Eye, Joan Carr et al’s Femizine, Enever & Parker’s Orion, Berry’s Pot Pourri, and more. One more interesting item from the UK: thanks to Ian Sorensen, we have the transcript of the highly entertaining GoH speech that James White gave at the 1983 Eastercon in Glasgow, titled “The Scottish Influence on Sector General”. With our scanning station at Dublin 2019, we hope to add many Irish and other European fanzines.
You might also be interested in newly uploaded issues of Terry Carr’s Innuendo and Lighthouse, Riddle’s Peon, Geis’ Psychotic/Science Fiction Review, Alien Critic... and Harlan Ellison’s fanzines."

BELATED VALENTINE'S DAY
Nikolette's POV
So Soffía seeked me out late in the evening. We have both been in the house for awhile - the NEW house might I add! - after Soffía said goodnight to the staff and the horses. Looked like we would have an early night with no horses, which is honestly rare, when you work with horses for a living.
So we basically moved to the couch with a cup of hot chocolate each. I know Soffía doesn't like it when I make a big deal out of Valentine's Day, so we did literally nothing that day, other than actually moving into the new house, moving van and all.
Sitting there, with a rare night off - since Peyton was very much into her new desktop and probably wouldn't bother us - Soffía sat in front of me, leaning towards me, touching my cheek.
"You know what?" she told me softly, caressing my hand.
"No, what?" my heart was beating hard in my chest, even if I didn't actually know why.
"I want..." she said, leaning into me closely, invading my space - which was very welcome to be honest.
Tumblr media
"... to have a baby with you," she whispered against my lips.
All I could do was nod, I had actually been thinking about that as well, but didn't think she would want that, as she was already busy enough as it is, but apparently she did want it as well? Great!
"Then kiss me..." she whispered against my lips against, barely a hair from mine.
Tumblr media
Oh and apparently love is also blooming in other places. Froya and Frederic is getting serious, or so Frederic told me at least. I am sure Soffía and my baby is apparently not the only baby in the future! Because Froya is actually already pregnant, or so Froya herself said when telling me she would probably need pregnancy leave in the future.

Why they had to split up the rest of the roles? I don’t know.)

DC United vs. Columbus Crew SC | 2018 Knockout Round Preview
div.video-js { width: 100% !important; height: 0 !important; overflow: hidden; position: relative; padding-top: 56.2%; }

D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew SC Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs — Knockout Round Audi Field — Washington, D.C. November 1 — 8 pm ET WATCH: FS1, UniMás, TVAS, TSN
Unbeaten in their last 10 games of the regular season, a confident D.C. United side return to Audi Field for the eighth time in their last nine games to host Columbus Crew SC in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round on Thursday night.
D.C. United sealed home-field advantage for the Knockout Round and earned the No. 4 seed in the East with a 0-0 draw against the Chicago Fire, coupled with the Philadelphia Union falling to New York City FC, 3-1, on 2018 MLS Decision Day presented by AT&T.
Crew SC, meanwhile, needed a 3-2 win over Minnesota United FC on at MAPFRE Stadium to clinch a playoff berth, jumping ahead of the Union into fifth place.
The teams split two regular-season meetings this season, each holding serve at home with Crew SC winning 3-1 at MAPFRE Stadium on March 24 with Ricardo Clark and Pedro Santos scoring two minutes apart just before halftime after Yamil Asad canceled out Milton Valenzuela’s opening strike.
Three weeks later, D.C. United prevailed 1-0 in a match played at Navy-Marines Corps Memorial Stadium. Ulises Segura scored the lone goal — his first in MLS — in just the first minute and D.C. played almost 40 minutes down a man after Paul Arriola was sent off after Video Review.
This is the fourth all-time playoff meeting between the MLS originals with D.C. United winning the first three, capturing 6-of-the-8 matches played. It is the first postseason encounter since the 1999 Eastern Conference Championship series. D.C. went on to beat the LA Galaxy to capture a third MLS Cup in the league’s first four years.
D.C. United
It was mission accomplished for D.C. United, which wanted to host a Knockout Round game and got the necessary result in a 0-0 draw in Chicago on Sunday.
There were few scoring chances on a rainy, blustery afternoon at Toyota Park, which suited D.C. just fine, knowing a road draw meant a return to Audi Field, where they are 12-2-1 since it opened on July 14. United also extended an unbeaten streak to 10 games dating back to a 2-0 loss at home to the Philadelphia Union.
I am very happy to be associated with this team,” said head coach Ben Olsen. “They are a gutsy group who have been able to win in a variety of ways over the last couple of months. The group understands that it doesn’t mean much right now. The fun part begins with a Knockout game at home in front of our fans. It’s a great opportunity and we don’t want to squander that. We want to keep playing as long as we can.”

Columbus Crew SC
It was a nervy few hours, but Columbus rebounded from back-to-back losses to defeat the Loons and book their playoff ticket on the final day of the regular season.
Gyasi Zardes put on his Superman cape, scoring the first of his three goals in the 11th minute before doubling the lead 4 minutes after halftime. Francisco Calvo responded with a brace of his own to level the score in the 77th minute, but Zardes completed his hat trick 6 minutes later to seal the win with his 19th goal of the season.
“This was a challenging year. I am really proud of the guys for staying focused and battling through adversity,” said head coach Gregg Berhalter. “It wasn’t the easiest scenario that we had to deal with and the guys hung in there. They focused on themselves and they focused on growing together as a unit and as a team. It is nice to compete now in the playoffs and our focus is now on going to D.C. (United) and playing a really good game.”

Consumer Guide / No.72 / Broadcaster & entrepreneur, Steve Crozier with Mark Watkins.
MW : Tell me about your background, and what did you want to do?
SC : I was born in Hertfordshire, England, and as a young child spent many summers with my grandparents in Henley, on the banks of the Thames.
When I was six, I remember my grandad always turning on the valve wireless to listen to the BBC Home service at 6pm, accompanied by a bottle of cider.
I remember hearing Frederic Mullaly read the bulletin, and was awestruck by his voice, and the power of disseminating world events.
After the news ended, Frederic would get into his car and drive from Broadcasting House to his home in Henley - very near to my grandparent’s riverside bungalow - and drink sherry with my grandpa and grandma!
I’d sit on the floor, just awestruck! That's when I knew what I wanted to do!
MW : How did you get into broadcasting?
SC : Via the back door of sales. At first, I didn’t make the cut for Reading’s Radio 210; at that time, in the mid 70s, I was in TV (ad) sales in London - which was well paid. Besides, that’s where I lived and I wasn’t experienced enough to work at LBC, or Capital Radio. I had my eyes firmly on the Reading ILR franchise which was awarded to Kennet Ltd (who then became Radio 210).
I made a tape at Roger Squires and mailed it to Kennets’ address, and made an appointment to meet with Neil ffrench Blake, who was Programme controller. We met in the Albermarle pub in Mayfair, London, and he referred me to Michael Moore, at The Sun, who was assembling 210’s sales department. News International, who owned The Sun, was part funding 210. Michael was a Murdoch Star, he hired me.
This new team started work about six months before launch in the Filberts building in Calcot row, which was the then HQ, while the ambulance shed next door was being attached and adapted for radio, and studio use. There were three of us: David Oldroyd from the local newspaper, Linda Brookes from Capital Radio and myself. We had a large area map on an easel into which we pushed glass top pins. It was like a War Room from an old movie!
As sales got underway, it was obvious that the actual radio spots had to be produced, so I moved to a production managers position, and we made hundreds of spots.
One week before our launch deadline, Neil ffrench Blake offered me an on-air job; Saturdays, 10am to 2pm. There was no shortage of live guests, and one of my first was David Cassidy! So, dear reader THAT’S how I got into radio!
MW : As a teenager, what records do you remember buying/collecting?
SC: As a teenager, I remember amongst the first records records I bought were Sgt Pepper, The Beatles White album, and some misc singles. They were expensive when ones only income was a newspaper round, and some occasional gardening work! An album was three pounds ten shillings, and a single was ten shillings or more.
MW : OK, let’s tune to 210...
SC : In the early days of 210, there was a huge shift in music tastes. Disco was giving way to mega rock bands (Eagles, Fleetwood Mac) and soul, R&B and funk were massive too. Soon, in the late 70’s Punk was to explode... actually, programmers and top-level DJ/ presenters (Bob Harris) hadn’t a good grasp of what was actually happening! Bob actually got into a fight with Sid Vicious at a club in London, and  “called it a day” with Whistle Test.
Tastes and audiences were changing.
At 210, there was a calm sea of music policy, enforced by Neil. The 210 Top 40 was a slow moving list, not sales based, but tailored to fit a certain pre-determined ‘sound’ like many of the programmers in the States.
DJ tastes were being eroded.
During my time at 210, us youngsters were always on the lookout to expand. Mike Read, Steve Wright, myself and others picked up a lot of outside gigs, mostly local disco work.
Thanks to my documentary and talk experience I got more varied offers such as British Forces Broadcasting which paid very well (I subbed for Tommy Vance) and then BOOM!
I successfully applied to audition for Esther Rantzens’  ‘That’s Life’. What a step up that would be...
MW : ...‘That’s Life’ ?
SC :  ...every couple of years or so, Esther’s reporter sidekicks would cycle-out, and replacements had to be found. To start the audition process, I spent a few weeks at BBC West London, picking out useable stories and building them into TV-worthy items. (The actual show was on summer break.) This culminated in a full TV studio recording WITH audience. Just like the real thing. There were about eight finalists (four pairs), and it was quite nerve wracking.
Sadly, I didn’t get the part; as seemed usual at the time, existing BBC reporters got the jobs... us outsiders were window dressing for this process, but it was super fun, a great experience. As a result, I became friends with the team, and often went up to TV centre to sit in on the tapings.
MW :  Capital Radio 194 went to air the same year as LBC in 1973, but it was Capital Radio 604 in South Africa that you later joined. How did you get involved, and how did the two “ Capitals” compare?
SC : In late 1978, a revolutionary radio station was being formed in London and Cape Town called Capital Radio. It had nothing to do whatsoever with either the South African government, or 194. Rather, it was to be based in an ‘Independent’ African State, called the Transkei. The aim was to broadcast uncensored news and music from the ‘Homeland’ of Transkei, south, and into South Africa, which was ruled by apartheid, and white supremacy.
604′s mission was to broadcast actual, real news, and play rock and pop which hadn’t been rejected by the SA government censors. Its transmitter was the “‘loudest” in the Southern Hemisphere, but the antenna system was misaligned, resulting in a poor AM signal to the intended audience. Short-wave and FM functioned to a point in Cape Town and to and extent, Johannesburg.
I was chosen to ship out to Port St. Johns, Transkei, and helped set up the broadcasting side. The main studio and staff base was located in a sleepy former fishing town called Port St. Johns, on the Indian Ocean. It was Paradise! It was also the first time I’d earned a five figure, untaxed salary! No outgoing except for high quality wine and spirits!
http://www.capital604.com/
MW : LBC celebrates its 45th anniversary this year - let’s look back at your time there...
SC : LBC is a book in itself! Suffice it to say that I joined as a jobbing freelance, doing late -night shifts and news, and then rapidly to traffic analyst (reporter) at Scotland Yard. This taught me London geography, almost like a black-cab driver. We then brought traffic in-house, when we added a small ‘plane sponsored by the Evening Standard, to view traffic congestion. As far as weekday presentation was concerned, I was usually co-anchoring with Philip Hodson, David Loyn etc.
My primary arc at LBC was news reading for Independent Radio News (IRN) and, for eight of my eleven years, I ran the syndicated travel programme ‘Time Off’. This was a way for us to showcase the many, varied press trip offers the station received. We were blessed with a huge audience, plus the central ability to satellite-out the components of the show, and also the entire one hour reel.
In the late eighties, when a lot of people went freelance (off staff) we worked through our own companies/ entities and I turned ‘Time Off’ into a cash machine, selling the sponsorships myself.
http://www.geofflumley.org.uk/lbc261/
MW : Melody Radio launched with the slogan 'At last - radio without the speakers' - as a launch presenter, what was it like?
SC : In 1990, Peter Black invited me to join Lord Hanson’s Melody Radio, which I did for four years. (A TV comedian at the time called it “Quiet FM”, orr was that Radio Two?!)
Nothing much happened here...apart from having the luxury of an actual producer for each show, including Roskos’ old producer Aidan Day, who was now scheduling easy listening!!
In 2005 off I went again... another adventure; this time to Nairobi and back to my TV roots to help redesign the Kenya Television Network (KTN) I was MD and CEO, and the re-shaping was drastic. In my early days there I bought first series of ‘ER’, ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, ‘Days Of Our Lives’ etc... paying the super cheap “Third World” rate card price. And boy did we milk it until the reels had to be returned!
PC’s and WIndows ‘95 had just come out, so we were all good! Such systems, good sales and top TV presenters, staff, and shows took us rapidly to the most watched in the land. We also had exclusive use of CNN International for news inserts and over-night programming. I was also tasked with designing two FM stations for Nairobi (population 6.5 million) which were up and running after I left.
MW : What constitutes your life now?
SC : I met my Colorado born wife-to-be in Nairobi - who was on a sabbatical from Southern California, and a career in law.
In May 1996 we were married in Manhattan Beach, a suburb of Los Angeles, and soon moved to Santa Barbara where she continued a successful career in Law, and is now the Assistant City Attorney.
We have a daughter, now at Berkeley, and I continue with my own media and web projects and a movie and TV project in development.
