New Experimental Folktronica Album: Skin Flake Stew

Today I put the finishing touches on my second full length album, its called Skin Flake Stew and is now available on my Bandcamp and soon be available on streaming services. https://macneilsketchley.bandcamp.com/album/skin-flake-stew

I will be making more content about the albums "singles" in the coming months but what you need to know is this album was almost entirely captured on my phone and is largely improvised. It mixes together Microtonal, Freak Folk, Folktronica, Hip-hop, Black Metal and Jazz among other things to give you the feelings that I had during three very rough days of my life. If you follow me or have heard my other album, this album is simultaneously a departure and what I feel like is the logical conclusion to the experimentation I was tapping into during that first album cycle. Nonstop needle drop: opening track “Married in Mount Airy” from Nicole Dollanganger’s 2023 record of the same name. Ominous, heavenly pangs. So delicately arranged it hurts. Like tinsel left to weather in the elements, metallic coating flecking away into a Christmas wind. Cried on my first listen, have continued doing so while burning sandalwood incense in my drafty bedroom, headphones glued in, rewinding if I miss even a millisecond of the various instrumental ephemera. Makes me want to wrap myself in damp peat Bella Swan New Moon-style and stare into a conifer abyss. For fans of Ethel Cain’s Preacher’s Daughter and Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell!
