The rest of the day was dull. Nothing new had happened in the games. Coriolanus made his way to his home. Tonight was the night of the gala. Tigris had informed that she had finished making his suit but didn't show him how it was. It was a surprise. All he knew was that it was approved by you.
He reached his penthouse. He is greeted by Tigris with a hug and a smile. Coriolanus smiles back at his cousin for good measure. Trying to hide his nervousness about attending this prestigious gala that could make or break Snow's reputation.
Tigris excitedly shows him the red tux she had designed for him. Coriolanus wears the suit, and can't take his eyes off himself in the mirror. He looked good, there's no doubt about it.
His cousin has magic in her eyes. He tells her so and watches her eyes brighten up. “Oh, Coryo,” she said, lovingly, “It's because it's you that it looks so good.” Snow doesn't argue.
“And what about her?” He asked, “Did you make her dress the same as mine?” Tigris won't even let him see the designs. He can only imagine his heart would stop beating when he sees you. He wondered if Tigris was fine with that.
“You'll know when you see her,” Tigris giggled.
He sighs in response.
Tigris also adds, “She's the reason we still have this place, Coryo. Be kind to her.”
Coriolanus furrows his eyes. What did Tigris mean? “What?” He asked, his tone sharp. Snow didn't need pity money. And you being the one giving him dollars was salt in the wound.
“The payment for the dresses…” Tigris begins to explain, “It's enough for this month's taxes and a few weeks of food.” Coriolanus' mouth dries, he had completely forgotten about the eviction note. With everything going on, he supposed that it was natural. But Tigris had taken the burden herself while he was no help.
“I am glad,” he mutters, feeling heavily indebted to you. He didn't like the feeling. He lets it linger in the corner of his mind. He says goodbye to grandma’am and Tigris. Then he was on his way to the presidential mansion. You had said that you'd meet him there.
He reaches the presidential mansion. The press surrounded the area with cameras. He swallows as he realizes every moment of his is being broadcast live. Much like when he was in the cage with Lucy Gray. He doesn't let the flashes bother him. He already knew his outfit would be the talk of the show and it was a great opportunity to let Tigris's name out there.
He feels a tap on his shoulder. He turns around. That's it. He's dead. His heartbeat stopped. He forgot how to breathe.
There's no other way to explain his reaction to you.
His sun and moon. You looked marvelous. Enough so that his breath was knocked out of his chest. How did people speak again?
“Hello,” he gasps out, his cheeks burning. He ignored the urge to trace his soulmate's scar. He looks away from you, unable to meet your eyes. Too pretty. Too fucking pretty.
“Hi, Coryo,” you said, wrapping your arm around his. You both walk up to the stairs of the mansion. “Is everything alright?” You asked, a bit worried as he wasn't meeting your eyes.
“Fine,” he mutters.
You hum in response, turning back to the cameras. All waves and smiles. He forgets to do the same as he has eyes on you. He watches you like a lovesick puppy. Until it's time to enter the gala.
He doesn't let his anxious thoughts take over. He counts his breaths as he walks into the mansion. The gala was filled with people. Even higher-up district officials were invited. Several army officers with high standings and even the peacekeeper heads of each district were attending. There were also his classmates.
Clemensia Dovecote. Festus Creed.
They were all present. He could see the Plinth couple, but their son was missing. Quite the idiot to miss this opportunity. More for him, he supposed. He leaves you behind to greet his friends.
“Clemmie,” he grins.
“Well, hello, Coriolanus. It's nice to see your family finally has an invitation. It was about time,” she smiles.
Coriolanus doesn't correct her assumption. He doesn't tell her that he is here as your date. He didn't deem it necessary.
“Did you bring a date?” Festus Creed asked.
Coriolanus shrugged and said your name, he also added, “Well, she was available.” Festus raised an eyebrow at Coryo’s dismissive tone.
“What about the kiss in the auditorium? Several hearts were broken, Coriolanus,” Clemmie jokes.
Coryo bit the inside of his cheek. He wanted to say something. But the fact you're District was surely fresh in his classmates’ minds. Telling them you're something to him wouldn't be much help with his goal for the gala. So, he shrugged, “Ah… well, we're all foolish sometimes.”
His classmates let it go. And he was glad.
Coriolanus seemed to completely forget about you as Clemmie and Festus introduced him to several elitists of the Capitol. People he can never meet through simple means. Coriolanus greets them, making small talk. Every time he mentions Lucy Gray, they're impressed. Even more so when they realize he's the reason that they can make such a contribution to the games.
In the conversation, Dr. Gaul joins. “Hello, Mr. Snow,” she greets him. She turns to the circle he was chatting up. The people were both in awe and afraid of Dr. Gaul. Just like him. She easily takes control of the conversation. Coriolanus does what he does best. Let the conversation flow in the favor of Dr. Gaul. He adds to the glory of the games and how it is necessary. He thanks the elitists for their funding.
From the gleam of approval in Dr. Gauls' eyes, Coriolanus felt proud like he never had before.
He wants to tell you about this immediately! He wanted you to be proud of him too. He had acquired several business cards by now. He had made an impression on everyone he talked to. If he won the Hunger Games, he wouldn't have to worry about university. After tonight, he won't have to worry after university is over either.
It was all because of you.
He feels dread in his mind when he can't see you anywhere on the floor. He finishes his drink, and excuses himself cordially from the conversation. He searches for you before he notices the stairwell leading to the roof. He decided to take the chance of finding you there.
He turned out to be lucky.
He finds you near the metal rails. You were leaning forward, your body facing the city lights. You looked like a part of the city view. He knew he had messed up as he walked closer to you. He left you alone the moment he could. A date wasn't supposed to do that. He knew that! But he was sure you would be understanding. He needed to take advantage of this night.
That's why you brought him here, right?
“Dove,” he said, taking your attention away from the view of the bustling nightlife.
“I see you're making connections, pup.”
“Pup?” he questioned, his tone turning wary.
“Of course, a pup. A pet wagging its tail to an owner who doesn't give a shit. Dr. Gaul, she treats you like an obedient dog baiting you with treats. For her you're disposable, a dog to put down when you'll bite her hand. And here you are in the gala I bought you too, kissing her ass in front of everyone as if they can't see through her bullshit.” You take a deep breath, trying to control yourself, “She sent you to death a day before, Coriolanus! If you're gonna continue to kiss her ass like a mindless pup wanting treats, by all means go ahead.”
Coriolanus takes a deep breath despite the fact he was offended; he didn't wanna fight with you. Coriolanus opens his mouth- he's interrupted by you before he can even begin speaking. You turned to face him. Your eyes glaring at him with anger.
“Not only that! You’re not disposable, Coryo. And I hate how people treat you that way. I am the only one who thinks that way. I am the one you left behind. You ran to Clemmie the moment you saw her and did you know what Festus Creed said to me? He said that I am here as your date and it's because I was available!”
“I have done so many things for you! From rigging the assignment of tributes to proposing the destruction of District thirteen. I have damned my morals for you! I would burn the world for you. And all I get is… this! It's fucking not worth it.”
You don't let Coriolanus speak a word. You tried to walk past him in a hurry but Coryo held your arm and pulled you back. He effortlessly pushes you onto the railing and traps you in.
“Don't talk to me that way,” Coriolanus said, his eyes blazing, his mind confused and his tone dark. “I know what I did was wrong. You should be understanding. What I am doing is for my future. I don't have the time to waste this night like you.” He doesn't bring up the mention of you rigging the tributes nor the nonsense of district thirteen. He will settle this first.
He continues, “What I was doing, it was to be expected. This was too good of an opportunity to let go of. Don't act stupid, dove. Act rationally.”
You scoff at his face and he feels his anger increasing. “Rationally? If you were rational, you would have waited for me to introduce you to the people. Do you know the power I carry, Coriolanus? Yet because of your prejudice against my background, you didn't use me to your advantage. I served myself to you on a silver platter and you left me to rot. Don't talk to me about rationality, love.”
“It's not because of your-” Coriolanus shuts his mouth when he sees tears falling down your cheeks. “Real or not?”
“Don't talk to me if you have to ask,” you sob.
He pulls you in his arms. He cages you, letting you ruin the suit with your tears. Due to the deep red fabric, the tear stains wouldn't be obvious. “I am sorry,” he whispered, genuinely.
He remembered your former words.
‘It's fucking not worth it.’
He tightened his hold around you, imprisoning you. He can't believe he messed this up this bad. The worst is it was his fault. He runs a hand through your hair, trying to calm you down. He whispers sweet nothings and apologies until the rise of your chest is steady.
“It's true. I have held prejudice against your background,” it felt wrong to admit this out loud. Coriolanus repeats, “I am sorry, dove.”
“You haven't been district for a long time and it's wrong for me to hold it against you. You're Capitol, not by blood but by deeds. It's more than enough.”
You pulled back, away from his arms. He mourns the loss in his mind, he wants to pull you in again immediately. You wipe your tears away. “I'll forgive you if you publicize our romance today.”
His eyes widened in shock. He wants to yell no! But then he remembered, ‘It's fucking not worth it.’ He takes a shaky breath, steeling his mind. He can't eat his words now. “Fine, sweetheart. You can tell the public Coriolanus Snow is yours and that you are mine.”
The smile you give him reminds him of a fox. He vaguely feels like he has fallen into a trap he can't get out of. Webs after web, he can't even imagine. He shakes himself clear of these thoughts.
You held out your hand, “Then come on Coriolanus Snow, my partner let me introduce you to some people who will like you very very much.”
He takes it. In his mind, he knows he has to ask you about the rigging and about the district that ruined his life.
He dreads it.

An Accountant’s Nightmare - Zhongli
Synopsis: Being the Wangsheng funeral parlor’s accountant and financial manager wasn’t as difficult as one would think. However, reigning in a certain walking encyclopedia’s spending habits from causing the establishment to go bankrupt is the true challenge in both keeping the parlor afloat AND your soul from ascending to Celestia with the amount of IOUs piling up on your desk. Never mind the wrath of the rock, but heed the wrath of a frustrated financial manager! (and the taxes demanded of from the Liyue’s government.)
Where Zhongli is a shopaholic and possibly in crippling debt, yet somehow its your problem.
Genre: SFW - Fluff and comedy.
Word Count: 2,359 words
“Master Zhongli, kindly explain this.”
Pausing midway from sipping his tea, the amber eyed consultant turned to face you as you held what seemed to be a small piece of paper in between your fingers. He placed the cup down on the table, confused as to why he was being disturbed during his allocated break hours, but heeded your request. Zhongli blinked once, scanning the contents of what was scribbled neatly on the piece of paper you were holding in front of him.
“I believe that is payment for the twin Cor Lapis and the jade bracelet I have purchased a few days ago in one of my walks down the harbor.” Zhongli explained, a small smile gracing his lips. “Yes, the quality of both items are superb as the artisans behind the craftmanship took great care in unearthing the Cor Lapis. As for the jade bracelet, the shine of the green ore was fascinating and reflected through its surface when the daylight hit. It would be a shame not to purchase such art.”
As Zhongli continued to speak, you couldn’t help your eyebrow twitch with every flowery word that dripped from his lips.
Crossing your arms, you scowled and tapped your foot impatiently. The man in front of you sensed your displeasure, but having no idea what caused it, he simply tilted his head to the side as he cupped his chin with his thumb and his pointer finger in question.
“Is there something wrong?” he asked in concern.
A sickeningly sweet and insincere smile curled up your lips. Behind you, Hu Tao and the other accountants of the parlor exchanged nervous glances. Well, the accountants looked pale enough with anxiety one could mistake them for nearing their death bed while Hu Tao was jokingly saying how she could prepare some extra caskets for the poor souls foolish enough to evoke your wrath.
“Master Zhongli!” You yelled, slamming your palm on the table loud enough to cause the other workers to flinch. “You spent almost half a million mora for the price of 3 items! It’s absurd!”
Zhongli was unbothered from your wrath, which somehow made you even more irritated. His nonchalance towards the matter certainly did not fan the flames of your temper, nor did hearing the prayers uttered under the breaths of the other workers in the parlor to Rex Lapis with the request of you sparing the poor consultant from his impending doom.
“The quality of the items matched the price it was sold. I’m quite confident that the mora spent for this transaction was of equivalent value to what has been received in exchanged.” Zhongli continued.
“That is not the point!” you said, ready to tear your hair out in frustration.
Upon seeing Zhongli’s clueless expression, you knew that this conversation would go nowhere. Zhongli had made himself a valuable part of Wangsheng Funeral parlor as a consultant. Liyue is an old nation rich with lore and myths, stories of old and traditions that had long been forgotten from the passage of time. His knowledge for the funeral rites of different people and cultures within Liyue has helped the parlor pay the proper respects to the dearly departed and, in turn, has allowed the business to thrive and gain reputation as a respectable establishment.
Despite his undisputable value and work as a consultant, his spending was a source of your never-ending battles against the financial forces of Liyue. Where Zhongli seems to know traditional rites, historical facts, and even the most forgotten lore about Liyue like the back of his hand, his inept ability to purchase anything lower than 50,000 mora for a single meal and the amount of IOU tabs being sent to the parlor was piling up more than a camp of hilichurls gathered around a precious treasure chest in the middle of nowhere. No matter how many times you have scolded and warned Zhongli not to purchase such expensive items and send the expenses for the parlor to cover, the tabs have yet to cease.
You sigh helplessly.
“Master Zhongli, I understand your appreciation for grandiose items, but I implore you to at least attempt to live within your means.” you said, voice on the verge of breaking. “You can’t keep walking around as if you can produce mora straight from your own body! Mora is very valuable and I’m sure the Geo archon himself would be astounded with your casual disregard for its importance in our daily lives!”
“Is... that so?” Zhongli said, strangely looking amused by your words. You didn’t let this stop you from your lecture.
“You have your own earnings, do you not?” you said, feeling your temper wane as you saw the consultant thinking carefully. “The economy and citizens of Liyue is still recovering after recent events, so mora is much more valuable now and spending it frivolously without thinking carefully would lead to more problems.”
“I do think carefully before purchasing,” Zhongli protested lightly. “In fact, before I purchase any items, I contemplate on the history and effort behind each and give the appreciation due its work and existence.”
Seeing how the point of your conversation completely flew above his head, you released a short sigh and clasped your hands together in a praying position as your face turned into a neutral and blank expression.
“Oh Rex Lapis, bestow upon me patience and grace.” You muttered to yourself. “If you grant me strength, there will be a job opening for a consultant by late this evening and an extra filled casket in the parlor.”
(While Zhongli was no longer the Geo archon, he could still hear any prayers mentioning his name. He may not see you as a threat, but there was a brief tingle of nervousness that ran down his spine upon hearing your words.)
Behind you, Hu Tao snickered at how hopeless the situation was. While she did agree with your reaction to the unbelievable expenses being sent their way, she wasn’t particularly bothered. The parlor would never be in danger of bankruptcy, seeing as it is the only funeral parlor in the entirety of Liyue after all. But seeing you so adamantly lecture Zhongli on how even the Geo archon himself would shame him for his spending problem (unaware of how the funeral parlor consultant was the former Geo archon himself) and seeing said consultant look like a scolded child was too amusing to miss.
“I meant for no trouble to come for anybody.” Zhongli said. “However, it seems I have caused such with my actions. So tell me, is there a way to rectify what I have done?”
You huffed and crossed your arms before looking at the amber-eyed man in front of you evenly. Try as you might to stay upset, it was difficult to maintain with how sincere Zhongli spoke. You knew he was always the eccentric individual, but was a kind-hearted and considerate friend to those he held dear. Neither of you two had grown close enough to be considered more than acquaintances, but only a fool would be blind enough not to consider Zhongli a respectable and sincere man.
And perhaps, you were overreacting. The expenses may have been ridiculous, but the items themselves can always be pawned or is in the ownership of the parlor as per contract terms and statements, so really the items Zhongli purchases could also be seen as an investment in its own sense.
For the nth time that hour, you released a sigh.
“We can start by discussing on only purchasing things you actually need or use.” you mumbled, chastising yourself for letting Zhongli off the hook simply because you didn’t want to admit you had a soft spot for him. “In fact, the items you purchased just a few days ago made no sense. Cor Lapis, jade bracelets, a bouquet of silk flowers, tailored suits- and an order for a pair of flower hairpins, you don’t even use hairpins- What are these even for?”
“A-ah, those purchases are actually-” one of the accountants tried to say behind you, but when you snapped your head towards them and scowled, they quickly shut up and looked away.
“I did indeed purchase those items three days ago from an antique shop and requested for a services to fix my suit.” Zhongli admitted casually. “As for those items, I planned to gift them to someone as a token of my gratitude for their hard work and hopefully ask them to enjoy a calm dinner with me.”
A small burning feeling of jealousy sparked inside of you, but you managed to keep it low enough so as not to let it reflect on your facial expression. Thankfully, your scowl of irritation was easy to mistake as due to Zhongli’s expenses instead of the discreet feelings you harbored for the amber eyed man in front of you.
“Is that so?” you said haughtily as you tried to mask your soured mood. “Well, then perhaps they should shoulder the cost of all these items.”
An amused smile appeared on Zhongli’s lips.
“That would be rather unfortunate for your case, as initially I purchased all these items for you in order to request for your time and spend the evening with you.”
“If this person is as grand and as deserving, maybe they should even shoulder your paycheck-” you continued to mumble bitterly until Zhongli’s words slowly dawned into your head.
You stared at Zhongli in disbelief. A small but mischievous smile quirked up ono his lips as he watched your face slowly redden at understanding his words.
“M-me?!” you said, unintentionally speaking 3 pitches above your normal voice register. “These- these absurd gifts were for me...?!”
“Yes, well-” Zhongli answered. “I did notice your fondness and hobby for collecting hairpins- especially those with a unique floral arrangement- so I procured a custom made one created from an old flower arrangement dated long before Liyue’s age as a center of commerce, the silk flowers were a part of the bouquet I planned on readying, and the jade bracelet simply caught my eye and I thought would suit you perfectly. I asked a dear friend of mine for pointers on how to ask another on a date.”
Any and all rational thinking quickly evaporated from your being as you were reduced into a flustered mess. Whether Zhongli seemed sheepish or even the least bit bashful of your state, he did not reveal through his facial expressions. Rather, he seemed to enjoy how you had turned redder than the ripest Jueyun Chili and how he was the source of it.
“I’m- I’m thankful-” you sputtered out. “- but it was unnecessary to go through these lengths.”
“Nonsense.” The amber eyed individual said firmly. “While I do believe the value of one cannot be measured easily in its weigh in gold, I could only hope to impress you with what I can afford to provide.”
A small and impressive ‘oooh’ echoed behind you and you almost forgot that you had an audience witnessing everything that was happening. The other coworkers seemed to look at Zhongli in a positive light whereas Hu Tao was simply watching everything unfold, sending a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows as her only indication that she was completely alright and undisturbed by the scene at hand. In an attempt to regain your dignity in front of your coworkers and boss, you cleared your throat and crossed your arms.
“Next time just ask me out normally.” you mumbled with pink still dusting your cheeks.
A deep chuckle was received as a response and you swore your heart did a somersault.
“Understood my dear friend.” Zhongli said as he slowly rose from his seat. “Now that lunch is over, I would be glad to resume my duties to the parlor.”
You nodded and was about to follow behind him until he raised his hand in a motion to stop you. Confused, you raised an eyebrow at him.
“Ah, but since you’re already here, I suppose you can directly receive this invoice instead of having it sent to you. Many thanks again for your hard work.”
You were about to ask Zhongli what invoice he meant until a soft tap on your shoulder caught your attention. As you turned around, a piece of paper was shoved in front of your face and you gingerly took it before giving the waiter who handed it out to you a curious look.
“Here’s the payment for today’s lunch!” The waiter said as they allowed you to pick up the paper from them.
“Well, Mr. Zhongli, speaking of working on your spending habits!” You said, smiling a bit as you realized you found the perfect opportunity. You were about to call out to the consultant’s name when you realized he was nowhere to be seen nearby, almost as if he was never there in the first place.
Rolling your eyes lightheartedly, you decided to let him off the hook again for this time since he had been thoughtful enough with trying to find a proper way to ask you out on a date.
‘Maybe this bill won’t be that bad.’ You mused. ‘After all, all he ordered was-’
“One serving of qingce stirfry, two bowls of tianshu meat, three bowls of crystal shrimp, one serving of bamboo shoot, one bowl of adeptus temptation, and two servings of jade parcels. This is excluding the take-out food service of adeptus temptation to be delivered to Wangshu Inn under the name of the Traveler and their flying companion.” The waiter said as they listed off all of Zhongli’s orders continuously.
You stayed quiet.
“Oh, and that would amount to a total of 350,000 mora sent to the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor’s tab!”
A few seconds of tense silence passed before Hu Tao and the other workers started to slowly back away, sensing the quick shift in your demeanor and also seeing how your form visibly started to shake. The waiter, seemingly undisturbed nor fazed, continued to smile happily as they watched you crumple the receipt in your hand and the flames of your wrath surrounded your body.
“ZHONGLI!”

A thing I have learned, living where I live (extremely expensive suburb of an extremely expensive major city) is that either you are in finance or a family member helped you buy your house.
Full disclosure my father in law bought us our house and he is our mortgage holder and we pay our mortgage to him and not to a bank! That is also why I am freaking out that I've forgotten to pay our property taxes! bc I do it myself! I know many people buy their own houses and we were going to do that anyway the regular way but this was a good financial solution for everyone, particularly because Adam can't get life insurance so if something tragic happens to him, the mortgage will be forgiven and I'll own my house outright and not have to worry about making that payment until Andrew Garfield comes for me.
Anyway! Money is hard and weird but more people than you think are getting help from their parents or work in finance and are essentially thieves! bye bye!

A Blank Canvas appears!
With a Yen-shaped cowlick, it seems to be Taxes this time.
Stacked on its head is a large family-sized bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken, still hot and crisp and steaming hot with the delicious fragrance of the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices. The Colonel's face is seen smiling genially from a corner of the container.
A contingent of sides consisting of mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and coleslaw is carefully arranged inside a large bag on the ground.
Several extra-large-sized cups are provided and filled with Sprite, Coke, and Root B-
Sluurrrrrrp.
Okay, maybe not the Root Beer.
The BC finishes loudly slurping its purloined soda and shoves the fried chicken leg it was eating into its mouth. A hand free, it juts it out as if to ask for payment or maybe food.
Leo is sitting on Elliot's bed with a book propped against his knees, the earlier offer of fried chicken long forgotten already. Engrossed as he is in his reading, he looks up quickly when something appears in the corner of his vision. He stares at the Blank Canvas for a few seconds, stock still, lips pressed tight, the rest of his expression hidden as he tries to comprehend exactly what's going on here.
Two things occur to him at once:
That Chi hadn't been kidding about that offer
and
That Elliot would be returning from the bathroom any second.
Leo suddenly claps his book shut, expression seemingly unchanged, and crawls out of the bed hastily, with a noticeable glance to the bathroom door. "you cannot be here," he half whispers, half orders, as he grabs the bucket first, then the bag. He looks at the hand held out to him in confusion, and finally ends up shaking it with his own free hand. Then he turns it around rather forcibly by the shoulders and tries to push the unwelcome visitor.... Where? He can't put them out in the hallway, for anyone else to find!
Instead, he directs them toward the closet, just as he hears the toilet flush. "shoo!" he hisses at the Canvas in desperation.

What did the Spanish guy do that makes it a moral obligation to share his identity?
Google Spain v AEPD and Mario Costeja Gonzalez is the big case that established a variant of the right to be forgotten as a principle of EU law. (Technically the court rejected a formal Right to Be Forgotten, but enshrined a right for the subject of data to have it removed under various circumstances.)
Mario Costeja Gonzalez had his home repossessed and sold for tax debts in 1998. There was a newspaper announcement about it to solicit bids, and this announcement was eventually put on the internet.
In 2009, this was a top hit when you googled Costeja's name, which Costeja thought was unfair because it had happened a decade earlier. He asked the newspaper to pull the information down, and the newspaper refused because it was published by government order. So then Costeja wound up suing Google to require it to remove links to the data; he won his suit and Google was required to scrub links to that fact.
(Of course this did in fact Streisand; when you search the dude's name all the hits are about this case. But they're about the case itself, not about the fact that Mario Costeja Gonzalez had his home repossessed and sold in 1998 for delinquent tax payments.)

(Steve artwork was tagged on pinterest to petite-madame)
Squirrels darted across the cobblestone in the garden as you sat at the table, waiting for the servants to bring out your breakfast. The squirrels eagerness to search for food served as a reminder fall had arrived and they were preparing for the winter ahead. Your book drooped in your grasp, your attention following the scampering instead. You never thought you would be jealous of a squirrel – but they had the freedom to go where they pleased.
Your food was placed in front of you, and you thanked them, closing your book and laying it on the table.
You heard Steve’s voice from inside the house and you sighed, buttering your bread. As his footsteps drew near, you looked up as you took a bite. He was dressed only in his robe – he must not plan to go anywhere today. He had been home for over a couple of weeks, leaving during the day, and returning to bed you at night. Your bruises from the night he came back were almost faded – without resistance following that night, he had not made new marks.
Instead of greeting you with a good morning, he pulled his chair back, commenting, “You’re inviting those rodents to come grab your food by letting them get so close.”
“They aren’t bothering me.”
“You haven’t bled,” Steve changed the subject without bothering to respond to you.
It was true. He had come home what should have been about mid-cycle for you and it was time for your monthly bleeding or should be.
“There’s still time,” you replied, staring down at your bread.
“For your sake, I should hope there’s not,” Steve replied coldly as his food was placed in front of him. His eyes were boring into you.
What pleasant breakfast discussion. You should have gotten up earlier so you would not have to suffer his mood and abrasive comments.
“So for my sake if not… you will allow another man to pay to be in between my thighs?” you asked him indifferently in return, dipping your knife back into the butter. “You would think with the amount that happens here, one might start questioning the men instead of the women for fault.”
Steve’s fist hit the table and you startled at the china rattling, dropping your butter knife adding to the clatter.
“How many times must I remind you to bide your tongue, woman?” he sneered. You bristled at the term ‘woman’ and even more so his condescending tone. But yes, you had forgotten your tongue and let it get away from you once again. “I have no plans to have you lay with another man. Considering I’ve been one used in those circumstances, I do not doubt I have no fault in this. No, this will fall at your feet.” There was a malicious glint in his gaze and you tore your own away, not being able to stand to look at him any longer. “So, if you are smart, you would realize you should hope you have taken my seed and do well with it. If not, well… I may have to get creative in other ways. I will not have a barren wife.”
The hair on your arms stood on end with the chill in that comment. He snorted, picking up his own bread to begin buttering it. Hand shaking, you reached forward to grab yours up off the table. You could not imagine what cruel ends Steve could and would go to if you did not fulfill what he wanted. It almost made you prefer the idea of home. At least there you knew what to expect.
<><><>
Lettie and you sat close, looking out over the viewpoint from the Barnes’ back yard. The water stretched out ahead and the breeze from the surface reached you. Saskia sat at the head of the triangle, working on her needle point. She was focused, happy to stitch a design for her expected child. Hearing Steve’s threat the other week, you were having an easier time understanding how Saskia could reconcile the vile act she had been subjected to with the news of her pregnancy. Being pregnant was the key to the women of the capitol’s safety.
You were working on a painting; hand stitching never having been a skill of yours. You were being careful to not spill the paint on the blanket you were sitting on. Lettie was watching you work out of the corner of her eyes, her hands stilling every time something caught her eye on your canvas. You had not failed to notice that she was stitching lilacs – she had mentioned they were her favorite. Like Saskia, she was a natural at stitching and the different shades of purple were coming together to create a realistic rendition of the sweet smelling flower.
“Lord Parker was asking after you,” Saskia said to Lettie out of the blue breaking the silence.
Your heart skipped a beat, your hand faltering. You swallowed, making sure to not steal a glance at Lettie although you felt her freeze as well. There were only a couple of moments of silence.
“Oh?’ was all Lettie said, nonchalant.
“He seems interested,” Saskia replied, eyeing Lettie with a coy glint.
Lettie cleared her throat and asked evenly, “Isn’t he… young?”
Saskia snorted, “Younger but not too young. You would do well to see if he will pursue further. He is Lord Stark’s ward after all. He’s not a nobody.”
Laying her work at her lap, she made eye contact with Saskia now. “What do you propose I do?”
“Oh, Lettie. You know what to do. Flirt. But not overtly. Catch his attention. Draw him in with your eyes. Be coquettish. You have watched the other ladies. Surely you’ve picked up on how this game works.”
She certainly did. But it had not been tried on a male as far as you knew. She had done well enough to draw you in though. You were feeling jealously beginning to scratch away in the inside at the thought of her flirting with Lord Parker… being courted. And if it led to -- no, you pushed the thought away before you got too lost in a spiral.
“I suppose I have.” Lettie responded. “I’m just… uncertain.”
“Like I said. He’s not a nobody. This could be a fruitful match. And who knows? Once you begin to know him, perhaps there will be a spark.”
You wondered if Saskia had felt that hope when she had been courted by Bucky. And if she had, when that spark would have died when he showed his true nature. Lord Parker being under Lord Stark’s wing led you to believe there was very little change Lettie would ever feel anything for him and vise-versa.
“One can only hope,” Lettie said quietly.
“I will ask Bucky to invite him and Tony out to lunch this week.”
“Would you like company if Lettie is going to be preoccupied with Lord Parker?” you asked trying to keep the desperation out of your tone at wanting to be close by during this exchange.
“Oh, Y/N. I did not mean to leave you out. Of course you and Steve are welcome to come. And yes, I would like someone to talk to rather than staring off into space while Tony and Bucky talk about lords know what while Lettie and Peter get to know each other.”
You forced a small smile, “Wonderful. I look forward to it.”
<><><>
Lettie looked so uncomfortable with Peter hanging off her arm. He had not left her side since she was introduced to the room. You suspected this whole thing had been set up by the two families to get Lettie off their plate. She was a good match but Saskia having a hand maiden for too long would look improper in the capitol’s eyes.
How you wished to be the one on her arm and not him.
He had kept her on the dance floor for the majority of the time and the slight twinge in her expression told you her feet were beginning to ache. Steve had been preoccupying himself with a separate group than the one Tony was socializing with, which meant that she was not left beside you when Peter went to fetch her drinks.
You locked eyes and tried to give her a reassuring smile. The one she gave in return was weak.
“She shouldn’t look so miserable,” Saskia whispered in your ear, startling you. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
“It’s okay,” you said, running your hand over your ear nervously. “She is probably just nervous. I don’t believe it is ingratitude for the situation.”
“Nerves or not, we ladies taught her better. And I explained it to her. You explained it to her how important is that she finds favor with him, and this goes through,” Saskia continued. You held your tongue at the comment that you were pushing Lettie towards this. “They will make a lovely match. Think of how lovely their children will be.”
You smiled convincingly and gave a curt nod.
“Perhaps I can get Bucky to invite Peter and her over here…” Saskia said more to herself than anything before turning away from you.
Sighing, you looked to the other side of yourself and gave a slight tug on Steve’s satin sleeve. His eyes slid towards you away from the conversation and you gestured with your glass for him to fetch another. You wanted another to try to distract yourself from the idea of Lettie having children.
“No more wine,” Steve said in hushed tones in your ear. “You’ve had a glass, you should not risk more with the babe. Be happy I let you have the one… soon it will be none when I can officially announce once you are a month past your date. And that is coming up quickly.”
Your hand dropped and you began to turn back away from him but he caught you. He took your goblet and said, “Water will do you well.”
He left and you stood alone.
You shot a look over to Lettie and found her turned away from you as well, Peter’s hand flexing on her back possessively.

Taxing Relations
Ship: The Sheriff of Nottingham x Gabriel of Blackburn
Word Count: 709
Summary: The Sheriff comes to personally collect Gabriel's taxes. Gabriel cannot and will not pay. CWs for relationship strain, religious themes, brief suggestiveness. I had no good ideas for a "moodboard" for this fic so enjoy this gif I found of my mans running SHEHAHAH (light-hearted)
Tag List: @canongf @futurewife @myers-meadow-selfship (<- saw the nice tags you left on my other sheriff works and thought you might like to know when the next part came out! :0) )
Gabriel was reorganizing his room at the church when a knock came at his door. Unsurprised and bracing himself, he opened it. The man he’d normally consider a good friend, the Sheriff of Nottingham, stood before him with a wooden box.
“Sheriff,” he greeted stiffly, respectfully inclining his head. “What brings you here on a Friday afternoon? Come to atone for the week’s sins early?”
The sheriff smiled dangerously back at him. “Oh, very good quip, Gabriel, unfortunately, no. Your tax payment was late last month, I thought I’d catch you early this time.”
“Sheriff, why doesn’t the bishop give you my taxes?” Gabriel asked, furrowing his brow. “We should be paying the tax collectively as members of the church. We both live here, for the lord’s sake.” He absently touched the cross hanging from his neck as he spoke.
“It’s not my business as to why he makes you pay separate taxes. Perhaps you should take it up with him. Now, please, be cooperative…” The sheriff held out the box, opening it and revealing money and other valuables from Nottingham’s peasants.
“I’ve just spent the last of this week's pay on groceries. You’ll just have to wait until the bishop pays me on Sunday.”
“By then you’ll be late again.”
“Better late than never.”
“I don’t want this becoming a habit with you, Gabriel,” a muscle in the sheriff’s cheek twitched in irritation. “I fear it’s putting a strain on our relationship.”
Gabriel bit back a bitter laugh. “Fine, why don’t you come in while I scrounge up what change I can find?”
The sheriff entered, and though he was no larger than a normal man, his dark shape seemed to suffocate the room as Gabriel turned to his dresser, pretending to open it and search for any forgotten money he might’ve had. He stood patiently in the corner, collection box still held out toward Gabriel. Closing the top drawer, they dropped to their knees to open the second. They could feel the sheriff’s hazel eyes concentrated on the back of their neck.
“Well?”
“I’m sorry, sheriff, but I don’t have anything. And you know I wouldn’t lie under God’s roof,” Gabriel turned as it closed the second drawer, still on the floor as it looked up at the lawman, pinpointing the exact moment a less controlled thought crossed the sheriff’s mind.
“That you wouldn’t,” the sheriff spoke roughly, hoisting Gabriel onto its feet.
“So strong and forceful, as you usually are, sheriff,” Gabriel spoke in a teasing voice, stepping closer to the taller man and reaching up to stroke the back of his luxurious black waves.
“If I wasn’t, this city would fall into chaos.” The sheriff faltered slightly, his guard still up and unsure on if to lean into the suggestive touch. He cleared his throat, glaring down at his companion. “If you have nothing to give, perhaps we can agree on an alternative payment.”
Gabriel grinned and the sheriff’s eyes twinkled, thinking he had gotten Gabriel into a position that benefitted the both of them, only for Gabriel to grind his heel into his foot, simultaneously grabbing the back of his cloak.
“Not today, sir. Sorry.” Mustering up all of his body strength, Gabriel steered the sheriff out of his room and closed the door behind him, locking it quickly.
“Gabriel!” The sheriff shouted from the other side, seething over his injured foot and pounding on the door. “I’m trying to be patient with you!”
“You know, I think what I’ve heard about Locksley is sounding pretty good right now!” Gabriel shouted back. He heard the sheriff make a sound of rage before walking away. Sucking in a breath, Gabriel rested his back against the locked door, wrapping his fist around his cross and glancing up at the ceiling. He knew things were getting testy, now. His next wrong move could surely end in an arrest. He didn’t like to fight with the sheriff, considering how well they had started off, but he could not ignore the fact he was bleeding the inhabitants of Nottingham dry. Gabriel had heard Robin intended to steal back what had been taxed from the peasants and return it to their rightful hands. God, how he hoped this was true.

K’s rebranding continues. Posts a story about involvement in a youth cancer charity.
Hey K, we still haven’t forgotten about 2021 Astroworld.
Also, those of us with a non-profit background know it’s important to keep an eye on financial statements.
Why is this important to mention? Beware of wealthy people who issue press releases about charity work/donations as often it is a tax write-off. Also, more importantly, beware of wealthy people who point charities out without contributing anything or anything substantial (or, similarly pointing out a GoFundMe and asking others to contribute when she, a multimillionaire, could have just made a private payment to help the individual out).
Again, why mention? Because this sort of repeated behavior is the conduct of someone Timothee has chosen to publicly align himself with.
I saw that story . I mean they built a cancer center for young people, in any case this is a good thing. For the other things you said to me I knew Astroworld terrible tragedy but I don't know other about her fam

Managing Finances as a Family Member Ages: Practical Tips for Loved Ones
As our family members grow older, helping them manage their finances becomes increasingly important. Taking steps early can prevent stress and uncertainty later. This support isn’t just about managing money – it’s about helping our loved ones maintain their independence and quality of life.
Many families find it challenging to start conversations about money. However, waiting until a crisis occurs often leads to rushed decisions and missed opportunities. By planning ahead, both you and your ageing family member can feel more confident about the future.
This guide offers practical steps to help you support your ageing family member with their finances. Whether you’re just starting to think about this responsibility or are already helping manage day-to-day expenses, you’ll find useful information to make the process easier.
Remember that every family’s situation is different. What works for one person might not work for another. The key is to start early, communicate openly, and adjust your approach based on your family member’s needs and preferences.
By taking action now, you can help your loved one maintain control over their finances while ensuring they have the support they need. This guide will help you understand where to begin and how to move forward effectively.
Assessing the Current Financial Situation
Understanding your family member’s financial position is an essential first step. Start by gathering information about their income sources, such as pensions, investments, and benefits. Make a list of their assets, including property, savings accounts, and valuable items.
Next, review their regular bills and expenses. This includes:
Housing costs (mortgage or rent, council tax, utilities)
Insurance payments
Food and household items
Medical expenses and prescriptions
Transport costs
Entertainment and social activities
It’s helpful to look through several months of bank statements to spot patterns in spending and identify any recurring payments that might have been forgotten.
Having honest conversations about money matters can feel uncomfortable, but they’re necessary. Choose a quiet time when both you and your family member feel relaxed. Ask about their financial goals and concerns. Some helpful questions include:
What are their main worries about money?
Are they finding it difficult to manage any bills?
Do they have specific wishes for their savings or property?
Are there activities or items they want to ensure they can continue to afford?
Keep notes of these discussions and any important details you discover. This information will help you create a practical plan that respects their wishes while ensuring their needs are met.
Budgeting and Expense Tracking
Creating a clear budget helps everyone understand how money is being spent and where adjustments might be needed. Start with a simple list of monthly income and expenses. Many people find it helpful to use basic spreadsheet programs or budgeting apps to keep track of everything in one place.
For income, include all regular payments such as:
State pension
Private pensions
Benefits
Investment income
Rental income
Break down expenses into categories:
Essential costs (housing, food, utilities)
Healthcare expenses
Transport
Social activities
Subscriptions and memberships
Several free apps can make expense tracking easier. Apps like Money Dashboard or Emma work well for UK users. These tools can automatically sort expenses into categories, making it simpler to spot areas where costs could be reduced.
Consider setting up direct debits for regular bills to prevent missed payments. Many utility companies offer better rates for customers who pay this way. Keep all receipts and statements in a folder or take photos of them with your phone. This helps track spending and spot any unusual charges quickly.
Review the budget monthly at first, then every three months once patterns become clear. This regular check helps identify any changes needed and ensures the budget stays realistic and workable.
Legal and Administrative Preparations
Planning ahead for financial management is essential. Setting up a Power of Attorney (POA) allows a trusted person to handle money matters if needed. This arrangement can be particularly helpful if your family member becomes unable to manage their finances themselves.
Important steps include:
Gathering all account details and passwords in a secure place
Making a list of all regular bills and payment dates
Checking that key documents are up to date
Ensuring important papers are stored safely
Setting up online banking access if helpful
Keep copies of important documents and note their locations. This includes:
Bank account details
Insurance policies
Pension information
Property documents
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate (if applicable)
It’s wise to plan for various situations, including unexpected health changes. Having these preparations in place gives everyone peace of mind and makes managing finances more straightforward if extra support becomes necessary.
Planning for Long-Term Care and Unexpected Costs
Looking ahead to potential care needs is an important part of financial planning. Start by understanding the different types of care available and their costs. This might include:
Home modifications
In-home care services
Day centres
Care homes
Medical equipment
Research what support is available through the NHS and local council. Some people might be eligible for attendance allowance or other benefits to help with care costs.
Set aside money for unexpected expenses when possible. This could help with:
Emergency home repairs
Medical equipment
Extra care support
Changes to living arrangements
Unexpected bills
Consider speaking with an independent financial adviser about ways to make savings last longer. They can explain options for managing money over the long term.

Creating a Support SystemManaging finances shouldn’t fall to just one person. Creating a network of support makes things easier for everyone. Consider including:
Other family members
Trusted friends
Financial advisers
Community support groups
Regular family meetings can help everyone stay informed and share responsibilities. These meetings are good times to:
Review the current situation
Discuss any concerns
Share updates about bills or expenses
Plan for upcoming needs
Make decisions together
Keep good records of all discussions and decisions. This helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures everyone knows their role in providing support.
Conclusion
Taking care of an ageing family member’s finances requires patience, planning, and regular attention. Starting early gives everyone time to adjust and make thoughtful decisions. Remember these key points:
Begin conversations about money early
Keep good records
Create clear budgets
Plan for future needs
Build a support network
Review and adjust plans regularly
While managing family finances can feel overwhelming at first, taking it step by step makes it more manageable. Focus on open communication and regular reviews of your plans. Remember that asking for help when needed is a sign of good planning, not weakness.
By following these guidelines and adjusting them to fit your situation, you can help ensure your loved one’s financial well-being while maintaining their dignity and independence.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: When is the right time to start helping with financial management?
A: Start discussions early, ideally before any issues arise. Beginning these conversations when your family member is still active and independent allows for better planning and smoother transitions.

Bank account statements
Pension information
Insurance policies
Property documents
Birth certificate

October 4, 2024
It's the day after Heartstopper released, and to say that I feel like how Nick and Charlie were during the first half is an understatement. I do this thing where after I watch something that is sad I take on that personality. Whether it's that I realize how shit my life is, or it's the kind of attention seeking where you think a camera is on you, and if you don't show signs of struggling then people might not take you seriously. Regardless, I have been feeling like shit.
Its been a long time coming, and I'm not so sure why I'm wondering where it came from. Money problems are the root of all evil, because how dare we give people a livable wage so that we can eat and pay rent. Insane.
Before I get into anything truly crazy, and if there are even any people that are going to be reading this (as I will post tags), I feel like I should introduce myself. My name is Anon, not that it's my actually name, it's just how you will refer to me. I am going to share as little information about myself as possible. It's the internet, and it's crazy at how obscure things can be traced back to you, and for some of the things that I wish to talk about, its better to have that barrier between my life and strangers online. Growing up on the internet you realize the comfort that can come from people not knowing who you are. My pronouns are they/them, though I really don't care. I am going to be turning 23 soon and I have 2 cats that will also remain nameless. That is all you get to know about me.
I truly don't know why I am writing this on the internet, I think I am just trying to live my best TV guru life where the star of the show is struggling, but it's only when they discover her hidden tumblr page do they realize the signs were all there. Not that I am going to do anything, like I said I have cats that need me and I need them. Can't imagine being anywhere without their presence in my life. I also want people to know that they're not alone, even if it's just one person who knows that another person is feeling just as shit as they are, that's all I want. Call it the older daughter, middle sibling treatment where we know how shit people can feel, and it was our job to put people back together (or to stay out of the way cause we were made to feel like we were always in the way). Truthfully the picking and choosing which sibling has the most family trauma from getting forgotten is all horseshit to me (though it is the middle one).
Anyways, now that that long intro is over, let's get into the main topic of the day. Heartstopper.
I align myself more with Isaac than I care to tell anyone really. It's not an easy topic to breach when you don't even know yourself. I've had crushes, sure, and I think it's why I really want a Solitaire spinoff is so we can see that kind of figuring out without the main topic being love. While I love the love!, it's also just as important as to see that not everyone wants that, or can even feel that. I have had crushes and boyfriends and one girlfriend, and I adore women and think I need to be committed to a woman to fully know if I do want that kind of thing in my life. I am completely okay with being alone, and if I am asexual and aromantic, I think I need to cover all my options. I think I'm more demi where I need to know someone for a long time before I can start loving them. Which sucks when that is not how society works right now. Its all "date someone and then tell them you love them a few months later", and that entire concept is just so weird to me. Like don't you date someone because you love them? Anyways, I think that is a huge part of why I am feeling this weight all over me.
Uncertainty hurts, and its alot of what I am feeling right now. I am scared for the future because I'm 23 and not in school, dropped out actually, I am in a minimum wage job, moved out, no car, and in debt already because of messed up taxes and being fired from 2 jobs this year, so I was on payments from the government that I have to give back, plus school loans that was all for nothing. So money issues, and then being lonely when I don't want to be, but I also am scared of being in a relationship because my last big and long one ended and I haven't been able to long another person like that since. Feeling like I am letting people down when I know that I am trying my best, but feeling like my best isn't good enough and I am one bad day away from a "we need to talk" conversation. No one tells you how hard it is growing up being in an environment of 'your best isn't good enough' and then being surrounded by people who just want to see you be the best version of yourself and wouldn't get upset with you for trying, and trying to rewire your destructive brain to accept that view. It's hard, and it's hard to have those conversations that showcase that you're trying, and then trying to self-therapize yourself while looking to websites and pinterest for quotes that make you feel better.
I've also been listening to Aurora, her music has really been helping me get through this time as her music makes me cry when I'm sad. It itches that part of my brain that just wants to run away from all the pressure of being someone. This world is so hard set on being someone, and if you fall anywhere short of that then you're treated as if you have failed life. And if you want to be someone, the realization that you're nothing but ordinary hurts. But, when I am feeling that way I look at the people around me, who would classify themselves as the ordinary, and I look at them and I see anything but. I see them being the reason that I keep trying to get better, and them being the literal light in my life. To me, they are anything but ordinary. I remember the little moments of someone that I look up to, a streamer that I've been watching for 2 years, and how every time someone tells him that he helps them get through the day and he treats himself as ordinary, but he's not. I think about how he knows my name in his chat, and that people in his fandom know me on social media, and are nothing but loving and encouraging, and that they are not ordinary either, and they create and put so much good into this world to even be classified as that. No one is just ordinary, but it doesn't help the voice in my head that is telling me that I am the only ordinary thing in this world. That all of my love in art and writing and reading and video creating amounted to nothing but unfinished projects.
I think I just need to get diagnosed and it will all be better, but I don't know what my insurance covers and no one wants to diagnose and overweight presenting-woman.
That's all I am going to dump about today. See you tomorrow, maybe not.
Just know you're not alone,
Anon <3

Teen Representation in Cinema
“The cinema has no boundary; it is a ribbon of dream.” - Orson Welles
Are teens accurately represented in films and TV shows? Host Keerthi and reporter Hasini don’t think so. They tackle this issue and agree that teens are often written by adults who have forgotten their teen years and played by older adults. There is a focus of focus on stereotypes (like the nerd, the jock, the mean girl), but not enough on the complexities and nuances that reel teens experience. Filmmakers forget that real teenagers are mostly just trying to figure out how to get a good grade while avoiding their parents’ endless “life lesson” conversations. Teens are still depicted as either effortlessly cool or hopelessly awkward. It’s like directors have a script that says, “Let’s make the teen either an Instagram influencer who has their entire life figured out or someone who doesn’t understand the concept of a phone charger.” There’s rarely an in-between. Hasini thinks that, Euphoria, has done a great job of reflecting the real world. The show addresses issues like mental health, addiction, gender identity, and trauma, and it doesn't shy away from showing the raw, messy realities that many teens face. The characters are complex, flawed, and very real, which makes them relatable. Keerthi notes that cinematic portrayals are like candy—deliciously sweet but not very nutritious. They offer an escape from reality and a chance to dream about lives more glamorous, dramatic, or adventurous than our own. In conclusion, let’s celebrate the diversity of teenage experiences in cinema. Let’s have characters who are awkward, unsure, and who occasionally wear the same clothes three days in a row. Every teenager deserves to see themselves represented in a way that’s as real as their struggle to keep their room clean.

Backup Withholding, The Forgotten Piece of the 1099 World
Backup withholding, also known as backup tax withholding, is a federal requirement applied to payments made to independent contractors when their taxpayer identification number (TIN) is missing or incorrect. This withholding ensures income taxes are collected on these payments. It is required when a contractor’s TIN is not provided at the time of payment or in specific cases involving CP-2100 notices. If a contractor does not respond to a CP-2100 letter within 30 days, backup withholding must be applied to future payments. This withholding is reported on forms like the 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC. Despite its importance, the Treasury Inspector General has found that backup withholding errors occur over 400,000 times annually, highlighting significant compliance issues.

Overview of GST
Goods and Service Tax (GST) is a comprehensive tax levied on the supply of goods and services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer. It is designed to replace multiple indirect taxes previously levied by the central and state governments. By merging these taxes into one, GST aims to simplify the taxation process, making it more transparent and easier to manage.
Importance of GST in India
GST has significantly impacted the Indian economy by creating a unified tax structure. This change reduces the cascading effect of taxes and promotes seamless trade across state borders. For businesses, it means less paperwork and more efficient tax compliance, while consumers benefit from reduced tax burdens on goods and services.

long post about the aftermath of settling my grandma's estate
so my uncle was staying with us for about a month bc he had to move out so we could sell grandma's house after she passed and it was quite a ride. him staying here wasn't really a problem, but the entire saga of getting grandma's estate in order was a mess. My eldest aunt was in charge of everything and my uncle kept accusing her of being bossy and controlling when she kept telling him he had to be ready to move out by a specific date so we could get the house on the market and have a sale finalized before the deadline came to pay this year's property taxes, so the money from grandma's estate could go to her family instead of paying taxes on a house he could only afford to stay in because he was living there expense-free keeping my grandmother company and helping her around the house.
i learned in this process that the reason my uncle even came back to our state and moved in with grandma 10-15 years ago was because he was dodging child support! which surprised me, bc i had been assuming for all these years that he had some kind of disability or something that prevented him from being able to get a driver's license (his brothers and sisters had to make a rotation for who was going to buy groceries that week for grandma because she was too old and frail to drive) but it turns out the reason he never got one was because if he was in a government database, he could be found and forced to pay to support the child he helped create! imagine the horror!
like, this is a guy in his late sixties/early seventies who dragged his feet endlessly about moving out of that house. he wouldn't listen to his sister, so my aunt asked my dad to go over and talk some sense into him. because when his sister tells him "the realtor says you have to be out the last day of the month" she's bossy and annoying and doesn't know what she's talking about because he's sure the realtor is totally okay with him living there while they show the house but when his brother says "you have to be out by the end of the month so the realtor can show the house" suddenly it's a reasonable request that makes sense given that people typically want to see all the rooms they're buying when they buy a house, instead of seeing all but one because that's where this random guy plays tiger woods pga xbox games and scrolls social media all day between cigarettes! even when we went over there to give the final push on getting everything clean and all his stuff packed, he and i were supposed to pack all his kitchen stuff and i did 80% of the work because every 10-15 minutes he needed to step outside for 20 minutes for a goddamn cigarette
he has just been so petty to my aunt and keeps making vague references to "getting yelled at" because my aunt told him what the timeline was for selling the house (and it's not like this was sprung on him all of a sudden, grandma passed in december and we were making progress on clearing out the house and getting finances in order for about six months before it went on the market and sold in less than 2 weeks) and because she advised him to maybe throw out some stuff instead of keeping it. this dude hung onto an ELECTRIC HEDGE TRIMMER because he has this fantasy about buying a house (again, has not worked in at least 10-15 years, is not willing to work) with the payout he gets from the estate. the area he's looking in does have affordable rates, but no way in hell is he going to have enough from the estate payout for a down payment (don't forget grandma had 13 grandkids who are also included in the estate payout), nor do i think he has the finances to pay a mortgage or maintain a house (and to that second point, he also lacks the ability and the motivation). not after settling the few debts grandma had (not very much but still a couple of thousand dollars from old credit cards she'd forgotten about, the woman was 93 when she passed you can't really blame her) and paying for funeral costs
he finally moved into an apartment yesterday, and he couldn't get that right either. foolishly we trusted that he could coordinate having movers on-site to haul his furniture up to the second floor, only to find out morning-of that he has no idea whether the movers will be there or not and he can't check his email to see if there's any confirmation because he didn't set up his email on the smartphone we got him and couldn't remember his password, and on top of that his computer was already packed away so he couldn't get on there to find out. so of course there's no movers when they arrive, and my poor 65 year old dad had to do most of the work (thank god the landlord's grandson was home and willing to help)
at least my dad gets to lie on the couch today and rest, but he still works a very physically demanding job where he's a very important employee so he doesn't get to recuperate long before he's back in the field tomorrow.
