Publix stole $7 from me in the most convoluted way possible.
I was buying groceries the other day, and cereal was ridiculously expensive, $7 per box, but it was listed as buy one get one. $3.50 per box sounded slightly more reasonable, so I got two. When I went to self-checkout the laser wasn't working properly; it took three or four waves per item to get anything to scan. In my haste I accidentally scanned the cereal three times instead of two, and it turns out it WASN'T bogo, so they wanted $21 for three boxes of sugar. Well, fuck that!
I asked the cashier attendant to remove the mistaken third box and to check the cereal aisle for me because I distinctly remember there being a bogo sign. Publix has a policy to honor whatever the aisle says (maybe the sale ended and they forgot to remove the tag; it's their fault, not the customer's). Anyway, I stand around for two minutes while he sends a manager to go check because he can't leave his post as self-checkout attendant. When the manager finally returns he says that technically the cereal isn't bogo, but the sign was deliberately confusing (the bogo was for the smaller boxes, but the sign was placed in front of the bigger ones), so he decided to honor it for me and remove another of the boxes from my total.
I pay my bill and I leave, only to get a notification from my bank that I am overdrawn by a couple bucks. Even with the bogo I had accidentally spent more than planned, so I had to swallow my pride and immediately go back inside to return some items. Most of what I got was for full meals while my sugary cereal was more of a treat, and the overage was less than $7, so I go to customer service and return both boxes. Now, on paper (literally) it says I scanned three boxes, an employee voided one and then changed the price of another to $0; I walked out of the store with two boxes, I returned two boxes, so it should be open and shut, but that third box threw their system out of whack. I explain what happened, and they issue the refund, but it 100% looks like I am running some kind of scam, and two days later my bank says the $7 is pending because Publix has flagged it and it needs further approval.
They can check the cameras if they want, I left with two and came back with two, I didn't steal a box for $7 profit, it was a scanning mistake on my part followed by a pricing mistake on theirs with the false bogo. Either way, I'm still overdrawn and I had to ask my sister to venmo me some money to get out of the red. Do you know how embarrassing it is to be so poor you have to return fucking breakfast cereal? And to have a trump-supporting corporate entity withhold the refund out of spite as punishment for being poor? This country needs to burn to the fucking ground...

UNPOPULAR OPINION
If a company makes a game free after you paid to buy it, they should refund everyone who paid for it.
After all, youre already switching to siphon with DLC's and battle passes or a ridiculous gambling system. The least you could do is give me back the $30-60 i paid to get it.

How to Request a Refund for Helldivers 2:
Contact Steam first. Tell them it is a gameplay issue, a misleading product, a faulty product. Request a refund. If they decline, try the Playstation one second. Make sure you speak to an actual person, and get a human response from someone who declines your request. DO NOT make a Playstation account. DO NOT let them refund you in 'playstation/store credit'. Demand your money back. If all else fails, with proof of being declined by both Steam and Playstation, contact your bank and ask for a refund.
Steam Support
Launch/Log In Steam
Go to Help
Steam Support
Purchases
I have charges from Steam that I didn't make
Contact Steam Support
Fill out Form and Request refund for Helldivers 2.
Playstation Support
Speak to PlayStation Online Assistant
Put your name (or a fake one), DO NOT make/use a Playstation Account for "Store Credits".
Request to speak to customer service
Demand a refund.
Contact Your Bank
Tell your bank.
Provide proof of Steam/Playstation's declines if needed
Inform/remind them that the companies sold you a misleading/faulty product
Request your money back.
Additional Info
Expect to be declined multiple times. Expect there to be inconvenience. Expect them to make it difficult for you to get your money back. They do this on purpose because they want you to give up. Do not give up, good luck!
(I will be editing this post as more info/ways to get your refund back is found! Any/all advice welcome!)
EDIT 1 (11:50pm PST 5/4/2024):
Some people have allegedly been getting refunds through Steam! The Helldiver 2 subreddit community and Steam Support discussions have mentioned requesting a refund again, as usually the first one is automatically denied. Try again!!

HELLDIVERS 2 STEAM REFUND REQUEST TIPS (how to maybe possibly get your money back)
IF YOU ARE REFUNDING, USE THIS AS YOUR REFUND MESSAGE: "The developers have announced that they will restrict my access to the game unless I sign up for and use a third-party service and account. This requirement was obfuscated at release and waived for three months, before it was announced as a REQUIREMENT to continue to play the game at all."
Use the reasoning "The multiplayer doesn't work" because, well, it won't, unless you make a PSN account (and give Sony those juicy active player numbers that they want so badly).
This request message was built off of some recommendations from folks on the Helldivers discord, as well as PirateSoftware's own refund request (source at 27:19), as he has WAY more industry knowledge than I do. As I understand it, the specific mention of THIRD PARTY SIGNUP is a HUGE red flag for Steam, they take it really seriously, especially since the requirement was obfuscated and waived for months so that we all missed our refund windows.
Even in worst case scenarios where we dont get money back, it'll still send a message to Valve and Arrowhead that Sony's bs is not okay.
And to think, we thought the bugs and bots were bad enough...
