All the People* who Wield Umbrellas in Jane Austen's novels and What it Means:
Dr. Grant, kindly asking Fanny to step into the house during a rainstorm
Fanny, having been sent into the village on some errand by her aunt Norris, was overtaken by a heavy shower close to the Parsonage; and being descried from one of the windows endeavouring to find shelter under the branches and lingering leaves of an oak just beyond their premises, was forced, though not without some modest reluctance on her part, to come in. A civil servant she had withstood; but when Dr. Grant himself went out with an umbrella, there was nothing to be done but to be very much ashamed, and to get into the house as fast as possible, Mansfield Park
Mr. Weston, kindly (perhaps with motive), getting an umbrella for Miss Taylor and Emma:
Robert Martin, most likely was holding an umbrella for his sisters, then kindly warns Harriet that a path is washed out:
“Ever since the day—about four years ago—that Miss Taylor and I met with him in Broadway Lane, when, because it began to drizzle, he darted away with so much gallantry, and borrowed two umbrellas for us from Farmer Mitchell’s, I made up my mind on the subject. I planned the match from that hour; and when such success has blessed me in this instance, dear papa, you cannot think that I shall leave off match-making.” Emma
Frank Churchill, trying to protect his secret fiancé from the rain:
“And so, there she had set, without an idea of any thing in the world, full ten minutes, perhaps—when, all of a sudden, who should come in—to be sure it was so very odd!—but they always dealt at Ford’s—who should come in, but Elizabeth Martin and her brother!—Dear Miss Woodhouse! only think. I thought I should have fainted. I did not know what to do. I was sitting near the door—Elizabeth saw me directly; but he did not; he was busy with the umbrella. I am sure she saw me, but she looked away directly, and took no notice; and they both went to quite the farther end of the shop; and I kept sitting near the door! Emma
Admiral Croft, making sure Anne can grab an umbrella:
In a few minutes the carriage returned.—Somebody talked of rain.—“I will see that there are umbrellas, sir,” said Frank to his father: “Miss Bates must not be forgotten:” and away he went. Emma
And lastly, Captain Wentworth, offering an umbrella to Anne (Mr. Elliot does not have one, we shall note):
“Well, whenever it suits you. You can slip in from the shrubbery at any time; and there you will find we keep our umbrellas hanging up by that door. A good place is not it? But,” (checking himself), “you will not think it a good place, for yours were always kept in the butler’s room. Ay, so it always is, I believe. One man’s ways may be as good as another’s, but we all like our own best. And so you must judge for yourself, whether it would be better for you to go about the house or not.” Persuasion
Umbrellas in Jane Austen are symbols of love and kindness. Always wielded by men. They provide shelter. A good man carries an umbrella, but not for himself.
After a moment’s pause he said: “Though I came only yesterday, I have equipped myself properly for Bath already, you see,” (pointing to a new umbrella); “I wish you would make use of it, if you are determined to walk; though I think it would be more prudent to let me get you a chair.” Persuasion
*Northanger Abbey's counting of umbrellas to see if it is raining does not count, as the people are unknown

Anew (Sebastian Sallow x Reader/MC)
Tumblr media
Characters: Sebastian Sallow x Reader/MC
Type: some angst, some fluff, hurt/comfort, can be read as platonic or romantic

Warnings: mentions of death, spoilers
A/N:
First time writing for Seb, so please be gentle - I'm still trying to understand the inner workings of his personality 🫣
English is not my first language
Slightly altered timeline, taking place after Lodgok's Loyalty, but before In the Shadow of the Mine
Reader will be referred to as MC
Also, some spoilers, so careful if you haven't played the game or haven't reached the aforementioned quests
Tumblr media
"Sebastian? What are you doing here? I thought you were in the library." Ominis said as he entered the Slytherin boys' dorm room, which was currently devoid of other students who were enjoying their day outside or in Hogsmeade. His wand's tip was glowing red and pulsing as he sensed his best friend while he was sitting on his bed, disinterestedly flipping through a book.
"Didn't feel like it today." The tone of his voice sounded clipped - annoyed and also sulky. Ominis knew right away that he was upset and got ready to ask the big question.
"Where's MC? I thought you were meeting up today for a trip to Hogsmeade?" He questioned, wanting to know if you had anything to do with his friend's mood drop. Most probably. If it wasn't about classes, Anne, Solomon or Leander, it was you. Maybe he couldn't see, but he knew Sebastian was frowning.
"Don't know. We haven't spoken since last week." Sebastian huffed, flipping to another page. He'd sent you an owl two days before, in which he shortly apologised before asking you to accompany him in finding more clues about the relic. But you hadn't answered and had been actively avoiding him. So much so that he hadn't seen you at all. Not even in the classes you shared.
Ominis internally sighed, getting mentally prepared. "Did something happen between you two?" Sebastian was quiet for a few seconds before he replied. He couldn't lie to Ominis about this. Mostly because he wanted to hear some reassurance from his childhood friend.
"She befriended a goblin, Ominis. A goblin! Said he was friendly and would help her." Sebastian almost hissed out as he slammed his open book against his knees. "It's almost as if she didn't even remember what I told her, about Anne being cursed by them!" Ominis shook his head. He knew you'd befriend pretty much anyone. The fact that you managed to befriend Imelda and even goblins was proof of that.
"Sebastian... Have you even heard the rumours about MC up until now?" Ominis asked, looking in the general direction of his best friend. Sebastian looked at him, noticing the slight pull of his eyebrows.
"Depends on the rumours." He answered quietly. Plenty of people talked, whether in Hogwarts, Hogsmeade or even beyond. So it wasn't as if he knew nothing about your endeavours. Last he'd heard, you were helping Poppy with some poachers to rescue some beasts, which was nothing new, as you'd dealt with Ashwinders by yourself before.
"She's been running around, helping indiscriminately, might I add. Whether they were wizard, goblin or beast. She's been getting rid of poachers and rescuing beasts, like a Hippogriff. Did you know that she apparently got rid of a spider infestation in Aranshire? Or that she got rid of a huge Dugbog that would periodically torment those in Pitt-Upon-Ford?" Sebastian was quiet, imagining you during your little adventures outside the safety of Hogwarts. He knew you were brave, but not even he'd heard about everything or thought about how true certain rumours were. After all, he'd usually hear everything in detail from you as soon as you'd return and be able to meet. "Even a few days ago she rescued Natsai and another man who'd been kidnapped by Theophilus Harlow. Apparently, he's been knocked down a few pegs by their meddling and now he's on the hunt for them."
At the mention of the Rookwood's right-hand man's name, Sebastian stiffened a little. The first encounter with him and Rookwood at the Three Broomsticks a few months prior reminded him of how ready the two men were to kidnap you in the middle of the day, if not for Sirona and the other patrons. He felt both proud and scared at the thought of you going against Harlow, let alone Rookwood and surely even Ranrok.
From his lack of words, Ominis sighed and sat down next to him. "I know what you think about goblins and how you feel about them. But I trust MC's judgement of character. If she thinks that goblin is going to help her, then I trust she's right. She's yet to prove me or you wrong." He finished talking and patted Sebastian's knee amicably before getting up and going to his bed.
"Wait, Ominis! Where is she now?" He asked as he got up, leaving the book behind. His friend turned around with a thoughtful purse of his lips.
"Truthfully, I don't know. I haven't talked or heard from her for the past few days, actually. Maybe she's out?" With a nod and a quick thanks, Sebastian left the bedroom and started searching.
He looked around in the usual places around Hogwarts - all the classrooms, hidden rooms he knew about, outside as well... But he couldn't find you anywhere. He even spoke with a few other classmates who had lingered, but no one had seen you either. Apparently, you had been missing the classes he didn't share with you as well. He walked outside, farther than the Quidditch pitch, going to the pens near the Magical Beasts class, hoping you were there. But he only found Poppy, who was tending to a few Kneazels.
"Poppy!" At the sound of her name being called, the Hufflepuff turned around with a curious expression on her face before she smiled, albeit a bit forcefully.
"Oh, hi...Sebastian."
"Hey! Have you seen MC?" He asked, a tint of desperation coating his voice as it came out a tad winded from all the running. Poppy blinked before looking away. She knew about your fight with Sebastian, but only vaguely, as you'd only told her that he'd insulted you. She chewed on her lower lip thoughtfully. Seeing this, Sebastian took another step closer, his brow eyes wide and pleading. "Poppy... Please. It's important." She looked up at him before she sighed - she hoped you wouldn't be too cross with her for telling him.
"She's in the Room of Requirement, on the seventh floor corridor opposite of the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy. Just...think about what you need and the Room will listen." She smiled and stepped back before giving him a thumbs up the moment he nodded in understanding. "Good luck!" Then she left, a hopeful look on her face.
Sebastian sighed and hurried back to the castle, going to the seventh floor as instructed. He found the tapestry and turned towards the opposite, empty and unassuming wall.
"Okay... This shouldn't be too hard..." He mumbled, wringing his hands for a moment before he closed his eyes. He wished he could find you and the Room, his mind thinking about needing to apologise and make sure you were okay. What if you didn't want to see him and were done with him and his goal of saving Anne? Or his attraction to danger as if he was a moth to a flame? Or worse- what if you'd been hurt? What if you weren't even there?
He opened his eyes at the sound of stone moving, seeing a massive door appear that made him choke on his breath in surprise. It was barely complete before Sebastian found himself coming closer, the doors opening by themselves, showing a dark hallway that opened up to light so bright it almost made his eyes water.
He was instantly hit by a pleasant breeze of fresh air and warm sunlight that hit his freckled face, his footsteps quiet as he stepped further in. His wide eyes took in everything: the station for making potions, a table with pots of different plants, a desk, tables and chairs...and then he looked up, a quiet 'wow' escaping his lips. The ceiling was pretty much non-existent, with bright and warm sunlight streaming through the leafy branches stretching against the visible blue sky. There were books flying around and specks of dust here and there left behind by them. It made no sense, but at the same time, this was Hogwarts. And it apparently still amazed him, even now.
His eyes went back down again. He noticed a few more open doors and another hallway right in front of him. He quickly checked the other room at the end of the hallway, noticing a big and comfortable looking bed in the corner of the room, along with a few mannequins, a large mirror and multiple bookcases full of books and trinkets. But you weren't there, so he went back to the main room.
There was one huge set of open doors on one side of the room and three more upstairs, all of them giving off different vibes. He could hear birds from the bottom one and the biggest one upstairs, crickets from another and seagulls from the last one.
Sebastian went through the first set of doors, finding a large, grassy and sunset-coloured meadow stretching on and on. He stopped and stared at the Nifflers, a poffle of Puffskeins, Kneazles and Hippogriffs populating the world and enjoying the freedom and movement. A few approached him and while he was a little hesitant, he petted a few Puffskeins and Kneazles. He couldn't help smiling at the feeling of Puffskeins surrounding him, their big eyes staring up at him curiously, not that the other beats were acting any differently.
"I'm sorry, I don't have any treats on me..." He mumbled apologetically, watching a baby Niffler grab onto his pants and attempt to scale his leg in an attempt to find something shiny. Sebastian laughed shortly, picking him up carefully as he glanced at his parents looking at him warily. "Sorry, little one. I don't have anything valuable for you." The little Niffler sniffed him before making a happy noise when he was petted a few times, then put back on the ground near his parents. With a sigh, he left the room, checking the other ones.
The ones upstairs consisted of a huge sandy beach that was mostly empty, except for a gazebo on the sand, a set of chairs around a table and a windchime, while the other one was a swampy area where there were multiple Mooncalves, Thestrals and Giant Purple Toads. A baby Thestral approached him and let himself be petted by Sebastian, the latter feeling the smooth, leathery skin and its sounds of obvious happiness at receiving pets.
There was only one more room left and Sebastian hoped you were in there. He slowly stepped through, seeing the ruins of a castle and multiple birds flying about: Jobberknolls, Fwoopers and even Diricawls milling about.
But what caught his attention was you. You were on the cliff, facing away from him, seemingly crouched over something. He slowly approached and started climbing his way to you, his quiet footsteps alerting you and making you look up in surprise, hand ready to grab your wand. But you only sighed when you saw it was Sebastian, turning back to the task at hand and ignoring him. Sebastian would be lying if he said the blatant rejection didn't hurt him. But he decided to not dwell on it and come even closer instead, curious to know what you were doing.
There was a comfortable looking box with a soft blanket in it and...a phoenix. His chocolate-brown eyes widened and he was ready to ask about the rare bird, but they immediately flew to you when he heard a sniffle. Your hand gently went over the bird's head, cooing quietly when it looked up at you and shivered as it seemed to have shrunk in on itself. It was obvious the bird was sick or possibly dying and you were suffering because of it.
The phoenix suddenly looked at him and Sebastian felt compelled to sit down next to you, his eyes staring into the bird's wise ones. Slowly, his hand made contact with the soft feathers on its back and the bird relaxed further into the box. You two spent a few quiet moments like this, pretty much ignoring each other, but also bonding over this event. Sebastian saw the phoenix stretch its neck and both of your hands left its body slowly.
But suddenly, it started glowing a fiery orange while it spread its wings. Sebastian instinctively pulled you into his arms and backwards as soon as he saw the first spark, both of you watching the bird erupt in flames, leaving only a pile of ashes behind. Seeing another being dying in front of you so soon made your eyes water until the tears finally broke free and slid down your cheeks. He felt panic surge through his mind and body as he stiffened up at the sight of you crying for the first time since he'd met you, but he tried to keep his wits about him.
You sobbed as you held onto one of Sebastian's forearms around you while he cradled and shushed you gently, his eyes watching the pile of ash in shock. He'd read about phoenix birds, but actually watching one die was something completely new and saddening, if not somehow beautiful. And the knowledge that phoenix birds were reborn from their ashes completely escaped your minds in your current mental states.
Sebastian saw movement and whispered your name softly, making you hiccup and look up at him before you followed his line of sight. Both of you watched as the ash moved bit by bit until a small, frail bird came out with a little mound of ash on top of its head. It barely opened its eyes blearily and croaked softly.
"Merlin's beard..." You whispered, quickly wiping your eyes before you looked from the phoenix back to your friend and partner in crime with a hopeful smile. Sebastian couldn't help but smile. He reluctantly let you go, but stayed close and moved along with you to stand in front of the box again.
"Hi, baby... Welcome back..." You mumbled tearfully, cleaning the ash off the baby phoenix carefully before picking it up and opening your coat enough to tuck it inside for warmth. The phoenix only snuggled better into it, making the both of you smile. It was quiet for a few seconds before Sebastian finally gathered the courage to say something. Maybe it wasn't the best moment, but he knew he had to apologise and clear things up. He cleared his throat as quietly as possible, looking almost anywhere but at you.
"MC, I... I'm sorry...for calling you ignorant. And for not trusting your judgement. I let my emotions get the better of me. And I know it's not an excuse. But I trust you and promise to listen to you better." He finished speaking and finally exhaled, looking at the ground - in obvious shame at being in the wrong and assuming the worst about your goblin friend -, then at the phoenix in your arms. He avoided your eyes, wondering if it was too late already. Sebastian heard you sigh before chancing a look at you. You looked a lot more tired than he'd first thought you were. What had happened to you since your argument the previous week?
"Just...don't do it again. Please, Seb. I care about you, Ominis and Anne. You know that I want her to get well. But I don't want to lose you to the Dark Arts in the process." He couldn't promise you that, but he could try to tone down his usage of Dark Magic and his eagerness to learn more about it, so he only nodded. Then it was silent again. "What have you been up to these past few days?" He asked you quietly and saw you frown, immediately growing both curious and regretful of asking. Your lower lip and chin quivered and he wondered what had happened. "MC?"
You sniffled once and sat up straight before looking down at the little phoenix bird nestled in your coat. "Let's get down from here first." He nodded at your words and got up, ready to help you, but you were already up. He picked up the box where the phoenix had been in and dumped the ashes, cleaning it as best as he could, watching the breeze carry them away before following you down.
You two left the vivarium and entered the second room where the bed was. Sebastian noticed then a comfortable-looking couch, with a knee-high table right in front of it, and you two sat down on the soft cushions. Sebastian placed the box on the table before turning a little so he could face you, obviously eager to listen and even talk to you. It was silent for a few seconds, save for the happy little noises the phoenix was making as it continued sleeping pressed against your side. He saw and heard the moment you took a breath in preparation.
"Lodgok, the goblin who was helping me... He's dead. ... Killed by Ranrok. His own brother!" You almost hissed as you felt tears gather in your eyes again, this time out of a mix of anger, sadness and frustration. "He was just coming to bring me Bragbor's journals so he could end this before it got even worse. And I... I was too late to find him in the mine. Rookwood found him first." Sebastian felt conflicted. On one hand, he was a goblin. But...was he really a bad goblin? As bad as the others he'd encountered and who were on Ranrok's side?
Sebastian wasn't stupid. Just as there were Dark Wizards, the same applied to goblins. As hard as it was to believe, he knew there were good ones too, however few. He wanted to feel happy about another goblin dying, as some sort of revenge for Anne. But seeing how distressed you were made him realise that he may have been wrong in feeling so much glee about someone's death - even if it was a goblin.
"It's all my fault... I could've saved him..."
When he heard the way your voice cracked, he shook his head and pulled you so you could rest against him, mindful of the phoenix. His cheek pressed against the top of your head as he listened to you sobbing quietly while his eyes were glued to an old portrait of a witch and a goblin who were laughing at a table while drinking tea in front of a fire place in an obviously elegant room. Sebastian had never seen such a painting, but it made his mind reel and his heart hurt at your obvious anguish.
"You did everything you could. And I'm sure Lodgok knew this as well. It's not your fault, Y/N. Trust me." He went silent afterwards, feeling the way you trembled slightly whenever you tried to rein in your sobs.
A while later, you stopped crying, only sniffling every now and then. Sebastian slowly let go of you and gently took the sleeping phoenix from you, setting it in its box before taking your hands in his and pulling you up. Your eyes were puffy and your nose red from all the crying, but Sebastian only smiled at you, wiping your tear tracks tenderly. You didn't say a thing, opting to follow him as soon as you felt him pull you with him. He led you to the bed in the corner and sat you down before crouching in front of you.
"I want you to take a nap. Okay? You look exhausted. Then we can go to Hogsmeade, grab some butterbeer and then raid Honeydukes. My treat." You smiled a bit before you took off your shoes and got under the covers with his help. Sebastian then sat down on the empty space on the bed, both of you looking at one another in thought. "I'll be here when you wake up. I'll just take the phoenix back." You nodded and grabbed his hand. He squeezed it with a smile before lifting it and pressing a kiss to your knuckles, watching in satisfaction as your ears turned a lovely shade of pink.
"Close your eyes and get some rest, darling." You obeyed and closed your eyes, exhaling and snuggling better into the comfortable bed. You were soon sleeping soundly, hinting at how worn out you actually were. Sebastian's hand lost its secure grip as he slowly let go, tucking you in and coming close enough to touch your face. He kissed your temple before whispering softly "You'll get better. And everything's going to be fine. You'll see." He heard you quietly and sleepily mumble in what he accepted as approval before he pulled back. He watched you for a few more seconds before getting up to take the phoenix back to its vivarium, planning on returning and reading by your bedside until you woke up.

Louis Tomlinson performs shirtless as fans rip $660 shirt off his body during concert
Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson is known to embrace the energy of his fans, but they ended up tearing his clothes to shreds in his latest Faith in the Future gig
By Alex West
Louis Tomlinson wrapped up the North American leg of his Faith in the Future tour by diving into the crowd at his New York City show.
The scenes caused fans to flock towards him and proceeded to tear off his tank top. Videos have since gone viral showing Louis eager to embrace the energy of the crowd. Even while his shirt was being mauled off of him, he continued performing his closing song, Silver Tongues, and smiled through the entire endeavour. When he finally stepped away and noticed that the shirt had been reduced to a scrap of fabric, he laughed and threw it into the crowd, with one fan lucky enough to catch it.
Security can be seen trying to protect Louis during the incident, but he didn't seem to back down from the fans' enthusiasm. A video even shows one security guard laughing and smiling, too. Louis ended up sauntering off stage bare chested as the tour draws to a close and fans head home.
According to the fan who took the black tank top home, it was a size small. They also said that it smells like Old Spice's Fiji deodorant. Fans joked that the demand for the deodorant would skyrocket. One fan wrote: "omw to cvs to get allergy medicine and old spice fiji."
Another fan believes that they've found the shirt he was wearing online. They think it is $660 Tom Ford "sleeveless jersey vest". This isn't Louis's first time getting up close and personal with the audience. At nearly every show on tour, Louis does the same thing. He doesn't seem to mind the fans pulling on his clothes or reaching out to him. In fact, he's notorious for praising and loving his fans.
Louis previously tweeted: "I’ve said it a million times but I’m lucky enough to have the greatest fans an artist could wish for."
The Faith in the Future tour started in the end of May and spanned across 39 tour dates. He'll also be heading to Europe next month to continue the tour and possibly the tradition of jumping into the crowd. The tour is in support of his sophomore album with the same name.
For the United States, Louis nearly quadrupled his venue sizes since last tour. Louis played at the Hammerstein Ballroom (capacity 3,500) in New York City previously. For the Faith in the Future tour, he played at Forest Hills Stadium with a capacity of 13,000.

Been thinking about gravity falls nonstop lately so I decided to put myself in there (not all the character information is accurate to me I just thought it was cool) :3
stuff is under the cut ⬇️
ALICE O’KEAT
My gravity falls self insert :3
• 12 years old
• Any pronouns
• 160cm / 5’2
She has one older sister, who’s in college. She has two mums. Her family lives out in the woods, and she rides her bike into town every day.
She ‘works’ at the mystery shack. She explores out in the woods, and some of the stuff she finds she brings back to Stan so he can put in in an exhibit. He gives her $1.50 for each thing she brings him.
One day while she was really little and out exploring, she found a magic bag that has infinite space inside it. She can put anything into the bag, even living animals! It’s filled with a hoard of cool things :)
She LOVES animals! She has a bird, a possum and a cat that all live in her bag, and a lot of other critters that rotate in and out.
She’s very good at running and climbing trees! She know her way through the forest really well, and has a lot of secret places she hangs out in.
She’s best friends with Mabel :3! They hang out all the time, and have a lot of sleepovers. They often wander the woods together, and they like to scrapbook and play make-believe together.
She helps Dipper with his endeavours too, although often they bicker. Alice has a crush on Wendy too, so they have a kind of rivalry.
She thinks Wendy is super cool :). When she brings stuff back for Stan, she stops to talk to Wendy, and often gives her sticks and rocks and things.
She helps Soos with chores around the shack. She really likes Melody. Often they all cook dinner together.
Stan likes her work ethic. He teaches her a lot of stuff about how to scam people, and thinks of her as kind of a crime apprentice.
She doesn’t trust Ford at all, at least initially, but he starts asking her to bring back certain specimens to study and they form a sort of truce.
Tumblr media
- cat ear headband
- gloves she knitted
- bike shorts under skirt
- keeps everything she finds in her bag (it’s magical and has infinite space)
- very clumsy
- gumboots!
(For episodes she’s in - think like a Soos amount. She appears at least once in every episode, and she has episodes that are mainly focused on her, as well as arcs, development, and relationships with other characters, but she’s not a main character as much as, say, dipper is.)
Congrats if you read this far :3 lmk if you have a self insert for gravity falls and I can draw our characters hanging out :)
+ bonus Alice as a Little Silly :3

Monday 11th November 2024
It's moving on day again today, this time to the Barkly Homestead. Our route has now left the Stuart Highway, and we are heading East towards the coast, but these are small steps. But we are jumping ahead. Just before the junction of Stuart and Barkly is a remnant from the past, one of the eleven telegraph repeater stations. We had planned to visit this place today because it was on our route, so on the advice of the man in the tourist information centre, who said it was open everyday, we expected no impediments to this rudimentary plan. How wrong can one be? It transpired that the site would be open but not the buildings. But that's not a problem because our caravan site has a key said the reception lady. You can't leave the place open, it would be trashed, she said. Just sign here and place a deposit of $20 cash. Well, we don't have cash, we said. Sorry, no key then. So we had to go into town to the post office and draw cash. Then, back to the site and collect key. Go visit Repeater Station 10 km away, return key 10 km, collect twenty bucks, all done! Simple.
The Telegraph Line was completed in 1872, a remarkable feat considering Stuart had only surveyed the route ten years previously. Some 1800 miles in length, 36,000 poles and an awful lot of wire. The project was conceived and planned by Sir Charles Todd, who was by training a mathematician and astronomer working initially at the Greenwich Observatory, but needed telegraph to communicate between observatories. So he was inspired by the concept of linking Southern Australia to India and on to England. The repeater stations received a morse message, then it would be relayed to the next, and so on until it reached London. It would take in the region of 7 hours to send and receive a telegraph message in London from Australia, which made a huge improvement on the previous record of some three months on a package ship.
The buildings had long ago been stripped of any technology, but it was easy to imagine how they were used, from the kitchen and dining areas to the telegraph room, bedroom and storage areas. When the centre finally closed in the 1930s due to technology changes, and then sold in 1951, finding one room being used as a butchers shop! All very interesting and good to see the fruition to our Mr Stuart's endeavours and the works of the ingenious Sir Charles Todd.
Before finally leaving Tennant Creek, we ticked the last box in the Lonely Planet Guide and visited the oldest Catholic Church in the region. Built in 1937 and looking remarkably pretty despite its corrugated iron components and, more importantly, appeared like it was well used. Then, driving briefly back up the Stuart to the intersection with the Barkly Highway, we passed over the Tennant Creek, which gave its name to the town. It is still possible to see the old crossing over the Creek which is a reminder of what the old, unsealed pre-1943 road would have been like where traffic had to go virtually down to the level of the water to cross over. Very much like a ford at home.
Our journey to Barkly Homestead was just 212 km, so we had arrived by 3.30. The decision to stop here for a couple of nights was made out of necessity; it was too far in one journey to make it to our next location. However, there was no choice in the matter of location as this is the only accommodation along this route. A comly little place, home to tourists, tradies, and truckies alike. Very limited in the self-catering department, but we shall cope.
We have really enjoyed our time at Tennant Creek despite all the bad press it had from pretty much all those we spoke to. As a town, it clearly has its problems. There weren't that many people in the post office, but two of them had ASBO tags on their ankles. But a lot of investment has been made in this clean town: large outdoor swimming pool, new library, bowling club, hospital, mens and womens clinics. Let's hope things improve for these people.

Why would Max go to Mercedes when he has set up team redline with Redbull? I know it isnt the racing team but it still part of the brand
So long as I am now out there with my crack theories based on nothing but vibes…
I think this is a reason why Max would never move to Merc, and THE reason his “camp” is siding with the Austrians. Red Bull GmbH is Verstappen.com and Team Redline’s big investor (it’s public record I’m pretty sure they are stakeholders in team Redline as at last year), not RBR. That support may well be set to increase when he leaves F1 and fully dedicates his time to the project…
Not to mention, RB apparently had the engine deal with Porsche pretty much signed until Horner vetoed it and brought Ford in instead. We know that Team Redline was testing Porsche GT cars, wrapped in the Redline livery, over the winter. Could all be a coincidence but is it a wild suggestion that the Austrians have a personal connection with Porsche/Volkswagen and they were livid when the deal didn’t go through? Idk.
My point is, Max’s future plans seem way more aligned with the Austrian faction than “Red Bull Racing”. It’s possible that while Max is staying neutral to do his day job, Jos is playing patsy for the Austrians and making sure they know that team Verstappen stands with them for the long haul.
All this to say…why on earth would he go to Merc, where none of this support system exists and where he would have to build new bridges for future endeavours? I personally don’t see it.

I asked my mother to buy me a lobster to keep as a pet, I convinced her I was firmly read up on the proper care and enrichment methods to keep it healthy and stimulated. Mother is swayed easily by my argument, she is prone to indulging my habits. With father out of the picture, she has spoiled me rotten my entire life.
We go to the local grocery store in town and walk through the aisles until we reach the fishery. I pick out the one in the right corner furthest away from me, sitting all alone, avoided by the others. I sense a kinship between me and this one before I even take it out of the store. The predicament with my family has left me isolated by my peers. The fishmonger scoops it up and places it in a styrofoam crate containing water. He tells me to enjoy my meal tonight, I smile.
We bring the lobster home, on the ride I daydream of caring for her, for I have found out she has eggs. I was too impatient to wait until we returned to inspect her. When we arrive at the house I have already decided on a name, I tell mother I will call her Boudicca and she will be my sister. My mother smiles wearily and tells me to hurry along now. I pour her into my aquarium and carry it around, introducing Boudicca into her new home.
For dinner we eat macaroni and cheese with hot dogs and I drop a few hot dog bits in the water for our new member of the family. Mother has already lost interest in the endeavour to initiate her into our circle and she seems to be gazing vacantly through the window. Nevertheless, I finish the macaroni and cheese and prepare for bed. I plan to fall asleep sitting at my desk staring intently into her shiny black eyes to let her know she is loved.
The next morning, I suspect mother has played one of her famed pranks on me, for I peer back at my own face. It takes a moment for me to register my eyes are still closed. I am gripped by cold fear and I begin to feel nauseous, I make an attempt to move. Unfamiliar muscle memory activates and I begin scuttling around on the gravel and snapping my claws, I am left with a sense of powerlessness, trapped in my own sister's body. Not long after, mother enters the room and attempts to wake me up, but I do not so much as stir. Foam drips down my mouth and she drops the cup of tea she was holding in her hand. Not wanting to provoke my disappointment if I were to wake up and discover my sister were missing, she brings me along in a smaller, carry-size aquarium. I try to inform her that things are terribly wrong but she doesn't understand.
We arrive at the hospital and my body is immediately given a room. The doctors tell mother that her daughter is comatose and likely to never wake up. I suspect the burden of a human body was too much for my sweet sister, and she collapsed under the pressure. Three months pass and mother begins visiting Boudicca less and less. Although every time she does she sobs silently by the bedside. My feeble attempts at communication are yet again misunderstood as a desire for food or something similarly animalistic. She eventually acquiesces to the idea of pulling the plug. I watch as my heartrate flatlines and dear, precious Boudicca is gone forever, like dish water down the drain.
My mother, grieving and unwilling to communicate with a lobster, decides it is for the best that I am let free into the vastness of the ocean. She drives our antique Ford Prefect to a beach in Dorset. She gently sets me out of the aquarium and onto the water's edge, facing away. Unwilling to move, I sit there and watch the waves crash against the cobbled ground. Unwilling soon becomes unable as I have been outside of the water for too long. Oxygen has stopped flowing to my brain.
Like my dear sister I am ferried away to the infinite blackness after brief and probing sensory explosions to do with matter and emotions and chemicals. Mother gets back into the car and drives off, My new crustacean body becomes a sensational curiousity to the children on the beach and simply more food for the gulls.

I'm repaying the favour, and asking about your OCs:
How well do the triplets get along with each of their siblings? Which sibling does each triplet get along with best? Do any of them feel that one of the others is 'the golden child'?
(as someone with a few siblings, I have to ask these questions)
Ah good questions! (From left to right: Nita, Nilam and Taka)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How well do the triplets get along with each of their siblings?
Generally, quite well. Though Taka resents Nita's authority (she claims to be the eldest, though only 13 minutes). Nita's more upright and inflexible attitude, as he mused in The Orion Journal, was enough to draw both him and Nilam insane. Taka is generally closer to Nilam and loves to plan pranks and heists with her, but he also confides his problems with Nita, acknowledging her as the most mature of the three.
Which sibling does each triplet get along with best?
As said earlier, Nita and Taka both felt close to Nilam. I quite think of Nilam to be the glue of the triplets, also mediating whatever conflicts the two might have (whether a disagreement over a certain discovery or a fact, or how to deal with a crisis).
For Nilam herself, it's a difficult question. But I say probably Nita (sorry Taka!). To Taka's credit, she likes mischief, the outdoors and adventuring, but I think she still shares similar troubles (like romance, clothes and makeup) with Nita, which I think overall is the more deciding factor.
Do any of them feel that one of the others is 'the golden child'?
I think this is an inevitable thought that crossed each of the triplets' minds. Like, each of them has their own distinctive talents and traits that set them out from each other. After all, all three still share the same desire to carry on their family's legacy and live up to it.
Nita is the most academically inclined of the three, and the most responsible. (Note I say academically inclined, since I felt all three are equally intelligent, but use their brains differently. Much like Hirsch said about the twins). She often gets praise from her teachers and parents for studying hard and her grades, and is the most sociable.
Nilam takes after her mother's musical talents (her seven fingers help a lot in her piano playing -- you should listen to her rendition of Chopin's Etude one day), and also her Aunt Mabel's artistic talents and creativity. And she has a slight tendency for violence, with a black belt in taekwondo and karate. She might not win a lot of academic awards, but a lot of other prizes and is very diligent in her endeavours.
And Taka... his deeper nature is quite like his father taking after his curiosity and adventure bug. And has a love for journalling and keeping trinkets. Dipper would sometimes unconsciously pay more attention to Taka, for he also has a curious birth condition of heterochromia. It's not a big secret that Taka would eventually take up his father's mantle, much like how Ford passed on the torch to Dipper.
So yeah, I guess they would be envious of each others' talents, and assume one is like the "most favoured".
Anyway, back to @mymanyfandomramblings: Among the three here, who do you think is the most a-dork-able? 😄
