Raccoon Tycoon PLAYTHROUGH

During my take 1 of my play through, I missed that buildings let you hold one more commodity. This is my take 2. After filming it, I looked it up on BoardGameGeek and learned about the rules errata (how the game ends), so instead of doing a third play through, I filmed the opening.

Jeux interdits (Forbidden Games) (1952)

After a little girl’s parents are killed fleeing Paris in World War 2 she is taken in by a young boy’s family where they attempt to mimic the religious rites of burial.

 The horrors of war is a common theme in films of the period, particularly from France, but this one is emphasised by the childish perspective on it and the idea that they may not know a world without conflict. The performance of the young boy was effective as he appeared able to express compassion in a way that felt genuine.

 Although the young girl is the central focus for much of the film, she’s easily overshadowed by the young boy and she is unfortunately very irritating quite frequently which prevents some identification. It’s hard to pick someone to route for earnestly because the main antagonist is circumstance, since no Germans are seen outside of planes, and the regular characters are flawed in petty ways and therefore aren’t too relatable.

 An amusing aspect of the subtext is that it exposes the duplicity and indoctrination crucial to religion but showing how the children can copy ritual and rhetoric without awareness of what they represent and the adults don’t often seem any wiser as to why they proceed with certain traditional aspects of life without question.

 If there were a genre such as a feel-bad movie then this would fit nicely in there since the main purpose is basically to provoke sad emotions with varying success. For this reason it’s necessarily depressing but at the same time the moral is rather vague since “war is bad” and “most people aren’t nice” don’t appear terribly inspired.

 3/10 -This one’s bad but it’s got some good in it, just there-

Things I’d love to experience in Horizon 3:

something about the recurring apple motif with caleb. you’re in the kitchen one afternoon; the open windows blowing in petals from the lavender plants in your garden. you’re slicing apples, one by one. that’s when you feel a familiar presence at your back, a familiar hand sliding the knife out of your grasp.

“let me take care of that,” he says, so easily, so familiarly. you want to protest; you don’t.

you stay standing, him behind you, his arms bracketing you, though not imposingly. never imposing — you don’t think so, at least. the smell of lavender bathes the sunlit room; a tender april afternoon.

you’re so focused on the little things — the brush of his hair against your cheek, the sight of his thumb smoothly peeling off the apple skin, the way you always prefer — you don’t notice him raising a piece until it’s pressing against your lips.

“open for your gege,” he says, and again, it’s so effortless of him. it comes second-naturedly, running off his tongue like rainwater.

you part your lips, bite the slice. the fruit sweetens your mouth better than any tart.

when you glance back at him, to thank him, to make a joke that you can feed yourself now, you catch sight instead of his violet eyes. lavender as the drifting petals; swirling with undercurrents you cannot begin to read. he only smiles knowingly, and continues feeding you the forbidden fruit.

This is a SLOW BURN ROMANCE. Optional explicit scenes will be offered at the end of the game, but it’ll be a while before we get to those. Enjoy the secret glances and deep yearning until then. ❤️

This is a standalone story set in the same world as Their Majesties’ Pleasure and Ink and Intrigue. You do not need to have played either of those games to enjoy this one.
