Musc Noir For Her by Narciso Rodriguez: One of the Best Day, Office, "My Skin But Better" Scents Out There
Tumblr media
Notes: Plum, Musk, Heliotrope, Suede
I recently purchased some samples of many different perfumes and also added a sample of Musc Noir For Her by NR, one of the very few Narciso perfumes I hadn't smelled, and yes, I like this one as well. It is a "my skin but better" fragrance, a "no-perfume" perfume. It is by far the most toned down from the For Her collection, it has a fruitness from the plum in the opening, but not juicy-like, but jam plum after some minutes it becomes very slightly flowery and vanilla-y with the slightest touch of almonds and after an hour or two it settles down in the most gorgeous skin-like powdery, creamy musk with suede. If someone wants a clean perfume without the soapy/deodorant/shampoo feeling you are here. I have seen people complain about longevity, but I don't think it's the issue here. I could still smell it for a solid 7 hours after I sprayed it on myself, BUT the sillage is very very intimate. VERY intimate, put your nose on my skin intimate, I could smell it on me, but people around me didn't give it any thought except if they were extremely close to the point of touching me. And this is where Noir comes into play I think. When I first sprayed it on I was so confused with the name Noir, which inclines you towards a darker/ night perfume and this ain't it, but it is an intercourse perfume for sure. It smells so good and so clean and skin-like creamy powder, but also sweet and slightly fruity, that if you are intimate with someone it will be detectable and they will enjoy it. It is Noir because it's perfect for personal night activities, not for a night out and the bottle/color I think supports that, white/rosy/nude, sheer, undetectable, and sleek. Loved it, my favorite from the For Her line, I am thinking of a bigger bottle. Not for people who want statement perfumes, perfumes that cling, and perfumes with sillage.

Perfumes for Vorkosigan Saga Characters
There are enough offhand references to fragrance in the Vorkosigan books that I strongly suspect Lois McMaster Bujold of being a perfume enthusiast. Also it's fun to imagine what the characters would wear.
Aral and Miles Vorkosigan
Miles is sometimes noted to wear a traditional masculine cologne, and he strikes me as the sort to wear the same thing his father does, as a sort of default grooming routine. You don't get much more traditional and correct than Chanel Monsieur, a mossy, bone-dry cologne/chypre hybrid.
Cordelia Vorkosigan
As the author-insert character, I think Cordelia enjoys perfume and knows exactly what she wants. I picture her in my beloved vintage Rochas Mystere, an earthy, outdoorsy, yet elegant chypre, with lots of brisk cypress and a rusty warm carnation heart to match her auburn hair.
Alys Vorpatril
Alys is a lady of a certain age with excellent taste, and therefore appreciates the formal, embellished perfection of Divine, a classical aldehydic floral weighted towards tuberose.
Ivan Vorpatril
Ivan has no taste of his own; once he got old enough to try dousing himself in body spray as a teen, his mother bought him a bottle of Divine L'Etre Aime Homme, a classically French masculine with a warm, smoky immortelle note, which sets off his darkly athletic good looks.
Elena Bothari-Jesek
Elena, I think, came to perfume later in life, finding a balm in a private feminine pleasure that wasn't part of her rigidly militaristic youth. She'd appreciate something delicate and poignant, like YSL Paris, a rose-violet powder-puff scent.
Bel Thorne
Bel was once mentioned wearing "floral perfume" to emphasize its feminine side. The adventurous Betan mercenary strikes me as a tuberose fan, and I imagine it wearing something like Frederic Malle Carnal Flower -- bold, sleek, streamlined, stylish but not too obscure. (Bel is, at heart, a bit of a normie.)
Elli Quinn
Space-station-born Elli is used to being in confined spaces with strangers, so she never wears perfume -- she even insists on unscented soaps. But she might have picked up a bottle of Etat Libre d'Orange Secretions Magnifiques as a vile practical joke (it smells, very realistically, like vomit.)
Taura
Taura's genetic enhancements gave her an exceptional sense of smell, and her lust for life and enthusiastic experiments in feminine presentation suggest she would absolutely try out perfume, but she's not analytical enough to get super into it. Somebody gives her Narciso Rodriguez For Her, a basic sweet floral musk, and she sticks with that.
Cavilo
The sociopathic mercenary Cavilo is described as wearing a very sharp green floral perfume that gives Miles allergies. I imagine this as Tom Ford Vert Boheme, a clean, contemporary take on the classic 1970s green florals, which smells exactly like a crisp green leaf before opening out into a ladylike magnolia.
Pel Navarr
The Cetagandans are perfume-lovers, so the aristocratic haut Pel would certainly wear perfume. Given her restrained, elevated tastes, I picture her in Parfums MDCI Le Cri De La Lumiere, a barely-there, sparkling-white iris-rose concoction of surpassing purity.
Lilly Durona
I have a soft spot for the Durona Group -- rogue ancap bioengineering clone family of my heart. In her artificially extended lifespan, the matriarch Lilly must have tried her hand at perfuming at some point, and probably invented a few new aromachemicals of her own. All the Durona women have flower names, and I imagine Lilly wears her namesake via something similar to Serge Lutens Un Lys, the most realistic, narcotic, honey-dripping lily scent ever.
Mark Vorkosigan
We know Mark's visual aesthetic tends towards the dark and gloomy, his gustatory tastes run towards the sweet and indulgent, and his erotic tastes are, um, both. There's only one right answer here and it's Bvlgari Black: fetishy black rubber up top, birthday-cake sweet vanilla below.
Enrique Borgos
Enrique is a nerd, and in his own way an aesthetic soul. I guarantee you he is interested in perfume, and he'd gravitate to the perfumer's perfumer, the chemist Christophe Laudamiel. He would be fascinated by the strange "neon-hologram" effect in The Zoo Spacewood.
Kareen Koudelka
Kareen's adventurous nature probably took her to try some perfumes on Beta Colony, and she'd invariably gravitate to warm, cozy ambers and gourmands. I can see her in the unpretentious burnt-caramel smell of Kerosene Broken Theories.
Ekaterin Vorsoisson
The reserved, introverted Ekaterin has "unerring taste". Which means, in an olfactory context, she's probably figured out that Liz Moores is one of the best living perfumers. I have Ekaterin pegged for an iris lover, so she wears Papillon Angelique, a delicate, rustic spring iris with subtle, velvety layers of texture.

Hi. I love your reply with all references of perfumes. It bring back a memory of an old post on your blog (many years ago) about how much you love them. What are your favorites if i may ask ?
Hi! Thank you very much! I remember that old post, though I cannot find it anymore. Nothing has changed since then, I am still unhealthy obsessed with perfumes. I have lots of favorites, so it is not that easy to make a short list... I am very much into vintage/old school/classic perfumes, avant garde niche, arabian stuff. My heart belongs to leathery, incense, oud, amber, patchouli, greenish notes.
I am a huge fan of Serge Lutens, I adore his style and vision of perfumery (created together with Christopher Sheldrake); I deeply respect Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons creations, I love Guerlain, Cacharel (old stuff they made), Amouage, État libre d'Orange, Frederic Malle, Tom Ford, Diptyque brands, every piece they make is special.
Сoncretely speaking, here are the perfumes I will always have (I hope to always have) in my collection in any form:
Guerlain "Shalimar" EDT/EDP
Byredo "M/Mink"
Serge Lutens "Baptême du Feu", "Chergui", "Ambre Sultan"
Calvin Klein "Obsession" and "CK One"
Les Liquides Imaginaires "Sancti"
BeauFort London "Terror & Magnificence"
Etat Libre d'Orange "Tilda Swinton Like This"
Diptyque "L’Ombre Dans L’Eau" EDP
Frederic Malle "Dans Tes Bras"
Tom Ford "London" or "Noir de noir"
Narciso Rodriguez "Narciso Rodriguez for Him" and "For her" in a pink bottle (EDP)
Chanel "Chanel No 5" EDP
Jacomo "Silences"
Paloma Picasso "Paloma Picasso"
Ted Lapidus "Creation"
Cacharel "LouLou", "Eden" and "Anais Anais"
The New Dawn/Novaya Zarya "Red Moscow"/"Krasnaya Moskva"
At the moment I have a small collection of 32 full size perfume bottles, and of course as a totally obsessed perfume maniac, I have lots of samples and atomizers of different sizes, with things I try daily (around 150 pieces). I also have three small vintage bottles of "Mitsouko" parfum (1985), "Shalimar" EDT (~1980s), and Otto Kern's "Noa Noa" (~1990s). My collection is not that big if to compare it with some influencers, but I enjoy having and trying every sample.
Sorry for the longposting, I can chitchat about perfumery for hours. The only thing to shut me up would probably be spraying "Baccarat rouge 540" in my face.

ah, I just got into perfumery (my latest hyper-fixation) and I find your acc coincidentally?! 🩵🪽 woohoo :] my current fave perfume is Narciso Rodriguez for her. I love scents that are woody, white flowers, musky, earthy, seductive but not sexy iykwim. they feel like a night’s breeze and there’s a natural, authentic element to them.
do you have any recs for me?
(can i be your 🪼 anon?)
Hello! 🩵 Yes you can
Hmmmm, I like those types too! I recommend trying
• Nishane Hundred Silent Ways X (sensual musky not too sweet white floral with depth) -> but not on the “natural authentic side” more on the musky seductive side
• Diptyque Orphéon (powdery, woody, put together but a free spirit, sitting in a calm place with the breeze blowing vibes)
or L’eau Papier (definitely very natural, musky, clean, bit woody)
You also might like Fleur De Peau (more aldehydic and quite powdery, I wasn’t a fan personally but ofc scents are different for everyone so if you walk past I recommend at least giving this a try because many do love this one)
or Doson, I highly recommend this the most probably, definitely fits the musky woody white floral vibe
All are definitely natural “melt into you” scents, diptyque does that well in many perfumes (can you tell I like this brand)
• Serge Lutens also very much fits the natural, floral, musky, alluring with a nights breeze vibe. Try clair de musc from them. But keep in mind this brand doesn’t have that much depth or intensity, they’re more for “vibes”

Hi, Shells! I was just wondering what your favorite perfumes are? I’ve been looking into buying one since my old one is out, and I know you like to collect them. Hope you’ve been doing well! ❤️
Tumblr media
Hi!!! 🖤
Omg, I love this question. I can talk perfumes all day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, so these are my faves. From left to right: Narciso Rodriguez For Her, LaVanila Vanilla Lavender, Chloe L’Eau, Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle, and Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely. The one by itself in the second pic is Caudalie Thé des Vignes. I love all of these so much. If I had to choose just one, I’d pick the LaVanila Vanilla Lavender. Oh, and one more, not pictured bcs I’m currently out of it, is Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy. Actually that one is probably my SECOND favorite after the LaVanila.
What is/are your favorite perfume(s)?
Love youuuu. 🥰

Chypress Eau de Toilette by Floris, a simple, but magnificent fragrance. Marketed as a for her scent, Chypress still dons enough coolness to be considered unisex. It sits at $135.00 for 100ml on the Floris London website. The notes are as follows:
Top: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange Flower, Neroli
Middle: Jasmine, Rose, Osmanthus, Ylang Ylang
Base: Amber, Vanilla, Musk, Patchouli
Upon first meeting Chypress myself, in a 2ml decant, I dreamt up an entirely different experience for it then opposed to how I experience it now. Perhaps this is because I was sampling Philosykos EDP on my left wrist at the same time. My first impression was wow, this smells familiar, freakily familiar. I don’t mean that it’s similar to another fragrance, however some reviews on Fragrantica share the opinion that it’s parallel to Narciso Rodriguez For Her. Chypress, to me, smelled like a familiar person or a distant family member who is convinced she changed your diapers, but you don’t recall ever meeting. It felt like a warm fur, a hand-me-down, and protection lent by a stranger. A guardian angel pinching your cheeks as you sit upon wooden chairs and drown in her overcoat.  My first handshake with Chypress was everything that a kid who had experienced the cold had dreamed of growing up to be.
It took me ten days of testing different fragrances (Sirens & Sailors by Jusbox and Baruti’s I’m Winter) then I purchased a full size of Chypress. Among receiving it in the mail, I met notes in this perfume that I had not detected previously. The citrusy top notes projected quite strong, and I now understood why many regard this fragrance as a scent for warmer weather. It was more than the original, simple warmness I enjoyed so much. The full size Chypress was no longer just that familiar family member, she was now the mom friend. She no longer appeals to just a Cancer or Aquarius Moon, but a jam-packed 4th house with venusian qualities.
In order to fully immerse you in this perfume, I am going to walk you through its stages. Because although this does check all the boxes for a classic Chypre, it is in no way linear. Today is a particularly humid day and Chypress, specifically the top notes, performs much differently depending on the weather.
On a day where the air is drier, colder and less dense, Chypress starts off with an extremely sweet citrus. A mandarin lays in a bed of flowers. Sometimes, memories of a lemon pastry trickle into the air. This, another reminder of my childhood. It does not read as fresh, but almost fizzy. The molecules do not strive to quench, instead they are excited, skating around on skin. They do not dribble down your hands after crushing fruit, they spread like a powdery pollen.
On a day where the air is wet and dense like today, the citrus is there, but dirty. Selena Gomez’s dress from the Fetish music video comes to mind. There is dampness in this expression of the fragrance. This mandarin smells riper and the flowers bloomed weeks ago. It is by no means sticky sweet, fresh, or clean in this stage, but lived in. It’s like when you first put on makeup and it needs to set.
Now, when it comes to the middle notes, I do think these perform similarly in warm or cool, dry or humid, shine or rain. This is the floral stage of Chypress and it reads jammy to me. This is not the strawberry jam from your cute, local diner either. This is the results of your foraging, the blossoms and stems that line your wooden basket. I do not smell much of rose here, I almost forgot it was a part of the notes.
Finally, the base notes, and my favorite part of this fragrance. The base notes of amber, vanilla, musk, and patchouli are not linear in anyway. The earthy patchouli comes first, reminding me of damp topsoil, although not fecal or pungent in that way. Here is where Chypress becomes a hug, reminiscent of the Black Sun and the womb. Patchouli swirls into drops of amber in an animalic musk. It is an earthworm’s journey through a dark forest after rain. The final stage of Chypress is soapy, a temperate bubble bath and balmy skin. I only recently started to notice this expression because of how similar it smells to my mom whose favorite fragrance is Amazing Grace by Philosophy. This is forest couture in the best possible way.
Final thoughts:
Although I am a novice in the fragrance world, I do think that Chypress objectively is a great wear.  When it comes to projectivity, I believe a foot radius would be accurate. The longevity of course depends on the climate. In humid climates it lasts about 6-8 hours and drier climate 4-6 hours. I don't mind re-applying, It is clear from the photos above that I have created a large dent in the bottle. I’ve had Chypress for approximately 22 days and apply it morning, afternoon, and night. On the surface it may look like a simple fragrance, but underneath the canopy leaves and among moss covered stone, there is a stunning complexity that with time will show itself.
Final Rating: 4/5
Astrology Placements this fragrance reminds me of:
Cancer and Aquarius Moon
Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus Venus
Photos are mine, do alert me if you see them used elsewhere, thank you!

Hi guys,
Hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Since I blogged my NYE countdown of 2023 makeup favourites between boxing day and new years day I didn't get to show you some Christmas Presents I got this year. This week and next week I'll be sharing some of my beauty gifts I was lucky to get this year.
Today we are starting off with the John Lewis The Shimmer Look Cracker. For the first time John Lewis released beauty crackers featuring 3 of their beauty best sellers. When I saw these online in October I thought they were so cute and showed my mum. Little did I know she was adding it to my christmas list (I'm very lucky to have such a great mum).
There were 2 types of these crackers one was the Shimmer Look and the other was the Glam cracker but I wasn't keen on the bright red lip (but if you do love a red lip it would be perfect for you). In these Christmas crackers you get 3 mini products which personally I have a new appreciation for because they fit in my handbag so much easier. The first product I got in the set is the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in rose gold. This eyeshadow stick is such a easy product to throw on your eyes when you need something quick and easy to blend. Personally I love anything rose gold so I was really happy with this shadow stick.
Next up I got the Narciso Rodriguez For Her Musc Noir Rose Eau de Parfum, 10ml. I'm a sucker for a easy travel perfume because I love wearing fragrances but I hate carrying around bottles in my work bag because I'm really clumsy. This scent is described as Sweet, fruity top notes of Italian bergamot oil, and sparking peppercorn give way to the signature heart of musk and plum, creating a sense of intimacy. I cannot describe scents to save my life so I needed to quote the website. Lastly I got a Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Colour, in the shade Neutral Rose. I have never used a Bobbi Brown lipstick because so I was really excited to try this out. This lipstick is made with a nourishing formula to hydrate your lips and leave you with a gorgeous satin finish. I love this lip colour and it is such a easy colour to wear everyday.
This gift set is such a cute present and even though the festive season has passed I'm planning to keep the cracker because the packing is so cute! I have linked the product above if you want to read more details but unfortunately this product was limited edition so you cannot purchase anymore. Sorry about that!
Lot’s of love

Short list and two perfumes I returned to:
Crystal Love For Her by Attar Collection - I would say this is pure vanilla syrup but that would sound bad, so let's say this is one of those Tumblr poll vanilla cakes that are more vanilla than cake but there's still a dessert in there somewhere. I don't really feel chocolate but I can imagine it there. It's okay - not my favourite gourmanic perfume but it's alright.
Signorina by Salvatore Ferragamo - this was somehow better than I expected it to be. (I'm sorry, the bottle is cringy.) The top is those very nice and fresh berries (it's red currant which I don't really enjoy food-wise, but apparently like as a smell) that then become fairly abstract lux-ish flowers - still lovely. The dryout is faintly sweet but much less than you'd expect with panacotta being a note there. Not sure if I'll return to it, but it's very nice.
Marry Me by Lanvin - was expecting slightly more prominent white flowers since I was recommended this thing as "white floral". Oddly, the bitter orange at is noticeable - there's slight tartiness at the top which is interesting but the flowers are too abstract for my taste. Also, it disappeared quicker than I'd prefer.
Perles De Lalique by Lalique - patchouli, my patchouli. Again - very prominent patchouli - not like damp basement patchouli, not really chocolate either, but closer to that. They're significantly freshened up with the rose, but the flowers are not very noticeable for my nose. I saw people comparing it to "Encre Noir" but this one is much lighter and much less earthy. Definitely goes to "try again" list.
Happy by Eisenberg - returning to this one in hopes of finding more budget friendly mimosa, but I'm not sure I succeeded. Not that it sounded worse on my skin than it did on the blotter but it was so faint and it disappeared so quickly. So, on the fence about this one.
Musc Noir Rose For Her by Narciso Rodriguez - this one however I loved on myself! Is it complicated or niche? Nope. Is it lovely and mood-lifting? Definitely. It absolutely gave me that fruity rose dessert that stayed on me for a long time, the musk didn't even think about misbehaving and the complete dry-out "aftertaste" was wonderful. Goes to the wish-list.
