What are the great positive effects of automated freight handling that longshoremen are denying you? What would become so much cheaper?
https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/transport/why-ports-matter-global-economy
Efficient port infrastructure has also been identified as a key contributor to overall port competitiveness and international trade costs. Unfortunately, ports and terminals, particularly for containers, are too often main sources of shipment delays, supply chain disruptions, additional costs, and reduced competitiveness. The result far too often is that instead of facilitating trade, the port increases the cost of imports and exports, reduces competitiveness, and inhibits economic growth and poverty reduction. The effect on a country or the countries served by the port can be severe. Inefficient ports can slow the circular system of container shipping, thereby reducing capacity, and reducing costs. Ships have to wait unnecessarily incurring additional fuel costs, additional emissions, and additional costs.
Improving container port performance lowers the cost of trade, contributes to food security, improves resilience, and reduces unnecessary emissions from vessels. The role of ports as the linchpin in the global economy is a major reason why the World Bank and S&P Global Markets are tracking port performance for nearly 350 global ports in the Container Ports Performance Index (CPPI).
When the cost of things goes up, that makes almost everyone worse off. I don't know how this could be clearer. You don't like it when you pay more money for things. Almost nobody likes paying more money to get the same things.
The US currently has some of the worst performing ports in the world. Because of resistance to modernization and make-work programs. Driven by dockworkers unions that use their monopolization of government-granted monopolies on infrastructure to....extract large amounts of money for themselves. This literally causes everything to be a little more expensive than it has to be. This to benefit dudes doing the equivalent of digging up holes just to fill them in again.

from this article with WoF’s screenwriter Weng Liangping! this person contributed alot to make the drama what it is, especially the plot and it’s nice to know that WoF is his debut work! <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve added some excerpts from this interview about him + of course more on mentions of Wang Yibo & Ruolai.
Weng Liangping, who majored in drama, film and television literature at university, entered the TV drama production center of Jiangxi Radio and Television Station after graduation and worked as a planner and editor for ten years. He has served as the script coordinator for many popular film and television dramas such as "Azalea" and "Feng Yun 1911".
Speaking of his first screenwriting work, Weng Liangping smiled and said: "Because of the artist's reasons, this drama has not been broadcast yet."
In 2018, Weng Liangping resigned from his job in the system and became a full-time screenwriter. "War of Faith" is the first script he wrote independently.
The inspiration for the script came from his work at a television station. When he was looking through materials on the history of the revolution, he accidentally discovered the history of the Soviet State Bank. "Most of the previous dramas that wrote about the history of Jiangxi's revolution (screenwriters) wrote about front-line battles and the story of the barrel of a gun. The money bag, that is, the logistics support such as money and food, was rarely touched upon. "Weng Liangping immediately felt that this was a story worth exploring, but considering the setting of the plot and the shaping of the character's growth, he finally targeted the protagonist at a fledgling young man in the central bank established by the Kuomintang.
Then there are the joining of several young actors. When it comes to starring Wang Yibo, Li Qin, Wang Yang and other actors, Weng Liangping was full of praise. "Wei Ruolai was portrayed very well, like the drunken scene when he was out of the circle, and the scene where he was tortured by Captain Lin in prison. Also when Wei Ruolai's brother passed away, the actor performed the panic and sad feeling. I myself It made me cry.”
The actors' outstanding performances made the characters in Weng Liangping's script come alive.
There is a lot of discussion about the character online. The audience called Shen Tunan a financial tycoon, and gave Wei Ruolai an affectionate nickname: Financial Milk Crocodile.
There were also many enthusiastic viewers who analyzed the historical archetypes of Wei Ruolai and Shen Tunan. Weng Liangping also responded positively to this matter, "Actually, these characters have no fixed prototypes." Talking about the character Wei Ruolai, "He is a little man in the background of the times, smart and stubborn. When facing his master Shen Tunan , and he is very sincere. But behind the sincerity, he has his own opinions and plans for many things."
In addition, the constant output of golden sentences in the play also prompted "War of Faith" to continue to break out of the circle. A set of golden sentences produced by Wei Ruolai in his speech to recover the custody rights of tariffs were also one of the most impressive scenes when Weng Liangping wrote the script. "When I first wrote it, I was thinking about why Wei Ruolai could persuade others. In fact, the people present gathered together for nothing more than profit. And the manifestation of profit was to seize the market. Then I checked various population data at that time , economic data, and with the continuous support of the director team, this speech will be gradually improved."
In the final TV series, Wei Ruolai stood on the stage and gave a passionate unscripted speech, which not only aroused the resonance of the 124 members in the audience, but also burned into the hearts of the audience.

Upping the Ante: The Garden Resource Program
But the big leap forward for Detroit’s urban farming movement came in 2003, when the Earthworks Farm joined forces with the Detroit Agriculture Network, the Greening of Detroit (an organization primarily focused on reforesting the city), and the Michigan State University Extension Service, to found the Garden Resource Program Collaborative. The Garden Resource Program (GRP) which grew out of that collaboration started by providing seeds and some gardening resources (tilling, compost, etc.) to 39 community gardens and 41 family garden participants. But the program has grown by leaps and bounds, so that now the GRP provides a multitude of training classes, technical assistance and advice, marketing guidance, etc., in addition to providing seeds and seedlings to community and individual gardens across the city. For the price of GRP membership ($10 for family gardens; $20 for community gardens), members are able to pick up spring seeds in late March, cold crop transplants in April, warm-weather seeds and sets in May, and fall crop transplants in mid-summer, with all seedlings being grown organically at the Earthworks Farm.
During the 2008 growing season, the Garden Resource Program provided resources to 169 community gardens, 40 school gardens, and 359 family gardens within the city. In the process it distributed 32,320 packets of seeds and approximately 129,360 transplants! The 40 by 60 foot greenhouse at Earthworks farm is now working at capacity to provide those transplants, and the growth of the Garden Resources Program is still accelerating.
But the Garden Resources Program seeks to provide more than just gardening resources and skills. The GRP consciously strives to make the urban farming a communitybuilding activity. By emphasizing community gardens, where the work and the produce are shared, and community garden events and celebrations (community work days, picnics and cook-outs, meetings to plan, evaluate, and share experiences, etc.), the GRP helps strengthen community bonds as it enlivens the communities in which it operates. Megan Kohn, an Americorps volunteer serving on staff for the Garden Resource Program, came to Detroit “... to practice small-scale, intensive growing practices [because]...more people need to be growing food close to where they live...” Her immersion in the Garden Resource Program, however, caused her to “come to a deep realization that the work is so much more about the people, and the connection between people... Neighbors growing food together is powerful. We are literally building an alternative food system here...”

Wait… Zareen has test tube babies? For centuries?!! How common was this? What do they use it for? What is Zareen and the world’s opinion on these test tube babies?
I talked about this more in this other post, but here is some additional info:
Zygrow services are expensive, so it's not something lower classes are doing. However, it's becoming increasingly common for upper classes to have children this way, as fertility rates plunge in the polluted industrial kingdoms and having children the natural way becomes less possible. Currently, Zygrow's services are only available in Zareen Empire.
This technology has been around for so long, most Zareenites are accustomed to it. Culturally, Zygrown babies are seen as superior to naturally-birthed babies (though in reality, there isn't much difference between the two). It's the type of thing parents brag about, because they fell for Zygrow's bullshit marketing. "Our little Johnny is a Zygrow baby! He's much more advanced than those other kids!"
Cut to Johnny, eating paste with the rest of his peers. lol
Outside of Zareen Empire, Zygrow's operations are seen in a more negative light. The Nymph Pact nations generally view it as unnatural and an insult to Gaia, and believe it will have negative consequences on society over time. Even other Industrial nations, like Damijana and Yerim-Mor, are wary of Zygrow's technology and have banned it...at least publicly. (I think these governments secretly commission projects from Zygrow while publicly condemning them...the tech is just too exploitable for these rich ghouls to ignore. Rumor has it that Chieftess Serafeen herself is a Zygrow baby!)
Even in Zareen Empire, Zygrow's operations are strictly regulated. For example, they are not allowed to alter genes of peoples in any way. They just insert sperm and egg into the growth vat and whatever happens, happens. If the result is a deformed or otherwise unhealthy child, so be it. The law prohibits Zygrow from interfering in the way these children grow.
(Though once again, they have secret projects that break this rule, like their "super soldier" program. Some of their customers are privy to this and have bribed Zygrow to edit their children's genes in some way, so there are some genetically-enhanced people roaming Looming Gaia currently, despite the illegality. I will once again reference Chieftess Serafeen...you think her ultra-brilliant mind is natural? Yeah, about as "natural" as Empress Qara's boobs...)
There are less restrictions for animals, and Zygrow has taken advantage of this to create lab-grown meat for the food industry and special war dogs for the military.

Sustainable Farming Practices: A Pathway to Future Food Security
Tumblr media
In the face of growing global challenges such as climate change, population growth, and depleting natural resources, the need for sustainable farming practices has never been more critical. Agriculture remains the backbone of many economies, but traditional farming methods often contribute to environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, and soil erosion. To secure the future of food production, sustainable farming offers a transformative solution that balances productivity with environmental stewardship.
1. The Importance of Soil Health
Healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable farming. Through techniques such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced tillage, farmers can improve soil structure, enhance its ability to retain water, and reduce erosion. The integration of organic matter into the soil also promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms, contributing to long-term soil fertility.
2. Water Management: Reducing Waste and Preserving Resources
Effective water management is crucial for sustainable agriculture. Traditional irrigation methods often lead to water waste, but sustainable practices like drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and the use of drought-resistant crops can significantly reduce water usage. Precision agriculture technologies, such as soil moisture sensors, allow farmers to optimize water application, ensuring crops receive only what they need, when they need it.
3. Biodiversity: Enhancing Ecosystem Resilience
Biodiversity plays a key role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and improving the resilience of farming systems. By incorporating diverse crops and livestock, farmers can reduce the risk of pest outbreaks and diseases. Agroforestry, which integrates trees into farming systems, enhances biodiversity while providing additional income streams, such as timber and fruit production.
4. Reducing Chemical Dependency
Sustainable farming promotes the reduction of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, which can harm the environment and human health. Alternatives like integrated pest management (IPM) use biological control methods, such as beneficial insects, to manage pests. Additionally, organic farming methods focus on natural soil amendments and composting to enrich the land without harmful chemicals.
5. Renewable Energy in Agriculture
The shift to renewable energy sources is becoming an essential aspect of sustainable farming. Solar panels, wind turbines, and bioenergy can power farming operations, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Many farms are now integrating renewable energy technologies to achieve self-sufficiency while also contributing to environmental conservation.
6. The Role of Technology in Sustainable Farming
Advances in agricultural technology are playing a transformative role in sustainability efforts. Precision farming tools, such as GPS-guided tractors, drones for crop monitoring, and automated irrigation systems, help farmers optimize inputs and maximize efficiency. These innovations not only increase productivity but also minimize waste and environmental impact.
7. Promoting Local and Organic Markets
Sustainable farming goes hand in hand with the promotion of local and organic food markets. Supporting local farmers reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation and encourages the consumption of fresh, seasonal produce. Additionally, organic farming practices prioritize animal welfare, soil health, and chemical-free food production, contributing to a healthier food system.
Conclusion
Sustainable farming practices offer a viable solution to the challenges facing modern agriculture. By prioritizing soil health, efficient water use, biodiversity, and renewable energy, farmers can produce food in a way that safeguards the environment for future generations. The integration of technology further enhances the potential for sustainable farming to meet global food demands while reducing the ecological footprint of agriculture. The adoption of these practices is not just a necessity for the future of farming—it is a pathway to long-term food security and environmental sustainability.

Lessons from Failed Startup
Tumblr media
Starting a business is an exciting venture, but it also comes with its fair share of risks. Despite the countless success stories, the startup world is filled with many who didn’t make it. Learning from these failures can be invaluable for aspiring entrepreneurs. In this blog, we’ll explore the top reasons why startups fail, share examples of failed startups in India, and provide essential lessons to help others avoid similar pitfalls.
Top Reasons Why Startups Fail
Every year, thousands of startups shut down, and the reasons for their failures are often surprisingly common. Here are some of the primary reasons why startups fail:
1. Lack of Market Demand: A significant number of startups fail because they create a product or service that doesn’t meet market needs. Without sufficient demand, even the most innovative ideas can struggle to gain traction.
2. Poor Business Model: Some startups lack a clear or sustainable business model. Without a solid plan for generating revenue and managing expenses, financial problems quickly arise.
3. Insufficient Funding: Startups often require continuous funding to develop and scale their products. A lack of capital can halt growth, making it impossible to stay competitive.
4. Inadequate Team: A strong, cohesive team is essential for any startup’s success. When startups lack the right talent, face internal conflicts, or experience high turnover, they often struggle to execute their vision.
5. Unsuccessful Marketing: Without effective marketing strategies, even the best products may go unnoticed. Many startups fail to reach their target audience or don’t communicate their value effectively, resulting in limited growth.
Failed Startups in India
India has witnessed both successful and unsuccessful startups. Below are some well-known startups that failed to survive in the competitive landscape:
– AskMe: Once a popular online classifieds portal, AskMe struggled with cash flow issues and eventually shut down in 2016 due to its inability to secure additional funding.
– Stayzilla: Initially a leader in the budget accommodation segment, Stayzilla closed in 2017. The company faced challenges with customer demand and a lack of financial sustainability.
– Doodhwala: This milk delivery startup failed due to operational and funding issues, unable to compete with larger players in the food delivery space.
Important Lessons from Failed Startups
Learning from others’ mistakes can provide a roadmap for success. Here are key lessons from failed startups that every entrepreneur should consider:
1. Conduct Thorough Market Research: Understanding market demand and customer needs is crucial. Make sure your product or service has a clear value proposition and a defined target audience.
2. Develop a Scalable Business Model: Ensure that your business model can grow and adapt over time. Plan for scalability from the start to avoid future complications.
3. Secure Sufficient Funding: Keep track of your cash flow and understand your financial needs. Securing funding from reliable sources and planning for contingencies can help keep your startup afloat.
4. Prioritize Team Building and Culture: A strong team and positive workplace culture are essential for long-term success. Hire team members who align with your vision and bring diverse skills to the table.
5. Adapt to Market Changes: The startup environment is highly dynamic. Be ready to pivot if necessary, whether that means adjusting your product or altering your business strategy.
Tips to Overcome Startup Failure
Experiencing setbacks or failure doesn’t mean the end of the journey. Here are a few strategies to help startups overcome challenges and avoid failure:
1. Embrace a Growth Mindset: Accepting failures as learning opportunities helps you stay resilient and motivated to improve.
2. Network and Seek Mentorship: Connecting with industry mentors and other entrepreneurs can provide valuable guidance and support through challenging times.
3. Focus on Financial Management: Proper financial planning is essential. Control expenses and invest in areas that yield the best returns.
4. Stay Customer-Centric: Continuously listen to your customers’ feedback and improve your offerings. Building a loyal customer base can sustain your business during difficult periods.
