when people look at some wheelchair user who can move legs / stand / walk / ambulatory / etc, n they respond with “not all wheelchair user paralyzed,” then if do “educational” post, often go on explain how don’t have (traumatic) spinal cord injury / SCI

often with attitude “paralysis / SCI (to them same thing) so well known well understood accommodated accepted visible”

which. in isolation, “not all wheelchair user paralyzed” & “not all wheelchair user have (traumatic) SCI” objectively true.

but it’s like. the utter confidence in their complete ignorance of paralysis and SCI, & ignorance of their ignorance, conflating paralysis always = SCI, & that both always mean cannot move leg at all. all while treating paralysis & SCI as this most understood disability / wheelchair using reason they a victim of.

as in like. if someone give you shit about be in wheelchair but move leg & you want educate. tell them some wheelchair user can move leg. not “not all wheelchair user paralyzed” because some people paralyzed can also move leg. saying latter only show your ignorance about paralysis, while throw ppl w paralysis under bus

did you know SCI & paralysis not the same. did you know can have leg paralysis without traumatic SCI through some sort physical injury. multiple sclerosis, ALS, FND, tumor, paraneoplastic syndrome, cerebral palsy etc can all cause paralysis. n many more

did you know paralysis can be monoplegia (one limb), paraplegia (both legs), diplegia (same area both side of body), hemiplegia (one side of body), & quadriplegia (all limbs). as in, yes, some people may have paralysis but still can move legs because at least one leg not affected.

did you know (depending on how categorize) there two types of spinal cord injury. complete & incomplete. people w incomplete SCI, brain can still send some signals below SCI site & so have some feeling and/or function.

did you know some people w SCI can move legs, including involuntary spasms (tho sometimes can be on purpose triggered by doing certain things if learn trigger).

did you know some w incomplete SCI can voluntarily move legs. can walk with mobility aids. can walk without mobility aids. can be ambulatory wheelchair user. some use their spasm to stand. n they still considered have (incomplete) SCI & paralysis.

I was wondering if you could write about a symptom with a reader who has a form of Conversion disorder/ A form of Fnd?

It's a umbrella term but to put it into words for what it; it is when a person experiences temporary physical symptoms, such as blindness or paralysis, that do not have a physical cause. While the exact cause of conversion disorder is unknown, researchers believe it occurs in response to stressful situations or trauma.

I personally have problems with my legs not moving at all for inconsistent periods of time.(Could be 5 mins or 3 hours) (Dw I'm fine I have a mobility aid)

So my question is which yandere twst boy do you think would take advantage of the whole leg thing most?

Now imagine… you get taken to twst, and you still have conversion disorder, but no mobility aid. Crowley ain’t gonna help you. That’s just facts. So you go to Mr tech wiz on campus, Idia Shroud. But but but… he doesn’t really know what he’s supposed to be building for you 🥺 and he wants to get it right…. So you HAVE to stay with him whenever he works on it!! So he can get it right for you!!! Yeah you’re not getting a mobility aid. Man’s won’t even finish a fucking walker or wheelchair or walking stick for you, because it’ll never be “just right” or “perfect” enough for you…

So you want to know about Oz! (6)

The "Oz" world is definitively one of the big slices of American culture, and yet it has managed to reach many countries outside of the USA!

For example, Japan. The Wizard of Oz is one of the several American works of fiction that were brought over to the Nippon world and that Japanese folks took quite a liking to! As a result it regularly pops up there alongside more European "foreign classics" like Alice in Wonderland or the Grimm fairytales.

The first Japanese Oz adaptation I know of was an animated movie created in 1982 by Toho, adapting The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

It was one of the two most famous anime adaptations of the Oz books. The other I talked about before: 1986's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz series, which is to this day one of the most complete Oz adaptations ever made for screen. Indeed, this anime doesn't just cover "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", but also "The Marvelous Land of Oz", "Ozma of Oz" and "The Emerald City of Oz". In fact, when I first got a DVD of the series as a kid I was VERY confused as to why suddenly there were all these weird events and characters comng out of nowhere, since I was only aware of the very first book.

[Looking at these animes allows one to notice several big cultural changes from American to Japan. For example, these adaptations have a tendency to give a purplish-skin to the Wicked Witch of the West, as opposed to the greenish skin of the Witch in American media... And it reflects how in Japanese visuals purple is the color most associated with toxic products, radioactivity and poison, whereas it is "green" the venomous and radioactive color in American media]

There is a second series that is more... unique to say the least. 1991's The Wonderful Galaxy of Oz (Space Oz no Bouken), which is a retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz... but in space! We are not in the early 1900s but in 2060, "New Kansas" is actually a planet, Oz an ENTIRE NEW GALAXY, and the quest for the "Brain, Heart, Courage" becomes a quest for magical crystals of "Love, Wisdom and Courage" to fend off an intergalatic invasion... Yeah that's very Japanese for you.

Adaptations of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" also appeared from time to time as individual episodes in fairytale anthologies series - from 1976's Manga sekai mukashi Banashi, to 1993's World Fairy Tale Series, passing by a stand-alone OVA from (1983 I believe?).

Outside of animes, the world of Oz notably had great success in the domain of Japanese video games.

Most people today are familiar with the game "The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road", which was originally released in 2008 under the strange name... "Riz-Zoawd?". And which is ... quite loosely adapted from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. (You don't have one wicked witch to defeat but four seasonal witches to fight ; the magical shoes are given to Dorothy by the Wizard of Oz who summoned her to the land, etc...)

And while it is not available anymore, there was this app game that was quite talked about and documented online. It was a dating sim part of the "Shall we date?" line: Oz+ Shall we date?

A dating simulation taking place after the events of the novel, but in a world where Dorothy's companions became pretty young human men, and the Land of Oz doesn't have four Witches but four Warlocks... And this game actually had, surprisingly, quite a lot of Oz lore to it! I will definitively say that it was a precursor of future games like "Twisted Wonderland", in the idea of an "actually serious at worldbuilding genderbent game".

There are a few others but I unfortunately cannot fnd them back for now... Oh well!

And while I am at it, this is NOT a Japanese work, this is a Korean manhwa, but I think it still deserves a mention: "Dorosi" (published in English as "Dorothy of Oz") which is a very interesting reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz as a sci-fi/science-fantasy series (the Witches are not witches, but hyper-advanced scientists delving into robotics, genetics and other sci-fi technology; a lot of the characters are just mutants or equiped with android-prosthetics, etc, etc...)

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls- 3x9-Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving- Part 1

It's 6:30am on the 4th of July. It feels like as a good a time as any to write about a Thanksgiving episode. I am quite fond of this episode, it's one of my favorites. It includes a historical first: which is Lorelai being kinda nice to Jess? Hooray! It's a Thanksgiving miracle! But off to the house fire with him again for Black Friday. I cannot, however, even in the spirit of Julyskiving, be nice to Lorelai when describing this episode. This is, after all, the "Just because you and Rory broke up doesn't mean we did" episode. Would you mind taking a Niceness Raincheck, Lorelai? I doubt it will be useful in s3. For the time being, just accept all of the comedic verbal beatdowns that you have coming from me. Jess can sympathize with Pete. But he's beating his meat instead of eggs. This one is a bit borderline, but it qualifies for a check on the "thinly veiled sexual reference" square on my Bingo Card. I cannot take my eyes off this mug Michel is holding and "sipping" from because it's the emptiest Empty Mug I've seen so far on this show. Heh heh. We learn that Lorelai has faked illness and poor cellphone reception (that's not terribly hard in 2002, the year of our lord) to try and weasel out of the last two FND's. Why, you ask? Because she's still hopping mad at Emily and Richard for...taking Rory on a trip to look at a school that wasn't Harvard. Emily Gilmore, the Queen that she is, lays down that in no uncertain terms that Lorelai will have to spend Thanksgiving doing FND. Emily won’t allow Lorelai get in a word in edgewise, complain, or protest 🫡 so Lorelai lays down like a dog and submits. I love to see it.

She will be ever so lonely on Thanksgiving and needs a place to spend the holiday. *bats eyelashes at Rory* Madelyn plans to spend Thanksgiving filling out applications for safety schools. Paris agres that is incredbly important to weigh as many options as possible when applying to colleges. Rory, meanwhile , remembers that just a short while ago, her Mommy had a nuclear meltdown in public and shut her grandparents out for weeks over the mere idea of her even looking at or thinking about a backup school. Much like the time she realized she forgot to enroll in extra cirricular activities, this is someone who is quietly contemplating just how badly she's boned. Academically speaking.

Paris receives a return call on her ancient cellphone from a soup kitchen, with whom she tries to wrangle a volunteer opportunity. This is how Rory looks at Paris angrily ranting at a charitable organization:

Paris may not be able to pad her college application by helping the needy this year, but she will always be a volunteer in the soup kitchen of Rory's heart.

They then decide to cut Luke from their schedule, because ol Grumpy Gus doesn't care about holidays and he won't miss them.

And so what if he did? Peace and harmony will be achieved when the people of The Hollow are free and able to be their true and authentic sexual selves.

None of which they'll pay for.

Perhaps you can un-disappoint him by paying for your food. So moved were the Gilmore GIrls by Luke's rare, almost visible display of emotion, that they decide they can work him into their schedule after all.

Batten down the hatches, guy. The Gilmores are coming. To your restaurant. Just like they do every day. Multiple times a day. Sometimes after you've already closed. Always eating, never paying.

Rory emptied two beach pails of Ben and Jerry's ice cream in one sitting after Dean dumped her. She ain't wrong. Have FND on the mind so I’m gonna info dump and then share my experience.

FND stands for Functional Neurological Disorder. Neurology is the study of the nervous system, how the brain and body communicate. In FND, the functioning of the nervous system is bad, causing miscommunication between the brain and body. FND frequently develops from C-PTSD or PTSD, but can develop for other reasons. Anything that could “fry” your nervous system really. Because FND causes a miscommunication between the brain and body, a vast array of neurological symptoms can present, including seizures, tremors, tics, paralysis, pain, speech impediments, brain fog, dystonia, and more. Some people experience many neurological symptoms, and some people only experience a few symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms people face can change throughout the years! Therapy is commonly used to help treat the underlying condition causing the overworked nervous system, but some medications can help reduce symptoms as well.

Now for my experience with FND! So my main symptom of FND is seizures, I have a sub-diagnosis of PNES (haha) or Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures. I get seizures anytime my mind or body get stressed out, so if my heart rate gets too high, i seize. my heart rate can spike from being too hot, standing for too long, being dehydrated, working out, or being stressed out. I also get seizures at night and in the mornings, because theyre non epileptic I wake up to seize and then fall back asleep usually. Before I went through trauma therapy I had a tremor in my right hand that developed at the same time as my PTSD, but its gone now!

I’m also diagnosed with tourette syndrome but im not sure if my tics are from tourettes or FND or both! Scientifically there isnt a lot of difference between the two to my knowledge.

Guys, I need to rave about this chair. It’s not meant for disabled folks, it’s not even made for indoors, but it is so so helpful to my and my FND.

I am fully aware that size and price will make this not an option for many, but if you can I highly recommend it or something similar!

It’s in B&Q’s outdoor seating section because it is garden chair.

Let’s discuss; look at all that snuggle space! It’s got a really wide, mostly-circular seat. That black cushion it comes with is well padded, but it can be a bit protruding and takes up a lot of space, though if you do lie back it becomes a lovely back and neck support! I’m a curl-up-like-a-cat person though so it often falls on me and I have to push it back up.

You can fit lots of other cushions in there! That orange that’s poking up; this are my sleeping pillows from my bed, you definitely want two on top of one another because the slope of the sides leave a gap where the seat cushion ends. I’m thinking of getting some door draught excluders because I think they’ll be the right shape to fill the gap.

I will absolutely be getting a bunch of fairy lights to string up and around it! Try and stop me.

The really wide seat also means you’ve got plenty of space to get in and out; you can see how much space my little table is taking up in front of it, but I can still get in and out easily. Lots of space to get help from a carer!

So. Much. Grab space! This thing is sturdy. It’s got a few thick metal bars and in between is a mix of plastic fake wicker and some thinner metal bars. These thick metal ones are in a position you can grab and lift yourself, they’re excellent for when you need to pull yourself out of a curl-up.

That empty semi-circle bar is a little bit high, so you gotta do a bit of a push up before you can grab it, but then it’ll happily take your weight as you sit properly upright and I usually continue holding it while I stand up. You definitely need some arm flexibility if you use it to stand up though because it will end up behind you a bit.

Also discussing the wicker; you can squeeze a blanket between the bars and make a little den!

The side bars are also perfect for leaning up forearm crutches pretty securely so you don’t have to worry about struggling to get to your aids.

The seat cushion is T H I C K and pretty durable (again; it’s an outdoor chair). This means it’s so comfy on your bum, hips, shoulders, knees, and toes, whatever you want to put on it.

It’s the perfect height for my legs to reach the floor and I’m 5’5”. Meaning it’s nice and low enough for even small doggy companions to jump up next to you for extra snuggly snugglepod snuggles!

Finally; I do want to mention that while I absolutely recommend this chair I do not recommend B&Q.

They sent me a faulty chair in the first place that couldn’t be assembled and it took them 2 whole months and numerous phone calls/online chats (and I told them I was disabled and struggling to get around it since it was in pieces on my floor each time) to sort it out and even then the only reason they finally did something about it was because I had to get a letter about my rights from Citizens Advice and that’s when they actually got my new chair sorted!

I have cried so much to get this chair, but it’s one of my favourite things in my home and soothes me a lot when I’m struggling.

When the chronic health conditions flare up they don’t do it lightly… all whilst recovering from eye surgery 6 days ago.

I’ve been noticing both FND and Fibromyalgia getting worse over the last couple of weeks with the weather change, but I didn’t expect today to hold 3 seizures, being unable to move my left leg as a result (it’s always been the right leg affected), an ambulance and being unable to hold my own weight standing due to how shaky my legs were and how dizzy my head was.

Grateful that it’s not an eating disorder admission but surprised that I have been admitted medically.

Current status: completely exhausted, legs burning with pain but grateful to finally have a bed to lie down in 🙏🏻

Give me physically disabled Sirius Black. Sirius Black with EDS, who uses joint supports and her rings are ring splints and they sometimes can't sleep at night because of pain and they wake up with dislocated joints and have to stop playing quidditch at 15 because his joints are just too bad by that point. Sirius Black with POTS who gets really scared when they have heart palpitations and never showers with the door locked and only ever when Remus is in the dorm just in case and they get dizzy when they stand up and sometimes she has to rely on her friends to catch him when they nearly fall. Sirius Black whose leg is paralysed after one of their mother's punishments in 5th year and they run away to James' and have to quit quidditch after that and use a walking stick. Sirius Black with gastroparesis who can only eat a minimal amount of food and is predominantly fed via feeding tube. Sirius Black with FND who has tics and seizures and occasional temporary paralysis and who teaches their friends how to care for her when he has a seizure or a tic attack. Sirius Black whose disability (s) make them feel closer to Remus, whose disability (s) help him to understand Remus better and vice versa, who make her a better boyfriend to Remus and vice versa. Sirius Black who, along with James Potter, hexes anyone who dares say anything ableist to or about them or their boyfriend. Sirius Black and Remus Lupin being Hogwarts' resident disabled power couple. Disabled Sirius Black.

Fave season of ouat. And y. Go. (Mine is 3 bc that’s when you see hooks softer/ but still flirtier side and the relationship growing). Although 5-6 come very close bc they are stronger and the proposal and wedding. Ahhhh. But omg when he asked for David’s blessing. That ep had me. But all the kissing in season 3. Oh wait, there’s other people other than hook and Emma in ouat? Nah.

Oh gosh.... (edit: i wrote like two paragraphs of this before realizing you just asked general favorite season, not favorite CS season, but I still turned this into a CS post.)

Season 2 is not bad. There's so much there for background to understand where emma was coming from, versus season 1 which was mostly us as viewers learning who everyone was in the enchanted forest and how the story we know was being reinterpreted. Now it was learning where Emma was coming from, where Killian comes into the picture and some of his background, where Cora comes from which lays the groundwork for how she raised Regina and where she is coming from. How they became the people they became today, the steps of their recent history. The continuous choices and situations that led them to where they were when they all came together. I love straight up evil Killian. It's fun. Him trusting her immediately, him being sassy flirty, him saying "just a I'm done with you" (pssh, okay my guy). but at the end, despite it being good writing, I'm just okay about it. I mean yea its got Tallahassee.... but I also am not a fan of how they handled the neal/emma relationship when they were young. Michael Raymond-James is NOTICEABLY an older man well into his 30s, and I could buy him being a rough 20 something, but Emma is VERY MUCH meant to be late teens and that entire casting situation and its implications followed by the pushing in later seasons for her to be with Neal by her family just makes me so very uncomfortable.

Three is honestly such a fair choice. I love season 3 with Hook starting to realize he needs to change and wants to change. But also still actively having to purge his villain tendencies. Rolling his eyes while volunteering to help Belle research. His snarky comments constantly that no one laughs at cause they're a little on the meaner side. But also the way he and Emma so automatically can read each other. She just has to tilt her head or nod and he knows what she wants him to do. The longing looks, the declarations. Nothing beats "when I win your heart, and I will win it. It will be because you want me" NOTHING. "I'm in this for the long haul" after saying he'll back off to give Henry the chance at a family, and won't inject himself into that. But also knows Neal will mess it up, knows he'll be on the sidelines for the second of an oppertunity. Knows that he DOES stand a valid chance if he wanted to fight. Like, just fuck me up. The shift in Regina's character and how she learns to become good, how that is different from Hook's journey but they both recognize it being the same journey. Her teaming up with Rumple to fnd Henry and it markedly NOT being villains teaming up, but her willing to do anything to save her son and the second she realizes its no good, she's gone. Learning more about the emotional backstory and early character moments in their lives, Hook, Emma, and Regina especially. Learning the complicate pasts, and seeing the steps they took to get here. I feel like actual writing wise- its the strongest season for them. Its also go the best lines. Like Regina and Robin also is SO GOOD in the flashbacks and I forever regret not getting more of them in that weird flirty hate each other stage but what we did get was SO GOOD. "Where you come from, they bath in the river and use pine cones for money" Lana... ma'am.... that is THE BEST LINE in the entire show for me. This season had all the potential, and for that it gets a lot of points. A lot of what was built didn't get delivered on as well as it should have, but that's not the foundations fault. And this season was the foundation.

Season 4 is prime them in love. I love the relationship part of most shows when they handle it well, and I think THAT aspect was handled well. Him obviously in love, her coming to terms with what that means. So much angst in a good way of him being the reason for some of the problems she has. Of him not having his heart. Of him realizing he can't keep making the same villain mistakes if he's going to be with her, if he's going to change. If he's going to be a better man. This is a great season just like... FOR him. You see the realizations that he's made these mistakes and he can't even blame his past self. His current self did this to himself. You see the beginnings of his self-loathing and how that builds the reasoning for the choices he makes. He's had his hook for centuries, he's learned how to work with it and around it. But for the date, the internalized ableism got the better of him, and he thought in order to be a better man, and the man she deserved, he needed to be 'whole.' Which is IMMeDIATELY disproved when she doesn't even realize he had his hand until its pointed out, and also doesn't notice its a hook again later because she loves HIM she sees HIM. Those outward shifts and changes are not important. She notices his clothing change because it represents so much more about him embracing this weird strange land and showing he's sticking around. But his hook? Well thats just part of him that she accepts because its part of him so when he changes it its not something she notices. (sorry, i have a LOT of feelings about this episode) And then the whole darkness inside him and the hand and him being a villain and being afraid of losing his happy ending. 4b is weak we all know that, but the emotions of it are so strong. "Don't you know Emma? It's you." MY GUYYYYYY. The kisses we got this season, the emotional leaps and bounds. Him admitting having her in his life is what keeps him on the side of the heroes. Him saying he hopes its his job to protect her heart even when no one is actively trying to steal it. Her discovering more about her past and really starting to share her history with someone, showing her past and being vulnerable with someone and allowing them to scale the fortress she's put up to protect herself. Learning that someone is there begging to be let in, and isn't going away, and even when she ignores him he says basically that he's not deterred so easily, she's worth it, he recognizes that, and he'll just wait patiently for her to be ready. He will always put her first. Will put her family first. Often at the expense of himself.

Now season 5. Look. Do I think its strong? No. It's some of the saddest writing (season 6 is the worst in my opinion) in that it had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. But it Never delivers it. Season 4 was their love story, so there's no need to focus so heavily on them in season 5, sometimes having them not even interact in scenes that make NO SENSE for them to not interact. Despite the fact that she's just told him she loved him before being taken over by the darkness and saying she trusts him to be able to reach her and save her. Despite the entire ARC being ABOUT THEM for BOTH HALVES, the actual day to day episode to episode is not about them at all. So little focused on them, on them interacting, on their story. It was such a mess. So much promise with so little delivery. Nothing was allowed to breath, nothing was allowed to sit, no one was allowed to have a single thought to work through what they were going through. He's evil for what? a single episode? and in the middle of it there's this entire hour about a character we don't know, with no one we care about, about something never mentioned again that holds zero bering on ANYTHING that happens or has happened. So much wasted time. I LOVE what 5 could have been. I LOVE the implications, and the shifts in narrative and expectation. I LOVE the discovery and acceptance of their relationship and the confirmations we get. I HATE nothing is ever discussed on screen. Everything is implied to happen off screen "like I told you" Did you tell her when the cameras were off? We're given nothing we should have. Everyone else is just set dressing, and yet have all the focus. Its disjointed and just lazy, and its only saving grace is whoever had the initial idea on the brain storm board and then the acting itself. But damn if this season doesn't give me inspiration.

Finally, season 6.... I'll leave at saying when its good, its great. All three singular scenes that are good. There's no follow through from whats already happened to these characters. There's no acknowledgment of their past selves, their past experiences. Hook is GENUINELY shocked that Emma understands why he didn't toss the shears knowing she'd hate him for doing 'the one thing that could save her' WHEN THAT WAS THE ENTIRE CLIMAX OF 5A!

My partner has been doing a daily card pull as homework for a tarot class he’s sitting in on so I decided this would be a good opportunity to start doing that as well! While my personal deck isn’t mapped to a traditional tarot system, the cards can easily be read in a similar way.

Today I drew Shadow upright. Shadow is a trump and stands in the position of ‘Death’ in my deck. While it can warn of a coming change, Shadow often represents the unknown, the reason and solution for a problem. Shadow’s general teaching is that the problem that haunts you is trying to send you a message; while it may seem impossible to fnd your way, the path to a solution will eventually come into view when seen in the right light.

My intuitive reading is that Shadow is tuning into my worries and insecurities. My cards are often quite upfront and sensitive to what is influencing me the most at any given time, and this reading is no different. I’ve admittedly been a little obsessed with keeping up with the news and I’ve been listening to a lot of political commentary to the point where it might be a little detrimental to my productivity and mental health. While these things are important and I do not want to fall into the trap of ignorance, I think Shadow is hinting that I need to turn inwards and reflect for a beat.

The Murder of Peter Fabiano

October 30, 2023

On October 31, 1957, Halloween night, in Sun Valley, California, a 35 year old hairdresser named Peter Fabiano answered his door shortly after 11 pm. Peter, being a little annoyed due to the late trick or treaters, said, "It's a little late for this, isn't it?"

The person standing on the other side of the door was not a child -- the person was taller, with a "grotesque" painted face, domino mask and wearing men's clothing including blue jeans, a khaki jacket and red gloves.

The trick or treater replied in a deep voice, "No" and held up a paper bag with a gun inside it. Then a gunshot was heard, and Peter's wife, Betty, and her teenaged daughter, Judy ran to the door to discover the shooter had already ran off and Peter was lying on his back.

Judy ran to the neighbours house, Bud Alper, who worked for the Los Angeles Police. In no time, officers were at the Fabiano's.

Peter was transferred to the Sun Valley Receiving Hospital where he later died from massive bleeding.

Peter was born in 1923, and after serving in World War II, was an extremely successful hairdresser in the area, and him and his wife Betty appeared to be a perfect couple, owning two beauty salons in LA. Betty claimed she was 36 years old and had two teenagers from a previous marriage. She had married Peter in 1955.

Betty had said that she, Peter and Judy had just went to bed shortly before the doorbell rang that night after 11pm. When Peter went to the door, Betty heard two adult voices, one that sounded masculine and the other sounded like a man impersonating a woman.

The murder of Peter Fabiano was known as the "Trick or Treat Murder" in the media, but who would commit this heinous crime?

A 43 year old woman named Goldyne Pizer was a medical secretary and described as "matronly." She graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1934 and had gotten married in the 1940's, but was either widowed or divorced it's unclear. In 1957, Goldyne met a 40 year old woman, Joan Rabel, who lived only 1 mile from Goldyne's house near the Sunset Strip in Hollywood.

Joan is more of a mystery. Some sources claim she was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and came to the US from Lithuania. Joan was a photographer and writer, often travelling to Hawaii for inspiration it's claimed. In 1957, Joan was also divorced and working for Peter Fabiano in his salon.

It was working for Peter that Joan met Betty, and the two hit it off. Joan considered herself a good friend to both Fabiano's. Eventually, Joan claimed that Betty told her Peter was abusive and controlling, and Joan began to obsess about the idea of getting Betty out of this life with Peter. Betty had even left Peter for a short period of time and stayed with Joan.

Joan would often discuss the Fabiano's to Goldyne, calling Peter "pure evil." The two would talk about Peter and Betty over coffee, and over a 3 month period, somehow, Joan had convinced Goldyne to become a hitwoman for her. She did not pay Goldyne for the actual hit, however she provided her money for a gun and borrowed a getaway car from another friend.

After the murder on Halloween, Goldyne was driven home by Joan who told her, "Forget you ever knew me."

On November 1, 1957, the next morning, Goldyne discovered she had not disposed of the gun, Joan had left those instructions out. Goldyne took the gun to Bullock's flagship store and put it in a storage locker.

It only took 2 weeks for the police to fnd this gun and question Goldyne, who confessed immediately. Both women were arrested for the murder.

In court, Goldyne was crying and showing obvious remorse, but Joan was stone cold, showing no emotion except for sometimes smiling. Goldyne plead not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming that Joan had cast some sort of spell on her that was impossible to resist.

On March 11, 1958, Goldyne and Joan pleaded guilty to second degree murder to avoid trial. Both women were sentenced to 5 years to life in prison, however no one knows how much time each of them served.

There are many rumours over this case and whether or not there was any lesbian relationships involved. Some believe that Joan and Betty's dynamic was strange, and the two were lovers. Others believe that Joan was in love with Betty, and needed to get rid of Peter as he was in the way. There has never been any definitive proof of this, and there's never been any proof that Peter was abusive to Betty.

It was claimed that Peter had asked Betty to end her friendship with Joan, which she did.

Goldyne died in 1998 in Los Angeles. Betty sold the beauty salon after Peter died and remarried in 1966. Betty died in 1999, at the age of 81 in Palm Desert, California. However, this age means that at the time of Peter's death Betty had been 39, not 36 like she claimed or those believed.

The real mystery is that no one knows what happened to Joan. She disappeared and no one was ever able to say where she went or who she became.
