What are you absolute favorite kylux fics 👀

Oh boy. This is a big question. I thought about it all day.

So of course, there are the big name stories:

Children Wake Up, by hollycomb - Classic Kylux. One of the stories that got me into the ship. It's an epic tale longer than War and Peace, and it's quite the ride.

Flyboys, by Gefionne - It's just incredible. I can't believe the attention to historical detail, and the fanart associated with this fic is just stellar (I'd recommend checking out @littleststarfighter). This story broke my heart and then put it back together.

In A Place Where No One Appeared, by Gefionne - I love the storyline, and this one just has...vibes.

Both of these authors have several other Kylux fics that are also fantastic reads.

Gravity Well, by kyluxtrashcompactor - This one is plot heavy, which is cool, and I feel they do an excellent job of making Hux *actually mean*, which I struggle with. The setting is also awesome.

Diplomatic Indulgence, by FridayIncarnate - I love this one. It's so well characterized. I love the plot, and the "feeling" of it is so very accurate all the way around.

FridayIncarnate has several more that I love, but if I'm only picking a couple more it would be these two:

Into Retrograde - A great, fun adventure, with some really cool zero-G sex. It's awesome.

Break the Lock if it Don't Fit - a short oneshot that is an excellent story. Makes you hope and wonder about the future.

Miscellaneous other pieces:

Acid Rain, by RyloKen - I love an author that isn't afraid to write a tragedy. Fucked me up and I love them for it.

Now Loading..., by fedaykin - A really cool original idea, further enhanced by the use of art. I was quite impressed.

Twice the Pride, Double the Fall, by squire- An excellent mix of sweet, rude, and smutty. Classic.

Smut fics that reveal my secrets:

Unbridled, by thesevioletdelights - Kylo goes wild, Hux reaps the benefits, and so does the reader.

They Don't Call it a Job for Nothing, by thesevioletdelights - Pure, delightful smut.

Alpha Dog and Omegalomaniac, by notlikelybut possible - If you're into A/B/O, this is a great one, and it also has fantastic fanart by one of my favorite artists of all time, @itssteffnow.

There are many more I have read, and many more I will read again. I hope I've provided you with enjoyable reading material in the same way that these fantastic writers have for me!

I think my favourite gag in Fire Meet Gasoline is Kylo just behind the scenes going lowkey crazy trying to keep tabs on his sister and just about murdering anyone who actually tries to kill her, and then refusing to believe she's with Poe because he's convinced that his bisexual sister is fully into girls because she had one girlfriend when she was like sixteen.

Hux is in his ear mad as hell because he got choked that one time he tried to take her out with a star destroyer "she and Dameron took out dozens of our troops-" and he's there just like "I don't care, if anyone so much as fires at her I want them brought to me."

Then he's there with files of Black Squadron after they have a couple meetings in the field going "I've sensed her emotions, she's in love with one of them and that is why she refuses to join me" and again Hux is there going "it's Dameron you fucking idiot" and Kylo's like "hmm, no trust me she's gay as hell. It's the blue chick we saw her with that one time, she's into the blue chicks"

So when he eventually has her as a prisoner, with Poe and Snap locked up elsewhere, he's interrogating her. She's expecting the typical "where's your base" and instead he just shoves a bunch of files in her face prepared to negotiate and goes "Which one is it, they can either come with you or I'll kill them, your choice." So naturally she's terrified because Poe's on board only for her to contemplate how much of an idiot her brother is when he's accusing her of being in love with just about everyone but Poe.

"Kun's too old for you, is it the blue one or the other one, if you come to the dark side you can keep your girlfriend and your droid" and she's just looking at him wondering how stupid he really is while he's fully convinced his plan is fool proof. This is occurring as Snap takes the opportunity of Poe being imprisoned to force him to admit how he actually feels about Hope.

“Just say it.”

“Say what?”

“You know what?”

“No- no now is not the time for an intervention!”

Then Kylo gets into her head to get an answer and he's just so disappointed, half because she fell in love with a flyboy and half because Hux was right.

Top five Poe moments? 👀

I've answered this one a couple of times, but I've recently (ish) rewatched majority of the trilogy so I'm going to focus on scenes from those (as opposed to stuff from books + comics)!

that slide around he does in the x-wing at the start of tlj to take out the tie fighters from behind is. needlessly hot. I made a very embarrassing noise watching it the other night.

when he properly meets rey for the first time! I love how damn soft he gets around her, to the point even his theme gets a softer variant in the moment, it's the sweetest thing 🫶

honestly just the whole opening of tlj with the call to hux, full stop. Rian Johnson described it as smth like "pure star wars" in a recent interview and I heartily agree, it's the funniest fucking thing. "Hugs, with an H? Skinny guy, kind of pasty" did you know I'm in love with Poe Dameron, did you....did you know that?

I've also been having feelings about the lightspeed skipping scene lately because I think it perfectly shows the difference in Poe and how much he's grown - he's still that reckless flyboy he's always been, but he's steering that recklessness away from fights he doesn't need to tackle. He doesn't even try to confront the squadron(s) of ties, he's entirely focused on getting away — but he's still Poe, so he's gonna run away from the bad guys in the most exciting fashion possible. (it also adds smth I think to his argument with Rey and his frustration that all they're focusing on is the state of the Falcon, cos he's more focused on the fact that he managed to get everyone back safe).

when he shows back up in tfa on takodana. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen that movie, I feel the same amount of excitement and wonder as I did the first time I watched it (if not slightly increased) when he shows up on screen for the first time since the tie fighter escape 🫶

1. Why don’t you ship it?

I don’t not ship it! I’ve mentioned before there’s not a lot I don’t ship, but I’ve never considered this one before and I don’t have much in the way of an opinion of it. I’ll answer the don’t ship questions but I’m not actively for or against.

2. What would have made you like it?

I do enjoy Bly a lot <3 people are welcome to try convincing me! I suppose I’ve just never been attached to Ponds (other than general sad vibes). If I had an emotional connection to him then I’d be all for it I’m sure :)

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Yes! Both are great characters. I think they have good potential camaraderie and kinship as fellow commanders.

Bobaleia: ship :)

1. What made you ship it?

Princess and the flyboy enemies to reluctant lovers but make the flyboy actually cool and competent.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Badass + hot (the usual). Rebel and bounty hunter, which is a fun kind of spicy :) Competence through the roof, though I think an “I don’t know what I’m fucking doing” improvising that gets results every time angle for both characters would be very fun too.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I propose we stop making Boba super buff and emotionless and dominant idk I’d like to see him less than absolutely certain, less than the perfect idealised “strong man” fandom seems to love him being. I think we could just chill out a bit.

Kylux: ship :)

1. Fuck knows. They hate each other and it’s funny as fuck. I probably only found it in the aftermath of TFA but I was like yeah cool I’ll take that.

2. Ohhhh they hate each other. Each has such a big chip on his shoulder about his father, whom he killed/kills (Hux did it better) and just. Drama. They really think they’re doing good work but they’re just asshole fascists and doomed to fail. Workplace hatefucking. Consensual workplace fuck buddy relationship that turned into a deep codependency and unwavering trust and now they’re past the point of no return there’s no way out. They’re a bit of a Greek tragedy and it’s quality entertainment.

3. I don’t know what fandom is doing with them and I still don’t really want to know! I don’t honestly think about them much so I couldn’t say I have a popular or unpopular opinion.

At least they were alone. If they hadn’t been.. well, he was already nervous enough. The way their relationship was progressing was entirely inappropriate. He had even considered asking to have Poe placed under someone else.

But-- ah, he knew from experience that another officer-- especially an older one-- wasn’t less likely to take advantage of the pilot. Which, when he thought about it, was really what he was doing, wasn’t it?! The whole thing set him on edge. 

He was worried the pilot could tell, if not from his posture then from the loud beat of his heart. Especially this close, crammed into an empty shuttle on the flight deck, a bottle of wine half empty at their feet. His lips were hovering over Dameron’s, his hands were wandering. “If I go to far,” he breathed, “tell me.” He’d said it already, he’d said it many times. But he had to say it one more time, before he leaned in and kissed him hard, kissing with an open mouth, with teeth and tongue. He wanted him so bad, and he was so tired of being good.

I’ve wanted to do fanart for Flyboys for a while, its still one of my top 5 favorite fics of all time. If you havn’t read Flyboys by the amazing  Gefionne yet, I can’t recommend it enough.
