I am just rediscovering this whole universe that was so important in my early childhood and am hyperfixated on it right now. I had almost entirely forgotten about it and watched the movie for the first time in about 13 years.
I am just now finding the community, which is everything to me right now because I know exactly three irl people who knew about it too, one of whom I showed the movie too. That’s so little, this is legitimately the most obscure fixation I’ve ever gotten.
As I am finding the community I am feeling less alone in my fixation and it’s great. But it comes with a price. The price being, apparently, discovering that there’s an american version of this movie full of pop culture references.
First of all what the fuck did they do with their voices. Did they even try ? The voice actors are good don’t get me wrong, but why does Dougal have a kid’s voice ? Why does Ermintrude have the heaviest fucking texan accent ??? I don’t know how the non-american english dub does it because I only know the original french version but please tell me their voices aren’t like that in english for the love of god.
Second thing, I legitimately have yet to decide if all the pop culture references are incredibly cursed or incredibly funny. The Matrix got me the hardest tbh.
I am still in awe with finding a Magic Roundabout community, but at what price.
I was today years old when I found out that the magic roundabout had a terrible American dub that's just full of random pop culture references
#just kidding finding this community is priceless to me#also the name changes got me cackling so hard#in the original french version Dougal is named Pollux#Florence is named Margote#Dylan is Flappy#Ermintrude is Azalée#Brian is Ambroise#Zebedee is Zébulon#and Zeebad is Zabadie#crying over Zebedee not being Zabadie’s english name tbh#the magic roundabout#rant#le manège enchanté

Name a woman
COD Men Headcanons
————
König
“King”
“Ja, meine liebe (yes, my love)?”
“Name a woman.”
“Name a woman? Why?”
“Just name one.”
“Okay…” he thought long and hard about naming someone. “Jennifer Coolidge.”
“JENNIFER COOLIDGE!!” Y/n laughs at him.
“What? I’m confused, you said to name a woman…is she not a woman?” König was confused.
“No, no, she is, but why her?” You continue to laugh.
“You said name a woman…so I did.”
✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤
Ghost
“SIMON!” You called from from the stairs running to the living room with your phone in hand.
“Huh?” He asks, looking over his shoulder as he was sitting on the couch but shifted a bit when you plopped down next to him.
“Name me a woman.”
“Huh?” He repeats. “Is this another TikTok trend?”
“No, no, just name me one,” you lied.
“Okay…” Simon looked up at the ceiling trying to think of a woman. “Julia Roberts.”
“Julia Roberts?”
“Yes!” He says, sounding offended a little bit.
“Is she prettier than me?”
“Oh I knew it, this is a trend, no you told me to name someone and I did!” He says.
“Then why her?”
“Seriously? This was a trap, I’m not answering,” he crosses his arms and faces the TV again.
“So *sobs* she is?” You cried.
“WHY ARE YOU CRYING?!” He asks cupping your face.
“B-Because *sob* she is prettier than m-me.”
“No, no, I just said because you asked me to, I think you are way hotter and sexier than her, hell I don’t have a shot with her and I’m surprised I had a shot with you.”
“Okay all better,” Y/n’s face was all red but when you said this your face was back at its normal state.
“Did I just get manipulated?”
✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤
Price
“PRICE!”
“Huh? WHAT?!” He yells and then hears your feet sticking to the hard wood floor and you come sitting next to him
“Name a woman.”
“Umm~ why?”
“Do it.”
“Florence Pugh.”
“Floren-huh? Why her?”
“You said name a woman and I did. I liked her in Blackwidow and Don’t worry darling.”
“Don’t worry darling is kind of mid.”
“You fuckin’ take that back.”
✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤
Soap
“Hey, Soap, can you do something for me real quick?”
“Yeah, sure anything love.”
“Name me a woman.”
“Uhh~ o-okay…Margot Robbie.”
“You only say her because you just saw Barbie.”
“AND SUICIDE SQUAD! And she’s a good actress and she is very pretty.”
“Prettier than me?”
“We’re are not starting this. You are prettier than anyone.”
“But you just called Margot Robbie pretty.”
“Because I don’t have a chance with her but you…WOO! I don’t know how I got you. You are WAY out of my league, sweetheart.”
✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤
Alejandro
"Amor, can you name me a woman please?"
"A woman...are you pregnant?"
"What? No, just name me a woman."
"Oh okay ummm~ Xochitl Gomez."
"Xochitl Gomez?!"
"Yeah, have you seen her on Dancing with Stars! Come on, she's amazing."
"Amazing?"
"W-Well-I-I-I-uhh~ she's not better than you, obviously," he nervously laughs, he knew this felt like some sort of trap.
"Well, I know that, and yes I have seen her dance," you said.
You stood up and looked like you were ready to do sombra, Alejandro chuckled and stood up with her ready to dance with her
✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤
Gaz
"KYLE!"
"Oh no, it's never good when you call me by my government name and not my codename."
"Yeah, yeah, listen," you plopped down on the couch next to him. "Name me a woman."
"Okay, Y/n."
"No, not me just anyone."
"Y/n."
"Huh? No, someone else."
"Why?"
"B-Because just name someone."
"No, I stick by my answer."
"What did you do?"
"Why do you assume I did something?" He laughs.
"I don't know? You just seem like you did something."
"I didn't do anything." He says giving her a soft smile.
"Okay...what do you want?"
"Nothing, I'm happy just where I am," he smiles at you.
You were still suspicious like he either did something or he wants something, as you walked out of the living room and out of sight Gaz grabs his phone.
"They did it." Gaz whispered-yelled into his phone.
"Did you stand strong?" Price asked.
"Of course, but they thought I did something."
"It was a trap, you did good solider," Ghost says.

Are the Evans team Barbie or team Oppenheimer?
It seems appropriate 😂
Barbie
Kit- Originally went to see Barbie because Julia wanted to but ended up loving it. Definitely cried. Loved seeing Barbie’s onscreen that looked like Julia, he could tell it made her happy. 100% had a crush on Margot Robbie after this.
Rory- Is actually one of the background Ken’s and won’t stop telling people. Drags all his friends and family to see it so he can point out himself in the background of a dance number for 10 seconds. Laughs out loud at every joke. Actively uses the phrase ‘Kenergy’.
Gallant- Barbie’s were his first subjects for styling hair so is super excited for the movie. Thinks he could have styled Margot Robbie’s hair better than the actual movie stylist. Everyone thinks he’s crushing on Ryan Gosling as Ken but he’s actually crushing on Michael Cera as Allan.
Peter- Knows all the words to I’m Just Ken. Has the Ken rollerblades and has attempted to run with them on but failed miserably. Is not ashamed to admit that he finds all of the Barbie’s attractive.
Oppenheimer
James- Actually remembers when the atomic bomb happened so is intrigued to see how they’ve translated it to film. Is disappointed that they don’t show the dead. Doesn’t understand why Oppenheimer feels guilty. Barbie is too bright, colourful and happy for him.
Kai- Barbie: a film about empowering women? Fuck that, Kai wants the movie with explosions. Pre-cult Kai would have cried seeing Florence Pugh naked. Considered changing his name from ‘Divine Ruler’ to ‘Death, Destroyer of Worlds’.
Barbenheimer
Tate- Really sees himself in Allen. Can relate to Oppenheimer’s guilt. Leaves both movies crying. Wants Ken’s hoodie that says “I’m Kenough”. Has an existential crisis leaving Barbie questioning who he is. Fears nuclear war after Oppenheimer.
Kyle- Did the Barbenheimer double bill. Secretly preferred Barbie to Oppenheimer but loved them both. Wore pink to Barbie. Gets excited every time he recognises an actor in Oppenheimer. Won’t shut up about both movies after he’s seen them and will fight people on the internet who insult them.
Jimmy- Team Barbie because he thinks every person in that movie is attractive. Team Oppenheimer because he actually loves a good biopic. Afterwards says he would definitely go to a Tupperware Party hosted by the Barbie’s.
Austin- Won’t stop talking about the Barbie soundtrack and costume design. Won’t stop talking about the theatrics of Oppenheimer. Won’t stop talking about Cillian Murphy’s eyes.
Colin- Empowering women!! Emily Blunt!! Colin definitely crushes on Emily Blunt and also loves a movie that empowers women so Barbie and Oppenheimer are his two perfect movies. Clapped at the end of both films.
•—————————————————————————•
Since I’ve seen both of the movies I thought this would be fun 🤭

poisoned book investigation update: i reached the part of queen margot that deals with the poisoned book and this only made me more convinced that this is indeed. what happened. back in 2010. because 1) i know my mother well and therefore know she would kin catherine de' medici (yes yes i know. i know. what can i say. she's insane. it's a family tradition) 2) in the novel, the book was poisoned by catherine herself (she conceived and carried out both the scheme and the execution herself), and meant to kill her political enemy and son-in-law (but ended up poisoning (and killing) her own son). the exact method of course would be unsuitable for my own mother to imitate as it is the exact same method used in the name of the rose (possibly where umberto eco got the inspiration from, actually?), therefore as i mentioned earlier impossible to recreate with the kind of paper my copy of the three musketeers was printed on. but. yeah. not that i had many doubts at this point anymore but this is really. convincing evidence. psychologically speaking.
like for the. catherine de' medici kin part:
my mother always loved her as a historical figure. we did visit a lot of historical castles and museums and all when i was a kid and she always had a marked preference for 1) the renaissance era and history 2) the medici family 3) catherine de' medici specifically. she admired her cunning and force of spirit and ambition and influence. #1 girlboss supporter (she did not support the. you know. religious massacres tho. she didn't think catherine was a great figure to emulate or whatever. but she admired her nonetheless)
as i've mentioned before, my mother has always been a wannabe italian. she's especially fond of the italian renaissance and in particular florence and its history. in the novel the fact catherine de' medici is florentine is a key part of her characterization
physically there seems to be a similarity? dumas doesn't actually describe his characters' appearance much, but from the few elements we get, it seems to fit (= pale, grey(?) eyes with a cold and cunning look, short and stout but pretty, white hands (that she takes great care of), short and stout (fat?) stature in general, blonde hair, small lips, imposing presence that makes other people immediately fall in line & scares them (she was very proud of that)). it's not much but knowing her she would jump to conclusions and want to really. Be Like Her
sorry i know how this sounds i KNOW you don't have to believe me but i swear this is all true. inherited insanity and all that. the true Drow Ass Family
#sorry it still hasn't fully. been. processed i think.#i mean at some point how. do you let that sink in. 'that' being 'my mother tried to poison me in a narratively-meaningful way when i was 11#the poisoned book saga#<- tag if you don't understand what the fuck i'm talking about and want to read up on the whole thing.#i do wonder how much time she spent planning and all like. 10 years old me listening intently to her lectures about catherine de' medici#in Blois castle and all the Loire castles (we visited them all over the course of summer 2008 i think). like <- clueless#she did always enjoy putting on a show and scattering tragic irony and double entendres and foreshadowing elements........#thank you mother for trying so bad to kill me that you inadvertently ended up making me become your number one nightmare: a poet.#... just like catherine de' medici tried to kill henri de navarre to prevent him from becoming the king despite The ProphecyTM#only to inadvertently kill her own son and therefore making him become the king Earlier Than Anticipated.#IT'S FUN HOW IT WORKS ISNT IT. THE NARRATIVE MOTHER. THE NARRATIVE!#saying that because i am not completely insane (yet) and the whole. fighting against a prophecy thing? is something that they did For Real#which i got from their OWN ADMISSION when i was 17. btw. not something i made up or anything. they literally are like that.#i inherited the Perception Of The Narrative And Fate And Its Patterns And Cycles. as a family curse. this is very much a literal&cold fact.#anyway.

base lore (tw: extreme child neglect/abuse): after 4 years on the run, Will and Hannibal had found rest in a cozy rule community in Oregon where no one knew their faces. Hannibal made small talk and good company with the neighbors well will kept to himself, enjoying being back in a rustic environment. Hannibal had noticed one particular rude couple that was at all the local gatherings. snobbish and vain and already tried to show off to the locals who couldn't give two shits. Hannibal snooped around and heard though gossip that no one liked them and wish they would just move out.....well they could make that happen. Hannibal and will plan hunts regularly but haven't since they moved and settled. no one close had caught their eye and everyone on Hannibal's wheel where too far away. so to say they were eager to go hunting again was an understatement. after a gruesome hunt later, the two decided to wander and snoop around their home. a horrid minimalist Vila that ruined any natural view from the snowy mountains.. ...that's when they found child clothes. ratty and old. unwashed.....where where the kids??? these two NEVER mentioned or brought up having kids. was never seen with kids.....this completely blindsided the two and they felt the need to leave fast. as they carefully walked out the back door and into a more abandoned backward, left to be ruined as it covered in snow. will would spot a lone dog house in the corner of the yard....great a dog too....if he was careful, he could check and leave.... what he found wasn't a dog.....he found the kids. two girls. one around six with dark curls clinging and keeping a 4 year old with snowy blonde hair warm in a tattered blanket. the older one..... barked at him and started to cry, scared of the new adult. will was dumbfounded and his heart ached. he couldn't leave them here. they couldn't leave them here. he called Hannibal over and they both carefully and slowly got the two out and into their bloodied arms. the girls didn't seem to care after a while. the youngest still fast asleep and the other having relaxed and confused by the loving embarrass. it took a while, some discreet clothes shopping and getting back into contact with Chiyoh to baby sit but eventually the kids got used to giving in a warm, safe home. it was a struggle at times but they got used to it easier then expected. the two men had no idea what their names were so made a list of masc and fem names to give the 6 year old a choice then the three could rename the youngest together. the oldest didn't remember their name or refused to say it. they seemed very eager to get a new one. after being read the names a few dozen times, all rather fancy and complicated for the young kid to say, he eventually settled on Felix. it was easy and they were very fond of it. the men then asked if they were a boy or girl. they knew the answer biologically but wanted the kids answer "i don't know....i just like that name." well that settles that. they wouldn't pin any pronouns on Felix. they didn't seem like the type to care, as long as it wasn't stuffy. now into the little one. she was too young to have a say but felix really wanted to name her. despite not liking the really long stuffy names for themselves, they quickly picked the longest and stuffiest name on the lift for his sister: Florence, a name on there for obvious reasons. "sounds like...um...a princess name. and my sister is one!" was all the two men got out of Felix and they were overjoyed at the pick. it fit the little angel very well. the rest of the lore spittles out here. they get comfortable and become very happy kids. in some universes they are never caught, in most they are and are raised by Alana and Margot for a while till their dads break out again. Felix and Florence resents Alana for taking them away but only Felix is vocal about it. Florence has their papa's fake politeness.
Felix Lecter-Graham when found: 6 ages in timeline: 6-24 depending on where i like to think/write. gender: NB he/him likes: punk music, camping, wilderness, drawing, cartoons, junk food (don't tell Hannibal) dislikes: loud sudden noises, weird textures, being forced into a box, spicy food.
Felix is my main oc and the oldest of the two. spunky and outgoing but can be rather crude. supports their dads fully and tries not to care about others options. very protective of their sister and family. gets a lot of snarky rudeness from will but love of the arts from Hannibal. stubborn and refuses to see reason once in a thought path. spits in the faces of those who try to make them see reason and will very shamelessly joke about horrid acts. they have very little filter.
Florence Lecter-Graham when found: 4 ages in timeline: 4-22 (2 years younger then Felix) gender: she/her mainly feminine nb (only likes Felix calling them their sister. hates formal 'women' 'ma'am' 'lady' unless its from family) likes: flowers, classical music, overgrown gardens, also punk music, dislikes: big industrial cities, cars, very picky with food and isn't fond of meats (this was a struggle in the household. Hannibal had to change his cooking style a lot to please this baby. i see Florence going full vegetarian as an adult to avoid the texture issue all together. really enjoys blood though and that's the cannibal loop hole that pleases everyone.)
the sweeter and more "palatable" younger sister who fully gained her papa's sickly cocky politeness. shes just as snarky as Felix but would rather say things with a smile and a bow then outright an insult. loves her family just as much as Felix but tries to play along and agree with others around more antagonistic company. kill them with kindness is her method.

'In one corner, veteran heavyweight Christopher Nolan. In the other, nimble visionary Greta Gerwig. Their big films come out on the same day – but whose will triumph at the box office?
We live in divisive times. Opinion is more tribal and entrenched than ever, the value of reasoned argument and willing compromise plummeting by the day. This volatility could spread to the multiplex next month, where a battle of the blockbusters is destined to make previous cinematic standoffs – Mothra v Godzilla, Alien v Predator, Kramer vs Kramer – look like games of playground pat-a-cake. Get ready, then, for Barbie v Oppenheimer.
Directed by celebrated auteurs (Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan respectively), and hyped by multiple trailers over the past year, both movies are scheduled to open on the same crowded day. Forget your QR codes: this is one time to buy a physical ticket and save the stub to show your grandchildren. Future generations will want to know where you stood on 21 July 2023 when Barbie met the bomb.
In the pink corner is Gerwig’s DayGlo toy story starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, who while away their days happily but vacuously in Barbie-land. In a plot apparently borrowed from Enchanted and The Purple Rose of Cairo, with a dash of Don’t Worry Darling, they swap their cosseted fairytale existence for our harsh modern world. (The trailer shows Barbie having her police mugshot taken after walloping a Venice Beach groper in the face.) The cast incorporates hot young things Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Jamie Demetriou and, most excitingly, the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, as well as old hands Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon and Will Ferrell; Helen Mirren is on narrating duties.
The 39-year-old Gerwig is arguably as big a selling point as Robbie or Gosling, as well as a guarantor of quality control. The three-time Oscar nominee directed Lady Bird and Little Women, as well as co-directing with Joe Swanberg the long-distance love story Nights and Weekends, back in the days when she was the doyenne of the lo-fi indie “mumblecore” movement. Her co-writer on Barbie is her partner, the director Noah Baumbach, with whom she wrote gems such as Frances Ha and Mistress America. Back in 2010 when she was promoting Greenberg, the bittersweet Baumbach comedy which became her Hollywood springboard, she spoke of her childhood habit of jumbling up the letters in her name: “In second grade, I’d be writing ‘Great Gerwig, Great Gerwig’ on everything,” she said. These days, it’s more than just an anagram.
Her opponent is the 52-year-old Nolan, a five-time Oscar nominee who has heft on his side. His is the weightier directing CV (12 films), with Oppenheimer his longest yet: he recently confirmed that it is “kissing three hours”, which makes it more than an hour longer than Barbie. This is serious, spectacular event cinema, shot with Imax cameras and booked long ago into all that format’s venues – to the apparent chagrin of Tom Cruise, whose latest Mission: Impossible adventure opens a week earlier but will be relegated to smaller screens the instant Oppenheimer drops.
Nolan’s cast is every bit as impressive as Gerwig’s; as well as the perpetually haunted Cillian Murphy as the physicist Robert J Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb, Nolan has assembled Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Robert Downey Jr, Gary Oldman and Kenneth Branagh. The chances of any of them rollerblading à la Gosling in Barbie are negligible, which may help explain why Gerwig’s film is on track to have the more impressive opening weekend. Not that Oppenheimer will exactly bomb.
Barbie also has the edge when it comes to marketing opportunities, as might be expected of any movie adapted from merchandise. This goes way beyond the valley of the dolls: among the many tie-in products is an inflatable Barbie pool-float golf-cart, a Barbie dog’s basket, and an electric toothbrush capable of 36,000 sonic vibrations a minute – the same effect you get from watching Oppenheimer in Imax.
Unlike Barbie, Nolan’s film probably doesn’t have its own Exclusive Oral Beauty Partner, though given his protagonist’s chain-smoking tendencies there may be a teeth-whitening deal in the offing. And we shouldn’t rule out Oppenheimer throwing its hat in the ring when it comes to headgear. As far back as 2010, one plaintive user on thefedoralounge.com was searching “for a lid like the one the famous nuclear physicist wore,” citing a “2½-inch snap brim and a very thin ribbon” and concluding that “such a hat would be positively atomic”. Factor in the Cillian Murphy effect – this is the man who helped popularise the Peaky Blinders newsboy cap/undercut combo – and the Oppenheimer fedora and brown wool coat could be the look to replace Barbie’s summery pink once the nippier months roll around.
Some mild shade has already been thrown between the film’s respective camps on social media. “Greta Gerwig could do Oppenheimer but Christopher Nolan couldn’t do Barbie,” observed one tweet. Another overreached by proposing that “Margot Robbie could do Oppenheimer but Cillian Murphy couldn’t do Barbie” – clearly the work of someone who has never seen him in Breakfast on Pluto or Peacock. But the encouraging thing about the Barbie v Oppenheimer discourse is that, by and large, it has not followed the contours that often prevail in our online interactions. For anyone who loves cinema, the vibe feels closer to a cuddle than a cage fight.
There is real genius in this tactic of opening films catering for different audiences on the same day (known as counter-programming). The canny part is not what separates Nolan and Gerwig but what unites them: despite a clear contrast of style and sensibility, both directors possess a comparable skill, intelligence and passion, and tend to inspire loyalty in their fans. This same situation could never have arisen had Oppenheimer been pitted against, say, The Super Mario Bros Movie. Though that film is a smash, having grossed more than $1bn worldwide to date, it has nothing in it to propel cultural conversation along with profits.
Opening two films together that share similar DNA would also produce less of a spark. The experience of going to an afternoon screening of Ghostbusters on opening day in December 1984, then coming out and going straight back in to see Gremlins at teatime, was thrilling for my friends and me as 13-year-olds (especially as Gremlins was rated 15), but it was a routine sort of double bill on reflection: both were comedies that trafficked in the scary or supernatural.
What makes the combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer sing is that it is unlikely but not nonsensical. And though the films’ subjects are markedly different, there will be some overlap between their audiences. The major Rorschach test of our era, one Twitter user has suggested, will be whether you follow Oppenheimer with Barbie or vice versa. It’s no longer the case of “either/or” that it first appeared to be but rather “which one first?”. The Picturehouse chain is even extending the double bill idea by screening a selection of both directors’ past work in the coming weeks; audiences can see Lady Bird take flight alongside Interstellar, or pair Little Women and Dunkirk in a double bill of wartime stories, albeit from different wars.
Contrary to the way the rivalry was initially framed, this is no replay of the hostile Blur v Oasis Britpop war of the mid-1990s. Even the formulation of Barbie v Oppenheimer misrepresents the tenor of this unusual pairing: shouldn’t it be the more harmonious Barbie x Oppenheimer, in the style of today’s brand collaborations? Whichever film prevails financially, the result will be less meaningful to audiences than what these movies represent in a post-pandemic landscape that has seen famished exhibitors begging for new product.
Next month’s clash only came about in the first place because of Nolan’s commitment to cinemas over streaming. He would likely have set up Oppenheimer at his usual home, Warner Bros, had that studio not instigated a policy in 2021 (no longer in force today) of releasing its films simultaneously in cinemas and on HBO Max, in response to uncertainty during the pandemic. (Nolan, remember, had ruled out a streaming release for his previous film, Tenet, back in 2020 when cinema exhibition was at its most precarious.) Warner Bros still hopes to woo him back. Barbie is a Warners film, and if the studio had been distributing both pictures, they would never have let them go out on the same day. But Nolan took Oppenheimer to Universal – hence the scheduling pile-up.
No matter. The impact of Covid and the streaming revolution have been bruising, even in some cases annihilating, to parts of the industry. But contrary to the tagline from Alien Vs Predator – “Whoever wins … we lose” – the outcome of Barbie opening in lockstep with Oppenheimer can only be positive. Whichever one triumphs, cinema rules.'
