I know Ted said that he broke up with Heather in 4x12, but Alexis also said that she closed a very important chapter with Ted *last week, in the same episode. Which meant it had been a week since Alexis confessed her feelings to him. I always wondered how long it took between hearing her confession and singles week for Ted to break up with Heather. Do you think he did it right away, like after he was left speechless in the vet's clinic and he just came clean to Heather when he went home, or do you think he took a couple of days to sort out his feelings for both women, and to see if he really wanted to put his heart on the line again for Alexis? What do you think? Ps. the timeline in sc always confuses me a bit lol....

ohhhh, an excellent discussion point, friend! (and, to be quite honest, one that had never dawned on me until now!) here’s my first instinct re: this!

to me, the most logical scenario would be that alexis does her big feelings reveal on a friday afternoon, with the singles’ week episode picking up/singles’ week starting that monday. i would assume ted would need to contemplate a little (not a lot, because this is alexis, after all) what with having put as much effort into moving past their first round as he did. i think a weekend would be sufficient to do all the soul-searching he needed to. that could just be me, though. and, yes, the timeline is so flooey most of the time, i don’t even know ahahaha.

Okay but the way Ted always appreciated Alexis' gestures. Even if they don't necessarily cheer him up or end up being something sweet, like bringing him alles-vous products that he probably won't use to apologize for being rude to him, or bringing him coffee for a busy work day, but not decaf. Or having his favourite cheat meal made for him, but forgetting that hours ago, he had food poisoning from bad milk. Like she does things with the best of intentions for him, and even if the execution of those intentions never land, Ted always tells her that it was a sweet gesture. He always appreciates anything she does and never lets her feel like her efforts are for nothing and Alexis wasn't wrong when she said he was the sweetest man she's ever known. I need a Ted Mullens too...

i like to think ted understands where alexis started and chooses to look at her efforts to be better and grow rather than highlight any minor snafus that may accompany her attempts. plus, ted is very similar to alexis in this respect. the twig pencil - while a seriously nice gesture, and a detail that bloomed into an entire fic of mine - wasn’t exactly the most practical gift - in light of who he was giving it to.

and, yes, ted and alexis really are/were greatttt for each other - once everyone got themselves together and whatnot :D!

TNG: “Timescape”

Captain Picard, Lt. Commander Data, Counselor Troi, and Lt. Commander La Forge return from a conference to find the Enterprise and a Romulan warbird frozen in time.

I really dig the use of the Danube-class runabout in this episode.  Usually Star Trek: The Next Generation would have characters returning from a field trip like this aboard a shuttlecraft, but that would have been pretty cramped for all the scenes of four characters discussing the plot.  Fortunately, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had recently introduced the runabouts so that show could focus on a space station but still have some means of long-range transportation.  Presumably all runabouts have (or can have) the substantial living space we see here, although on Deep Space Nine we rarely got to see anything but the cockpit.

The bubbles of time running faster or slower than normal is kind of a goofy premise--it’s fun watching the “frozen” actors wobbling a little, and Picard’s smiley face is classic--but it manages to be a surprisingly novel take on time travel.  To prevent the Enterprise from exploding, Picard and company don’t  much go backward in time so much as they make time go forward in reverse.  So the explosion happens, then un-happens, then happens differently, sort of like mashing Ctrl-Z on a text editor and then mashing Ctrl-Y to “replay” to a desired point.  This would seem to have advantages over the usual techniques for changing history, and I’m surprised it hasn’t come up more often in Star Trek.

The agenda of the aliens disguised as Romulans is frustratingly unclear.  We���re told they accidentally laid their space-eggs in the warbird’s engine core, which broke the whole ship.  The Enterprise tried to help with a power transfer beam, but this made time go flooey and imperiled the space-babies, so at least two of these aliens assumed Romulan form to intervene.  One stayed on the warbird to open fire on the Enteprise, to stop the power transfer.  The other...I guess she was evacuated to the Enterprise with the Romulan crew, but I don’t understand why she was in sickbay, or how she caused the heavy weapons fire seen on the bridge.  Stranger still, she attacks Data when he tries to stop the power transfer, even though that’s exactly what the male alien told him to do.  Then she and the whole warbird vanish at the end, like the writers were all “we would explain all that, but oops, we’re outta time, folks!”

If I recall correctly, Marina Sirtis is especially proud of the line where Troi tells the science boys how the Romulan engine works.  Basically she feels her dialogue got smarter right after she started wearing an actual uniform in “Chain of Command, Part I.”  I’m certainly in favor of Troi getting to do more than stand around being out of her element, but I find that specific instance rather odd.  Yes, she spent time on a warbird in “Face of the Enemy,” but she wasn’t exactly in a position to study the ship’s propulsion system.  I prefer her quick thinking when La Forge is gravely injured, because it’s less about technical know-how and more about quickly making the big decision.  It’s a move they might write for Commander Riker, and feels more in line with her evolution as an officer.

Ok, I meant to post this a while ago, but like usual, I forgot. I mention Flooaina and the flooies in that lore post, but I didn't actually show what they looked like.

Queen Flooaina looks different from other flooies because that's just how royalty looks like for their species. She is the ruler of the flooies and cares deeply for her subjects, although she gets annoyed by their incompetence sometimes.

And this is what a generic Flooey looks like. Despite not having arms, they can still hold things like spears, which they use when guarding the castle.
