'Faux Body Ornaments' jewelry store - 7309 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles CA (1986)
Designed by Solo Productions (Laura Solow), winged horse sculpture by W.J. Evans
"The original space, a large room, bare but for two Georgian columns and an archway, provided an empty canvas for Solow. The jewelry offered - gold mesh chains, twined metallic ropes, hanging crystals - pointed Solow in the direction of fantasy. Faux presents the visitor with a complete "planet-scape," an environment with elements of the past and the future, joining to create a sense of fairytale timelessness. The graphic image that serves as the repeated theme and the store's logo, a full moon split by a bolt of lighting, is the basis for an almost narrative design. Further back in the store is the most prominent element, mounted on the same wall as the archway: a gauze-winged horse in flight appears to be leaping out of the mountains. Solow explains that this is the narrative aspect of the store; the horse represents the muse, and has entered our world."
Scanned from the July 1986 issue of VMSD Magazine
Note: Melrose Avenue was a hotspot for amazingly creative and playful design in the 80s and 90s, I'm working to collect as many interiors and storefronts from that era as possible.

across the spider-verse characters, but as flight rising dragons
𝟣. miles morales: obsidian/sanguine/ruby
2. gwen stacy: orca/magenta/magenta
3. pavitr prabhakar: crimson/oilslick/vermilion
4. hobie brown [wildclaw] [ridgeback]: crimson/garnet/obsidian
edit: someone on discord made a good point that hobie shouldnt be the most expensive kind of dragon, so i added a ridgeback alt version! f pose ridgeback, since theres apparel layering issues on the m pose
5. miguel o'hara: sapphire/garnet/ruby
6. jessica drew: vermilion/obsidian/oilslick
7. peter b. parker: sapphire/vermilion/vermilion
---------------------
design notes about the scries, below the cut:
𝟣. miles morales
the patterns from his genes already reflected miles' spider-suit patterns well, so his scry doesnt have a lot of apparel
the bewitching ruby pendants represents his spider logo
2. gwen stacy
gwen has runes tert, because there werent any suitable pink glove apparels (the peony ones dont match well)
i considered giving the scry banana noxtide as a secondary to mimic her hair's pink hairlights, but it didnt mesh well
3. pavitr prabhakar
i couldn't figure out how to represent pavitr's spider logo, so i just gave his scry a necklace in lieu of it
the "navy bandana" was way too big and the color didnt match, so i opted for the "sky blue fillet" to represent his headband
4. hobie brown
hobie's scry/outfit was surprisingly easy to come up with, and was the first one i did
he gets a lute because theres no guitar apparel
his patchwork secondary represents his collage art style
5. miguel o'hara
i chose banescale for miguel, as his spider-suit is so simple/streamlined that it wouldnt translate well to apparel + skeletal tert being spiky is reminiscent of his arm spikes
[insert steven universe joke here about his colors being sapphire/garnet/ruby]
6. jessica drew
i thought about representing jessica's motorcycle with the "flameforger crucible" or "igneous iguana" apparels, but they were too bulky unfortunately
vermilion skink doesnt have her exact shade of yellow, but is close enough that oilslick peacock's yellow accent color balances it out visually
7. peter b. parker
fissure secondary represents the spider web pattern on peter's spider-suit
i know his slippers are supposed to be blue, but the "mage's peony socks" looked better here
the bookworm plushie is a stand-in for mayday
if youve made it to here, feel free to comment which fandragon scry is your fav! :)

The Pitstop
It was a normal day at the Justice League Watchtower Satellite. Heroes were milling about, Batman was monitoring Earth from the deck, there was an astronaut tapping on the glass, Flash was joking with Martian Manhunter...
What, what was that 3rd thing?
Batman looked up and saw in front of his view of Earth was an astronaut, wearing NASA's latest suit design. He stood up which alerted Flash and Martian Manhunter to the strange sight.
He tensed as the astronaut began to phase through the walls and entered the deck. Batman was able to activate the intruder alarm when the astronaut removed their helmet.
The astronaut was a caucasian male approximately in his early forties. There were bags under his blue eyes like many of his own cohorts, and he had black hair as well.
"We need to dock."
"Excuse me?"
"Who are you?" asked Martian Manhunter.
The astronaut's face brightened immediately upon noticing Martian Manhunter. "Oh! I'm part of the manned Mars mission! We just launched and were on our way, but something is making a weird noise, and we don't know what it is. Since we're so close, can we just dock one of your garages so we can figure out what it is and fix it?"
Batman recalled that NASA had launched less than a few hours ago.
"How did you get through the glass?" asked Flash.
"I'm the token metahuman crewmember. So can we dock or not?"
"Of course," said Martian Manhunter, looking at Batman. And what was Batman supposed to say? No?
In the parking garage, Martian Manhunter was talking the other crewmembers while the Watchtower's engineers and the metahuman astronaut, who they learned was named Danny Fenton, inspected the space shuttle and tried to figure out what was making the strange noise.
Batman watched from the sidelines as the others bustled about. They had been at it for an hour, and Batman wondered if he should ask Tim to come by and help. He had informed Tim of the development while the astronauts were docking. After all, he had been involved in some of the designs of this particular spacecraft that were done by Wayne Aerospace.
He was doubtful that Tim could help that much. After all, in all likelihood it wasn't something he designed that was the problem.
Then, one of the engineers fiddled with something and Batman suddenly heard loud rattling.
A crewmember who was listening to Martian Manhunter startled and their eyes widened. "That's it! That's the sound!"
"What it that?" asked Batman.
The engineer pulled out a piece of equipment that had the Wayne Enterprise logo on it. "This module is broken," she said, "it could be repaired but honestly," she inhaled sharply, "this thing is a hot mess."
Mr. Fenton jumped and landed on the ship like the artificial gravity didn't affect him. When he saw the logo on the broken equipment, he shook his fist at the sky.
"Of course it's something by Wayne Industries! We give them half our budget hoping they're share some cool alien inspired technology like whatever they did to build this satellite and instead we get half-assed garbage!"
Batman made a point to not share the latest gadgets with the US government (he didn't trust them), but he wouldn't call their products that weren't built using alien tech garbage. That seemed a little harsh.
"Seriously, was the person who designed this sleep-deprived when they made this?" Suddenly Batman found the walls and floor to be incredibly interesting and looked away.
"Oh that's par for the course when it comes to the stuff they give us."
"I am so sorry."
As they discussed how to improvise a replacement for the equipment quickly enough to avoid drastically altering the astronaut's flight path, Batman got a text from Tim.
So I'm free now. Did the astronauts figure out what was wrong or do they need me? - RR
He texted back.
They figured it out. The engineers have it handled. - B

Continuing to fire on all cylinders to make this Sky 🤝Mononoke collab a reality! 🐲⚖️🌊
Process GIFs and artist commentary below the cut. ⬇️
Left: Process GIF Middle: Just the background, cos I really like how it looks! Right: Illustration without the collab logo
And here are my notes on my inspirations and references. There's a lot of 'em, so instead of embedding relevant images one by one I put them in a callout sheet! For accessibility, I also included transcript (with bonus ramblings) below each sheet.
Ofuda circle modeled in Google Sketchup 2017, then lightly transformed in Photoshop to flare out. I tried my best to hand-draw these, but it the results came out really clunky and stiff. I figured if Mononoke shamelessly utilizes 3D in their show, I can too!
Krill and sky kid composition roughly inspired by the Ayakashi DVD cover illustration. On the surface level, the krill's black-and-red color scheme mirrored that of the bake-neko. Not to mention, in the world of Sky, the krill would be the best fit of a mononoke-like entity. The red background is also a nod to the red skies seen during a shard eruption in Sky.
Sky kid gesture based on the Festival Spin Dancer's Tier 3 poses and the Medicine Seller's iconic pose in the Zakishiwarahi episode as inspiration. This was the idea which springboarded this illustration into existence. I wanted to do my take of the Medicine Seller's pose, but in a more dynamic manner: rotate the pose to a profile position and set the ofuda in a diagonal, flared out arrangement.
Cape inspired by tenbin design featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie. This one's an interesting one - I wanted the cape to be a stiff material that doesn't "flap" when in flight - similar to the Aurora wing capes. It ended up looking like a kite of sorts, which I'm not entirely opposed to! I haven't had the opportunity to showcase the back view of this cape design, but I envision it having some mechanical aspects to it - the "wing" which are flared out in this illustration fold in like moth wings, and a little bell is attached to the "tail" part and it jingles a little whenever the sky kid flaps!
Bandana is based on the Scaredy Cadet's hairstyle from the Season of Assembly. Mask design utilizes the 2023 Days of Style mask and the Nintendo Pack mask as bases. Pretty self-explanatory. I basically went onto the Sky wiki and found the cosmetics that most closely matched what I was looking for. Then if necessary, I went to the Office space to do photoshoots to get the appropriate camera angles for them all.
Seasonal pendant inspired by the classic Medicine Seller's necklace and the eye motif featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie. Possibly the only one-to-one homage to the classic Medicine Seller design here, but his garnet necklace was too good of a match to the seasonal pendant. A side tangent: does the new Medicine Seller possess a necklace, let alone a mirror? So far all the shots of him don't feature it. Fascinating.
Dark dragon krill anatomy references a custom figurine crafted by @/escaflowne_n07 on Twitter. Until I found this, I was honestly at a loss finding reference for this - be it on the internet or during in-game photoshoots. The lighting on the krill in-game focused on its menacing silhouette rather than its structure. And not to mention, getting a close-up shot almost always set off the dark creature's aggro. I have no idea how this guy found the references to put this model together - well done!
Mantas, elder constellations, and sun dog references murals in the Cave of Prophecy. Krill aside, the overall illustration was leaning a little too much towards Mononoke so I tried finding opportunities to insert more Sky into it. Added bonus is that now there's storytelling in the background: during a shard eruption, a giant krill rises from the frothing waves of dark water to hunt down a flock of mantas.
Clouds behind the sun dog reference the ones featuring heavily in the Umibozu episode. This illustration has a lot of ocean theming, so I figured this would be appropriate.
Rendering style of the background is lightly inspired by the 2007 Mononoke illustration. Mainly having a 2D inked style to contrast with the more polished render of the sky kid. Funnily enough, this was a tertiary inspiration, which lead to the discovery in the next point!
Dark water waves and sun dog composition heavily references Hokusai's "The Great Wave". The waves were modified to be bottle-green of the Golden Wasteland's dark waters. The sun dog is in the spot where Mt. Fuji is in the original composition. these were all hand-drawn by the way! I merely emulated the style of the source material. As a side note, I also borrowed the spotted sea spray rendering for the krill's red spotlight.
Background pattern taken from the ofuda design featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie poster. Mainly to add some gritty texture to the sky. I worked pretty hard to replicate this ofuda design as a high-res asset so I wanted to use it more!

prefacing this by saying it's obviously just my opinion, but i've spent soo much time thinking about what makes an eiffel design look the Most Eiffel to me, personally, so here are some design notes:
dark, wavy/curly hair. unkempt. anywhere between just past his ears to about shoulder length. usually tied back in a low ponytail.
scruffy!! never, ever clean shaven. his facial hair is most prominent on his chin, and there's a visible break between the hair on his upper lip and the hair on his cheeks. stubble, short/patchy beard, or hair just on his chin all work well depending on style.
visible arm hair!! and any other body hair that's relevant. generally hairy guy. anything that makes him scruffier looking is important.
long features - long face, long limbs. lanky body type, but with a bit of weight in the gut. bad posture. talks with his hands. wide, open body language: tall-ish with fairly broad shoulders, but most of the space he takes up is in his limbs so he can kind of comically fold narrowly into himself when scared / being yelled at / etc.
(classic Doug Eiffel Arms Behind Head While Leaning Back and Floating pose is always a winner.)
expressive, to kind of an absurd degree. tired eyes. lopsided smile. his eyebrows do a lot of the work: i often see people instinctively draw eiffel with sheepish "─┘└─" shaped eyebrows and it's very real to me. constantly hamming it up even when he doesn't mean to. he has the presence of a class clown that never grew out of it.
prominent nose, kind of "square rounded" in shape with a wider tip <- same as zach valenti's. i wouldn't say he looks exactly like zach valenti to me, but definitely very close, with a difference more in style than features. italian-american by association...?
generic star wars logo tee as his default outfit, but other generic logo tees for things he likes, or "undershirt worn as shirt" also feel true. the key point is that it has to look like he bought it at walmart for less than ten dollars. will wear it until it disintegrates.
not really a guy who accessorizes either, unless wearing his headphones around his neck counts.
rarely wearing shoes. holes in every single one of his socks.
orange is my preferred flight suit color for how it visually suggests eiffel traded one prison for another. needless to say, maybe, he should never be wearing it properly. usually tied around his waist, but he pretty much never wears long sleeves - even if he has the sleeves on, they're always rolled way up.
#wolf 359#w359#doug eiffel#i'm sure i have others but these are most of the key ones. in my opinion. sometimes i wish i didn't have such a set image#because i feel kinda guilty whenever i see otherwise nice art but i'm like oh... why did you shear him... <- most common reaction#and it makes me seem a little insane. but on the other hand. i think it's really fascinating#how consistently people tend to draw eiffel like wow is zach valenti a guy who looks exactly how he sounds. it's uncanny.#on the other hand my only strong hera design opinions are: aquiline nose. generally angular. shoulder length hair worn more to one side.#someday i'll learn to draw. maybe.

posted about this brand before but it’s here once more and it’s interesting cause xz wore it in his personal time — at the airport. i guess most of us have seen their “uniform” going back to beijing from their respective work engagements. the simple shirt + bucket hat and how they look so similar. it’s not even the cpf in me talking. it’s there for everyone to see. this is yet another example of how they can blend in and fool others if needed. if it is true that they visit each other on set, then it will be easier. xz’s flight was also allegedly 4 hrs delayed but he still pushed through, wanting to go home. bless Beijing!
anyway, going back to the brand + xz shirt from heurueh.
well to me the logo and design looks like a pretzel or some kind of pastry. lol. which makes sense for xz to like it. also how it looks like the ♾️ sign, that we tied to cpns before and also appears to have xx in it.
this is also a unisex shirt and the product name is boyfriend T.
oh. okay. 👀

Lost & Found
♥ ♥ Joseph Quinn x Fem!Reader
Summary: You take a little break, a week away to somewhere warm to relax and calm your senses. So does Joe – same flight, same hotel, same travel plans and, worst of all, same suitcase. What was meant to be a lovely trip to the sun starts off on the wrong foot when you find expensive designer outfits belonging to a man in what you thought was your suitcase.
CW / disclaimer: rpf, fem!reader, lots of swearing, we get a little spicy but nothing too bad, 18+ just in case though!
Author’s note: i know i already said we were going at a slower pace, but, i really meant it - ive got too much other things going and i apologise! part four might take EVEN LONGER ive got a busy month coming up, so we'll see how it goes! thanks for being patient with me <333
Wordcount: 4.3K
part one - part two - part three - part four - part five
Your breath hitched as your fingers twitched with need of a self-destruct button when you saw him.
Swimming shorts, black. The ones you’d had in your hands two days before. Linen shirt, short sleeves, beige – unbuttoned. It was one of the things you’d tried on. Your friend had said it looked like a pyjama top on you. You were glad to learn it did not look like a pyjama top on him.
Sunglasses. Black, dark, and designer if you were to go by the large metallic logos on the sides.
Hair sort of all over the place, like he hadn’t touched it after rolling out of bed this morning. Book in hand, paperback, folded corners and broken spine.
If you were honest, it was kind of a vibe. Until you panned down, and...
Loafers.
You hoped that the glare of the sun didn’t turn your sunglasses transparent enough for Joe to notice you weren’t looking at your phone screen when you saw him step out and enter the pool area.
He walked past a couple of sun loungers that had towels on but seemed otherwise fairly abandoned. The pool was empty, the water too cold to casually dip into, so the towels probably belonged to people who dumped them there before breakfast, just to ensure they’d have a space of their own in the sun later.
Well, it was later now, and had there been no empty sun loungers free of towels, you’d have tossed a random one to claim as your own. Like the one right next to you. Just a big white towel from the hotel on an empty sun lounger that seemingly belonged to no one.
You saw Joe get closer and closer until you realised that he seemed to be coming right over to you.
Maybe he’d seen you and was now just there to come and tell you that he needed his jacket back. The one he gave you last night. The one you were meant to return to room 907. The one you still had up in room 1103.
Listen, it had gotten late. And you’d gotten too tipsy.
You also weren’t sure if you’d remembered 907 correctly, and, what if he was asleep already, you know? You decided after having your 6th drink poured into a plastic cup that you’d bring Joe his jacket tomorrow.
Maybe just after breakfast.
But then, you’d slept right through breakfast, hadn’t you?
You’d woken up two hours after falling asleep, and hadn’t been able to slide back into slumber until after you’d watched the sunrise from your balcony through blinking bleary eyes.
You’d only gotten a very quick gulp of water into your system after brushing your teeth, and now here you were, by the pool, living your best holiday-instagram-filtered-story life.
When Joe walked into earshot, you were ready to launch an excuse at him for not having returned his jacket yet.
But then he bent and sat down on the sun lounger next to you and you realized; that was his towel. One he'd probably laid down just before breakfast to ensure himself a lounger for when he'd want to enjoy some time by the pool side later.
Later was now, apparently.
Joe sat and took off his loafers as he looked over at the pool where the sun made the surface glitter, and then you saw him turn his head to look at you, giving you a polite smile.
“I was going to bring it over last night,” you blurted out as you sat up a little, “I promise, room 907, I didn’t forget. It was just, it got a bit late, and I didn’t want to maybe wake you– I’ll give it back today,” God, the nervosity practically dripped from the words you squeaked out.
Joe just smiled, which only made it worse.
“I... I’ll go get it right now, sorry,” you swung your legs to the side but stopped when you heard Joe laugh.
“That’s okay, no worries,” he quickly said, stopping your feet from finding your flip flops.
“I wasn’t going to keep it,” you reassured.
“I didn’t think you were.”
Okay, good.
“None of my other things have gone missing, so you’re fine,” Joe scrunched his nose and made a face before he got comfy with his book in his lap.
You thought back to that first night with his suitcase. He was sort of right. You could’ve easily kept something - probably would have if you’d listened to your friend who kept telling you, “That looks great on you, fucking keep it,” over and over.
“About that...” you heard yourself say it before you could stop yourself.
“Can I, just, do you want my unsolicited opinion on something?”
Joe found the page in his book he’d left off on and used fingers to bend the spine a bit further. He didn’t really reply, which you took as an invitation to just drop what had been on your mind without holding back.
“Just, I don’t understand, you seem–” you thought your choice of words over just for a second. “You sort of seem like you know what you’re doing. Man on a business trip, expensive clothing, all tailored I’m guessing, and then there’s– I’m sorry, but why would you use two-in-one shampoo?”
Joe blinked at you a second.
“And not only use it, but bring it?!”
It took Joe a second to figure out how to react to your animated question. You seemed genuinely grossed out and properly confused.
Man on a business trip.
That tickled him.
“You um... you went through my toiletries?” Joe asked, eyes back in his book, hoping that maybe the question would get you to blush again like you’d blushed when you’d met at the airport the day before.
“I went through everything, and you fucking know it,” you couldn’t help but laugh yourself now. “Please tell me that bottle has been in your that bag since the nineties and you don’t actually use it still,”
Joe snorted, head bobbing a little.
“I mean,” he started, “It’s how long I’ve had the bag, so that’s not as implausible as you’d think,”
“Yea, it looks it, Joe” you jabbed, grinning, and that’s when Joe realised.
The fucking toiletries bag.
The one he’d had since he was eight.
The one his mother had written his name on with black sharpie so he wouldn’t lose it.
JOE
He could picture it clear as day.
You knew his name because you’d read it on his toiletries bag.
You didn’t know who he was.
His mother’s handwriting had revealed his name to you, and you didn’t fully understand the wistful little smile that overtook his face for a moment as he frowned at his book a little.
This new knowledge shifted something for him. He could dissect the relief of it all later, if he wanted to. Now, it just made him want to entertain this interaction further.
So he did.
Asked you if he was correct at having missed you at breakfast. Told you he wasn't actually on a business trip, but just there for a short break from the hustle and bustle of the city, of work.
You told him you were there for the same reason, and you swapped similar stories of busy jobs and hectic schedules, of tensed shoulders and worried supervisors who pressured you into trips to the sun, and now, here you were. By the poolside of a nice hotel where they served nice drinks and, would you like a drink? What did you have last night?
“Stop, if anyone needs to get anyone a drink here, it’s me. As a thank you for the jacket and not having me, you know, arrested.”
You got up, were about to wave your card in Joe’s face but found yourself plonking back down onto the lounger.
Weird.
You didn’t feel dizzy at all, but somehow your balance felt off. You went to test it by giving your head a little shake, and then suddenly, the world moved sideways. Gravity pulled at you from the side, making you lean there a little, and then, a lot.
There was lounger where you landed, shoulder first, but there wasn’t enough lounger. After bouncing once, you felt yourself slide.
It somehow felt fine, didn’t make you panic at all, your brain already making sense of it but in all the wrong ways. You didn’t feel so heavy, head all light, and so the thud to the floor wasn’t so bad. It was almost like you floated down there, but then, with your cheek pressed against the warm concrete, everything unexpectedly moved upwards with a rough jerk. Smacked you right in the face and the rest of your body sort of slumped down, hurting your cheekbone and what you thought was your brow bone as your full weight seemed shoved into them.
It hurt.
Not in the same way the cold water of the pool hurt the bones of your feet when you'd sat on the edge of it earlier – this felt worse. Cutting.
Your face was pushed into the ground by your own weight until out of the blue, the concrete moved away from you, and you floated back up. Back the right side up.
There were hands and they pulled, and it hurt your arm, your elbow, your shoulder.
“Did you faint? What the– did you faint? No, you– hang on,”
Hands clambered at you until you were back on soft familiar surface, but everything felt a little sticky. And somehow you were fucking freezing.
“Joe?”
You felt your vocal cords say it, you knew you just said something, but you didn’t hear them. Was your voice not working? Or was it your hearing that had gone?
“You fainted,”
“It’s fine, I don’t– what’s happening, what is…”
“Fucking hell, lay down a second. Legs up too, just, I want you flat– be flat,”
You didn’t move quick enough for Joe’s liking, which Joe realized, of course you fucking didn’t. You just smashed yourself face first into the concrete and your eyebrow was bleeding now. In an attempt to gracefully get your legs up onto the lounger too, Joe nearly flung you off of the whole thing on the other side. Managed to grab you by the side just before you swung too far.
“Hands, hands,” Joe just grabbed them. “Give me your hands.” He was already holding them. “Here, hold the sides for me. I need to move you into the shade.”
And then the whole world moved. A tree came into view as the lounger you were on got dragged across grass. It disoriented you into a dizzy spin that made you forget which way was up for a second, even though you were staring right at up.
In no time, two guys who wore polo shirts with hotel-logo-nametags hovered over you and a lady from three sun loungers over stepped in to tell them to get a first aid kit. Something to clean that gash with. To make the bleeding stop.
Joe stepped back and let her mother you for a second, told one of the guys who worked at the hotel that you’d gotten up from the sun lounger and then just… fell.
The lady asked if you’d eaten, and you tried to convince her you were fine and that all of the fuss was a bit much, but then you had to confess that you hadn’t actually eaten and you’d also not slept very well the night before, and the night before that, and, you actually hadn't slept normal in ages, and your shoulders hurt, lower back too, and you’d drank a lot the night before, and, Jesus Christ, you were so fucking cold.
“Someone get her something to drink, she needs sugar,”
“And a sandwich maybe? Something to eat?” Joe added, making the other man scurry off.
There was a moment where the lady and Joe looked at each other and then both looked back at you and you felt so stupidly embarrassed.
“Can I– I want to go back to my room,”
So you could fester in your own embarrassment by yourself in peace and quiet. Without people staring down at you, and no doubt from all around the pool too with all the commotion that was made.
“They’re getting you a drink and some food, and you need your eyebrow looked at,” the lady smiled politely at you, using a finger to wipe some of your hair away from getting stuck in the blood there.
You moved a hand up to touch it, to feel how bad it was, but saw Joe reach an arm out that he quickly snapped away when you halted. You moved it to your mouth instead, to bite at the thumb nail to stop your teeth from chattering.
You were outside and people were barely wearing any clothes and seemed fine – why were you still freezing?
“Are you cold?” the woman asked, already looking around for a towel to drape over you.
“I’m fine,” you lied, and heard Joe huff a laugh. Obviously, you weren’t.
“Here,” he said, and you saw how he handed over the white hotel towel from his sun lounger. It got carefully placed over your shoulders, and it helped a little, but you just wanted to go upstairs and crawl back into bed. Get under the warm covers and sleep this off.
The first aid kit arrived, and this random hotel guest in a bathing suit took it from the guy who’d brought it over. She took over completely, cleaned your face with disinfectant and asked for Joe to help her cut a piece of tape to bandage it up. You saw his fingers fumble, shaking a little bit, like he seemed nervous.
A plated club sandwich and a can of coke arrived. After plenty of “How are you feeling?” and you repeating that you were fine over and over and over in between sips and bites, you were finally asked which room you were staying in, and if you were there with someone.
You hesitated to answer, afraid that if you said you were alone, they wouldn’t just let you go back to your room. They should, of course they should just let you do whatever, but there were three strangers doting over you all worriedly, and then also a fourth one who, even though you'd gone through everything he brought on this trip, was still technically a stranger too.
“It’s okay,” Joe then said. “I’ll take her up to her room.”
And before you could complain about it, he’d slung his towel around his neck, had taken the glass and the plate, then bent sideways and stuck an elbow out for you to loop an arm through.
It was a little weird to walk into the hotel with Joe. To get into the lifts with Joe. To step into your room with Joe.
It was a little weirder to say you were going to shower and that you were fine, thank you.
It was a little weirder when Joe didn’t just accept that and looked at you with worried eyes before he asked if you could shower with the door open, and if he could sit just outside in case the hot water did silly things to your blood pressure. What if you dropped in the shower and no one would be there to stop you from drowning?
“Drown? It’s a shower.”
“Place could flood.” Joe shrugged.
It was weird when you looked at each other a second and you realised he wasn’t going to leave. Wasn’t going to let you shower with the door shut and locked, and so, fine.
Joe awkwardly stood in the middle of your hotel room, plate and drink still in hand, when you moved the desk chair closer to the bathroom door.
“I’m sorry, I just, that lady from downstairs will murder me if I don’t make sure you’re okay,”
You laughed at his excuse and gestured for him to put all he was holding down on the desk.
“I’ll be quick.” You said, finding a change of clothes to take into the bathroom with you.
“Please, take your time. Don’t rush.”
You didn’t rush, but were quick anyway. You now had a man waiting for you to finish a shower and you knew you’d gone through all of his things, but leaving him alone in your hotel room surrounded by all of your things felt invasive.
The warm water was nice and managed to relax your shoulders a little.
Not a lot.
But, you know, all little bits helped.
“I’m okay,” you called when you shut off the water, hoping maybe Joe would reply, ok great, and maybe leave. He didn’t. Just said, “Good.” and then stayed put.
When you emerged with wet hair, in soft shorts and a white tank top, Joe smiled at you. His eyes immediately went to the wet bandage that covered your eyebrow still, the tape strong enough to have kept it in place. Good. That was good.
His smile quickly disappeared however, when he saw you rub a hand at your neck, your face displaying a painful grimace.
“Your jacket,” you pointed and Joe looked. Saw his jacket. Had seen it already.
He didn’t move to grab it, instead turning back to you. His eyes flicked between your face that displayed painful discomfort and the hand that was squeezing at the flesh of your shoulder now.
“All right, I’ll leave you alone in a second, but before you tell me you’re fine again, can I… can I just…” Joe held both his hands up. You just looked at them and didn’t move. Joe, in turn, placed both hands on top of your shoulders and frowned at what he felt.
“Jesus, all right,” Joe turned, looked around the room, eyes darting and brain going at top speeds to put a plan together.
“Do you mind if I…?”
Perhaps Joe could start actually finishing his sentences, you thought, although you thought you knew what he meant and shrugged both your shoulders up to your ears.
“No,” Joe’s eyes grew wide before he tutted at you. “Don’t, that doesn’t help. Come, sit,”
Joe sat down on the edge of the bed before you did.
“Face that way,” Joe pointed towards the windows, away from him. You followed instructions without question and felt how he collected your hair into one hand before carefully placing it over a shoulder so it’d be out of the way.
“You know this isn’t what this is meant to feel like, right?” You could hear the humour carried in his voice. Of course you knew that. You knew you also weren’t meant to bite at your nails until your fingers bled. Weren’t meant to wake up sweating and panting because you’d hallucinated being trapped in a small dark place again.
You felt the mattress level out behind you as Joe got up and stepped forward. He bent to the side a little, getting his shoulder in front of your face.
“Here,” he touched himself where he’d touched you just before. “Feel this bit, how you can easily squeeze the soft tissue here?”
You reached up, hesitated for a moment, but then touched Joe over his linen shirt that had a few buttons done up now, and squeezed where he told you to squeeze. Like it was normal.
That was… that was all muscle.
Not as thick and hard as whatever was happening to your shoulders, but these were Joe’s warm muscles you were pressing your fingers into.
“Now feel yours,” Joe moved back, touched his fingers to where he wanted you to feel, and made you squeeze yourself in the same spot and, yea, okay, that was a big difference.
“I am also here to relax, but clearly one of us needs it more than the other,” Joe huffed a laugh through his nostrils as he sat down on the bed again behind you and he got back to what he was doing before.
“I've not gotten a good night's sleep in months,” you revealed as Joe dug thumbs into where it hurt.
Hurt good.
Hurt so good.
“You should book a massage,” Joe spoke softly, but kept massaging your shoulders, the bottom of your neck.
“Hmmh,” you replied, afraid that if you’d say anything else, he’d stop what he was doing.
Joe kneaded and pushed and squeezed and touched for a while, and you noticed you were starting to have to work really hard at not flopping over. At sitting up right and keeping your eyes open. You repressed yawns and tried to remember to breath properly, but you’d just had a nice shower and you’d barely gotten any sleep before and now you were on your bed in a comfortable outfit and Joe was massaging you with his big hands and maybe you could rest your eyes, for just a second, you know?
“Here, lay down,” Joe suddenly whispered and without acknowledging how weird it was that Joe just sat outside your bathroom whilst you showered and was now massaging you to sleep in your hotel room, you just laid down. Instantly got comfortable on your stomach leaving enough space for Joe to sit on the side, one knee folded onto the bed and the other dangling down the side still.
“There’s a– do you feel this?” Joe pushed knuckles exactly where you wanted them. “Huge knot.”
“Feels nice,” you whispered, breathy and exhausted.
“I can loosen it up a bit more, but this– you really should get a professional massage,”
Joe kept working strong fingers and even stronger knuckles into the same spots until you couldn’t even feel it anymore. Just felt numb. Or maybe you were just falling asleep and not stopping yourself from slipping under.
Joe’s hands never ventured much lower – maybe just a little, but nothing inappropriate. You were only strangers after all. He thought that you knew who he was but then you didn’t and now the playing field was level and, sure, you knew more about him because you’d gone through his whole suitcase, but he was in your hotel room now and you were falling asleep under his touch.
Fell asleep under his touch.
You woke up in an empty hotel room hours later, covered by the folded-over other half of the duvet you were lying on top of.
You felt… well rested. Only a little disoriented. A little thirsty. Nothing crazy.
The last thing you remembered feeling was Joe’s fingers trailing from your shoulders down your arms and back up again and you felt a little sad that he wasn’t there anymore.
It was still light out, but the sun was setting and it felt like the whole day had passed you by today. You stretched, body feeling looser. Better. Joe was right though, you needed to book a massage. Maybe two. Or three.
When you looked over and saw Joe’s jacket still there, slung over the back of the chair that was now back in its spot behind the desk, you couldn’t help the huff of laughter that escaped you. He could’ve taken that – should have taken that, and yet…
Yea, the day had been weird.
Had been weird from the start.
The weird night's sleep, Joe's toiletries bag, the wound above your eye, the empty coke can on the desk, the massage that had put you to sleep for several uninterrupted hours, and, Joe's jacket.
Weird.
And then room service was weird.
And watching the sunset from your balcony was weird.
Then trying to get back into bed for actual nighttime sleep was weird.
All of it, just... weird.
Room 907.
You'd said you would return the jacket today.
And then he'd been in your room and he'd stayed with you until you'd fallen asleep and then he hadn't taken it.
Joe's jacket was still in your hotel room.
Weird.
You tried ignoring it. Tried to watch TV. Scrolled on your phone. Thought of taking a long bath, maybe.
But that stupid jacket. It kept calling your attention from across the room.
Even after turning off all the lights and tossing and turning for about an hour, you could still feel it there. Taunting. Whispering dares.
Bring me to his hotel room.
Take me there.
Come on.
And...
Fuck.
All right.
You sat up in bed, flicked on a light and squinted both eyes at the sudden brightness.
There it was, still in the same spot. Joe's jacket.
“Fine. You win.” you told no one and slung your legs out of bed, grumbling with annoyance as you took the jacket from the chair and found your hotel room key on the side.
Room 907.
The hotel was quiet as you took the lift down two floors and found Joe's room quick enough.
You stalled a second, unsure if you should knock, but then thought, fuck it. You were there now, jacket in hand, and you'd said you'd bring it back today. You knocked softly, then waited and listened. Nothing. Just to be safe, you knocked again, and then heard the soft click of a light switch. You ignored how that made your heart thunder in your throat.
It didn't take long for the door to open. When you saw Joe's tired face, you immediately knew you'd made a mistake.
You should've waited 'til the next morning. This wasn't a cool move.
“Your jacket,” you felt so dumb. Looked so dumb.
But then you caught sight of the smallest of smiles as Joe took it from you, holding the door wide open as he did.
A beat of silence followed where you hoped Joe'd say thanks, so you could tell him thank you for letting you borrow it in return.
The thanks never came.
Instead Joe stepped aside, door still wide open, and gave a tiny backwards nod that welcomed you inside, followed by a quiet whisper.
“Come on.”

Treat You 1
Warnings: dark elements, noncon, violence, mentions of abuse, other dark elements. Proceed with caution. (Tall!reader)
Note: Please let me know what you think as it helps me a lot with ideas and I love interacting with you all.
Part of The Club AU
You stumble out into the hallway, nearly colliding with the dingy and peeling paint on the wall. The door slams with the force of your frantic exit, nails bending painfully as you let go of the brass knob. Your heart pulses in your ears as another crash bangs from inside the apartment and your father's tirade blazes on.
You untangle your bag, the only thing you could snatch as you stepped halfway into your shoes. The doorknob twists again and you quickly flee down the hall, your father yanking at the door as it jams. You quickly veer down the staircase and only stop at the top of the next flight to pull your shoes on all the way.
You catch your breath at the front door, aware of how Mrs. Davis’ door snaps shut when you pass. You continue outside without a destination in mind. You could hide out at the library again, no one notices you there. It is a bit far to walk.
You sling the crochet bag over your head so it hangs against your hip. You reach inside and find your change purse. You don't have much after the electric bill. Two bucks, it's three to get the bus.
You huff and tuck your hand back in your bag. Your feet carry you as you wind down the street. The apathetic rush of traffic makes you feel invisible. You don't mind that, it's more dangerous to be seen.
There's nothing remarkable about you. You're taller than most girls but that's more worthy of ridicule than admiration. You wear second-hand clothing, some of it your dad's handmedowns, and hunch until your spine hurts. An elephant trying to play fawn.
You chew your lip and stop by the vintage shop. Not the Goodwill but the expensive place with the designer houndstooth and Louis Vuitton logos. In another world…
Across the street, a night club stands desolate and eerie in the daylight. A few times you passed during opening and it was rowdy and flashing. Just on your way to the bus station to spend a couple hours on a bench.
On the next street, a cafe. The place that closed then opened only weeks later. New ownership but everything else the same. The prices aren't as steep as the Starbucks kiosk near the station.
You ponder it, stopping outside as you see a woman behind the counter. You're a bit relieved it's not the usual barista. That guy with reddish hair and warm brown eyes. He likes to talk, too bad you don't.
You enter and approach the till. The woman greets you brightly, her eyes look tired, and she points out to the specials. Nope, you can only afford a tea.
You pay for the green tea and way for her to pour the hot water. As you tap your fingers on the counter, another figure appears from behind the espresso machine. It's that guy. Dang.
“Hey, done break, your turn,” he chirps, quieting as he sees you standing there. He smiles, “oh, hi, you been helped?”
You nod and look down. The woman places the cup of steaming water in front of you. You thank her and take it, turning to claim the seat in the corner.
You sit and settle in with your bag in your lap. You don't have much to do so you stare out the window. Pedestrians pass by, with purpose, some even happily.
The cafe is quiet. There's a couple nesr the opposite wall, on a date, maybe. The ambiance holds even as people come in, ordering and leaving with their drinks.
You blow on your tea and sip. You tug the string of the bag and dip it up and down. Your dad will tire himself out soon. Maybe two hours. You can't make one tea last that long.
You put your arm on the table and curl your shoulders. You trace a finger on the tabletop. You usually keep a book in your bag but you took it out to read last night.
You frown. It shouldn't be like this but that's just how it is. You don't have much of a choice. Your dad is your family, your only family, all you have.
You wiggle your nose and swallow back your self-pity. No use crying. Especially here.
“Hi,” the voice frightens you as the barista approaches with a cinnamon bun on a plate, “uh, I'm Peter, remember? Saw you last week?”
You blink. You press your palms to the cup and feel the heat threaten to blister. He's short, his shoulders broad, and his posture straight.
“Er, you want a cinnamon bun?”
“I… no, I don't have the money,” you rasp and sip your tea.
“On the house,” he insists, “really, there was a mix up this morning and we made a batch too many.”
“That's nice but… no thank you.”
You know what it is to accept favours. They always come back to debts. You lower your head again.
“You don't like sweets? We have quiche–”
You shake your head. He hovers, waiting. You turn to watch out the window again. You wince as the plate clinks onto the table. He leaves the bun there and goes back behind the counter. You ignore it.
Maybe you won't come here anymore.

A year in illustration (2024), Part three
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:

Part one
Part two
Live Nation/Ticketmaster is buying Congress
I had a lot of fun scouring Victorian woodcuts for cool tentacles to add to this image. The garish concert lights in the background were a fun find – I was halfway through using them when I realized that the image came from my old pal Matt Biddulph, who has many claims to fame, but my favorite is that he once sarcastically called the area in Hackney where some tech startups were clustered "Silicon Roundabout" and then experienced the monkey's paw curse of having the government turn this into an official designation.

The specific process by which Google enshittified its search
Around April, I realized I needed a visual signifier for "enshittified Google" – I created a cartoon mascot with the head of a poop emoji, colored in the original Google logo colors. I put him into "The Junior Partner Speaks," an old ad for Pacific Woolens and Worsteds, which I've since used several times:
https://craphound.com/images/juniorpartner.jpg
I'm very fond of using the homely old original Google logo as a way to differentiate pre-enshittificatory Google from modern, enshittocene Google.

Podcasting "Capitalists Hate Capitalism"
Real Gilded Age corruption-heads will instantly recognize the editorial cartoon image of Boss Tweed as a suited figure with a sack of money for a head; his body language is impeccable, conveying a sneering disregard for decency and others' wellbeing. He works very well inserted into this tapestry of feudal peasants threshing grain.

No, "convenience" isn't the problem
It's stupidly, unnecessarily hard to find hi-rez scans of Rube Goldberg cartoons online, but this one is perfect and it was a delight to lovingly crop out all its little details. Throw in Cryteria's HAL 9000 and a Matrix code waterfall and you've got a perfect image of the complex, hostile traps of digital systems.
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/12/give-me-convenience/#or-give-me-death
The unexpected upside of global monopoly capitalism
This one's pretty subtle! I mostly just added the monocle, mustache and top-hat to the fallen head of Goliath in Bosse's 17th century engraving of the triumphant David. The planet Earth in David's sling is a NASA image and thus in the public domain.
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/10/an-injury-to-one/#is-an-injury-to-all
How to shatter the class solidarity of the ruling class
Goodness, but "canceled" is a tedious cliche. If you must describe someone being ejected from polite society, please consider the far more delightful "defenestrated," not least because the many paintings and etchings of The Defenestration of Prague gives us a lot of public domain visual material to work with when illustrating such events.

General Mills and cheaply bought "dietitians" co-opted the anti-diet movement
The minute I saw this unsourced midcentury commercial illustration of a scientist working in a chem lab, I knew I'd get a lot of mileage out of it; I spent a long flight productively slicing it onto layers so that I could replace his head and put arbitrary objects in his flask:
https://craphound.com/images/labflask.jpg
I've used him before, but putting the Trix rabbit's head on him and sticking a box of Cocoa Puffs in the flask worked great.
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/05/corrupt-for-cocoa-puffs/#flood-the-zone-with-shit
Too big to care
I spent the whole flight to SXSW last year slicing up a super hi-rez (10,000px wide!) image of Hieronymus Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights," slicing out individual demons, with special attention to the hoof-footed, anus-baring demon in a hat with a whole secret demonic clubhouse in its rectal cavity. At the end of that flight, I had a very funny conversation with my perplexed seatmate, who was dying to know what the actual fuck I was working on.
The background here is made up of desaturated, magnified brushstrokes from Van Gogh's "Starry Night."
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/04/teach-me-how-to-shruggie/#kagi
Red Lobster was killed by private equity, not Endless Shrimp
I inserted a rogue's gallery of "evil boss types" from various editorial cartoons into this vintage Red Lobster ad, including Boss Tweed, an impatient guy from a midcentury John Falter commercial illustration, possibly for a radio station (?) and a William Gropper sketch for a cartoon making fun of the business lobby's opposition to the New Deal.

You were promised a jetpack by liars
The newsie with the great grin makes a reappearance in this one, beneath a jetpack flyer taken from a 1928 Amazing Stories cover by R Frank Paul. The control panel is one of several midcentury electronics consoles I've spent idle hours cropping out (this one comes from a Schlitz ad depicting a HAM radio enthusiast). The hypnotic head is from the October, 1953 cover of Doll-Man, likely by Reed Crandall. I started playing around with halftoning with this one, on the background, as a way of hiding the JPEG artifacts that emerged when I uprezzed small source images. It worked really well.

AI "art" and uncanniness
I was so happy with how the extra fingers on this Victorian woodcut of a hand on a Oujia board planchette came out. And the green tinting worked perfectly with the Code Waterfall background.

Coffee Shop Meet Cute
Pairing: Frankie (Catfish) Morales x gn!reader
Words: 2.5k
Rating: G (brief mention of addiction and divorce)
Summary: Needing to get out of your hostel, you find yourself at a quaint coffee shop run by handsome stranger.
Author: Mod Mouse
Notes: This is another entry in the Secret Springs challenge by @secretelephanttattoo. This is technically an entry for week 3 shops prompts (I'm using coffee shop for this)
This hostel was the worst idea. Especially when you were trying to finish this chapter in your book, but the guy in the bunk above you was snoring like a fog horn and you couldn’t handle the woman across from you who insisted she tell you the same story of her trip to Switzerland for the 18th time today. You had to get out of here. Quickly you searched your phone for the nearest coffee shop and all the chains popped up first. You scrolled past them, not interested in some corporate super shop.
One name in particular stuck out to you. Catfish Coffee. That sounds promising. You thought and quickly packed your backpack before the storyteller returned. With the directions on your phone, you followed the winding paths of the city.
The quaint town was one of many options in what can only be described as a vacation country. Your friend had convinced you to take a trip for yourself after your recent divorce, and you weren’t going to argue with them. Spending a week just reading and writing to your heart's content sounded like a dream.
The voice on the map took you out of your thoughts and you looked up to see the sign for Catfish Coffee. The logo was a simple design with a cute cartoon catfish holding a coffee shop wearing a hat with the logo of Standard Heating. You smirked not expecting how cute this shop would be. Excitedly you pushed open the door making a small bell ring.
You were greeted with the cool air conditioning making you shiver just a bit wishing you had brought your cardigan. Soft music sang through the shop helping add to the relaxing environment. There weren’t many customers in at the moment which gave you some relief. Finally you could find some comfort in your own company.
The single barista turned at the sound and smiled when he saw you. He was older than you were expecting, maybe in his late 40s. Curly hair poke out from his well loved hat and he wore a dark blue apron with the logo of the shop in the center which when you got closer to the counter you realized that it was the same hat the catfish was wearing.
“Welcome to Catfish Coffee. What can we get you?” He asked in a friendly tone.
“Well this is my first time here. What would you recommend?” You asked, adjusting your bag.
“Depends on what you like,” He stated as he turned to point at the menu behind him. “If you want something to beat the heat we got plenty of frozen drinks. Looking for something more casual we got plenty of lattes hot and cold, coffee and tea based. Want something more simple we got plenty of roasts from local farms that you can sample on our coffee flights.” He turned back to look at you smiling.
“That’s quite the selection you offer,” You commented looking over the menu again.
He blushed and rubbed the back on the neck. “Gotta make sure there’s something for everyone.”
“And that gives me an excuse to come back and try all of them,” You reply.
You might have misread his expression but you might have caught a hint of a blush on his stubble cheeks. “You are always welcome back.”
“I’ll take the honey latte then,” You said when you finally decided.
The barista rang up your order with a flurry of hands. “Great choice, that one’s quite popular. We get the honey locally as well.”
You hand him your card. “I didn’t realize this resort had so many local businesses.”
“It’s amazing what they were able to make here,” He added, handing your card back to you. “That’ll be out in just a minute.”
“Thank you…” You paused to look down at his name tag. “Frankie.”
“No problem. Love seeing new faces,” He added as he grabbed a cup.
“You must get a lot people coming and going,” You commented.
“That’s mostly who we get, but we have some regulars that come in,” He adds over his shoulder as he pumps the syrup into the plastic cup.
“I’m glad you have dedicated customers,” You said as you look around the cafe. “It’s a very cute place.”
“Thank you,” He replied as he poured the milk into the cup. “I’m very proud of it.” He finished making the drink and set it on the counter in front of you.
“As you should be,” You smiled and took your drink. You turned and headed toward one of the empty tables.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frankie couldn’t help but be intrigued by the customer that just walked in. They weren’t the usual clientele he attracted. But there you were sitting at one of the booths holding what can only be described as a tome in your hand. That book must be at least 600 pages, and you were reading as if you were on a deadline. And you had been here for a few hours at least. He was surprised you weren’t interested in any other vacation type activities.
You seemed so sweet despite the small interaction he had shared with you, and he did want to get to know you. Though he didn’t want to come off as weird so he continued with his business.
A couple more customers came and went, but you persisted. He checked the time. It had been well past three hours since you entered the store. Though you were no longer reading that encyclopedia. You were typing away at a tablet now with a look of determination etched on your cute face. Wait, did he really think that you were cute? Frankie shook his head rubbing his eyes. Maybe he needed more coffee.
He made himself a simple cup of coffee and when he turned around he realized you were now the only one left in the shop. Frankie tapped his fingers against the counter and quickly set his own coffee down. He quickly made another honey latte for you, and took a deep breath before bringing it over to your table.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Writing was hard. You were on a roll, the plot and scenes were all coming together, but then you swear to any god out there it just left you. There your main character was having a triumphant monologue, and then blip! It was gone. You groaned and rubbed your eyes.
“Troubles?” You heard a voice and looked up. You smiled when you saw it was Frankie. “Sorry, I know you’ve been here awhile and thought you could use a refill.” You held up a hand to protest, but he interrupted with a smile. “On the house.”
“Thank you,” You smiled and happily received the additional drink. You took a sip and it felt yourself relax once again.
“If you don’t mind me asking, what has you all stressed out?”
“Oh just the masterpiece I’m supposed to be creating,” You answered with a bit of sarcasm in your voice and gesture to your screen.
Frankie leaned over to peek at the screen. “You have a good amount so far.”
“And that’s the problem. I was on a roll but then some writing demon decided to take away my ability to form basic sentences,” You sighed and ran your hand through your hair.
“I don’t know much about writing. Never did well in English class, but I can tell you if you force something it will break. Maybe come back to it with a fresh mind tomorrow,” Frankie offered.
You sighed. “I know you’re right, I'm just impatient. I’ve been trying to write this for months now.”
He chuckled, “I know that feeling, but you might also feel better with some food in you too.” He glanced at the clock then continued. “I close up here soon and my buddies own a bar not too far from here. I can take you there if you want.” He offered rubbing the back of his neck.
You smiled softly. “I actually would really like that.”
Frankie smiled. “Then that’s what we shall do. In the meantime, read more of that book of yours. It seems like a good one.”
You blushed. He noticed you were reading? Frankie was really quite thoughtful. “It is. It’s got me on the edge of my seat.”
“You’ll have to tell me how it goes,” He says, heading back to his counter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Frankie was right. Reading more of that book helped with your stress and even gave you an idea for your own book. Before you knew it, Frankie was closing up shop and the two of you walked out into the cool summer air. He quickly locked up the front. Instead of wearing his barista apron, he switched his wardrobe for a worn flannel.
“The bar is just down this way,” He gestured down the road where you could see a neon sign outside the restaurant.
“It looks like a cute place,” You mention as you started down the sidewalk.
“It’s quite the popular bar. They’ve really done a lot with it. Turned it from a almost condemned building to one of the more popular restaurants in town.” Frankie beamed as he talked about his buddies. It was clear he was very proud of what they had accomplished.
You smiled. “That’s amazing to hear.” You took in a deep breath and caught a scent of Frankie’s collonge. He smelled of sandalwood and other earthy tones which you had to admit was one of your favorites. When you reached the door, Frankie held the door open and you thanked him. He really is a gentleman you thought as you entered the establishment.
The Ironhead Bar was quite the place to be. All sorts of sports games were playing on the screens with plenty of what could only be described as “manly decor” lined the wall. Anything from sports memorabilia to old army collectibles covered the different sections. As if he owned the place Frankie took a seat at the bar and you sat down next to him. Usually bars weren’t your scene, but you felt oddly at home at his establishment.
A young man wearing a hat almost as worn as Frankie’s hat looked up and smiled a wide smile when he saw you two. “Catfish! Fancy seeing ya here tonight.” he saddled up to the two of you cleaning a glass with a rag.
“Benny I come here every night,” Frankie rolled his eyes, but smiled.
“Maybe I should make you start paying your tab,” Benny joked and smacked Frankie lightly on the shoulder. He then looked over at you. “You though are a new face. Frankie, who’s this handsome person?” He asked, gesturing with his thumb.
“I just so happened to stop by the coffee shop today,” You said looking over at Frankie. “I guess I overstayed my welcome, but Frankie invited me to get dinner with him.”
That seemed to make Benny smirk. “I see,” He glances between you and Frankie, his smile growing even bigger.
Frankie rolled his eyes and lightly pushed Benny’s shoulder. “Just get us a couple of Pope burgers and beers.”
“You got it boss,” Benny winked at you before heading back to the kitchen.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at the interaction. “I’m guessing you’ve known each other a long time.”
“You can say that. We’re old army buddies. Once we got out we decided to stick together and open our dream places. He opened this place with his brother, and well you know the coffee shop.”
You smiled softly and leaned your head on your hand. “Ah that’s where the catfish came from,” You said more to yourself. “That's really nice actually. You must really like coffee.”
Frankie chuckled. “You can say that. You could also say it saved my life.”
“I feel like there's a story there,” You say as Benny sets your beers down. You didn’t miss it when he gave Frankie an eyebrow wiggle before talking to more customers.
“There is,” He said, taking a quick sip of his beer. “I’m actually a recovering addict.” Your eyes widened and he held up his hand. “Not beer hermoso. It was cocaine. Got addicted in the army and could never get over it. It wasn’t until Will, Benny’s brother, knocked some sense into me. We found out that coffee was a good substitute for the way I felt high, and well here I am. Five years clean.”
You smile softly. “That’s really amazing.”
Frankie blushed and took another sip. “Thank you. It was a hard journey, but it helps when you have friends as loyal as them.”
“I second that. I wouldn’t be where I am without my best friend either,” You smiling thinking about all the times your friends saved you.
“What brings you to our neck of the woods?” Frankie asked before taking another sip of his beer.
“I was planning on taking a vacation to work on my book, but um,” You chuckled a little sad. “I found my husband cheating on me so this vacation became the ‘write and not thinking about the divorce’ vacation. Sorry I didn’t mean to that deep.”
Frankie’s eyes were sympathetic. “I get it. I’m divorced too.”
Your eyes were caring in return. He sighed “Took the kid in the middle of the night and I haven’t heard from them since. But I think it’s for the better.”
“Most of the time it usually is, but it's that mountain of emotions that you have to drill through first.”
Frankie raised his glass to you. “I’ll drink to that,” He said and you brought your own glass to clink with him. You both took another sip and set your glasses down.
Benny returned with two red plastic food trays and set them down in front of you. “Two Pope burgers on the house for Frankie and the lovely fella.”
Frankie rolled his eyes and thanked him. Benny patted his shoulder again and continued making drinks. You grabbed the big burger with all the workings and carefully took a bite. You moaned at the taste. “Damn that’s a great burger.”
Frankie moaned in agreement. His face was as messy as your spots of ketchup dotting his salt and pepper beard. You chuckled and handed him a napkin. He blushed and took it from you using it to wipe up the mess.
You swallowed your bit. “Don’t worry. I bet my face doesn’t look much better.”
“I think your face looks handsome,” Frankie semi blurted and blushed.
You giggled and took a sip of your beer. “Is that so?” You tease.
Frankie cleared his throat. “So um how long are you on this writing vacation?”
“About a week. That should hopefully give me enough time to write what I want. And -now that I have a comfy place to work- I should definitely finish this book on time.”
“Well you have a table whenever you want,” Frankie blushed.
You pick up your glass. “I’m definitely taking you up on that offer.” Frankie raises his glass to you, giving it a small clink. You had a feeling that this was the start of something really nice.
AU Space Shuttle Enterprise
Circa 1985 to 1987
From my Alternative History Post (link) this is how the Space Shuttle Enterprise evolved from the 4th operational orbiter in 1985 to the prototype unmanned shuttle.
More History on the Shuttle:
• April 1983: Enterprise is returned to Palmdale for her disassembled and rebuild.
• As a weight saving measure her mid-fuselage is returned to Convair for a complete rebuild to bring it inline with OV-103 and OV-104.
• to further lighten her frame, her aft-fuselage is rebuilt with similar materials as her sisters.
• Engineers at Rockwell suggests rebuilding or replacing her wings as well but NASA doesn't have room in the budget.
• May 1985: at long last, Enterprise is rolled out and joins the fleet. She weighs slightly less than Columbia. Her main issue is her wings are heavier and weaker than the other Orbiters.
• September 1985: STS-21 is Enterprise's first mission
• 1987: During the Shuttle hiatus following the Challenger Disaster, she went through a mini refit that saw her exterior markings change. (NASA in this timeline returned to the Meatball logo sooner than in the OTL)
Circa 1988 to 1993
• April 1988: STS-30 is Enterprise's first launch following the hiatus.
• December 1993: following STS-61, Enterprise is retired due to being the oldest in the fleet. Endeavour takes her place in the fleet.
• June 1994: Enterprise is flown to Dulles Airport, Washington DC, and is given to the Smithsonian for eventual display when the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is built. NASA retains the option recalled her if needed.
• 1998: NASA studies modifying the Shuttle-C software to work on the Space Shuttle and potentially using Enterprise as a reusable Shuttle-C. The reasoning behind this option this configuration would be a cheaper alternative to the X-33 program. However, while the shuttle could be retrofitted with the software, the shuttle would have less cargo capacity than the X-33 and still required use of expensive legacy launch facilities (ie VAB and LC-39). The study ends with only the software in a beta state.
• December 2003: Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is opened with Enterprise being one of its major exhibits.
• November 2003: the Shuttle-C software is used to return STS-118 Columbia to Earth and with critical damage to her structure (mainly her port wing and some internal damage from a collapsed landing gear).
• May 2004: NASA recalls Enterprise to replace Columbia.
• August 2004: initial plans are to return her flight, unmodified. However, NASA develops the Shuttle-C software further and changes it's name to A.S.Tr.O.S (Autonomous Space Transport Operating System).
• New wings! Enterprise is fitted with new wings which are of a modified design and lighter and stronger than the wings of her sisters. With other upgrades and modifications, she is slightly lighter than her younger sisters.
• Some within NASA joking refer to her as Enterprise-A, as a reference to Star Trek.
• September 2006: to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her unveiling to the media, Lockheed-Rockwell rolls her out of their Palmdale facility to rechristen the Shuttle. In attendance, Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Nichelle Nicholas, Walter Koenig, Christopher Doohan and Rod Roddenberry.
- when asked by the media, Leonard remarked she is still a sight to behold and is glad she will continue her mission of exploration.
Enterprise A (unmanned)
• July 2006: to test the A.S.Tr.O.S. during a return to earth and landing, a new series of Approach and Landing Tests (ALT) were conducted with NASA's 747 SCA (N905NA) at the Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards Air Force Base. 15 flights are flown to put the software in the real world, with two astronauts on board to step in when needed. Barring some higher than normal landing speeds, the software passes all of its objectives.
• It should be noted, while the rebuilt Enterprise is mainly used as an unmanned orbiter, this is a misnomer. It is more accurate to call her a hybrid shuttle. NASA has the option to convert her back into a manned shuttle if desired or needed.
- This nearly was used in 2015 during STS-154. Space Shuttle Atlantis was after conducting maintenance/upgrades on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), the crew was unable to disconnect the shuttle from the telescope. CTS-48 Enterprise was already on LC-39B for a cargo mission to the International Space Station. All that was needed was to remove supplies from the payload bay and reinstall the seats in her crew space. Fortunately, this rescue wasn't needed as the Astronauts conducted an unscheduled EVA and manually disconnected the Shuttle from the HST.
• November 2008: first flight of Enterprise-A (CTS-11)
• When Columbia was given a cosmic restoration for her display, the first set of wings from Enterprise was used to replace her damaged one.
• 2019: Enterprise is retired for the final time following CTS-74.
• 2020: Enterprise is on display at Space Center Houston with the restored Star Trek Galileo Shuttlecraft prop.
A while ago, you did a thread on Yugioh rival symbolism, but it was early enough in your Arc-V watch that you didn't have anything major to say on Reiji/Declan. Now that you've experienced Arc-V in full, what do you think about Declan and his symbolism?
OHHH GOOD QUESTION!! god i love declan so much. i feel like i still need to Really Ruminate on him to fully grip all of the potential symbolism he's got but there's definitely some stuff I'm already locked on that I really like.
I dont think I realized until someone pointed it out that the Akabas all have a card suite motif but it rules so hard; Declan's definitely got such a kickass design especially with that in ind... the diamond earrings, his bangs, the red in his color palette. It's subtle, it's tasteful, I really like it. I like that his character goes hand in hand with what the Diamond suite tends to symbolize too (progress, prosperity, career advancement--diamonds are also apparently associated with the element of air sometimes too, which is insanely funny considering Declan's scarf that can achieve flight in the manga (?!??!).)
In general it's really funny to me that Declan kind of has this "business and corporate hierarchy" motif, with the diamond symbolism and also that thing where D/D/Ds have like corporate titles and are just as much about the landscape of business as they are about Sickass Demons. And I think it's fun how even though Declan is a businessman first and foremost, he isn't really like.... a corrupt businessman, especially not in the way businessmen in yugioh can be. i could write an essay and a half about how declan is such a genuinely caring person but that's it's own story for another time. He's crafted his wealth and business connections into a weapon to fight his father and his deck also weaponizes contracts and businessmen to destroy opponent, it's a cool parallel.
GOD SO MUCH OF THIS IS JUST "WHY DO D/D/DS HAVE LIKE 8 MOTIFS GOING ON WITH THEM" but like practically all of them relate back to Declan as a character in some way! It's so cool! Cuz you have these Different Dimension Demons, but theyre all named after ancient kings and warriors and great scientists, and Declan in general has such a vast Medieval Warrior King/Prince/Royalty type symbolism. The Lancers are his knights right down to the logo. He assumes the 'throne' (LID Presidency) after his father fucks off to Evil Duel Academy. He fights a goddamn dragon (Zarc). Hell even the paler grey in his hair looks very crown like. It's making me a little sicko mode to think about especially through the lens of viewing Arc-V itself as a creation myth or a fairy tale. BUT THAT AGAIN IS ANOTHER KETTLE OF FISH.
hang on wtf is the symbolism of the King of Diamonds, actually
OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALRIGHT!!!!! YEA THAT'S DECLAN BABEYYYY
hey haha also i didn't know Akaba means 'red horse.' hahah which horseman was that again
AH.
also. one more thing. does make me a bit ill thinking about how his deck is entirely Fiends and he uses them to spar with Yuya (who of course has devil motifs whether he wants them or not)....something in there maybe....blinks wet eyes
#CERTAIN I FORGOT SOME BUT. A HANDFUL declan has so much shit going on with him i love this dweeb to bits#ygo posting#dana's ygo bible study#asks#anonymous
See Me Go Through Changes
North Country Boy Chapter 4
Pairing: Simon “Ghost” Riley x AFAB!OC
TW: Swearing
Words: 2k
Synopsis: Price gives Jules access to much more than her usual tech and Ghost gets the third degree.
“You need a medic?” Price asked gruffly once the Lieutenant had left the gym.
“No sir, I’m good,” Jules responded, resisting the urge to rub her aching jaw, instead placing her beret back onto her head.
Price nodded once and set off at a brisk pace. Jules followed the Captain down stark corridors, each taking them deeper and deeper into the bowels of Stirling Lines barracks. They encountered a myriad of soldiers on their journey, most of them wearing the caps and badges of the SAS or the SRR, and all of them saluted Price as they passed.
They must have taken a circuitous route that Jules hadn’t used before but they ended up in a wing that was familiar to her and where she’d spent a lot of her time during her SRR training. Stopping before a closed, unmarked door, Price paused with his hand on the door knob. He turned to Jules with a devilish look in his eye.
“Now before we go in, just remember, I don’t want you to get all over-excited on me, Sergeant, understood?”
“Understood,” Jules replied, but her tone was raised, as if her response were a question.
Price pushed open the door and then stepped aside to reveal a bank of monitors and some of the most advanced computing and remote surveillance equipment Jules had ever seen. She stepped into the room with a soft gasp and ran her fingers delicately across the top of the monitors. Her skin prickled with goosebumps in the air-conditioned coolness and she turned back to Price with a genuine smile of joy.
“Fuckin’ ‘ell! Are you flirtin’ with me, Sir?” she teased, earning her a deep, rumbling chuckle.
“If I wanted to flirt with you, Tiger, you’d know about it. I take it you like the set-up?”
“Like it? It’s mint!” Jules exclaimed, practically vibrating with excitement.
“Good. I need you to make sure it's got everything you need. If anything’s missing then there needs to be a list on my desk by 0800 hrs tomorrow. Anything, Sergeant. If you need it, just ask.”
“Absolutely, Sir,” Jules said, but already sounded distracted as her attention was drawn back to the equipment before her.
“One more thing,” Price stated, pulling her focus back to him.
“Yes, Sir?”
“Lieutenant Riley,” Price began and Jules immediately stiffened. “I don’t know what’s gone on and I don’t need to, unless it compromises my team. Will it compromise my team, Sergeant?”
“N-no, Sir,” she replied, her face flushing with embarrassment at her very public loss of control.
“Good. See that it stays that way,” he ordered, but then his face softened. “Go on then, have at it,” he nodded towards the monitors and left Jules to it.
She slid into the comfortable wheeled chair, removed her beret, and lifted the headset onto her head. One swipe of the mouse and the screens before her lit up to show the familiar MOD log in screen. She tapped in her credentials but the homescreen she was expecting to see didn't appear. Instead of the SRR logo with the Corinthian helmet and sword there was a design she hadn’t seen before. The centre of the logo still featured a sword but instead of the helmet there was a skull and they were bordered by a pair of feathered wings and a laurel wreath. The only text visible was under the hilt of the sword and all it stated were the numerals 141.
Moving the cursor over the logo, Jules left-clicked on it and the screen dissolved to show a desktop layout that wouldn’t look out of place in any office in the country but a closer look at the icons showed programs that the majority of people wouldn’t even know existed. There were flight scanners, access portals to world-wide air traffic controls, drone programming systems, access to civilian emergency service and CCTV networks, both radio wave and microwave detector systems for communications interceptions, banking network portals, and pretty much anything else she would need. There, at her fingertips, were the tools she needed to monitor and even start incursions the world over. There was even the Spotify app, which made her huff out a chuckle.
Even with only the most cursory of glances over the system, Jules couldn’t see anything that was conspicuous by its absence. Her list for the Captain was, for the moment, unpopulated. Checking the time on the clock in the bottom left of the screen she noticed a small icon that she recognised but had never had the opportunity to use.
“You’re shittin’ me,” she breathed, before double-clicking on the tiny image.
The screen darkened for a moment before lighting up with a soft blue glow. An electronic chirp sounded from one of the desk drawers and Jules opened it to reveal a high end VR headset resting on a magnetic charging dock.
“Jesus fuckin’ Christ,” she squealed, picking up the tech and cradling it in her hands.
Swallowing down the knot of excitement in her throat she removed the headset she was wearing and slowly replaced it with the VR gear. Sighing in satisfaction at the new accessibility she had gained she weaved her hands through the air in a graceful pattern, relishing the lack of need for hand controllers. A few gestures later and she was walking through the streets of Kyiv and then, in a flash, had been transported to favelas of Rio. Throwing her head back and letting out an excited laugh she allowed herself to get lost in the advanced technology that she loved.
* * * * * *
“Geek,” Rob said affectionately, scrubbing his hand over the top of her head. “Computer Science though, Jules? Why the fuck did you pick that?”
“Cause I like it, knobhead,” she replied, shoving his hand away and batting at his shoulder.
The pub in Preston wasn’t that busy for a Saturday afternoon and the train ride up from Manchester that morning had been uneventful. It had mainly consisted of Jules trying to study for a seminar whilst Simon did his best to antagonise her once he’d finished with the copy of FHM he’d picked up at Piccadilly Station.
“She’s good at it too,” Simon added, catching her eye over the rim of his pint glass. “Got some mint grades on your last assignments, didn’t y’Jules?”
“Yeah, suppose so,” she nodded, flushing a little at his praise.
Rob’s eyes flickered between the pair of them and narrowed in suspicion.
“Is there summat going on wi’ you two?' ' he asked.
“Nah!” Jules exclaimed hurriedly, spluttering around her cider and blackcurrant whilst Simon just let out a short laugh and shook his head.
“Just seem a bit pally, that’s all,” Rob hummed, draining his pint.
“Y’said to look out for her while y’were away,” Simon shrugged.
“I can look out for my own bloody self, Jesus,” Jules muttered. “Fuckin’ cavemen.”
After a chippy tea and a farewell to her brother, Jules and Simon made their way back to the station. He seemed lost in thought, not speaking much as they walked onto the platform to wait. Jules leaned back against the red brick wall and wrapped her arms around herself to stave off the chill of the evening.
A shadow fell across her, blocking the light from the station floodlights as Simon leaned over her, caging her in with a devilish smile.
“Didn’t realise the thought of bein’ wi’ me was so bad,” he rumbled, one hand propped against the wall above her head whilst the other came to rest at her waist.
“Was I wrong though?” she protested with a tilt of her chin. “We’re not exactly seein’ each other are we?”
“Well I’m not seein’ anyone else, Jules,” he said, his face turning slightly more serious.
“What’re y’sayin’ Si?” she breathed.
“Just think we should start bein’ honest with ourselves, that’s all,” he replied, his chestnut eyes trailing over her face.
“What about Rob?”
“I reckon he’d be alright with it,” he said, raising his hand to cup her face.
“I reckon he would too, but I think he’d kick your arse first,” Jules laughed softly.
“I’d let him if it got me wi’ you,” he laughed with her as his thumb brushed gently over her cheek.
“Dick’ead,” she murmured, her tongue darting out across her bottom lip as he lifted her chin and tilted his head down to capture her lips with his.
* * * * * *
Ghost waited at the door to Price’s office, outwardly presenting the model of military perfection but his mind whirled in a mess of guilt and confusion. He regretted pushing Jules as far as he had, and there wasn’t much in his life he did regret. Strange how a lot of it involved her though…
“Si, stopppp!” she laughed, batting his arm away from her waist.
Price rounded the corner of the corridor, his face drawing into a scowl as he spotted Ghost. He didn’t need to say a word, simply making a gesture to enter that Ghost followed without question.
The scent of patchouli permeated his nose as they climbed the uneven stone steps of the old drapery building that housed Affleck’s Palace.
He stood at ease before the Captain’s desk as Price sat and deliberately took his time making himself comfortable. Opening his top drawer he pulled out a cigar, clipped the end with a silver clipper that Ghost himself had gifted him and then lit the tobacco. He stared at his Lieutenant with an ambiguous expression as he waited for Ghost to break the silence.
“It’s on the top floor innit?” he asked, groaning at her pseudo-innocent face.
‘I didn’t know! I swear down!” she gasped out a giggle, grabbing his wrist and hauling up the stairs behind her.
“She’ll do,” Ghost rumbled, scrunching his nose a little under his mask which made the drying blood crack away from his skin.
“And is that your professional opinion?” Price asked, a hint of sarcasm making its way into his words.
“Yeah,” Ghost nodded once.
“Si! I found ‘em!” Jules squealed, bouncing over to him with four small figurines and a beaming smile on her face.
“Want to talk about it?” the Captain probed but Ghost shook his head.
“Negative.”
“Just going to throw this out there Simon, but maybe you need to talk to her.”
Ghost shook his head again but found himself unable to meet Price’s stare. They remained in their non-verbal standoff as the seconds ticked by but Price eventually let out a huff and shook his head in defeat.
“Go on then, dismissed. Just…stop being an arse to her, yeah?”
“It’s like you don’t even know me,” Ghost retorted, trying to lighten the atmosphere a little before leaving the office.
Slipping unseen into an empty room along the corridor, Ghost locked the door and then leaned back against it before sliding to the floor. Pulling his balaclava off over his head he ran his hand through his short blond hair and probed at his throbbing nose. It wasn’t broken, although it wouldn’t have been the first time. Resting his arms on his raised knees he dropped his head and let out a deep sigh.
They had to pass through the cafe on their way back to the stairs that would take them out of the building. Jules walked beside him clutching the paper bag that held her treasured purchase. He didn’t want to leave just yet, desperate to spend more time with her.
“D’you fancy a hot chocolate?” he asked, nodding his head towards the cafe’s counter.
“Umm, yeah, we could do that,” she replied.
He ordered for them whilst she found them two seats, near the window so they could watch the world go by below.
“Here y’are,” he said, placing a mug of hot chocolate topped with all the trimmings before her.
“Cheers, Si,” Jules muttered, but he could tell she was distracted.
“What’s up, chuck?” he asked, nudging her knee under the table.
“Y’don’t…y’don’t think it’s a stupid present?” she asked timidly, nodding towards the paper bag on the table.
“Don’t be daft Jules, he’s gonna love ‘em, and if he doesn’t, I’ll ‘av ‘em,” Simon grinned, trying to reassure her. “If someone bought me Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figures for my 19th I’d be made up!”
“Is that a hint?” Jules laughed, “‘cause I’m not buyin’ you Turtles for your birthday.”
EPISODE 1
synopsis: the beginning of y/n's biggest kickoff role! paring: jujutsu kaisen actor au x y/n warnings: some cursing probably but either way, none notes: visuals are at the end of the episode and I recommend that you view them first
10:00 AM - NEW YORK CITY - THE PLAZA HOTEL (NEW YORK STATE, USA)
y/n sat on a chair in her hotel room at the Plaza Hotel in New York City
She had just finished up her MIUMIU photo shoot the previous day and was relaxing, enjoying her Belgian Waffle from room service, and watching a new episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians as her phone rang
She reached over to the chair next to her and checked the screen to see her manager calling
She paused the TV as she answered the call
"Hello?" she said, food still in her mouth
"y/n? Hello! How are you?" her manager - Kyube - asked
"I'm doing fine...enjoying the hotels room service while I can..what's up?"
"Have you checked your email yet?"
"Uhh which one? I have like 7 different accounts" she picked a strawberry from her plate
"The one where your audition results come through? Did you check it?"
"I mean I would if I could find my computer"
"Just do it on your phone"
"But I'm on call with you?"
"I'll tell you then. The role you auditioned for in Jujutsu Kaisen?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"You got the part! You'll need to head to JFK immediately. Like today. I already bought your plane tickets and your flight is red-eye. I know it's ten in the morning but since you tend to wait until the last minute to pack but please do it now"
"Twin you can drop this all on me at once"
"I just did! You'll need to leave by 8 or 9 so start getting ready by one in the afternoon. Your flight will take you to San Francisco for a layover and then over the Pacific to Japan"
"Ooookay..so 17 hours?" y/n said as she yanked her pink suitcases out of the closet
"That's right! Oh, and I'll be meeting you at the gate at SFO when you land"
"Okay, thanks for letting me know" y/n placed her Hermes shopping bags on the bed and began to take the boxes out leaving them unopened and carefully placing them in her suitcases
9:00 PM - JOHN F. KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - NEW YORK CITY (NEW YORK STATE, USA)
y/n waited by her gate after making it through the nightmare of security and baggage check
She tugged on her sweatshirt and sweatpants combo each with the Yankee logo. Naturally, she choose the most comfortable outfit for a 17 hour flight
Lowering her Yankees cap down on her head to avoid getting noticed as she ate her donuts from Dunkin'
"Gate 34, now boarding. Repeat: Gate 34, now boarding. Please proceed to Gate 34 should it be your designated gate" the announcement came from the loudspeaker and y/n wiped her mouth and threw out any trash in the nearby trashcan and she picked up her travel bag and walked to the gate
"Any passengers now boarding first class line up at the checkpoint. Repeat: Any passengers now boarding first class please line up at the checkpoint"
y/n moved over to the checkpoint and handed the flight attendant her boarding pass
The woman's eyes widened slightly as she saw who's name was on the boarding pass and y/n smiled slightly albeit awkwardly
"I'm a huge fan!" the woman whispered as she let y/n onto the plane
y/n quickly found her spot in first class and tossed her bag down and sunk into the plush chair as people began to board the plane
Before she fell asleep, a Twitter notification hit her phone but she was too lazy to check it, opting to sleep instead
9:00 PM (WESTERN TIME) - SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - SAN FRANCISCO (CALIFORNIA, USA)
y/n yawened as she got off the plane and looked around for her manager
"She should be here..." y/n muttered under her breath "hmmm...ah! There she is"
Kyube was sitting to the side in the lounge area typing away at her computer which was covered in NewJeans and Twice stickers that y/n had given her
"Kyu!" y/n called out as she walked to her manager
Kyube looked up at the sound of the girls voice "y/n! Hi love, how are you?" Kyube stood up to hug the girl. y/n was shorter than Kyube...probably since Kyube never left the house without her heels
Her manager was very beautiful and a former actress, but a past accident didn't allow her to return to her career
"I'm good, how are you?" y/n looked up at Kyube
"I'm doing fine, honey. Are you hungry? Our flight for Japan leaves in about an hour and a half, would you like to go eat?"
"Yes please"
"Alright then"
10:30 PM (WESTERN TIME) - SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - SAN FRANCISCO (CALIFORNIA, USA)
"Gate 5 now boarding. Repeat: Gate 5 is now boarding. Please proceed to Gate 5 should it be your designated gate"
y/n looked up from her finished plate as the announcement
"There we go!" Kyube stood up and took their plates to the counter
"On your feet, y/n. Time to go"
"Any passengers now boarding first class line up at the checkpoint. Repeat: Any passengers now boarding first class please line up at the checkpoint"
y/n walked to the checkpoint with her manager and Kyube handed in their boarding passes
They made their way into first class and y/n practically lunged for the comfortable seat, ready to sleep again
She put her headphones on and scrolled through the artists that she followed on Spotify to find one to fall asleep to
NOW PLAYING: ICHIKO AOBA ON SHUFFLE
She kept her eyes on the leaving city as they began to fly over the Pacific ocean
2:30 PM (ASIA TIME) - HANEDA AIRPORT - HANEDAKUKO, OTA CITY, TOKYO METROPOLITAN PREFECTURE (JAPAN)
y/n woke up to someone gently patting her arm
"y/n? y/n the plane is landing...time to wake up" Kyube moved her hand to gently pat the girls hair
"mmmm..." y/n rubbed at her eyes as she slowly opened the window and squinted her eyes to adjust to the light
Below them, Japan was coming closer and closer to the plane as it began the descent
"What time is it?" she said groggily as the plane jolted from it's landing
"2:30 pm" Kyube said as the plane slowed to a stop and the post-flight announcement came onto the loudspeaker
"C'mon honey, time to go" Kyube held her hand out for y/n to take and y/n did so hauling herself to her feet
The duo walked out of the plane and into Haneda Airport
"Are you hungry? I want to get a coffee" Kyube said as they walked deeper into the airport
"Yeah can we go to Dunkin?" y/n looked up at her manager
"Sure, but we need to get our bags first"
"'Kay"
The duo went to the baggage claim carousels and y/n placed her hands on her knees staring intently at the suitcases went by. It was a little impossible to miss her pink suitcase among the darker colored suitcases but it never hurt to be careful
Once y/n's suitcases came down the carousel, she hauled them off albeit clumsy and helped Kyube get her suitcases which were way heaver and larger than y/n's
"What on Earth do you have in those?"
"Shoes"
"Good grief"
Once they got out of the baggage claim area, they made their way to the food court to buy coffee for Kyube and donuts for y/n
"Kyube pleeeeaaasseeee!!!! pleasepleasepleaseplease!"
"No, you are getting one donut and that's it. Donuts and Tanghulu isn't a meal. You want strawberries? We'll get you a fruit bowl, but no donuts and Tanghulu together"
"Please...? I promise I won't wander around unknown areas or talk to strangers again!"
"My words are final"
"Aww man. But I'll take you up on that fruit bowl"
Kyube and y/n sat at a table in the food court. Kyube was working on y/n's upcoming schedule for and y/n was posting her dumb shit on twitter
y/n placed her phone down as she poked a piece of cantaloupe with her fork and looked to the side but she spotted two familiar people a few tables away
"Hey...Kyube?"
"Yes?"
"Who're they? They look familiar" y/n pointed a thumb to the somewhat familiar duo
Kyube looked in the direction that y/n was pointing in and squinted her eyes from behind her sharp rectangular glasses (the bayonetta glasses)
"Thats Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru...you've been in a movie with Geto once, you were young though"
"Huh...are they filming Jujutsu Kaisen too?"
"I can't tell you that"
y/n picked up her phone to scroll through twitter again and decided to eat her donut in three bites. Her eyebrows furrowed as she saw a tweet from a familiar name
y/n snickered and looked over her shoulder at Gojo and Geto. The former had moved his sunglasses onto his forehead and was gaping at his phone
'pretend like you've got no idea' she mouthed to Geto who nodded
"y/n please do not cause problems" Kyube scolded
"Alright...y/n, we need to leave now to get to the hotel in time"
"Okay" y/n stood up and threw out the now empty cup that once held fruit and the bag from the donut
She followed Kyube out of the airport and passed the table that Gojo and Geto were out giving the duo a shit-eating grin
Gojo playfully stuck his toungue out at her and she returned the gesture in the same playful manner
"Come along y/n" Kyube beckoned the girl "Our car will be here shortly"
"Coming!"
