The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) is clearly the weakest of the Disney/Walden trilogy, but the part of it that single-handedly makes me the angriest as an adaptation of the book is at the end where Alberta Scrubb yells, “Jill Pole has come to visit!” because Jill Pole Would Not Do That.

On which note, obviously the part of Prince Caspian that makes me angriest is the massacre they committed against Peter’s character, but the second worst part is when Miraz is crowned King and we hear Telmarines declaring, “Tashbaan pledges its troops!” and “Etinsmoor pledges its troops!” because Tashbaan and Etinsmoor Would Not Do That Either.

auuughhhhh im dragging my gorpse along the ground trying to keep myself wanting to finish the alliacea comic

my conflict is twofold, 1) comics just take so much gotdamn work and i cant help but feel like its not worth it. when i compare how much energy thought and actual labor go into making it, it just feels....insufficient? and this is a personal thing, the reason i feel like this is because i genuinely have negative talent when it comes to comics. this isnt hyperbolic, if you look at my comic pages before this they were genuinely unreadable. my natural "intuition" about pacing, dialog boxes, composition, panel layouts, etc is atrocious. i have no aptitude for it so it feels like a marathon where i already had to jog 15 miles just to get to the starting line. it takes a herculean amount of effort just to make it look passable.

but then again most things worth doing are hard? all art is hard? i dont know that this is any more challenging than if i told myself to draw 14 fully rendered portraits in a day.

so then that lends itself to my second issue of if i should keep pushing myself to do this thing that im bad at, but MIGHT ☝️ be extremely rewarding at the end, or return to my comfortable happy hidey hole of one-off drawings or simple 4-5 panel scenes. the debate is i cant really "do" anything with one-off drawings, they never accumulate to anything of substance BUT they are more approachable???

i dunno man its just times like this i wish i had an eunuch who could advise me on whether or not i should actually jump ship or stick it out and have him put on a little cheerleader costume to keep me going

and its like at the end of the day i get it, that like "nothing matters, just do it for you!" but like girl...i dont know what i actually want and sometimes it'd be nice if things mattered, just a lil 👌 maintaining my mental health and ego feels like trying to keep a baby's attention by jangling some keys

been thinking so much on the trailer and castorice honestly just saying 'i want to be a normal person' and immediately phainon is just so distraught but seething just as much because why shouldn't castorice be allowed to be a normal person ? the fact that her being normal and a person she considers a 'wish' when it's a right every person should have makes phainon both apalled and seething with fury and anger that the world won't give it to her; that it won't fulfill the wishes that are just normal wants of his fellow heirs who he considers to be his second family.

when aglaea says she wants to open a tailor shop and aglaea, selfless and never thinking of herself as millennia went by and she lost so much of herself, yet never strayed from her beliefs, her drive for helping humanity regardless of how it mistreated her, regardless of parts of her slipping away, the core parts of her remained and were not unnoticed, he's just as silently heated, in a quiet yet firm kind of way (joshua's delivery in particular) saying simply without hesitation on his wording, 'it wouldn't be bad to live for yourself. '

and it's ironic because in this trailer castorice dies for aglaea, when in canon, aglaea herself staged her death for the flame-chase journey and for phainon's success as the one to inherit her leadership role and wishes just as with each patch, phainon is constantly receiving the wishes of others, in short, he's a vessel of wishes and desires for humanity, which leaves room for him to back his own words almost...ironic? contradictory given the deliverer can't really have wishes.

he hears his fellow heirs wishes, and as the deliverer, as the person who has the hopes and dreams not just of the common people but his own comrades on his shoulders ( ignoring their 'prophecies' or not ), and a part of him is genuinely furious that the world has been so cruel that they think of their wants as wishes when everyone should be born to want and feel it's alright to want, which is a contradiction for phainon, ironically, who feels he cannot want himself.

this is shown a lot with his brief flashback with anaxa in aedes elysiae's wheat fields, ' phainon of aedes elysiae, what is your dream ? ' and i think a lot of people consider this, and given phainon at his core, while complicated and full of humanity and contradictions, is simple in his wish, but in the trailer for 3.4 / his release, we don't see him able to even answer it before the images switch from farmland to flames.

' in truth - i just want . . . ' but we never hear phainon's wish, but we can see an inkling of what it may be in the images and memories he has of those around him, those he loves and those he works to protect.

and he never has an answer, but we see him and unsurprisingly most of his wishes involve the other chrysos heirs and innocent civilians and children, we see him among the people, we see aglaea, mydei, children eerily resembling castorice and polyxia, we see people that aren't suffering and in pain, we see people safe and happy.

we see no endless loss and tragedy or death; and i think that's the most complicated yet simple wish a person could have - which fits and aligns with phainon's character as a whole. a complicated and troubled character with simple desires that are so out of reach that they have become more myth than normalcy, and not just something phainon alone struggles with, but all of the main characters of amphoreus.

that happiness and natural human want has become a fairy tale to those he loves, that is what makes phainon seethe and hurt. and if the 'deliverer' is a vessel of humanity's collective wishes, prayers and hopes for not just salvation in a ruined world, but their own lives finding happiness and safety, things you shouldn't have to beg for, then that fury and quiet he keeps well concealed burns all the brighter in him.

he wants people he loves and those around him to live safe, happy lives where wants are not so farfetched that they are considered a luxury or a 'wish' but a common day occurrence, something they had a right to ever since they were born. that people are denied this because of the tragedy of life in amphoreus and 'fate' as a whole, something phainon clearly wishes to crush underfoot if it causes nothing but heartache - is an endless source of fury to a long kindling spark and flame.

basically phainon at this point is a powderkeg, a spark near a bomb, he's so many things. he's rampantly insecure beneath a veneer of confidence, he's terrified of losing anything dear to him and out of a genuinely good nature and equal measures desperation to not see more lost, he works himself without care for himself to the point of borderline fatal abandon, he utterly has no regards for himself and sees himself more as an object of other's hopes and desires than someone who can have his own desires.

something he seems all too easy to be content with in contrast to the others. he's a walking contradiction of concealed anger, trauma and rampant grief warring versus a good nature, a kind heart, and like aglaea says spot-on, a deep sensitivity to the people around him, a deep empathy for their suffering, something made more potent given his role as the 'one who bears the world'. the one meant to save amphoreus, the one meant to hold the desires of all save for one: himself.

he is so many things, and he is so painfully human and flawed, and it's these things that will ultimately determine how his story and the word 'fate' which he so vehemently wishes to defy and deny, turn out. in either victory or futility. that tenderness and goodness and fury can all co-mingle together with fear and courage, each good 'trait' phainon has is also given a very human flaw .

and i'm sure phainon has and had plenty of wishes. but if there's one thing absolutely certain is that he wants everyone to be able to live happily and without suffering if it can be helped, without war and grief, without duties and having to abandon one's self.

'if suffering has an end, then i will become the deliverer. '

and if it doesn't, it's all about who phainon means to become no matter how many times he has to defy 'fate'. / personals / non-rp blogs please don't reblog <3.

SOMETHING I REALLY LOVE ABOUT TQ IS THE LODGE

lmfao but fr tho, from the moment you step foot into hackett lodge, it feels warm, and it feels homey, and it feels lived in - a stark contrast to blackwood lodge, which is, from the prologue, cold and austere and menacing. in ud, you know the lodge isn't safe from the get-go. you hold your breath when you're exploring it, jumping at every creak of the floorboards. hackett lodge, on the other hand, just.......it's wood paneled and cozy. when the golden hour light comes in through the slats of the blinds, it feels nostalgic. safe. the creaks and sighs of it settling on its bones are expected and almost welcome. it is comfortable, it is maybe a little warmer than you want it to be, it smells faintly of sap and someone else's laundry detergent.

and it is a death trap.

Chris takes are always a bit too polar to me to the point where I like slightly disagree with all of them. Like:

“Chris is a pure angel.”

Hm well, he is capable of shooting an innocent squirrel and can sacrifice Ash to save himself in the saw trap (which is a baaad situation I can empathize with but is not right or heroic). He can also lose his temper a few times and poke fun at people just to be annoying.

“Chris was just as much of a meanie as his friends. He’s a total asshole.”

That’s a little bit too intense, imo. The story doesn’t act like that. I think Chris is meant to somewhat offset the general meanness of the cast. The devs have spoken about this when explaining why he was removed from the prank. Chris’s intro card and app bio emphasize his affability, loyalty, and protectiveness towards his friends— which we see in-game a lot. Additionally, there’s the matter than all his truly bad moments are player-choice and can be avoided. So, while I think that Chris is a multi-sided character who may get infantilized as more innocent than he really is… I also think there’s sometimes not enough credit given to why fans do tend to view him as a good dude: that’s what’s emphasized about his character. Certain other characters hold asshole-qualities as emphasized traits. For example:

The game lists “irreverent” as a core personality trait of Jess in her intro card. Emily’s bio calls her a bitch, and Mike’s claims he has a streak of narcissism. And this is all shown in-game. One of Hill’s segments points out that Emily is a bitch and that Mike is an asshole. (Yes I know it’s Josh thinking that, but it’s also directed at the player). This is not a character-defining aspect of Chris, even though he has it in snippets. Like look at the difference in the overall emphasis of kind and mean qualities in these basic bios.

MY THESIS HERE— I tend to sit somewhere in the middle of these takes. It doesn’t make sense to deny that Chris can do some bad or jerky things. But I also don’t think people viewing him as an overall sweeter character within this cast is without a basis. He’s actively characterized as a loving friend, which we see on screen a lot.

PS: Btw, this is an analysis on what the story intended with Chris, and why I don’t think people reading him as nicer than most of the cast is a misreading. But one’s personal opinions on each of his actions gets subjective, certainly. Can’t argue with that. And there’s a point where you could just disagree with the tone the story puts on him. I’ve done that with characters in the past, but I largely agree with how the story handles Chris and think it does align with how he behaves.
