Heya! I went to the Flashback Horror Convention in Chicago on Friday, August 1st! There was one Michael Myers cosplayer that I really liked (we’re talking as in like I got pictures with them and we blew each other a kiss good bye) and I was wondering if they were out there!?
I might repost this on instagram as well (@minor_rigor_mortis) with a few pictures from the event but I’m not 100? but I do really want to find him
If you know of anyone who went or might know of them, please help me find them! I know they had a thingy in their mask that made it sound like they were breathing really heavy (just like Michael!) when close up and they had a shiny kn¡fe (prop).
If they ever mentioned a girl in a Rolling Stones shirt with black hair, that would be me! I was with my sister who cosplayed Svengoolie, my mother and her male friend.
I will add a picture (or few) to this post later!
Pictures added! VV
I dunno it might sound stupid but I think he liked me and I didn’t get his socials or anything and just kyfkuoflylhclh! I really hope I can find them

the core idea i'm working with concerning the jjk finale discourse is that people are mad about the wrong things.
I have had serious problems with the writing in jjk since at least shibuya, and I even found criticism in the hidden inventory arc and the sister school exchange arc (though the main problem there is that it was boring pre-disaster curses and the characters suck).
Similar to Game of Thrones, some people were criticizing the broken writing choices as far back as seasons 3 and 4 while most people were glazing the series until the cracks in the foundation caused the entire story to crumble right at the end, leaving most of the fanbase confused how it "suddenly" got so bad.
The commonly held sentiment is that JJK fell off after Shibuya. I disagree. I think it fell off during Shibuya where the entire worldbuilding, power system, and plot broke irreparably.
HOWEVER where JJK never fell off was in character writing, relationship writing, and the overall themes of the story which were all consistent, had strong throughlines, were well integrated into the action (another strength), and were in my opinion, the core appeal of the the entire project.
And yet, most of what I hear people complaining about is either a) missing or dissatisfying character moments and a lack of satisfying exploration of the themes, or b) contradictory outrage over plot and worldbuilding elements not lining up as if these issues haven't been there from the start.
I know a lot of people don't operate this way, but when there are fundamental problems with the storytelling, but there are other parts of the story that I find incredibly meaningful and impactful, I find it really easy to glaze over those problems and even justify and rewrite them in my head so they make more sense. When good character writing shows up in JJK, I stop caring that the plot sucks.
The finale chapters of JJK had amazing character writing, delivered on the main themes of the story, and made literally all the broken plot elements, lack of focus, and shoddy worldbuilding secondary concerns for me. They don't break the important parts of the story, I don't care that they aren't wrapped up because I didn't like them in the first place, and their lack of exploration just cedes more ground to fan creation allowing the story to thrive for years into the future.
If you were reading JJK for the complicated plot, complex scheming, or intricate worldbuilding, I can see why you're upset, but you made a mistake a long time ago because that stuff has sucked for ages. But I know most of you fuckers on this website were reading for good characters, impactful themes about love, and yaoi bait, so why are you mad????? I really don't get it.
Who cares that the shittily written American Military subplot didn't come back? The fucking basis of the power system doesn't make any sense and isn't well thought out, so how was it ever going to deliver on the solution/potential for cursed energy? You're mad that the random New Shadow School subplot was randomly thrown in at the end, I've been mad since that random fucking grasshopper showed up in the fucking subway!
And some of you are literally admitting YOU DIDN'T EVEN READ THE TRANSLATED CHAPTERS so how would you KNOW if the story themes and character writing had been delivered on? based on summaries? that is the absolute worst delivery system for a story, you have to know this. you're getting mad at machine translations of out of context pages like WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
In conclusion, most of you are mad at the wrong things and none of what I wrote up there is really about what the things you should be mad about are, because they don't matter. The point of a story is to mean something and JJK did. It was always good at what it was good at, and I wish people were engaging more with the story in it's own domain instead of being mad it wasn't exactly what they wanted it to be. The finale delivered on everything that made me care about this story. It made me love it even more, and I'm never going to regret spending so much time on this series. Everything else is just criticism for fun.

Father has informed me that -rubs temples- We can no longer see ourselves as binary participants; that is, that we cannot hide behind simply being of the World- that we are beginning to break into the broader network of.... whatever level of politics that this is beyond simply the stage of the Collective.
#torchlit thoughts#I.... have so many thoughts on that revelation#I dont even know “what” I'm being counted as anyways? like okay so -checks notes- Im being dragged into larger scale implied divine politic#but HOW do I relate to that? WHAT exactly am I representing on the grander stage?#flashbacks to the conversation about conventions for various reapers to network and discuss underworld issues

nooooo....why do you hate chakway??? it's cute 😢
born too early to tolerate chakway 😔 born too late to tolerate JetC 😔 born just in time to fail a college-level history course because i stayed up every night for eight weeks reading every voyager fic on trekiverse.org on a shared library computer
#it's a personal problem. i can accept that it's me#i don't remember if there was a jetc equivalent for tom and b'elanna#i think for most ships the convention was to default to the kirk/spock derived initial/initial#i don't know why picard/crusher and janeway/chakotay got special corny abbreviations OR why they annoy me#it should give me fond flashbacks to my first fic experiences!! and yet. i want to rip my 56k modem out of the wall#it's a personal problem!!!

Found out my bf was cheating on me last week and decided to sit with it to figure out what do because we were together for like four years and I was thinking it’s something we could work through.
But yesterday i accidentally interrupted a zoom call he was in for work (literally walked in, apologized, walked out and closed door) and after he got off it he 1) yelled a shit ton which is pretty unusual for him and 2) told me he hoped all my favorite characters died.
THAT FUCKER KNOWS IM CATCHING UP ON JJK
Anyway he’s my ex now
1) I’m so sorry you so didn’t deserve that at all and it’s always a sucky thing to have happen
2) I was already very proud of your restraint when you decided to sit with it for a while and process because my anger issues could never and that’s so impressive to me
3) The line drawn in the sand here is very funny even if the rest of the situation isn’t because like I’ve left a guy for a lot of reasons and you gave three valid ones here but it was in fact the character one that made me audibly gasp
4) I’m sorry again and I wish you all the best
#the elf talks#this is giving me flashbacks to when I dumped a man for an anime convention#and tbh didn’t regret a thing#have I told that story here?

I think that the 90s American IWTV comics get a bad rap for being "ugly" but honestly I love when the character designs are allowed to get rougher/ more monstrous

Proud og canon Louis hater#and while the Devil's Minion comic version is more like#beautiful in a conventional sense the twins flashback is so racist.#dw I will be doing panel redraws with the superior cast#drama txt

Collection of very unhinged quotes from this book I’m reading for a history class, the bibliography of Catalina de Erauso (which was translated from Spanish though the original is quite funny as well)
#soni rambles#‘i was ordered to be arrested i have no idea why’ *flashbacks to the billions of times they killed someone*#i say they cause ANOTHER interesting thing about Catalina is that she was put in a convent but then ran away from the convent#and became a man and went to peru and became a soldier and just did a bunch of stuff living as a man#and then he eventually confessed to having been a woman but its never really clear what gender they’re supposed to be#so pronouns wise im just kinda using anything#cause also ideas of one’s gender in that time (like 1600s something) would have been so vastly different from our own today#history

got caught up on skybound and I think its really interesting how the current theme with the main seeker trio is a loss of agency - thundercracker, his is being unable to spare those that he had decided to spare, Starscream - Megatron's apparent mind control? and then having his mobility relegated to a remote control tank when he's brought back by the humans, Skywarp was plain and simple turned into computer parts to be a puppet processor for teletraan and then made to work for people he didn't necessarily want to work for
#honestly the theme is more widespread than just those three#but my brain is latching onto them for the moment to try and piece together coherent theories#and delve into what the goal of their characterizations are in the series#If the flashback was meant to be starscream is a poor victim who was mind controlled until he succumbed and became what he is now#it certainly falls flat#like yes the implication is perhaps there was some fiddling with his processor#and we can surmise that he had morals#and standards#at one point#and that cybertronians have the geneva convention (that megatron violated)#but the whole mind control is the whole cause doesn't really give us much depth to work with#where's his motives!!!#his desires at the time!!!#but it does make his current actions interesting in the sense that he WILL NOT be controlled#no matter who it is

For some reason I remember Katia screaming "MOMMY" in one of the flashback sequences, but it hasn't turned up in any recent rewatch or in looking at the transcripts.
Therefore it is entirely possible Katia referred to her mother as "Amma" and we never would have known (but we should have).
#hitman: agent 47#katia van dees#katia's mother#illakiyamathi#i hold that the actual language in the flashbacks is either russian or tamil#but bc it's katia remembering and she understood perfectly#translation convention applies and we get the backstory dialogue in english like the rest of the film

All these cyberpunk-themed tabletop RPGs on itch.io and not one of them that aims for the vibe of those goofy-ass Canadian YA cyberpunk shows that aired on YTV back in the 1990s. You know the ones:
the protagonist is named something safely conventional like Kyle or Jake, while every single other kid is sporting a moniker like "Glitch" or "Fractal" or "K C" with absolutely no indication that these aren't the names their parents gave them
everybody's wearing an eleven-year-old white kid's idea of what hip-hop fashion looks like, except for the ambiguously teenage principal villain, who's sporting a Spirit Halloween knockoff of a random military uniform
90% of the show is clearly filmed in some anonymous industrial park, apart from a handful of flashbacks which were probably shot in the producer's house
the writing seems to be unclear on the distinction between "hacker" and "wizard"; there's a strong possibility none of the writers have ever actually used a computer in their lives
Ryan Reynolds is there
I swear I'll write it myself if I have to.

Why Aziraphale is completely ridiculous in the Bastille scene (and I love him so much for it)
A while ago I posted a comparison of Aziraphale and Crowley's costumes in the 1793 flashback in Good Omens and I wanted to add these little tidbits. (Because they haunt me.)
I feel like most people know this but IF YOU DON'T, Paris in 1793 is right in the middle of something called La Terreur.
HISTORY LESSON If you didn't learn this in school the French Revolution was when, after years of escalating social tension, a coalition representing the working classes of France revolted against the monarchy, violently overthrew King Louis XVI, and declared France to be a republic.
The new National Convention governing France ruled that King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette were traitors to the people of France because of how they had spent ridiculous amounts of money on luxuries for themselves while vast numbers of the lower classes were literally starving to death. (keep the bold in mind - wealth and class disparities were one of the key causes of the whole-ass revolution)
In 1793 (year of the flashback) both the King and Queen were executed by guillotine for their crimes.
This kicks of something called The Reign of Terror (La Terreur if you want to be French about it). A multi-year-long period in which the National Convention goes on a bloody witch hunt for any and every member of the middle or upper classes who could even possibly be considered a traitor by those same standards.
If you A) had money or privilege, and B) had ever used your money or privilege to treat yourself, you were getting executed. Over 25,000 people died during the Reign of Terror, half of them by guillotine. In fact, the iconic guillotine was used because it was physically impossible to keep up with the sheer number of people they were executing in Paris every single day.
Some things that could get you killed (actually and completely seriously) during the Reign of Terror:
Implying in any way you were sympathetic to the monarchy
Having a noble title
Having expensive things
Wearing expensive, luxurious clothes (*cough* AZIRAPHALE)
helping or sympathizing with anyone who did any of the above
a working-class person saying you were mean to them once
And then there's this bitch...
I AM NOBILITY PLEASE KILL ME So we have established that Paris in 1793 is in the middle of a frenzied, state-sanctioned bloodbath in which the working classes are massacring everyone even remotely nobility-adjacent. And in the middle of this frenzy, Aziraphale proceeds to roll up in Paris in this outfit:
How will this outfit get him killed? Let me count the ways...
First off- at this point everyone with even the tiniest shred of self- preservation is hiding the fact that they are in any way associated with the monarchy. The wealthy are straight-up abandoning mansions. The middle-class are plastering over decorations to make their house look 'poor'. The only people dressed remotely decent are the guys leading the National Convention and that's just because nobody can stop them. Everyone else is in 24/7 peasant cosplay or else they are covering themselves in cockades and sashes on to show they're pro-Republic.
Aziraphale is basically a giant shiny white sign saying I AM NOBILITY PLEASE KILL ME.
First off the lace jabot and lace cuffs are both associated with the old-school wealthy in the 1790's.
His coat is also decorated in gold braid and silver buttons, which are both marks of wealth and luxury.
He basically looks like he works for Louis XIV - not just rich, but old school rich.
We know it's his natural hair color, but hair powdering (with clay and starch) had been a big trend with the rich all throughout the 18th century to get that clean white venerable look . To someone who doesn't know it's natural, it would very much look like he's wearing hair powder.
He's wearing shades of cream and white, which are very hard to keep clean and clearly states that the wearer is rich and can afford the upkeep necessary to keep an outfit like that stain-free.
He's wearing white knee-breeches and stockings, also called culottes. See above about laundry and how rich you had to be to wear white, but also working-class men wore long pants like this:
A large faction involved in the Revolution were the Sans-Culottes (no-culottes aka we wear long pants LIKE GOOD OLD WORKING MEN). Culottes are specifically associated with everything the revolution hated. That's right - Aziraphale is literally wearing The Fanciest of Fancy Pants in a city where a group called The Men Against Fancy Pants are running around murdering people.
And then there are his shoes.
Oh god his shoes
I could do a whole post about Aziraphale's blessed little white satin pumps and how ridiculous they are.
Actually I might just do that because this is getting so long and I still have to talk about the brioche.
So I can't remember if it's in the script book or if it's from Neil Gaiman's tumblr, but it's apparently canon (?) that Aziraphale was going around in that outfit asking people where he could get crepes and brioche when he was arrested.
The Affair of the Brioches
So... uh... we've all heard the line attributed to Marie Antoinette- how when she was told that her people were starving because there was no bread left in Paris, she famously said...
It's morphed into 'let them eat cake', but the line is first recorded as, "Then let them eat brioches."
While it's unlikely she ever actually said it, the important thing is that... people in 1793 would have thought she said it. It was used as political smear to show how arrogant and out of touch the monarchy was. Marie Antoinette in particular was reviled by the people of France, who thought she was the main cause of their economic problems. That's why she was executed too.
Bread and brioche and the lines between poverty and privilege were a big thing in Revolutionary France. There was a lot of political connotation to what you ate. The French Revolution came about because of decades of suffering among the lower classes of France. It wasn't something that some dudes just decided to do. The people of Paris have been through years of the absolute worst, most oppressive poverty and starvation you can imagine, all while watching the rich throw money around crazy.
So let us recap.
Aziraphale is dressed so ridiculously posh that he looks like a joke parody of a nobleman... and he is bumbling around Paris during the Reign of Terror. Asking people. For brioche. How I imagine everyone looked at him:
It is so astoundingly tone deaf and tactless. He is basically cosplaying as Marie Antoinette and then going around asking the poor for cake.
I just.... Aziraphale. babygirl. no. oh no. You're lucky they even bothered to take you to prison. I am amazed Crowley ever let him live that down.
I have no conclusion other than this. Aziraphale is ridiculous and I love him so much.
YES YOU REALLY SHOULD SIR.
