I've been accusing this building of giving me the middle finger every time I see the Manhattan skyline since it went up, and learning how shitty it is and how bad the architect is has made me feel more than justified in my assessment
Apparently the 1300Â ft trash chute in 432Â Park Avenue does not have any breaks or offsets in it to slow down the garbage so stuff thrown away at the top floors easily reaches terminal velocity and sounds like bombs going off when it hits the bottom.

Hiiđđ
I'm curious, based of your experience, what is your first impression of each rising sign ??
âHello đ
Personal experiences with the rising signs
Note that these do not reflect the entirety of those with the rising signs mentioned, these are just my personal opinions of people I've met in real life with these placements.
àčàź Aries risings:
All the aries risings I've met up to this point are very direct. They look like they bite but really don't. Also, a lot of them kind of look & act like a dumbass (in the best way possible). The edge lords with no filter, no patience, no tolerance, but most of all no bullshit.
If they call you an ass that's a term of endearment lmao. Sarcasm is their love language, jokes and wit are their strong suits. They're the ones that will debate you just for fun (the guys especially).
Intense, passionate and lively. They always look mad for some reason but they swear they aren't. It's like their eyebrows are just angled that way naturally. I love being around them though. It's always refreshing.
First impression in a single sentence: Annoyingly charming.
àčàź Taurus risings:
Literally the most patient and chill people I've ever met. Super friendly, slightly dorky. Perhaps it's because I have Taurus in my 3rd house, but I'm usually at ease around them. Although, sometimes it's rather awkward when we run out of things to say lol.
I'd say they are the goofiest people I've ever met.
First impression in a single sentence: Fun but kind of awkward.
àčàź Gemini risings:
Very talkative. Very friendly. Always seem to have some sort of new gossip or topic to think about. They do tend to be a bit two-faced at times especially when it involves gossiping, however I've noticed that if they have sun or moon here they are rather passive aggressive. By that I mean they don't "split faces" or pretend to like something as much compared to those without it. How do I say it .. they have more integrity?
It's not like all the gossip is bad, sometimes they comment on the right stuff but just hide their distaste rather than facing any sort of confrontation.
Maybe it's because my 4th house is Gemini, but I sort of have a hit or miss relationship with Gemini Suns & risings. They tend to "mother" me quite often. Perhaps they remind me of some traits my mother has? Both good & bad. I tend to have a love hate relationship with them for some reason, but I don't dislike Gemini.
There's sometimes this codependent feel whenever I'm around them. But Gemini moons? Those are my bffs lmaoo.
First impression in a single sentence: Gretchen Wieners
àčàź Cancer risings:
The sweetest most genuine people I've ever met, regardless of their gender. They are always honest with what they're trying to communicate. (Although most cancer risings I know have either sun or moon in the first house)
Note: I'm realising now I know quite a handful of people with sun/moon in their 1st house.
First impression in a single sentence: "I can't believe people like you still exist."
àčàź Leo risings:
Omg. They are super friendly & very caring. They definitely are divas in their own right. Very expressive especially when it comes to their makeup or looks. They love accessories, and outfits that stand out.
I have a leo rising friend with moon & jupiter in her 1st house. Girl, lemme tell you she is extra. Contact lenses, head accessories, heels, the works. She's very confident of herself as well. Posting videos & photos of herself often.
There is a bit of a temper but it's not that prominent & doesn't really last long either. Still, I've never met a single Leo rising that is selfish. Self obsessed yes, but not without the heart to match.
First impression in a single sentence: The bigger the hair the bigger the heart.
àčàź Virgo risings:
Edge lord II. There are three types of virgo rising that I usually meet. The self deprecating, the self obsessed perfectionist & the one in the middle.
On one hand, they are a super deadpan, no bullshit typa person then on the other, they are extremely self focused and sensitive towards judgement but super judgemental themselves. Then on the otherr other hand, they couldn't care less about what you think.
Very analytical, as you'd expect from Virgos. I always notice them looking around or at me trying to evaluate their surroundings lol. I appreciate their sense of thoughtfulness.
If they're nice, they're really nice but if they're immature or have issues with confidence or control especially then it's very evident. Still, I don't dislike them by any means. Virgo is my descendant I guess I'm a sucker for an edge lord lmaoo. Maybe that's why I keep marrying Sebastian in Stardew Valley.
First impression in one sentence: Okay Sasha Fierce/ 'cause tonight will be the night that I will fall ferr yeww ovar againnâ âȘ
àčàź Libra risings:
They are usually very sweet & open to communication. The ones I've met in real life are very intuitive, or at least are somewhat of a deep thinker. However, some of them tend to judge things based on looks quite fast lol. Other than that though, they usually have very good (fair) judgement & good values.
They are usually very pretty (conventionally attractive). With symmetrical oval shaped faces and a gorgeous resting face. They just look like an ad.
However, I have a housemate with a libra rising & aquarius degree and she's.. well you wouldn't expect her to be a Libra rising based on her looks. It's not like she's ugly, no. Her features just differ from what you'd expect from a Libra rising.
Also, she tends to be rather biased at times. Saying that one thing is bad, but she acts on something else which isn't "applaudable" by any means.
First impression in a single sentence: Clueless' Cher meets Karen Smith
àčàź Scorpio risings:
These are the asian baby girls or "goth chicks". Their favourite colour is usually black or purple. Normally I see them with tattoos or dyed hair. These are my people though, they are very inquisitive. A lot of the scorpio risings I know like to ask questions. Sometimes very.. strange or intense questions.
I love how genuine they are to themselves however, speaking their mind and expressing their feelings through their expressions. Some of them tend to be... Reclusive? They see themselves as this dark entity, either too smart for the others to comprehend or dismissive of what people have to say about them.
Although, I've never met a scorpio rising who isn't slightly obsessed with themselves lmao.
First impressions in a single sentence: I bet they listen to Mitski & Lana Del Rey.
àčàź Sagittarius risings:
I feel like people tend to sleep on how attractive Sagittarius risings are. Like, they're giving face, body, curves and everything in between. I have an older friend (27-28) and she's just so pretty. Especially when she smiles. Ngl but I did side eye her man a couple times during their wedding.
Usually very active outdoors as well.
Most of the guys I've met with this placement are rather religious. Like, the type to debate over it. The men are quite preachy (at least the ones I've met are). Most of them are reliable and fun to be around. Certified yappers.
First impression in a single sentence: The bigger the brain the hotter the person, I just hope they don't get too big now.
àčàź Capricorn risings:
Usually, the people I met with this placement give a pretty cold attitude towards the things around them. Their muscles on their faces are usually tense or there's this resting b face there. Sometimes they look like they're in a hurry to do something but you see them doing nothing in particular after lol.
They look like they've got shit to do & their lives together. Either that or they look rather unmotivated lmao. When you're talking for the first few times, there's usually no expression on their face. They'll just blink every now & then.
They are competitive too which is something you'd normally expect from an Aries more than anything.
First impression in a single sentence: "They are so practical."
àčàź Aquarius risings:
Weirdest mfs alive. Both male & female. Also tend to be the loudest (but differs depending on the degree it's in), though still charming in a way. They tend to be very chill and always down to hang with whoever. Usually always laughing at their own jokes or something they thought of randomly. They tend to be very intuitive, although it manifests differently with every aquarius rising I've met (whether their focus is on society or themselves). There's this tunnel vision aspect as well. They are genuine to a fault lol. The ones I've met personally are a little wild or quirky, always doing their own thing.
Very opinionated usually. Always trying to look at the big picture.
First impression in a single sentence: "I mean, if it works for you great."
àčàź Pisces risings:
They are a little erratic, a little strange and other worldly in a way. When you look at them, at times you'll notice that they aren't really there. Their interests are always different from the people around them.
Some of them tend to have this victim mentality to them, but I think it's just because most of the ones I met were when I was younger. They're probably just as immature as other kids at the time.
Very spiritual regardless if they follow any specific religion or not, I've never met a pisces rising (or w the degree) that isn't open to the idea of a higher power or karmic cycles. This seems to be true especially as they grow older. They also always have some sort of connection to music.
First impression in a single sentence: "I wonder if their mind is at Jupiter right now"

best comment thus far: "forced to get a wobbly tribal arm band due to a lack of finances."
Making my own post because I'm Not Touching That, saw someone's take of "I like it when people have big tattoos so I can have a visual cue of how good they are at making life choices", because good tattoos ain't cheap and cheap tattoos ain't good, so someone having a neat and tidy high quality tattoo of something absolutely ridiculous says a lot about what kind of choices they make as a person.
And someone commented "um sorry but some people can't afford to get good tattoos??? Some people are poor??" and this whole time my entire life I had thought that people who make good life choices, and can't afford to get a good tattoo, would rather have no tattoos than bad tattoos. Like damn.

The Igor looked up.
"Good morning, thur. And you are...?"
"Moist von Lipwig," said Moist. "And you would be Igor."
"Got it in one, thur. I have heard many good thingth about you."
"Down here?"
"I alwayth keep an ear to the ground, thur."
Moist resisted the impulse to look down. Igors and metaphors didn't go well together.

Sometimes, I play them videosgames
I've been trying a bunch of Steam Next Fest demos and I must crown three kings:
I've had my eye on Mohrta for a while and it does not disappoint. A little bit of collision jank and some performance quibbles, but great levels, satisfying gunplay and very intriguing setting. The sound design deserves special mention, it really sells the weird worlds you're traipsing through.
HARK THE GHOUL has the chonky graphics I crave, and is also a fantastically weird setting that is very compelling. I find King's Field type games usually a bit on the simplistic side mechanically, but with the kick and the various items/weapon types, this one spices thing up and I want to see where it goes.
Poke ALL Toads is a decent puzzler and I enjoyed solving how to avoid retribution while annoying all amphibians, but what really got me was the wonderful animation work. Just peak charm on every frame that had me failing on purpose so I could see every animated interaction of this smug little pest of a fairy (gave me that Battle Chess nostalgia, but better because toad-based puzzling).
Not quite a king, but Project Silverfish gets honorary Baron status:
It's got very good atmosphere and I think it's shaping up great but I feel like it's missing a *something* to really take off, just not sure what (it could just be a polish thing, this is apparently quite the early build). Keeping an eye on it though, it's got the potential for kingliness.

First Impressions
Tucker's first impression of the Addams family is that the whole lot of em are weird - which says a lot considering he's lived his whole life in Amity Park. He thought their whole dark and gloomy schtick was gonna be like Sam's but it turns out they're on a whole other level of creepy and messed up. They weren't the worst people he's ever met and he's relieved that Danny's finally got relatives who seem to actually care about his wellbeing - stupidly rich relatives who weren't obsessive, egotistical, psychopaths who were willing to donate a little green without any strings attached.
But their butler moans and moves like he was just yanked out of a grave and somehow the guy might actually be taller than Mr Fenton.
Their kids are weird but not so bad. Wednesday's dreary attitude could give Sam a run for her money and Pugsley had seemed nice till he'd pulled out a hack saw and an entire string of small explosives from seemingly nowhere (Tucker was finally seeing the Fenton family resemblance).
He had downright refused to step foot into that house after almost having a heart attack from his first encounter with the reanimated, disembodied hand that's got free range of the entire estate.
The grandmother belongs either in an asylum or an urn. She wears so many rings and necklaces and odd pieces of jewellery that she jingles and jangles with every step, yet somehow manages to pop up right behind you every time you turn around.
And Uncle Fester had straight-up serial killer vibes.
The only upside seemed to be the parents.
Mrs Morticia Addams had a figure reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit and wore a dress so tight he almost went half ghost. Sharp features, blood-red lipstick, legs for days and a hauntingly elegant presence. She was like one of those sirens of the deep. Not the kind that befriended seagulls or made questionable deals with tentacled sea witches, but the kind that sat poised on rocks and lured sailors to their watery graves.
He'd initially been so bewitched by Mrs Addams' dark, gleaming eyes that he'd ignored the other dark and handsome figure beside her.
Mr Gomez Addams was a man befitting his shiny cuff links, dapper suit and expensive cologne. He had greeted them with a mesmerising accent and dreamy bedroom eyes.
Mrs Addams stood, poised like a panther, held by a man who walked like he owned the world, and Tucker found himself suddenly besotted with the idea of unhinged grandmothers, murderous uncles, rabid cousins and the lot.
Honestly, the Addamsses are absolutely lovely people. If only he could convince Danny to visit more often.

First Impressions;
As far as first impressions go, Mikey and Hassan got off to a rough start. Mikey spent the better part of a full day behind Hassanâs law office, commissioned to add a mural to the back wall to deter graffiti. Too bad Hassan forgot his assistant had hired him, because when he was leaving the office for the night, he mistook Mikey for a criminalâŠ
âHey kid, what the fuck? Canât you go do this shit in the Bowery?âÂ
Mikeyâs eyes narrowed at the figure approaching him, the irritated tone shooting through him like a lance. The man was tall (not as tall as his brothers had grown, but still well taller than Mikey himself- who only stood at 5'8), with dark skin and black hair rich in the bath of the LED light. His suit was crisp and well-fitted, and he stood with a leather satchel strapped over his shoulder, one hand on his hip as he narrowed his eyes at the mutant.Â
âCâmon,â the man was rumbling in a chastising tone. âThey just cleaned the last graffiti up.âÂ
Dark eyes swept an irritated glance over Michelangelo, and it suddenly clicked in his mind what was being implied. Mikey felt a wash of annoyance roll through his shoulders.Â
âWow, youâre really fucking dumb,â Mikey clipped, and the man who stood before him narrowed his gaze.Â
âExcuse-â
âRead your emails much? How many taggers do you think set up a flood light and announce their presence, you walnut?â Mikey snapped, shaking the can in his hand idly and giving the man an eye roll that was all Donatello- perfected by years of watching his older brother perform the motion. âYou think I just, what? Roll out the red carpet for the cops orâŠ?âÂ
The conversation only deteriorated from there, though Hassan did try to apologize (too bad he never really seems sincere).Â
âFuck you, man,â Mikey barked. âIâm a full-ass adult. I pay taxes.â (He didnât, but the hell if he was going to share that with Mister Prim-and-Proper.)
âExcuse me for being skeptical, short stack.âÂ
Mikeyâs eyes went round. âShort stack?! Short stack?!â
The man smirked, and Mikey held back the desire to throw the spray can right at his forehead.Â
âTiny, even,â the man added, white teeth flashing. âPocket-sized.â
Eventually, though, the two of them begin a very will-they-wonât-they relationship, comprised of Hassan sending Mikey gifts, and random text messages that multiply over the course of two years.
Theyâll probably figure out theyâre in love⊠probablyâŠ
Some songs for the ~vibe~

Pick A Pile Reading
đ(Left to Right- Pile 1, Pile 2, Pile 3)đ
Hello, Senstea Souls!đ©·
Here's another collective reading! Make sure you pick your pile/piles intuitively.đ«
Book a personal reading with me:-

Pile 1đź-
âUnbelievable!â That's the word that pops up in people's minds when they look at you for the very first time. You come across as bold and someone who is not afraid to take up their space. As soon as you say a word, people know that you're a beauty with a brain. Your aura is charismatic and mysterious. People can never truly know your business and can never guess the challenges you have been through. You come off as confident and minding your own business. People may even envy your independent nature. They wonder how someone like you can exist with so much grace and uniqueness in a society where everyone follows a routine.
Pile 2đź-
Okayyyyyyy, pile 2! People can easily pick up on your intense aura. They can sense the depths of your sorrow. When they see you for the first time, they just know that you've been through something really difficult that has turned you into who you are today. You're giving me âvampireâ vibes. Vampires are charming, but there's an air of fear around them. Gloominess. You need to work on your shadows and release the negative thought patterns. People can see that you're sharp and witty. But at the same time, they know that if you heal yourself, you're capable of so much more!
Pile 3đź-
You come across as very friendly and soft-spoken when you meet people for the first time. Though you are reserved, people find your talk quite alluring. They know that you don't mess around with fake connections. They know you're here for a real deal with people. Others can easily pick up that you're sensitive and caring. You like collaborating with like-minded people, and that's why others wonder what the right words are to say to you so that they can be a part of your close circle. You come across as otherworldly. Others know that they can probably never hold the capability to feel as deeply as you do and can never understand how someone can be so kind, generous, and peace-loving. They know that being in your world is a privilege.

First impressions on Acro Trip
The story is about a normie girl who is a huge fan of a local magical girl, but she ends up hanging out with the villain guy instead. You see, the villain is an absolutely pathetic failguy who can't get anything done, and our heroine would find it more exciting if the magical girl had to struggle a bit. So now for the first two episodes the failguy villain has been trying to recruit the heroine to join forces. Overall the anime is a comedy so nothing is taken seriously and every character appears to be an idiot.
Feeling optimistic about this one, even if it hasn't made me laugh, the fun premise alone has been able to carry it this far. And the villain guy and the heroine have a pretty good bantering dynamic.
Also extra points for the supercute magical girl design, and the whole show having an unique eye style.

Non- Mission Essential (John Price x Reader)
John owes Kate a dinner and makes good on his promise. You are introduced to people from John's work life.
3k words
CW: swearing
This work is part of the S.N.A.F.U series, the Masterlist is pinned to my blog
The restaurant is based off a real one that exists elsewhere in the world. It's a sumptuous affair so it's sprawled over two chapters.
If it wasn't clear that I grew up before cell phones, this chapter should solidify that. I'm roughly the same vintage as John and can confirm life before caller ID and knowing who is calling.
Feedback welcome!
The evening is lit up by streetlamps by the time you arrive at the Chop House for dinner, the cold air heavy with threatening snow. The sidewalks gleam wet under the streetlamps and headlights of the passing traffic. John looks dapper in a dark grey three-piece suit, the tie and handkerchief patterned with a deep green that compliments your dress. You had smugly assumed John would be the problem tonight, his gaze heating every time he caught a glimpse of velvet stretched over your curves as you got ready.
He had been preoccupied with getting himself dressed so he had missed your initial lingerie selection, a strapless bra and no panties â the dress too tight for anything else without showing lines. Not much escapes the big manâs notice but you are thankful that seems to have flown under his radar, although with his inclination to be handsy with you, you wonder how long your luck will hold. As it turns out, however, the tailored lines of his suit keep drawing your eye, distracting you completely. His broad shoulders fill out the jacket like it was molded to his measurements with exacting precision. Heâs caught you out twice so far, not paying attention at all to what heâs saying, wrapped up in fantasies that glaze over your eyes. The second time he smiled deeply, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he gently jolted you out of your X-rated daydream to put your high heels on. Youâre wearing a long black pea coat over your dress, the velvet doing a decent job of keeping your legs warm as you step out into the cool night air.
You share a secret smile with him when he helps you out of the car, the valet waiting for the door to close behind you before taking the car to be parked. You have butterflies in your stomach, wanting to make a good impression on these women. John spoke highly of both of them, although heâs only worked with Kate. His presence is soothing, an anchor to your tumultuous anxieties. You run your hand over the front of his jacket, unnecessarily smoothing his lapels down, letting your eyes wander over the material wrapped around his deltoid.
âIf you donât stop looking at me like that-â
Johnâs voice is pitched low, for your ears only, but he gets cut off by someone calling his name. Youâre slightly disappointed you donât get to hear the rest of the threat, Johnâs hand landing low on your back, steering you forward.
âKate. Michelle.â
A pair of women step towards you, one dirty blonde with shorter hair and the other slightly taller, wearing her dark, thick, curly hair slicked back, gathered into a high bun at the top of her head. It creates a halo effect, framing her face beautifully. John greets them both with brief hugs before introducing you first to Kate, the blond, and then her wife, Michelle. Kate has no jewellery aside from a wedding ring that you can see, but Michelle has golden hoop earrings that complement her honey skin and her matching wedding ring. As John advised earlier you forgo air kisses for shaking hands with them both, Kateâs grip is firm where Michelleâs is gentle. Â
âShall we?â
Kate asks, her accent not as twangy as you had anticipated. John leads the way, holding the door open for your group as you file in behind him. You hand your coat over to the attendant at the coat room, waiting for the rest of the group to do the same. Kate is wearing a suit herself, a dark blue with black silk lining the slim lapels and a crisp black button-down shirt. Michelle is wearing a retro off the shoulder A-line cocktail dress, thick pleats of navy-blue fabric gathered around the waist of the skirt creating a classic feminine silhouette. A chunky gold necklace matches her earrings and catches the subdued lighting.
âOh, I love your dress!â
Michelle says as she turns to rejoin you after handing over her own coat. You feel heat crawl over your cheeks, shooting a look at John before thanking her and telling her you were just admiring hers. John looks smug, and his hand resettles on your lower back, sparking the low simmering desire in your belly. A part of you knows you will never be able to wear this dress again without thinking of him, buried deep inside you and telling you he thought of you wearing it when he was alone, off working somewhere in the world. Johnâs warm hand stays on your lower back, a tactile reminder of those recent erotic memories until you reach your table, when he pulls your chair out for you.
The restaurant is styled in classic old-world opulence, the wingback chairs wrapped in leather and the table tops made of marbled quartz. Â Kate repeats the gesture for Michelle, pulling out the chair opposite yours for her to sit. John and Kate exchange a look you donât understand before taking their own seats. John sits beside you, looking like the cat that got the cream. Kate notices as well.
âYouâre looking well John.â
John looks up from the drink menu, casting an assessing eye over Kate before responding.
âBeen resting up at home the last few days. Are you looking forward to getting home soon, Michelle?â
John redirects the conversation, and you smile to yourself. You know better, his definition of ârestingâ in this context broad enough to include making dinner every night and doling out regular toe-curling orgasms. Â Â Â Â
âThe townhome Kateâs work puts us up in when weâre here is starting to feel like home. Itâs the weather I canât get used to. This wet cold is the worst.â
Both Kate and John make sounds of agreement, but youâve never been anywhere with any other type of cold. Isnât snow just frozen water?
âWhatâs a dry cold? How is that better?â
You venture and John turns to answer but Kate beats him to it.
âA wet cold means you have to dry out first before you can warm up. Dry cold doesnât have the moisture in the air.â
âDoesnât get in to your bones in the same way, love.â
John adds. Kateâs face softens for a brief moment before she carries on. Her delivery style is no-nonsense but kind.
âYou only really get dry cold in places with low precipitation.â
You already know better than to ask how they know this, assuming itâs something learned first-hand. Youâre realizing, not for the first time, that there is a significant part of Johnâs life that you arenât privy to. Silently you wonder if Michelle is equally left in the dark about her wifeâs work life.
âIs it a dry cold where you live then?â
âWashington gets its fair share of precipitation but itâs nothing compared to this country. Itâs a good thing the rental comes with umbrellas âcause we didnât pack any.â
Michelle answers you, and you smile at her quip, agreeing that theyâre more necessity than accessory here. The waiter stops by, delivering the menus and water. John looks at you for your drink order so you donât have to raise your voice across the table and you ask for a glass of full-bodied red, letting John choose on your behalf. Kate notices everything, her vigilance reminding you somewhat of Johnâs inability to relax in crowded spaces. John orders himself a single malt whiskey and your glass of wine and Kate orders a gin and tonic but Michelle sticks to water which elicits a remark from John.
âRough night last night?â
âNo, we have a Doctorâs appointment tomorrow. Trying to keep the system primed. Want it to take this time. As much as I love our semi-regular jaunts across the pond, Iâm ready to sit a few out.â
âYou complain about not having direct access to Greggâs sausage rolls when weâre home for longer than two weeks.â Kate deadpans, unconvinced by her wifeâs statement. Â
âIâll keep my fingers crossed for you, thatâs exciting.â
John ignores Kate, and Michelle rewards his discernment with a smile. He turns to you and explains the doctor in question is a fertility doctor which crystalizes your understanding of the conversation.
âThatâs very exciting! Congratulations, I hope it works out for you tomorrow. You must have a generous boss to let you travel as much as it sounds like you do.â
Michelle grins, her excitement palpable.
âThank you, Iâm nervous but looking forward to it. As far as bosses go, I own my own consulting business; I do environmental data analysis so I can work from anywhere and generate my reports. I have some university students who work in placements doing the data collecting and then we assimilate it and generate a report.â
âOh, thatâs interesting!â
âYes, and varied, each project is a new challenge. I love it.â
âSheâs highly sought after in the area, there are a lot of National Parks nearby. A lot of businesses have to do impact studies if theyâre operating in or near the parks.â
Kate clarifies for you, pride bleeding into her tone.
âWell, thatâs lovely, built in clientele. Is that how you two met?â
Michelle tips her head back and laughs as her wife turns slightly red, but smirks nonetheless.
âNo, we met in a bar in Annapolis, her boyfriend at the time was being an asshole and I de-escalated the situation.â
Kate supplies, and you suspect thatâs not entirely true given Michelleâs bout of laughter. Once sheâs calmed herself, she colours in Kateâs bare bones explanation.
âI was dating a man who had a delicate ego-â
Kate scoffs but holds her tongue when Michelle shoots her a look.
â-and he didnât like that I was thinking of quitting my job at the time to start this business. He didnât think I could make a go of it and was going to blow my life savings. Kate listened to him berate me for about ten minutes at the bar before she brought her beer over and joined us, without asking, and proceeded to counter every negative thing that man said with a potential positive. You should have seen his face. She talked me up so much I ended up leaving the bar with her that night and broke up with him the next day. Iâd never dated a woman before but the confidence was so sexy, I was like a deer in the headlights. Couldnât look away. Still canât.â
âAw! thatâs the definition of sweeping you off your feet-â
Kate changes the topic you before you can comment any further, clearly uncomfortable with being the object of praise.
âSo, how did you and John meet?â
âOh, nothing as romantic as that. John was mates with a boy I was seeing at the time.â
Itâs Johnâs turn to scoff but unlike Kate he doesnât hold his tongue, adding his two cents to the story.
âBoy is right, his mouth was writing cheques his ass couldnât cash.â
âJohn.â
You admonish gently, more to keep him from getting worked up about something that happened over two decades ago than anything. He sits back, gesturing for you to continue as the waiter returns with the drinks. You wait until John requests some more time with the menus before continuing, taking your wine out of his outstretched hand smoothly as you speak.
âJohn found out his mate had been harassing me after we broke up. Following me home from school. Waiting for me outside shops, not taking no for an answer when I told him to leave me alone. Repeatedly calling my home and asking for me even after I told him I was done. Making my life a general hell. John caught him bullying me on the way home one day after he got back from basic training. Heâd been hanging around waiting for his mates to let out from school and watched my ex badger me down the lane. John got into a fist fight with him about it. Broke his cheekbone. The ass left me alone after that but John gave me his number in case he started following me around again and we stayed in touch after that.â
John sips his whiskey, seemingly satisfied with your version of events. Kate is clearly not, however.
âHow come you werenât charged with assault? None of that is in your transcript. If the MPâs got wind of it, it would have been.â
Kate asks, clearly mystified. You canât help but note that sheâs read Johnâs transcript and wonder what else she knows about his life.
âThe ladâs parents were convinced that the natural consequences were better than their son standing trial for a stalking charge that had multiple eyewitnesses.â
âWho convinced his parents?â
Itâs your turn to ask, never having considered that part before and John slides you an even look before he answers.
âMy father.â
âAh. Well, that tracks.â
John hums in agreement with you and Kate looks from you to John and back again.
âSounds romantic to me.â
Michelle offers and you can feel heat creeping over your face again. You had been given a front row seat to a bloody and painful exchange; it had never occurred to you to think of it as romantic. Heroic maybe, but you had attributed that to your gratefulness of having the harassment finally put to a stop.
âJohn was just doing the right thing. We stayed mates for years after that. We only started dating a few months ago.â
You explain to Michelle but the back of your mind is now trying to rehash the past for clues of Johnâs feelings. Was it romantic that he beat up your ex? As if the man in question can read your racing mind he reaches over and rests a big hand on your tense thigh, his thumb stroking over the velvet in tiny circular motions. The distraction works and redirects your attention to the present moment in time to catch Kateâs words.
âSounds like John. Canât watch a situation go sideways without mixing in.â
Sheâs looking at John with the hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. The man beside you doesnât argue, raising his whiskey in salute to the dirty blonde.
âSo, youâve known each other for a while then?â
Michelle gets the conversation back on track, her eyes bouncing between you and John.
âOh lord, yes. I couldnât have been more than 15 or 16 when all that went down? Put me right off dating for a while. My brother would tease me that Iâd be a spinster.â
âYou have a brother? What was he doing when you were being harassed?â
Kate is indignant on your behalf which is endearing, considering you barely know the woman.
âHe thought it was funny. Heâd answer the phone and tell me it was one of my girlfriends to get me to pick up. Heâs younger than me, so thought it was all a good laugh to see me scared. My parents thought it was just teen drama and told me to sort it out myself. They both worked and werenât around much.â
Johnâs hand squeezes your thigh before retreating, a comforting warmth rolling through you at his easy familiarity in front of his friends. You shoot him a smile as the waiter returns to the table to take orders. Unsurprisingly, John makes the most of this opportunity and orders a porterhouse steak. You and Michelle both order smaller servings of filet mignon, and Kate surprises you by requesting a lobster and steak combo. The women seated across from you exchange a glance, Michelle clearly wanting to say something about Kateâs ambitious selection. You hide the smile that wants to erupt behind a sip of your wine at the unspoken conversation happening across the table.
âHowâs your wine, darling?â
Johnâs eyes are on your hand, wrapped around the stem of the wineglass you are holding aloft. Youâve painted your nails a deep red, matching your lipstick, the contrast against the green of your velvet gown eye-catching. You finally let the smile thatâs been threatening to creep across your face loose, Johnâs distraction a small victory as far as youâre concerned.
âVery good, French this time?â
You ask, his interest in all things food and drink related an endless source of fascination to you. You suspect itâs partly due to the military food heâs been eating for half his life that drives his taste to the more refined when heâs given a choice. You trust his judgement and heâs rarely steered you wrong.
âSpanish, small vineyard.â
Kateâs new line of questioning interrupts your reply to John. Â
âSo, you have a younger brother, what about your parents? Are they still together?â
You feel your heart drop, even though youâve fielded this question many times over the years. It never seems to get any easier for you, nor have you developed a simple way to gloss over the loss to make it more palatable. You set the wineglass down on the table while you take a breath, forcing the smile that was stretched across your face back in to place.
âYes, they were killed by a drunk driver in a head on collision. Iâm told it was instantaneous.â
Michelleâs gasp has the smile slipping but you rally, John straightening up in concern at your side.
âShit â Iâm sorry-â
Kate tries to apologize but itâs your turn to interject, waving her concern off.
âNo, it was years ago now. Itâs fine, I just never know how to casually slip that in when it comes up. Iâm going to freshen up before dinner arrives, excuse me, wonât you?â
Your heart is thrumming against your breastbone as you stand up, John half out of his chair before your palm on his shoulder stops him. You just need a moment alone to take a few deep breaths and recenter yourself. Johnâs concerned hovering will only muddy your waters.
âItâs alright, Iâll be right back.â
You reassure him quietly, your voice thin against the sudden wave of emotion. Your fingers squeeze the broad muscle of his shoulder before weaving your way across the large room to the bathrooms. You donât have to look behind you to know Johnâs eyes are following you, you can feel the heat of his gaze on your back sending pinpricks of awareness through you.

Ready Or Not
Howzer x fem!S/O | 1.9k words
Content: blind dates, bad first impressions, Howzer has some thoughts and feels to work through, maybe some demi vibes?, no real fluff but I think it's sweet in its own way
Prompt: I came across this concept of a "Meet Ugly" and thought it'd be interesting to explore. Used this scenario: Getting set up on a blind date and not having the best reaction when they first see each other.
Part of Operation #MoreHowzerFics
He did not have time for this.
Maybe the rest of the galaxy had been duped into thinking the war was over, but Howzer knew better. There was still a fight to be had, and a more dire one at that. A fight for his brothers. Their fates were hanging in the balance... and here he was, sitting at some cafe on Pabu waiting for a date.
He wasn't even sure how it had happened. Rex had insisted there was a reason soldiers took R&R, and even though they technically weren't soldiers anymore they should still try to relax every once in a while. Fireball had taken to saying "you need to get laid" every time Howzer was in an even slightly bad mood. Greer was always going on about how they needed to think of the future, find a dream worth fighting for, like a home or a family. And Gregor was weirdly interested in figuring out what everyone's "type" was; everywhere they went he'd point someone out and gauge their reactions.
All of that somehow had culminated in setting Howzer up on a blind date the second they touched down on Pabu. As if he had time for such things. As if he cared about such things.
And yet... here he was. Wearing his armor and a frown, but he'd still shown up. If he wasn't so busy cursing his brothers in his mind, he could have analyzed why he was here. Or whether he maybe secretly did care about such things.
His leg bounced and his narrowed eyes stared unfeeling out at the planet's glistening waters. He glanced down at his watch every few minutes, growing more upset at how the time passed without this supposedly "cute" date of his showing up. A memory of Echo whispered in the back of his mind, saying something about "Pabu time", how people here didn't need to move with the same urgency he was used to, but he didn't listen to it.
A few people passed by and gave him pleasant smiles. Some entered the patio and gave warm hugs to neighbors they recognized. An elderly couple went up to the counter, leisurely reading the menu as if they had never dined here before. One girl confidently strolled in, at first acting like she knew where she was going, and then halting in the middle of the tables and looking about in confusion. She then tried to cover and got in line to order, as if that had been her plan, even though Howzer had seen the whole thing and knew she had probably absentmindedly gone to the wrong place.
He fought back the urge to roll his eyes at these people. He wasn't really annoyed at them. If anything, he envied their peace. They didn't have family enslaved by the Empire. They didn't have uncertain futures. They were allowed to wander and smile and act a little silly. It's what he would want for his brothers once they were freed. No, he was annoyed because they weren't free. This peace was not theirs. But here he was, sitting in a cafe overlooking a beautiful view and waiting for a date as if he had earned it. How in the galaxy had he let Rex and the others convince him to do this?
Just when he started to entertain the idea of bailing, the girl from earlier caught his eye. She had made it up to the counter now and the worker was pointing over in his direction. Howzer subconsciously shifted, his back straightening and his hand settling on his thigh next to his blaster holster. Usually he'd pretend not to have noticed, let any potential threats think they were catching him unawares while all along he had the upper hand. But here, he decided to send a different message. I am aware, I see you staring, try to mess with me.
The girl followed the path that the worker had pointed her in, right to Howzer. She didn't look like a spy or some other kind of threat, but these days, who really knew. Especially when she seemed determined to appear pleasant and confident, despite the nervous gulp Howzer clocked from across the patio, not to mention the little display of carelessness he had seen from her earlier.
"Hi there," she said when she came within a few feet of his table.
She gave out a breathy laugh and Howzer frowned, waiting to see what she wanted from him.
"Um," she gulped again, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Another nervous tell. What was she hiding? "I uh... Phee told me to meet someone here. For a... a date?"
Howzer's eyes widened in realization. Kriff.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to walk right past you," the girl continued to fill in the silence. "I guess I wasn't expecting, um..."
She trialed off as she realized how the thought was sounding out loud, and then quickly tried to save face by hurrying over to the seat opposite him and pulling it out. But Howzer wasn't going to let her off the hook that easy.
"Weren't expecting... what?" he asked once she sat down. He eased his hand away from his blaster but kept his posture upright. She may not be a threat but he wasn't exactly comfortable.
She exhaled quickly with a sheepish smile. "Well, a clone."
Howzer's eyes returned to their narrowed state, sizing up this girl he found himself sitting across from. She interpreted the silence as offense and immediately started babbling.
"I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that. It's... it's just... You know, you've all just recently started coming here... I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised... Of course Phee would set me up with someone I don't know, I know practically every other guy here, and there's a reason I'm not with any of them... And she's been working with clones more recently... But like, I know only a few of you are sticking around for good, so I guess that's why it didn't occur to me that..."
Howzer wasn't sure when he had started zoning out. He felt bad, but also couldn't help it. He didn't have much time for this date to begin with, and certainly no time to listen to a stranger ramble without getting to any sort of point. He was a soldier; he valued conciseness. Whatever suppressed little hope he had that maybe this date wouldn't be so bad after all, maybe he finally would find a romantic connection with someone, dissipated into the saltwater breeze.Â
He sat forward and the girl stopped spewing her thoughts, eagerly awaiting him to interject and contribute.
"Look, you seem like a nice girl," he lied. He honestly didn't really have an opinion about her one way or the other. He'd been hit on plenty of times back on Ryloth but had never felt anything by it, other than occasional annoyance when it interrupted his duties. "But it seems like we both have some disappoints over this arrangement. Why don't we cut our losses now, get some time back in our days, and part on good terms?"
Now it was her turn to frown.
"You... you're disappointed?"
Howzer was already scooting his chair back to stand. "It's nothing personal against you," he tried to reassure, though even he could hear how impolite it sounded. He hated that he was in such a situation. He should have never come in the first place.
He gave her a formal nod, almost like a salute, and then strode through the patio gate and down quiet, cobbled streets back toward the town square. Each step felt heavier and heavier and he did whatever he could to ignore the guilt twisting in his chest, even trying to look at his surroundings and focus on taking in the architecture and flora and beauty. It was a hollow focus, but he was determined to keep walking, believing he'd soon forget about this awkward encounter and the rude behavior he'd displayed, and things would go back to normal... as normal as they could be in a war.
But then a voice started to cut through to him from behind.
"Sir? Sir!"
He turned in confusion to see the girl jogging toward him. She pulled up a few feet from him, only slightly out of breath.
"Sorry. Um, I don't know your name. Or your rank."
"My rank doesn't matter anymore," he said, immediately regretting how defensive it sounded. He really was a mess today, wasn't he.
"Sure it does," she said with a small smile. "It was an accomplishment, something you should always be proud of."
Without realizing, the tenseness in his shoulders started to loosen. He took in a deep breath and said the first normal thing all day. "My name's Howzer. Captain Howzer."
Her smile grew just a bit more. "It's nice to meet you, Captain Howzer. And... I'm sorry if I came across rude or annoying before. I understand if you don't find me attractive, but I really don't want that to be your impression of me. I really wasn't disappointed to find out you were my date. In fact, I'm disappointed I didn't actually get to have you as a date. But, like I said... it's okay if you're not interested."
Howzer's heart was twisting again. She was a nice girl. Sweet, thoughtful. Still used too many words, but he supposed he didn't use enough sometimes. As far as attraction, he wasn't entirely sure he knew what that felt like, but those bright eyes and soft smile weren't so bad to look at.
"It's not that I'm not interested," he started to say slowly, but then realized he wasn't sure how to finish the thought.
The girl stepped closer. "You're just not ready?"
"Honestly, I don't know if I ever will be ready." He gave a sheepish shrug, though he was starting to feel better. He appreciated that she was helping him sort through these confusing feelings. Her eyes were closer, swimming with the reflection of the sky and what he believed to be genuine care. Before he knew it, he was elaborating. "I mean, do I like the idea of sitting down for coffee with someone and getting to know them? Of course. But to what end? I don't know what the future holds. I don't know if I can be a good friend, let alone... something else."
She nodded in understanding but still offered a different perspective. "To be fair, no one really knows what the future holds. And relationships come in all different forms. There's no one way to be a good friend. Or a good something else."
Howzer's eyes slipped away from hers, pulled toward the glistening sea in the backdrop behind her. He mulled over her words as he watched the waves, nothing but tiny little ripples from this distance. It reminded him of some of the paintings he saw back on Ryloth. He'd always been impressed with artists who could make small details seem real. They were only small strokes on a canvass but they captured a whole entire feeling.
He shook himself, not sure why he was thinking about such a thing right now. The girl was still watching him with a small but knowing smile. She stepped back and returned the nod he'd given her back at the cafe.
"I'm really glad to have met you, Captain. I wish you all the best."
She turned and started walking back the way she'd came. Howzer let her get a few steps before finally calling out.
"Wait. I didn't get your name."
She paused and smiled at him over her shoulder.
"Hope."

"Er...you don't like me very much, do you," said Oats.
"I've hardly met you." [...]
"A lot of people don't like me as soon as they've met me," said Oats.
"I suppose that saves time," said Agnes, and cursed. Perdita had got through on that one, but Oats didn't seem to have noticed.

The Other 1995 Pride & Prejudice Adaptation
WISHBONE - FURST IMPRESSIONS Remember this gem? They were like, maybe if we dress up a dog in cute outfits kids will want to pay attention to classic stories and they were right
I mean they drew parallels to school kid situations too, but honestly, it was the dog. Look, he can bow!
Enjoy some of my favorite lines: "Mr. Darcy is nervous at parties - so nervous he seems rude"
"Excuse us, Miss Beggar - uh, Miss Bennet, sorry" "Look she's nice, but I can't marry a poor girl, so enough already"
"Bingley you know I've got four left feet"
"I know, I know, it's ridiculous for me - a Darcy - to love you, but I do!"
"Wickham! That tomcat! You don't believe his story?!"
"I know I sound rude and arrogant but I'm really just the nicest guy"
But of course, at the end they make up and hold hands
awwww
