when Fiona Gallagher said "That was love? okay, then why did she leave? she loved us so much why wasn't she here? she wasn't here, she was never here, she left. i was nine, nine and taking care of you, taking care of all of us."
and "you don't get to abandon your kids and then show up one day to take your pick of the litter. this is about what you didn't do. this is about what i did. and you know what? i did a great job. they did it all, no thanks to you because you weren't here"

One of my favourite things about Fiona and Debbie’s relationship is how it’s such an accurate portrayal of sisterhood when the older sister has always played the role of a mom.
It’s fine when Debbie’s little because she wants a motherly figure. But when she becomes a teenager, she just wants Fiona to be a sister and not a mom. You can see the roles start to shift. Up until then Debbie was the daughter and Fiona was essentially the mother. But at the beginning of the middle seasons as Debbie gets older, they become each other’s sisters. Debbie wants to be Fiona’s equal and to be able to talk to her about things the way sisters can without Fiona lecturing or mothering her.
But Fiona desperately wants to stop Debbie from making the same mistakes she did and to make her see things the way she does, because at the end of the day teenagers still do need guidance from adults. And there were no other adult female figures to do that for her. She can’t just turn off parent mode and be the sister Debbie desperately wants.
One sister having to play the parent role is often unavoidable but it can drive such a wedge between sisters, especially during the younger sisters teenage years.

Lip and Debbie and Ian and Carl are two of the most underrated sibling dynamics in shameless and we don’t talk about them enough

rewatching shameless (for like the sixth time) made me realize fiona and debbie actually didn’t hate each other as much as the fandom likes to act like they did, and if debbie gets an entire fanbase to hate her over having beef with fiona, lip should get more hate since he fought with her more (and was older and more cruel).

I agree that Fiona was frustrating in the later seasons and that she wasn’t a good guardian. But when people say she shouldn’t have gotten guardianship in S3 all I can think of is…what was the alternative there? The kids all going into the foster system and probably separated?
I reblogged a post once where someone said they couldn’t hate Fiona for gaining guardianship and then regretting it because at the end of the day, she really didn’t have a choice. And they were completely right. It was either gain guardianship or allow everyone to be separated. And Frank was the one that put her in that position by calling CPS on them.

I'm not done yet but hey are you giving zuko eldest daughter trauma because I'll fucking kill you I read ONE line it's probably the first of what's to come but I'm sending the hate ask now xoxo
ofc i wouldn't do that! he's just fistfighting a saviour complex and is eternally burdened by the responsibility of raising and caring for his sister while simultaneously being a child himself and always putting himself before the worst of the war so that azula doesn't have to all the while growing more and more rage towards the situation until it all comes out in a very cataclysmic scene that i will definitely cry at when writing :)
#he's got that fiona gallagher in him#big thief rlly went to town with mythological beauty and 'there is a child inside you who is trying to raise a child in me' v tams zukocore#the funny thing about zuko and azula's relationship is that yes it's kinda wholesome but it is still ultimately fucked#and yet i find them pretty easy to write bc i literally just go 'what would me and my sister be like in this situation'#like ive said before how my sister never really stepped up as the eldest and ive always felt like we shared that role#like i'll give it to her she's better at being the eldest in certain situations and im better in others#and it's always been us helping our mum bc as capable and brilliant as my mum is she's also doing everything alone#and her temper is... not great. so me and my sister took care of each other in our own way#and by 'our own way' i mean we have NEVER had a stereotypical relationship. our age gap is too small and we're both too mean#literally zuko's ch1 quote about 'they'd never been protective of each other' is directly inspired by me and my sister#i dont feel protective of her i dont feel a need to keep her safe and happy and it's really odd bc i KNOW im supposed to but i just dont#and she doesnt for me even though she's the 'eldest'. and yet i love her and would kill and die for her#and also if we were in this situation and we were trying to shield each other#from certain horrors that we thought the other couldn't handle then we'd have to be SO CLEVER ABOUT IT#bc just like zuko with azula if i caught my sister trying to patronise me/protect me i would HIT THE ROOF#like i am thoroughly convinced there is nothing she can handle that i cant and vice versa so we'd have to be soooo slick about it#and while with zuko and azula that only holds to an extent bc azula is ultimately YEARS younger than zuko#and whatever you think of her personality she just straight up should not be exposed to certain things#(neither should zuko but yk what i mean)#it still stands and we see throughout tams the v clever ways zuko has learned to protect azula so that she doesnt catch on#like either the next chapter or the one after (probs the one after) there's a really horrific scene#that's just super dark and gory and while with a normal younger sibling you'd do something to keep their eyes on you and not on the scene#like lie to them or make it into a game or something so they're unaware of what's happening#but instead zuko sees what's happening and before azula can he quickly gets her to check their supplies and count their money or some shit#like giving her a job to acknowledge her capability and not patronise her while still shielding her from a really brutal scene#and it just goes over zuko's head that at sixteen he ALSO SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO THAT#but long story short i just think that's so funny. like the fire hazards are sooo fucked and for good reason#but it literally just boils down to me and my dumbass sister#so yeah. very niche eldest daughter syndrome emanating from tams zuko#ask

Tumblr media
You are in a daze.
Your frail body shakes as the sudden flashbacks of yelling and pushing and crying continue to play in your head. Trying to understand, to comprehend what in the hell just happened. Thinking a million thoughts yet completely nothing at all. Your head aches, the shooting pressure builds, beating against your skull.
The snow crunches under your steps, soaking through your socks as you stumble to keep yourself up right. The icy wind causes you to tremble more than the horrors of the night. Barely able to keep your eyes open wide enough to see where you are going.
Having no particular destination in mind but here you are standing outside Lip Gallagher’s house, knocking on the door in the middle of the night, begging to be let in.
Lip has been the person you’ve leaned on for almost every bullshit thing that has happened in your life, understanding each other on a deeper level. It was only recently that your relationship with Lip became sexual but your connection was much more than that. And unfortunately neither of you have the guts to make it anything more than just friends who sleep together.
Your knocking rapidly increases, quickly becoming impatient until you hear the lock on the other side click and the porch light turn on. Coming face to face with his older sister Fiona who’s look of annoyance quickly washes over with concern, brows furrowing, mouth open in shock as she stares at your fragile body, wearing only a cotton tank top, small boxer shorts and socks shielding you from the cold. Your exposed skin is covered in purple bruises, deepening in color with every second that you tremble in front of her.
Immediately snatching one of the jackets off the hook behind her and wrapping it around your shoulders as she pulls you inside. Goosebumps lining your skin as the warm, inside air circles around you. The pain is no longer from the cold but from the aching bruises.
And while your world has been turned upside down, a happy boy on the next street over is fighting a huge grin as he walks back home.
The extra skip in Lip’s step was from the wonderful night he just spent with Karen, mainly the sex part. Their relationship has become more positive and Lip hopes that they are finally going to make it more official, like boyfriend/ girlfriend official, no one else on the side.
But...becoming official with Karen means that he will no longer get to see you...at all. Karen is hugely jealous of your relationship with Lip. The inside jokes, the constant hanging out, the connection that she sees that you two are obviously oblivious to. And the only way that she agreed to making things official with Lip is that he will have to cut off all ties with you.
Lip is feeling torn, picking between you and Karen should be so easy for him but these past couple of months, especially when you add sex into the equation, makes him question everything. He lets out one more deep breath, the fog floating in front of him as he knows that tomorrow he will finally have to tell you that you can’t be friends anymore. Knowing that the outcome is going to be disastrous.
Skipping every other skip as he jogs up the stairs of the back porch, a curious thought enters his mind as he notices all the lights shining into the darkness of the night and the door unlocked as he jiggles the handle. Walking into the warm kitchen, unwrapping his scarf and shrugging off his jacket, dismissing the items onto the table until some unknown later time.
The commotion from the front end of the house travels around his body as he stumbles to kick off his boots, catching himself on the wall by the stairs to stop himself from falling over. Peaking around the corner, trying to understand the roaring chaos that fills that Gallagher house tonight.
Ian comes down the stairs, his hand placed on his forehand and the other holds a phone tightly to his ear. Practically arguing with the person on the other line, speaking some details about a house over on Gilmore Street.
Gilmore Street…that’s where you live.
Lip’s interest suddenly peaked, his face asking a plain question towards his younger brother…what the hell is going on here?
But Ian waves him off, continuing on his story on how the police need to check on the house now and how something really fucked up happened.
Lip stands there dumbfounded, trying to figure out this super confusing situation that he just walked into. His attention floats elsewhere as the two women in the next room talking abruptly loud. If he didn't know Fiona and V personally, then he would think hat they are arguing. Walking closer to the dining room but not actually in the room itself, Lip watches their interaction.
Their movements are elaborate and complex. Fiona runs fingers through her hair, tossing it to one side, passing the hard floor beneath her. The conversation between them is making no sense to Lip, something about having to wait until tomorrow and trying to solve some problem.
Lip stands still, his mind trying to piece the puzzle together from the small details that he has been given. But how could he, when it feels like everyone is talking in code. Like it's some top secret event that he can't know anything about.
Feeling something graze his side, bringing him back to reality to see Debbie walk between the two women towards the living room. In her hands a mug with steam coming from it. Walking quickly to the couch where she hands the mug to a girl. Lip following Debbie's same movements to get a better look at who's in his house. Eyes wide when it see that it's you...
A confused look freezes on his face as he studies your body. Your shaky hands reach out towards the mug as the warm contains seeping through the glass cup through your body. Your eyes fixated in front of you, as if the small girl standing in front of you isn’t actually there. Your chest heaving rapidly, breathing heavily through your nose. Knees bruised, shaking together.
It is as if the dam that keeps the water of emotions behind a strong wall suddenly shatters. The instant fire spreads through Lip’s body as he sees your weak state. The walls of decorum crumble as his hands turn into fist and his jaw locks. The blood making his face bright red, moving quickly to your side, his knees hitting into the wooden floors hard as he practically pushes Debbie out of the way so he is kneeling in front of you.
“WHAT HAPPENED?” Lip voice breaks through the chaos of the house as he holds onto your shoulders, shaking slightly but your gaze would shift to meet his, “What happened, tell me!” He whines, the pain mixed with anger driving his actions.
“Don’t yell at her dummy.” Fiona shouts as she comes over, grabbing Lip off the floor so they are face to face.
“What the fuck is going on?” The spit spewing from his mouth, his hand signaling towards you and why you are bruised and bleeding and hurt. Why you? Why you?
“We don’t know. Your little girlfriend just showed up here like 10 minutes ago.” V crosses her arms behind Fiona.
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Lip quickly remarks, the comment would have stung you more if you can actually concentrate but tonight is not the night for you to be dwelling over how Lip Gallagher feels about you.
Your soft voice speaks his name.
Lip coming to you again, “Hey,” Lip’s kind eyes are on you, his touch now gentle as his heart aches.
Eyes shaking as they meet him, glossing over as a tear slips down your cheek. But you struggle to get any words out.
“Just tell me what happened?” His hand on your cheek, wiping away the tears, “Please tell me.”
Gulping hard, your trembling body making the liquid in your mug move, hesitating as you say, “My dad."
“He got out?”
“From where?” Debbie asks.
Lip groans, hate having to explain further, “Prison. Shut up.” Debbie rolls her eyes, obviously annoyed.
“Th-this morning.” The words feel like cotton balls in your mouth.
“He did this to you?” Standing up immediately, “I’m gonna kill that motherfucker. Get the bat Ian.” He points towards his brother who instantly follows his orders.
The tears start flowing now, the snob leaking from your nose. Your body collapsing as the abuse of the night finally settles in causing you lose yourself.
“Lip.” Deb pulls Lip's attention back to you.
“She needs you right now buddy. You can beat the son-of-a-bitch up tomorrow.” Fiona patting his back before leaving the room.
And he knew Fiona was right. He didn't need to be this guy who beat the shit out of some low-life, that isn't going to make him a hero to you. Lip needs to be here for you now, comfort you, take care of you. Be the man that you need.
He realized why you came over to his house, looking for him at your darkest moment. Understanding that you and him can spend hours together without saying a word. Be closer, more intimate then sex with Karen will ever be. It was always going to be you, he was always going to pick you.
Wrapping his arms around you as you sob deeper against his chest, shushing as he rocks you, "I've got you." Kissing the top of your head. The instantly relief coating your body.

Let me know what you think!! thank you for reading. I LOVE YOU!!!

Hi TG Fandom!
Time for some more sad Jake!
Hangman is the asshole archetype and while I love that for him, I want him to have a subset of people who see him as the opposite.
So, I raise you — a Hangman who is raising his siblings.
I’m talking about Fiona Gallagher from Shameless levels of raising — just with a little more success and in the swamps of the Texas-Louisiana border.
I'm talking about a Jake who had a terrible childhood and knew how bad they were starting off in the world, so he planted his feet and shoved those kids in front of him to get them farther down the line of success than him.
A Jake who was raising two one-year-olds, a ten-year-old, an eight-year-old and a five-year-old alone at fifteen because the system failed them.
He eventually joins the Navy to feed them because he's out of options.
But he does the thing — he gets one into art school, one into nursing, one into professional ball and finishes up with two teenagers who never ever doubt if they have someone in their corner. Because the youngest two, the twins and only girls, had their Jake to teach them to shave and use menstrual products and put on makeup when they were ready and if they wanted.
He taught all of them how to love and be loved with none of the experience himself.
I need a Jake who broke it off with Bradley because the kids came first and he was scared that Bradley would reject them and the prospect of an “instant family”.
I just… I need it.
I need a Jake who takes off to save Mav and Bradley even when he has everything to lose.

the bathroom drawer
"Mickey!" Ian yells. "Did you move my cologne?"
"Your what?" Mickey calls back, appearing in the bathroom doorway while buttoning up his shirt.
"My cologne."
"No. I don't even know where you keep that shit."
"In here!" Ian says, shaking his head as he rummages through the drawer below their bathroom sink. "I swear I left it in here."
"Lemme see," Mickey says, nudging Ian to the side. "You're shit at looking."
"I'm not shit at looking, it's just not fucking there."
"Yeah, yeah," Mickey grumbles, moving the junk in the drawer around. "Jesus Christ. How much shit do we got in here?"
"Too much," Ian muses, folding his arms over his chest and leaning his hip against the sink. "But it doesn't matter anyway. It's not in there. I've been looking for--"
"Found it." Mickey holds up the blue bottle with a smug grin.
Ian grabs it from him. "Whatever."
Mickey raises his eyebrows. "Whatever? That's what I get?"
Ian leans in and gives him a loud, smacking kiss on the cheek. "Thank you," he says instead.
"Better," Mickey grumbles.
Ian spritzes the cologne onto himself while Mickey keeps rummaging around in the drawer. He pulls out an empty toilet paper roll, a broken comb with too many teeth missing, and an old phone charger with exposed wires.
He throws them all in the trash. "This thing is a mess."
"Yeah," Ian says with a sigh, checking himself over in the mirror. He paws at his hair a bit. "We gotta do a deep clean in here one of these days. Closet's a disaster too."
"What the fuck is--"
Ian looks over at his husband when he doesn't finish his sentence.
Mickey's brows are furrowed as he holds up a thin black stick in front of his face. "Is this makeup?"
Ian huffs out a faint laugh. "Yeah."
"Debbie's?"
"That thing's old enough to be Fiona's," Ian tells him, taking it from Mickey. "But no. It's mine."
Mickey raises his brows. "Yours?"
Ian uncaps the tube, twists the end so the little black tip pushes through the end. "Eyeliner."
"Holy shit," Mickey says slowly. "How fucking old is that thing?"
"Old," Ian says, trying to read the chipped writing on the side for any kind of date. "Probably expired."
"That shit expires?"
"Supposedly. But who knows."
Mickey tilts his head, watching Ian examine the eyeliner. "How the hell did it end up here?"
"No idea," Ian tells him. How it survived in the Gallagher house for as long as it did and moved to their west side apartment is beyond him. "Probably got boxed up with some of my shit a long time ago."
"Huh," Mickey muses. He crosses his arms over his chest. "Can't believe you used to put that shit on every night."
"Me neither," Ian says. "You ever tried it?"
"What, make up?"
"Yeah."
"For a disguise once or twice," Mickey tells him with a shrug. "Never like, just 'cause."
Ian starts to grin. "You wanna?"
"Fuck no," Mickey says instinctively. He bites his lip. "Why? You gonna wear it tonight?"
"Why not?" Ian asks, facing the mirror and leaning in close. "We're already going to a club. Might as well get go all out."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah." Ian glances over at his husband. "You got a problem with that?"
Mickey shrugs. "No."
"Okay."
Mickey watches with rapt attention as Ian applies the eyeliner to himself. The stick is old for sure, and it takes a few passes to really get the make up on his eyelid. It only takes a minute though, and then Ian's eyes are outlined in black.
"There," he says, blinking and turning to face Mickey. "How do I look?"
"Weird," Mickey says.
"Sure, but like, crazy weird, or hot weird."
Mickey's brows pinch together. "...Hot weird."
Ian grins. "It's kinda doing it for you, isn't it?"
"No. Shut up," Mickey says quickly.
Ian laughs. "You should try it," he tells his husband. "It's fun."
"It looks like it's gonna get in my eyes."
"Maybe," Ian says with a shrug. "But I bet you'd look hot with it."
"You say that about everything you want me to wear."
"And I've never been wrong once."
Mickey makes a face. "Does it hurt?"
"No."
"...Can I take it off if it looks stupid?"
Ian's face relaxes. "You can take it off whenever you want," he says softly. "Doesn't ever have to leave this bathroom."
Mickey glares at the eyeliner, his face slowly melting into apprehensive reluctance. "Fucking... fine."
"Really?" Ian asks, perking up.
"How do I do it?"
"I can do it," Ian offers, holding up the eyeliner and his open hand. "Lemme put it on you."
Mickey sighs through his nose, then steps closer. He tilts his chin up and fits his face into his husband's waiting hands.
Ian kisses his temple. "Close your eyes."
Mickey does as told. His eyelashes flutter at the first press of the stick, eyelids scrunching at the new, weird sensation.
"Hold still," Ian whispers, trying not to poke him in the eye.
"Feels weird," Mickey mumbles.
"Yeah, but..." Ian pulls back, smiling at his work. "Open your eyes."
Mickey blinks them open, eyebrows bouncing with it. "So?"
"Damn," Ian says, grinning. "You look good, baby."
"Fuck off with that," Mickey grumbles, turning towards the mirror. He makes a face. "I look like a fucking alien."
"A hot alien."
Mickey gives him the side eye, but he doesn't immediately wipe the eyeliner off. He leans in close to the mirror, tilts his head this way and that. Pulls at the skin on his cheeks and his temples. "Weird," he says quietly.
"So," Ian starts, capping the eyeliner and tossing it back in the drawer. "You ready to go, or what?"
Mickey sighs heavily, taking one last look at himself in the mirror.
Ian slides in behind him, curls a hand around his hip. "Don't overthink it," he whispers, kissing his husband's temple. "If you like it, go with it."
"I don't know if I like it."
"That's okay too."
Mickey leans back against him. "It looks good on you."
Ian smiles softly. "Thanks."
Mickey hums. "Fine," he says, standing up straight. "Let's go. But if anyone says anything about it--"
"I know," Ian says, hands on his husband's shoulders as he follows him out of the bathroom. "You get to punch them."
"I get to punch them."
"Fine." Ian kills the bathroom light. "And we might have to hit the 24 hour CVS on the way home. I definitely don't have make up wipes."
