red white and royal blue was so cheesy and predictable I enjoyed it thoroughly. making banal queer romantic comedies is hard but necessary work
#sooner or later we'll start getting them with lesbians too *shakes fist in determination* imagine#nor's rambles#ALTHOUGH it would be refreshing to get a film that does not hit all these romantic comedy beats#or that would be a romantic comedy but actually good. like palm springs but gay. the big sick but gay#WHEN HARRY MET SALLY BUT GAY although that really hits the beats ahgvadhbfds#also personally i like queer stories that don't give much attention to labels and such. i think those are really important too#it's one of the reasons i'm not the biggest fan of hearstop*per (censoring so it doesn't go into the tag to ruin people's fun)#because i feel like it's just taking all the letters from the LGBTQIA and assigning each character with a letter#which is not wrong in any way and once again i am older than the intended audience it's not For Me#but i am often left craving something sort of... less defining. more free. more just being what you are and doing what you do#kind of like.. something done for the sake of the story and the art instead of just representation for the sake of representation???#that is important too!! but kinda craving stuff for us who don't really like labels as well???

i really used to think i was a Sitcoms Person but i’m trying to type out a tier list/ranking in my notes app of every show i’ve ever seen (in recent years), as one does at like 12:50 or whatever in the morning, and my “S-tier” section so far is one sitcom and 4 dramas. Which could mean nothing

#she watches#the blue caftan#le bleu du caftan#maryam touzani#lubna azabal#saleh bakri#ayoub missioui#a bittersweet queer movie about love and acceptance#I've rarely seen so much empathy on screen#the characters are so strong and yet so very soft with each other#they respect and care so much for each other#a form of companionship I crave#the summary undersold it honestly#the cast is stunning and so is their alchemy together#also the mastery behind making caftan is crazy and beautifully filmed#also I love hands and the way they're portrayed and here they did and showed so much it was really amazing#it's a slow movie like the making of a caftan like their little quiet life despite all their secrets#because of the topic and the country the whole thing is pretty subtle and it kinda enhances everything#you must watch it in arabic
