elliot's 2023 fic wrap up

2022 version

alright friends it is once again time for me to review the (many) fics i read in the previous year and try to write a more or less concise rec list of my absolute faves (i wish i didn't have to chose but heh i'm not gonna subject anyone to 332 fics in 1 post - also wait only 332 fics? that's like. over 100 less than last year, what the fuck. anyway)

okay now first the part that interests no one but me (yes you may skip this) and that's the numbers part! i'm not making a whole elaborate spreadsheet to then not throw around cool numbers. anyway.

i've read around 4,932k words in 332 fics across 18 fandoms. that is much less than last year, and yeah, i've been generally less productive in 2023 but we don't have to talk about it. at least i have more variety of fandoms this time (let's ignore that it's only 2 more and also that from fandom 13 on there's only 1 fic per fandom)

i started out the year strong with 847k words across 72 fic in february (followed by 753k across 42 fics in january, and 621k words across 63 fics in march). it goes downhill for the rest of the year. eh it wasn't my year so what! 2024 is gonna be more filled with fic reading again!!!

my top 3 fandoms are so entirely unsurprising to me i am almost disappointed in myself. when did i become so predictable. top fandom is young royals with 166 fics! congratulations young royals, you are a very persistent hyperfixation, you didn't peter out after 2 months like i expected. Spot number 2 is taken by avatar the last airbender with 41 fics! giant leap there, but it's also funny because i fell into an atla rabbit hole late 2023 (as i do every few years) and it still got up to 41 fics despite uni not allowing me to read last semester (uni is evil). Same as last year, spn takes third place with 38 fics. speaking of persistent hyperfixations.......... *big sigh*

JANUARY

a kid fic!! and such a sweet one too! i'm kinda weak for kid fics ngl, and nora is so sweet and wonderful, and the relationship that slowly forms between wille and simon is beautiful and comfortable. this whole series is just such a good time

erik is being such a dumbass in this one. like, he means well, but he's kinda messing up and pissing people off (understandably). it's nice to get a view on erik that's not portraying him as this perfect guy though, and the fic is actually so much fun to read. and hey, the prime minister of luxembourg gets mentioned, which i was kinda waiting for in yr fic ngl

okay. ooookay how do i even begin with this one. ohhh boy. okay. so. world war three. wille gets stuck in bjärstad with simon, many many things happen, it's about finding hope in a horrible situation and trying to live life despite everything falling apart around you. it's incredibly well written and something about it just has me in awe

i once again don't know what to say, this one is sooo good. simon is suffering and both wille and i hate it, but... but wille is there for him and ugh, they just... they just can't be apart. a story of reconciliation and healing from both physical and invisible wounds, and of making the right decisions for yourself

yooooo hello? so first off this is an outsider pov on wilmon which i am always obsessed with anyways but the focus isn't just on them, this is henry's story. it's a beautiful story about how friendships form and warp and change, how feelings manifest in different ways, how decisions and actions have consequences. it's an incredibly mature take on post-s1, and it's probably my favourite of the year. also ace representation!!!!

APRIL

i haven't seen st s4 (and probably won't watch it) but that definitely won't stop me from reading harringroveson fic. i mean, who wouldn't look at those three and immediately want to see them together. the way their dynamic is written in this fic is peak, i don't even know what more to say. i also very much trust these authors with billy, and again i wasn't disappointed. there's just something in his head that's intriguing.

definitely one of the highlights of the year, simon's whole life in new york... those scenes, they just show such a wonderful life simon has built for himself, and his relationship with wille doesn't change it, but he manages to fit in (after, you know, fun rom-com drama shenanigans). also. this is a kid fic. kid fics are my weak spot. rasmus is my new favourite little guy. also shoutout to luis best side character ever

okay. oooookay. strap in for this one, it is a lot. emotionally. like yes zuko is autistic, yes yes yeeees, i agree, also azula is treated like an actual person with actual mental issues, she deserves to be treated with care and this author definitely does that! this is the kind of series that makes me want to disappear in it, but it's also the kind of story i need breaks from, because it is so heavy (definitely check the tags for this one). zuko's relationship with sokka is written so thoughtfully and iroh is characterised incredibly and the author even included ursa in a way that didn't undermine everything that happened in the series before she appeared again. i can only recommend this one!

For one self-rec, I need to go with Shall These Bones Live, which remains my baby. Post-canon silvergifting, and I'm fairly certain it's the only one with Original Proto-Ent Character(s). "yeah, it's me," he annaounces and a second later, his head appears in your line of vision. as soon as you take him all in, you see his shaking form, his drenched quidditch ropes.

"were you training in the rain again?" you ask, a little concerned but mostly amused.

"...maybe," he responds, quickly running to the bathroom so he doesn't get the whole room wet.

"did you drag your poor teammates with you too?" you ask, already feeling bad for the boys. yes, you like that oliver is so passionate about something but sometimes, he just crosses the line.

"maybe," he repeats his previous answer, you closing your eyes momentarilly.

"oh, ollie," you sigh, just as he comes out of the bathroom. without missing a beat he colapses on the bed, his head landind near your shoulder. you lightly touch his cheek, checking if he maybe, possibly caught a cold. "oh, merlin, you're freezing!" you exclaim, putting down your book and wraping your arms around him, pulling him closer. "saints, oliver, how long were you out there?" you ask, now really worried about his health.

"two hours," he quietly confesses, your eyes widening. "but i let the boys go after one!"

"yeah, but still! two hours, do you know how cold it is outside? it may not be winter anymore but spring has just begun!" you whisper-yell, quickly wrapping the sheets around him. "and your hair is still wet," you comment, getting up to get a towel. "although you look adorable with wet hair, you're going to get sick if we don't dry it at least a little," you say from the bathroom, returning back to bed right after. this boy is going to be the death of himself one day.

"Looking good, Y/N," JJ winks at you, a smirk on her lips. You thank her with a roll of your eyes, knowing damn well she was talking about your boyfriend's cardigan. You knew what wearing it to work meant but it looked so comfortable and warm, you just had to wear it.

"Damn, Y/N," Morgan whistles as you pass him, sitting down behind your desk. You ignore him, instead going straight to the files waiting on you. It's not a minute that goes by before Spencer enters the bullpen, sitting down across from you.

"Y/N? Is- is that my cardigan?" the doctor asks once he notices what you're wearing, a surprised look on his face.

"Yes, I borrowed it, I'm sorry if it bothers you," you quickly explain, just as a big grin starts to spread across Spencer's lips.

"No, I don't mind at all, darling," he mutters, same expression appearing on your face.

"Okay then," you say, turning back to the paperwork. He steals once last glance before going back to work, a smirk replacing the previpus smile.

Keeeellll, ride or die, bff, my favourite person -

Bruce Wayne, despite his himbo status, is surprisingly articulate.

Perhaps the opposite of someone like Batman - whom you're lucky to get a one word answer from (he communicates predominantly in nods and grunts), and when words are necessary its a mumble at best - a growl, most certainly.

It's funny because Clark has always wondered what Batman sounds like outside of his costume, without the lead-lined cowl to impede his speech... and then he happens to be heading to the watchtower early when he overhears Bruce Wayne, probably a news cast or society report Barry has playing on the monitors (which Batman better not find out he's been using the monitors to watch television, yeesh).

Except when he gets to the control room, there's no Barry and there's no newsfeed - it's just Batman. And... a cat.

When the cat jumps off his lap and onto the control desk and starts pushing random buttons with his paws Batman jumps up and yells 'Kitty, no! Bad cat!' and scoops him up. but... that voice is... not the Bat.

That voice is Bruce Wayne...

This is full of filth and I am not sorry in the slightest. This is a no-powers AU.

“You want me to do what?”

Your voice rose to a high squeak as you processed what Nat had just asked. Your roommate at least had the decency to hide her face behind her hands, and peek at you from between her fingers.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, but Steve’s place is rented, and I own this apartment. It just makes more sense for him to move in with me than the other way around.”

You weren’t angry with her; far from it. You were pleased that her relationship with Steve had progressed to the next level and they were moving in together, but the fact that it meant that you had to move out had your head in a spin. You’d moved in with her two years ago when her younger sister, Yelena, had left to go to college and you were desperate to get out of your parent’s house.

You twisted your sweater sleeves around your hands as you tried to process everything.

“So, erm, I suppose I ought to start looking for somewhere else?”

You really didn’t want to have to move back in with your parents; you and your mom were too alike to be able to get on for longer than a few days.

“Well… about that. Steve and Sam have still got 9 months left on their lease, so Sam will be looking for someone to share with. Gives you a bit more breathing room and would make moving much easier.”

Nat’s suggestion made sense. You didn’t know Steve’s roommate Sam that well; he tended to keep to himself, but you’d never heard any complaints from Steve about him. Could you move in with a man you barely knew, even if his friends and yours could vouch for him? Well, when the other option was your parents, the answer was a resounding “Yes!”.

“Let’s hang out, the four of us. If I feel that Sam is someone I can live with for the short term, then we can set up a moving date.”

Nat squealed and threw herself at you, wrapping her arms around you and knocking you back on the sofa cushions. She peppered kisses all over your face, leaving red lipstick marks.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

You couldn’t help but laugh at her over-enthusiastic gratitude. And anyway, how bad could living with Sam be?

What a wonderful gift: lots of opportunities to talk about myself! :'D Thank you for sending this in! I've answered 3 in a previous ask, but I'll copy and paste the answer here so you don't have to go clicking.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I was actually surprised by how little I wrote this year lmao. So there isn’t the biggest pool of fic to choose from. If I have to choose a fic that’s finished, then I’m most proud of While the Music Lasts (Zutara) because it was written with love for one of the best. And because I got to infodump about music, throw in show references, and flex the “say a lot with little” skills I’m trying to learn from marijayne-writing.

If it doesn’t have to be complete, then you know I’m going to say Atlas: Rebuilding (Zutara). That one is a culmination of many years of very specific headcanons and tropes. :P

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

While the Music Lasts (Zutara). I honestly thought a modern band AU that’s basically just a retelling of the show with no big original plotpoints would get as much love as it did. But it was quite well-received!

6. Favorite title you used

I don’t like writing titles, actually; they’re the most difficult part of writing for me, in many ways. And with so few fic to choose from, this was a struggle for me to answer. If I had to choose one of the five fic... We Saw a Spark. Even without knowing the song reference, that line speaks a lot about hope and the sudden striking of new things that could be dangerous, yes, but could also bring light.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Azula. She may have only really featured in While the Music Lasts so far in practise, in theory there are a lot of things in my head (and in secret documents. If you know, you know) that feature her. Azula, Mai (and Aang, to some degree) are similar cases for me as a writer: I neither want to vilify or water them down. They’re human. They’re complex. And wrapping my head around that, especially in a modern setting, say, is freaking hard.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I’ve already answered this for another ask, here. But I’ll give another two lines that I’m unabashedly fond of. One speaks to my bad sense of humour, and the other to my melodramatic streak that’s actually more like a melodramatic canyon:

"'I’ll be, um. Hungry. Tomorrow. So. We could…' He hesitated, again, even as Katara sat up straighter in anticipation. 'Do you want to get dinner food things with me?' he blurted." — While the Music Lasts, ch 1.

"The song changed, and Katara rose with the violins..." — While the Music Lasts, ch 2.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I didn’t finish any of the event fic that I swore I would be done by their deadlines? No, honestly, We Saw a Spark somehow gained chapters and is months and months overdue. I’m Pikachu surprised meme that, wow, breaking my self-vow never to post something before it was complete ever again led to me ghosting my own fanfic. I guess I’m just really living up to my username in ways I never, ever expected.

Less cheekily, the biggest surprise is always the feedback. The love in the comments and the tags and the bookmark notes. The recs. The fanart (Liz, thank you <3). I hope I never stop not expecting it.

Fic I’m Most Proud of in 2022: That would have to be Stay, written for last year's Spec Recs fic exchange. It's a Samara/Nihlus (Specticar!) fic that explores what happened between them when she pursued him to exact justice all those years ago. It also touches on Samara's grief over her daughters. It was my first time writing her, and I really enjoyed learning more about her character! And of course, writing anything with Nihlus is always fun 😏 Also thought the smut was pretty hot, if I may say so. 😅

New Things I Tried in 2022:

Fic exchanges! Spec Recs was the first organized fic exchange I'd participated in, and it was such a great experience. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I'm so glad for it. I also participated in last year's Fornax Exchange and the N7 Exchange for the first time and really enjoyed both experiences.

Writing classes! In August, I started taking some online writing classes. I learned and wrote SO much, ending 2022 with a lot of short original works and skills I can try to transfer to my fic writing!

Experimenting with screenwriting! I entered some screenplay challenges where we had like a handful of days to write a 5- or 6-page screenplay based on randomized prompts. While I had a very small amount of time just to learn the basics of writing a screenplay, it was a lot of fun. And it reinforced how hard it can be to convey a character's state of mind JUST through their actions. It also made me more aware of character blocking. In general, it was a great experience!

Goals for 2023:

Draft a significant portion* of Hungry Eyes; resist posting until it becomes unbearable

Get back to polishing chapters from Vox Spiritus, maybe even post them

Wildcard🎲: For whatever random plot bunny pops up that demands my attention. Appease random plot bunny.

Be more conscious of how I think about my writing. That mostly means pay attention to the negative self-talk that starts up every so often. If I'm in a "hate my writing" spiral, I want to try and identify what specifically I'm hating on and look at it constructively (maybe even kindly), the way I would with a friend. Easier said than done, but I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Keep learning and improving my writing craft!

ELLIOT’S 2022 FIC WRAP-UP

i have read so many fics in 2022 i wanted to make a little (it’s not that little) fic rec list of my favourites of the year because all these deserve so much love!!

to start off, some fun facts (you can just skip these of course, i just think they’re interesting and i like numbers):

i have a spreadsheet that kind of functions as my fic library (i am totally normal about fics why are you asking), so i know that this year i have read approximately 6,248k words in 425 fics across 16 fandoms

the month i read the most words in is JULY with 1,384k words across 62 fics. i don’t know how i did it. shockingly, it’s followed by DECEMBER with 860k words in 79 fics, which..... that was the most stressful month of my life, HOW did i have the time to read all those fics. it’s some sort of coping mechanism i guess

my top 5 fandoms are very funny to me for various reasons:

at first place, we have STRANGER THINGS with 119 fics. listen. i knew i read a lot of st fics this year... but 119?? making it my top fandom??????? sounds fake

i am delighted to report that i managed to get YOUNG ROYALS to the second spot with 107 fics considering that i only started reading for this fandom in late october. that’s what mixing the release of an excellent new season with a very stressful exam period does to a person

sigh... i was expecting this one to be in first place, but alas, it’s only 103 fics for SUPERNATURAL this year... it’s very much possible that i read more spn fic in terms of words, but calculating that would have taken too much time

then we have BLACK SAILS with 31 fics. not really any surprises here tbh, this is the only one where i was like yeah. this fandom is where it’s supposed to be (it is however very funny how much i jumped in terms of numbers between bs and spn)

and spot number 5 with 17 fics goes to... BRIDGERTON????????? it’s not so much the number that surprises me, it’s more the fact that of the remaining fandoms, it’s bridgerton that’s managed to get into the top 5. like what is up with that. i though either 911 (14 fics) or a:tla (9 fics) would be up here, but bridgerton??? nah

JANUARY

this may be one of the most evil fics i’ve ever read but i am obsessed with it. i keep rereading it and thinking about it cause it’s sad yeah, but it’s also written so well. damn

I Follow the Path that You Choose by I_bite_my_thumb_at_thee | the witcher, geraskier | mature | 76k words

it’s a choose your own adventure fic! and it’s so fun! and so well executed on the writer’s part (much respect for that, it seems very complicated). this one is very fluffy and you can only get good endings, but the author has another one that’s a bit more risky (i killed both jaskier and geralt when i read that one for the first time). it’s really cool to run through it again and choose different paths to see what else can happen

spreadsheet notes: choose your own adventure fics might be my new favourite thing this was so fun and i'm definitely gonna reread to see what other ending i can get. i got ending 8 and it was very soft and beautiful

very unhinged behaviour from cas, i highly approve. this made me laugh so much, i had such a great time reading it

yeah i don’t even know what to say, this fic is just... it has such a beautiful and warm vibe, my mind is blank i can’t even say anything except that i fell in love with everything about this fic, the writing, the conflict, the characterisations... go read it right now

a supernatural summer camp fic!!! and it is such a joy to read!!! i love how the plot fits in so well and how dean and cas’ relationship develops and how all the kids play a small role and can shine through. the whole atmosphere made me think of summer and i remember taking breaks from watching lectures to read a chapter and it transported my into a wonderful world for a while

genuinely just such a feel good fic, and i don’t just say that because i love claire so so much. but really, if you wanna read about two badass girls driving around in the impala and finding a family along the way, this is the fic for you. especially the second installment is making me feel so many feelings

A BULLET JOURNAL AU. and the individual pages look so damn good and like so much care has gone into the little details, it’s beautiful and i’m still in awe <3 and there’s even a little bit of plot going on!!

autistic flint!!! or well, james mcgraw rather. this fic is set during the london era and it gives me such a sense of comfort just... the way james and thomas interact, i can’t... too many feelings. also this is the first ever black sails fic i read <3

APRIL

Oils on Canvas by sospes | bridgerton, benedict/henry | explicit | 56k words (227k words in the series)

just. hmmm you know, what should have happened after those scenes in the art studio in season 1. i’m just saying. but while also trudging through misunderstandings, confusing feelings, and having to navigate annoying siblings (erm anthony) finding out about gay people and overreacting. love everything all around!

spreadsheet notes: THIS IS SOOOOO-- ghaaa queer historical stories really is my niche, omg i love this so muchhhh

operation: barista (series) by @grantairesbottle | bridgerton, various ships | various ratings | 122k words

a modern au that is quite honestly my favourite bridgerton fic ever. the series has 4 installments in total, two of which are massive group chat fics that i am a little in love with. like there is so much happening and it’s all over text and the characters still sound so much like themselves and... and aaaallll the sibling shenanigans <3 like i once said i mainly watch bridgerton because of the sibling dynamics and oh boy there be so many sibling dynamics stuffed into this one. this is also the fic that had me realise that i am in fact invested in kathony which. okay i can accept that. HOWEVER my favourite part of the series is the one centering on benedict and henry (i am nothing if not predictable) because while their relationship is not the endgame of the series it is still handled with so much care and love and i genuinely cannot get enough of them in this verse

spreadsheet notes: A GROUPCHAT FIC and what a delight this was. sooo many good sibling interactions! fran! i love her! and ghaaa eloise and benedict's sad gay gc & whyyy am i so invested in a straight ship it's not healthy for me & this verse is literally everything this fic is written so beautifully i'm obsessed & chatfic of all times. colin is so fucking stupid

a fic in which sam has the brilliant (stupid! very very stupid!) idea to pretend to be gay and bring a friend to pretend to be his boyfriend home for christmas to piss off john, only to send dean into a million spirals instead. because not only does he now have to mediate between sam and john but also. sam’s pretend boyfriend is cas. who dean has hooked up with before. fun times all around

If his still only half open eyes and messy curls weren't enough to prove her point, Jemma reached out to straighten his collar. "That's because he's still growing!" Skye tousled his hair as she walked past him to take her place in the briefing room.

Y/N had texted Annie the moment the cab dropped her off at the main entrance of the hotel. She figured that she would be the soberest out of the group and would be able to meet up with her and get her up to the room. But to her surprise, all four girls came pouring out through the lobby to where she stood by the grove of palm trees.

Jessica eyed her critically, and Y/N struggled to keep a straight face. It only took seconds, before Jessica’s hazel eyes glinted and she grinned.

“Holy Shit, way to go bitch! You already bagged your vay-cay fling!”

“What?” Y/N tried. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Jessica elbowed Marie in the ribs. “Look at her face. She can say whatever she wants, but her face doesn’t lie! You look freshly fucked, babe. Spill the details! Did you get your Mile-High card punched?”

“Jesus, Jessica, let her get her stuff into the room,” Ameena interjected. “Then we can get her to spill all her secrets over margaritas.”

Y/N lowered her sunglasses and rolled her shoulders back as she sank back against the plush chaise lounge. “I didn’t fuck anyone,” she started, raising her hand in protest when Jessica, immediately called bullshit. “But yeah, I might have met a guy on the plane.”

She licked the rim of the glass and took a long sip of her marg, relishing the sting of the tequila as it mingled with the salt on her tongue. Then she continued to describe her entire flight, with Jessica, Ameena, Annie, and Marie hanging onto every word.

“You have to do it Y/N! You have to go to him!” Delly exclaimed as soon as Y/N finished telling about the searing kiss Harry planted on her just outside the gate.

Jessica slurped her margarita noisily. “You’ve been handed a gift on a silver platter!”

Y/N glared at all her friends, “You guys really were serious about that stupid pact?”

The whole idea of their retreat had been born while they were lounging around the living room in their off-campus house on a Tuesday night, drinking and chatting. Marie had been out of sorts, having been dumped by her longtime boyfriend the week earlier, when Jessica had gotten the brilliant idea that they all go to Cancun. And then she raised the stakes by suggesting that, with the exception of Annie, who had gotten engaged over Christmas, she, Marie, Ameena, and Y/N should all have a fling while in Mexico. Marie had eagerly agreed and eventually, with persuasion Ameena and Y/N hadn’t dismissed the possibility. But Y/N hadn’t fully agreed to the idea if she was being honest.

She had never been one for casual sex. She wasn’t one of those girls who needed every sexual experience to be candlelight and soft music and rose petals, but she was fairly picky when it came to whom she went out with. She didn’t feel the need to waste her time; once she realized she wasn’t compatible with a guy, she didn’t need to go out with them again. And up until today, when she met Harry, she had never had such an instant attraction to a man to the point where she would ever consider a one-night stand. She’s only slept with two guys (and fooled around with a couple of others). She had sex a grand total of eleven times, which was less than Jessica’s entire tally of sexual partners.

“Of course we’re serious!” Jessica scoffed. “Marie has been working on the cabana boy since ten this morning.”

Y/N frowned. “I just don’t… I mean… isn’t that kind of using him?”

Annie brought her brows together. “Well… wouldn’t you be using each other? It’s not like he’s asking you to marry you, Y/N. He wants you. He wants to fuck you, and feel good for a few days, to forget about that see-you-next-Tuesday who broke his heart… it’s a fling he wants too!”

Y/N ran her finger along the rim and brought it to her mouth, sucking the salty tip thoughtfully. Annie had a point. A very good point. Harry wasn’t looking for something serious. She was as much a means to an end for him as he was for her. She needed to stop overanalyzing the way that Harry proposed their potential hookup. He was drunk. He said sweet things, that made her feel special, but the bottom line was his motives were just as self-serving as hers.

And that kiss… a man who could stir such desire in her from one - okay two - passionate kisses… God, she couldn’t imagine how the sex might be.

“But I just got here… you guys won’t be mad at me for going off…” Y/N pressed her lips together. She slurped what was left of her marg and glanced around at her friends. “I mean, he said he wanted me to spend the whole time I’m here with him… are you guys okay with that?”

“Go grab your suitcase and get the hell out of here!” Ameena cried.

“Are you sure-?”

“Go!” they all yelled in unison.

Y/N exhaled, said bye to her friends, and headed back up to the room to change. She considered leaving her bikini on for a moment, but she opted for the sexiest underwear she packed and threw a sundress over it. Spying Ameena’s cosmetics bag open on the bathroom counter, she grabbed a tube of Ameena’s expensive lops gloss, smeared it on her fingertip, and applied it to her lips.

Harry came home after spending the morning at the studio, he had a quick meeting with Jeff in regards to the album he is preparing to release in the next few months.

It was around lunchtime, when he walked into the house. He was expecting to hear his daughter babbling as Jiya preps lunch for the bab. But the house was silent. His daughter, Veera, had just learned how to walk, creating as much havoc as possible. She particularly enjoys making her mum and dad chase after her.

He drops his car keys in the key bowl by the garage door, and slid his shoes off. Calling out his wife's name, Harry went to search for the two girls.

As he turned the corner into the living room, he sees his wife laying on the yoga mat in the sunshine that is streaming from the sliding doors that lead to the backyard. Next to her was a smaller yoga mat laid out. Harry got it for Veera because she would often join him when he would meditate in the morning or join Jiya when she would do her stretches.

Jiya had started yoga when she was pregnant with Veera, to help with the back pain the additional weight caused. Her dark hair is in a messy braid and she is wearing some biker shorts and one of his old shirts. And on her back was his one-year-old daughter. Her chubby cheek was smooshed against her mumma's back. Veera's curly black hair was an unkempt mess. She probably wasn't in the mood to let her mum brush it out this morning. Her fist clenched the shirt and her legs were on the sides of Jiya's body, hugging her ribcage. Jiya's head rests against the back of her hands, and her ankles were crossed. Her black rose and fell deeply, telling Harry that they have been asleep on the floor for some time.

The sight made Harry pause. A wave of contentment washed over him as he observed his girls sleep in the natural warmth the sun provided. Turning on his heel, Harry treks to his office and pulls out his camera. Walking back to the living room, Harry takes the time to take a couple of pictures of his wife and baby.

Leaving them be, Harry moves to the kitchen to start lunch, he knows when his girls wake from their nap, they are going to be hungry.

It was around when he was halfway done with the meal he was preparing, that Harry felt a tiny body collide with his legs. Veera's chunky arms wrapped around his knee, her head tilted up to look at her dadda. "Hi princess. Sleep good?"

Her cheek rubbed against his trousers as she nodded her head. Harry dropped his hand to the top of her head and attempted to push her curls back and out of her face. With a grouchy look, she lifts her hand and rearranges her hair to her liking. With a light laugh, Harry bends down and picks her up. Resting her head on his shoulder, she quietly watches Harry finish making lunch. It's just a few minutes later he hears Jiya walk into the kitchen.

"Smells good, baby." Jiya whispers, as she comes up to him and presses up against his side. Pushing up on her toes, she presses a gentle kiss on his cheek.

"Hmm... sleep well?"

"Backs a little sore with Princess here sleeping on it." she admits with a chuckle.

With a hum, Harry looks at his quiet daughter. She's a bit like Jiya when she first wakes up from sleep. Cuddly and quiet. Turning is attention back to his wife, with a suggestive tone, Harry promises, "Give you a nice massage later tonight, how's that?"

okay so for a while I've wanted to write a desi character x harry fic, mainly for representation (bc I can't find many) and because I wanted to. anyways this idea randomly struck my mind. I had another concept that I've tried to write but it never worked out the way I wanted it to so maybe this is where i can start it

Do you ever think about the fact that Steve Rogers' last canonical scene in the MCU was dancing with Peggy Carter

Only when I’m awake, anon. 😉

I’ve talked about this before, but I thought it was a nice way to wrap things up for Steve. It was clear relatively early on that the only way Steve would leave the Avengers would be death or retirement.

I’m glad they chose the second option, and I’m glad they made it Steve’s choice rather than something that was forced on him. Steve’s story has been mainly about self-sacrifice, and about soldiering on in the service of the greater good. Rather than have him go out the way he came in, so to speak, it’s nice to see him actively choosing happiness with Peggy. It shows growth.

And it’s an ending filled with possibilities for both characters. According to the rules of time travel as they’ve been explained and shown, Steve going back in time doesn’t erase the version of events that has already happened; it creates a new reality, the outcome of which can’t be predicted. We can speculate, but we have no idea what Steve and Peggy are canonically going to do with their second chance - which means that it’s left to us, the fans, to dream up all of the possibilities.

And there’s an element of wish fulfillment there that I love. I love superhero stories because they are about what could happen, about plots that aren’t bound by the limitations of our reality. How many of us have wished we could go back to a person we love who left us before their time? I can’t think of two characters I’d rather see that happen for than Peggy and Steve.

you're staying the night at rafe's apartment for the first time and of course something has to happen..

when you wake up the next morning, you wake up to an empty bed without rafe in site. however, the smell of eggs and toast lingers in the air.

you get up slowly on to feel an ache in you abdomen. normally, this means, but it can't be right?

you look down onto the bed and well...

shit.

blood. on. his. sheets.

"he's definitely not gonna like that." you whisper with worry. how can i fix this? you quickly start taking the sheets off the bed.

just as you’re done taking the sheets off, rafe yells "baby? you comin? come on i made eggs and toast.”

“yeah, coming!” you yelled, trying to hurry up and bring the sheets to the washer… you creep down the stairs slowly, trying not to make a sound.

“baby. what are you doing?”

“holy shit, rafe you scared me!” you yelp.

“well what do you have to be scared about beautiful?” he says, with a smile growing onto his warm face.

ok guys, we all know rafe is no genius.. he only knows what periods are because he lives in a house with three women.

anyways, so when he sees the dull red stain on the sheet he knows and like the gentleman he is, he takes them.

“oh no no no, baby you shouldn’t take those.” you say with a tinge of embarrassment laced in your tone.

“baby it’s okay… go into my bathroom and look in the left cabinet under the sink. everything you need should be there. i’m gonna take these downstairs, you’re gonna clean yourself up, sit that pretty butt down in bed, and let me take care of you.” rafe says, his slight smirk growing into a smile.

you’re shocked, when did he have the time to do this? “hey since when do you keep period stuff in you’re bathroom?” you ask, confusion evident on your blushing face.

“well… i mean ever since i started dating you, i just thought that i should keep stuff like that around. i want you to be comfortable at all times around me sweetheart.”

and this was the moment you knew that rafe cameron was something special… you extend your arms out and wrap them around him, giving him the hardest squeeze you could while moving your face into the crook of his neck.

“love you rafey.” you whisper.

“i love you too, now get your pretty ass in bed right now.” he laughs, placing a kiss on your temple and giving a quick swat to your bum.
