Fluffy little dumplings called idlis!😋
Mar 30, 2021 Today is World Idli Day!
Healthy and tasty idli is the main food of South India, but it can be easily seen in the plate of people of every region of India. It is usually eaten as a breakfast in South India, while being excellent in taste and health, in other places, people like to eat it in breakfast or lunch or even as a snack. Idli has now become the choice of people even at the global level. This is the reason that on this day, i.e., March 30, people all over the world are celebrating as World Idli Day 2021.
History and Origin:
1. Idli: According to food historians, idli first originated in present day Indonesia, which is known for its long tradition of fermented food. Later, it came to India in the form of steamed idli during the period of 800-1200 CE from Indonesia, a part of which was then ruled by Hindu kings belonging to the Shailendra, Isyana and Sanjaya dynasties. Idli is similar to a preparation called the ‘kedli’ there. Indian cooks from the royal household could have returned home with the recipe. Some theories believe that the word was derived from ‘Iddalige’, and was mentioned in a Kannada work of 920 AD, and it indicates that it was made from an urad dal batter. Also, the Sanskrit Manasollasa of 1130 AD has ‘Iddarika’, that mentioned it as a dish made with urad dal. And Tamil people first mentioned it as ‘Itali’ in the 17th century. All these references make it clear that since the very beginning, idli had the use of rice grits, urad dal, long fermentation process and the steaming of the batter to tasty fluffiness.
“The yummilicious idli has travelled from the Hindu kingdoms of South East Asia to South India and now is a global favorite! Then there were Kanchipuram idlis of Varadharaja Perumal Temple, a distinctly different 400-year-old recipe. It was called ‘kudalai’ idli. It was steam cooked in Bamboo basket. Each idli easily weighed around three kilograms!”
2. Sambar: Though there are several interesting stories to sambar, the most popular one is that sambar is named after Sambaji, the son of the great Maratha warrior, Shivaji. He was so hungry one day that he went to the kitchen himself and prepared a dal in the Marathi way. Sambaji had made sambar for the first time!
3. Dosa: Unlike idli, dosa was already in use in the ancient Tamil country around the 1st century AD, as per references in the Sangam literature. Dosa at that time was thick in size. It was also called dosa adai. One could trace the history of dosa from the songs of Baanars, a travelling community during Sangam period. There are also references that dosas were part of temple food offered as prasadams. Dosa offered in Vaishnavite temples including the Alagar Koil Temple in Madurai is popular even today.
The thinner and crispier version of the dosa was widely made in Karnataka. According to historians, dosa might have originated from Udupi town. A recipe for dosa (as dosaka) can be found in Sanskrit literature Manasollasa.
4. Traditional Recipe of Idli: Four parts uncooked rice, one part whole white lentil (urad dal) that are soaked separately for at least four hours to six hours or overnight. Once done, they are ground to a coarse paste and then combined. Next, the mixture is left to ferment overnight. The fermented idli batter is poured in greased moulds of an idli tray for steaming. The container is covered for 10-25 minutes or until the idlis are done. The final yummilicious dish is served with sambar and coconut chutney.
All this reminds me of a popular Kishore Kumar song which philosophizes that, in these uncertain times, Idli n Coffee are the essential must have healthy ingredients. The song goes like this, –
idli udli ऐ ओ idli idli ओ, 😋 idli udli ऐ ओ idli idli ओ।😋
idli udli ऐ ओ idli idli ओ, 😋 idli udli ऐ ओ idli idli ओ।😋

Have you ever had the chicken pox? No. I’m constantly in a place of waiting for it to pass by, because everyone tells me all people are bound to have it at one point in their lives (idk how true that is, though). I am also told it gets a lot suckier as one gets older, so...not too thrilled about it at all.
how often do you do laundry? I don’t handle that chore myself, but it’s done 1–2 times a week in our house.
Have you ever been evicted? Nopes.
would you grow your own garden? I don’t see that happening. I’m a magnet for killing plants.
do you know anyone who snores? I do.
Trigger warning kinda, by the end.
what is your favorite font? Proxima Nova. It’s the default font that my org used for all documents and works-in-progress, and it ended up becoming my actual real-life favorite. I’ve always picked out that font even outside of org matters.
do you know what a wombat is? Sure.
would you make a good movie critic? Not at all. I don’t know enough about different filmmaking elements to make a reliable critic. I’ve criticized things like acting, plots, and dialogues in the past, of course; but there’s still so many things that go into films that aren’t overtly projected like lighting, symbolism, hidden meanings, etc. I don’t have a very good nose for those.
what goal are you aiming for this year? In the last 8 weeks of the year? Hmm...avoiding corona would be at the top of that list, lmao.
are you currently reading any books at the moment? No. I’ve stopped opening the book I used to constantly mention on here.
when i say foxy lady what comes to mind? Beyoncé’s character in the Austin Powers movie she was in lol; her name was Foxxy.
would you have liked to have lived during the Victorian times? Wasn’t this era like a golden age of sorts for the UK? I’d love to visit for that purpose; but given the still-horrible hygiene and living conditions for most people of the time, I wouldn’t choose to live there.
would you own a Siamese cat? No.
have you ever had an ultimate adrenaline rush? I don’t think so. I’ve had bursts of energy in the past, but I wouldn’t call any of them an ultimate adrenaline rush.
do you like deviled eggs? I’ve never had them; it’s not a common dish here. But they always look so good in the American shows I watch??? I really hope they taste as good as they look.
what tends to upset you? Hearing anything about animal abuse.
what's the farthest you've walked? I can’t give you a distance, but my parents opted for us to walk the whole time we were in Bali (except if we had a tour day which included transportation). Walking in an unfamiliar - and very humid - country and not knowing where anything is (this was before food and travel apps got as detailed as they are today) and ending up walking long stretches because you can’t locate any good local spots is a very easy way to run out of patience, apparently.
what is your favorite horror movie? Carrie was pretty fun.
what does your favorite shirt look like? It’s a twist on the Chicago flag, made black and red and with a raised fist in the middle. At the back it says “CM Punk: Best in the World.” Been my favorite and most overused shirt for the past 9 years. My friends tease me about it sometimes, but I don’t care lol, the shirt is very significant to me.
is your life like a daily routine? It is, but I prefer that it is. I like when things are in my control and, for the most part, predictable. I enjoy spontaneity in short bursts.
were you ever told as a child if you eat carrots you'll have pretty eyes? So many times.
what career are you most interested in? Communications and media, so it’s great that I’m headed there so far.
have you ever seen a rooster? Sure.
what time do you usually wake up? I wake up wake up by 7:30 or 8 AM, but I usually also wake up for a bit any time between 4–6 AM. Sometimes I choose to stay up from then, and sometimes I’d want to go back to sleep.
what do you think about religion? It’s good when people use it for good, or if it has helped save a person’s life. In my own personal experience, though, it’s beenhard to find Christians who aren’t hypocritical. So even though I see religion’s potential, I don’t have a lot of trust in believers themselves.
what made you feel most accomplished in your life so far? Graduating college.
have you ever seen a lunar eclipse? I saw the super blue blood moon two years ago, which according to a quick Google search is a lunar eclipse! So yeah, I’ve seen one.
what are you allergic to? No allergies.
do you ever feel like people hold things you do or say against you? Only my mom does this.
what can't you afford but wish you could? Front-row Wrestlemania tickets. My childhood (and now adulthood) dream is to go to Mania 50 which is only 14 years from now, but at least I still have more than enough time to save up for it.
--
what is one word that sums up this year so far? Revelatory. ever felt like you were putting your life in danger? [trigger warning] Yes, it’s called suicidal tendencies. what do you like with your eggs? If scrambled, with cheese. If omelette...stuff that crap up with everything lol. Tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, ham, bacon, and onions are all good in my book. what remedy do you partake when experiencing the common cold? The good ol’ wait-for-it-to-go-away life hack. would you ever spend a weekend in the mountains in a log cabin? That sounds amazing. I sure would. have you ever been called a psycho? No. have you ever taken martial arts? would you? No but I was always a little envious of my cousin who was taken to taekwondo class every weekend when we were kids. Sure, I’d take classes if I had the chance. who is someone you look up to? Nacho, but he’s gone now. is there something you're anxious about? I have work jitters for tomorrow, but they’re manageable for now. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty good. what is the longest you've gone without sleep? A little above 24. what is the longest you've been on the phone? This makes me cringe now, but it was like 8 hours long or something like that. It was still the ~honeymoon phase of that relationship and we were still clingy. We never did it again after that. do you care about calories? No. do you know someone with a really annoying laugh? Nah, can’t think of anyone. what band do you mostly always listen to no matter what mood? Paramore.  have you ever been to Indianapolis? Nope.
--
what type of bread do you like to eat? I eat white bread all the time, but my favorite kind is brioche. do you have any great great grandparents still living? Two greats is a bit too much don’t you think? Lmao. Anyway, my last great-grandparent died in 2010. I never knew my dad’s grandparents, and my great-grandfather on my mom’s side had died all the way back in the 70s. what is one country that you really want to visit someday? India. who usually cooks or what do you usually crave the most? Those are two different questions haha. My parents take turn cooking; and as for my craving, I find myself seeking sushi most of the time. ever been associated in a program that was a complete waste of time? Yep, like that one time I had to attend this 5-hour mandatory program/seminar before my driver’s license could be issued to me; it taught me nothing I didn’t already know about driving, and it used driving tutorials that I’m pretty sure were recorded in the 90s. This seminar took place in 2016. do weird numbers call your phone? Not regularly. Occasionally an unknown number will come in, but I reject all those. where are you right now? Sitting up on my bed. do you tend to care about other people's feelings more than your own? Yes. I really shouldn’t. what type of lifestyle do you want to obtain? if you haven't obtained it [trigger warning] I haven’t even figured out yet if I love life enough to want to stay in it. A type of lifestyle isn’t much of a priority for now. what was something that use to frighten you as a child? Getting lost at the mall. have you ever been on a train? Just once. who's been in your life the longest? did you expect this person to still be around? Apart from family, Angela. Yes, she’s here for the long haul. how do you feel about anatomy? Fascinating. I’d take a class on it. Insert interesting fact here: Read this on Reddit a few days ago, so I’ll just copy-paste the whole thing: “When Jadwiga, the King of Poland (medieval Poland referred to every ruler as King regardless of gender), was considering a marriage proposal from the Grand Duke of Lithuania, a chief concern among her court was that said Duke was rumored to have massive genitals to the point that they would kill his wife on their wedding night. Two of her councilors volunteered to travel to Lithuania to try and discover the truth of these rumors, which naturally meant they would watch the Duke as he bathed. They returned and happily reported that not only weren’t the Duke’s genitals fatally large, they were in fact a tad smaller than average, so nothing to worry about. Thus Poland and Lithuania were united, and the rest is history.” Got a chuckle out of that one when I read it that I just had to scroll through the entire thread again just to be able to share it here lmao.

10 WAYS TO FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 TRANSMISSION AT HOME
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sit at home and relax but with some responsibilities.
Sleep, netflix, eat, repeat has just become our lifestyle and not just a part of our life were before pandemic we used to do when we were tired of our work and to take a break, our entire sleep cycle has taken a major turn, I know that all our plans are being canceled, everyone had their trips planned, parties planned and etc but now we are just traveling from our room to kitchen and kitchen to room and parties? Well no one can take a risk of even thinking about parties, everyone is avoiding to go out, each on of us are taking major precautions of sitting back at our home or even if its really required to go out so we never forget our masks, sanitizers and maintaining social distance but these are the precautions we are taking but are we really focusing on taking precautions while sitting at home?  Yes our home is the safest place to be during this crisis but we should take proper care of it too, So let’s give it a look that how can we take some small steps to fight against the spread of covid-19 at home.
10 WAYS TO FIGHT AGAINST TRANSMISSION OF COVID-10 AT HOME
Covid-19 is spread through contact with humans as well as contact with the things that person who has covid-19 have touched. When someone sneezes, coughs or even talks respiratory droplets are released into the air which do not travel more than 2 m of distance that is why people are asked to keep at least 2 m distance or cover your mouth every time you are in a public place with mask or any cloth.
1.            CLEANING HOUSEHOLD THINGS FREQUENTLY
Our home is the most precious and dear thing and whenever there is some festival or some guests are coming over we always clean our house to the core, but now since the time and situation is different we are required to clean our house frequently which includes cleaning of door knobs, tables, chairs these are the things in our house which are used by many peoples and if any family member of yours have covid-19 so this step should be done without any fail for safety of other members and what do we require for cleaning our house? We require liquid soaps like colin, harpic, lizol and etc which can be easily available online or you can search
2.CLEANING WITH SOAP AND WATER.
Yes, we are getting bored with advertisements shown regarding awareness about cleaning with water and soap, every time we are watching our favorite shows, videos, movies and etc these ads pops up and disturbs our binge watching but I cannot stress more on the importance of cleaning with soaps and sanitizers, every time you come home back from outside you are supposed to wash your hands with soap or hand wash and also if you have ordered any parcel online or you are getting any groceries from outside so they should be properly sanitized before and kept outside for a while. If by any chance you find out that you are of sanitizer and going out again just for the sake of sanitizer can be very risky so not to worry much you have an easy access to one of the best medicine app in India 3MEDS you can easily place order on this app and the sanitizer or any other required will be at your door steps within no time.
3. BLEACH AGAINST COVID-19
Yes you read it right, bleach can be used to fight against covid-19, we all know that how strongly effective is bleach, the solution very easy to make you literally need nothing but just bleach and water, combining 4 tbs (about 20 ml) of household bleach and 1 quarter (slightly less than 1 L) of water.
4. CLEANING OF ELECTRONICS
Our survival kit which includes laptops, mobile, T.V and etc they need to be cleaned frequently too as we use them all the time and for cleaning electronics disinfect wipes are available with 70% alcohol they might not be easily available in the market but you can find them on online app 3MEDS .
5. ONE MEMBER AT A TIME
You cannot totally lock yourself inside because of the daily necessary things that are required for your survival are to be bought from outside but what we can do is letting only our 1 family member at a time to go out and get all the required things and that particular family member should be covered and go safely.
6. KEEP YOUR THINGS TO YOU
Living at home with our family or friends we do not think that much about before sharing our things with them but this little carelessness can lead into some big trouble that is why during this condition it is better to not to share your clothes, glasses you drink from, foot wears and etc with anyone.
7. PRODUCTS TO BE STAYED AWAY FROM
Products with active ingredients such as ethanol, hydrogen and quaternary ammonium should be kept away from your use, they have not been tested against covid-19, check labels for EPA registration numbers.
8. NO VISITORS NO CORONA
So there are some benefit of corona atleast that you can stay away from your unwanted visitors, they themselves would not even think of visting at first place but still if they think of giving you a visit so you can give them a genuine reason now and also it is very crucial to avoid any new visitor coming your home because you can never say from where they are coming from.
9. DIFFERENT BATHROOMS AND BEDSHEETS
If you are stuck in some other city because of covid or if you have a family member with covid-19 make sure that you use different bathrooms and bed sheets from them and since you are new the in town so you might would not know medical shops so you can goggle it by searching ‘medical shops near me’ it is as simple as that.
10. USE AND THROW TISSUES
If you have an infected member at you house ask them to use ‘use and throw tissues’ which can be used by them to cover their mouth while and coughing and then should thrown in the dustbin positively.
Our lives are in our hands so we are the ones who will be responsible for our own loss, so these were very easy steps mentioned above following them is very important and also very easy, these little steps can be very helpful in saving ourselves from getting infected and we will be able to win over this big fight very soon and then we will be set free finally.

“Please let me go ‘round again.”
— John Prine
I thought the apocalypse would be more exciting. Some kind of heaven-sent fireball, a mushroom cloud of malaise, Mad Max dune buggies. In this far off light I’d always pictured myself bearded, barricaded, adroitly philosophical, suddenly quite adept at swinging a sort of spiked bat or other homemade zombie stopper. Instead, so far, some five weeks in, nobody I know has gotten sick. Nobody in my orbit has died. Even being accosted by our neighborhood Jehovah’s Witness on the street, being told of end times and other corporeal human collapses I couldn’t stand or fully hear—being as they were, uttered by a man six feet away, while a two-year-old pent-up from quarantine perched on my shoulders and periodically bonked my head urging movement—took place from a mindful, strangely respectable social distance.
Mostly these days just find me as an iPhone-glued glut of dissociated dread. A musty sack of torpor filling out ironically-named Champion jogging pants and a Totino’s-stained hoodie crowned by a hastily shaved head. What I’m currently reminded of, for some reason, from somewhere deep within the lizard brain that was weaned on world-end movies, is Deep Impact, and the way it all ends for Tea Leoni’s character: in front of a beloved beachhouse, with brave acceptance, facing truth and demise in the form of an imminent asteroid death, with her—father, maybe? (This recall may be way off, as I only saw the movie once, maybe 20 years ago, but I have a current therapist-mandated pause from internet research as the slightest twitch toward dot com-ing leads inevitably, instantly to a Milla Jovovich in Fifth Element-like doom scroll of terror). Regardless, this is how I view my resignation when being generous: a soft, somber, single tear strong-willed nod and jutted-chin acquiescence. I’ve had my restaurant meals, if they never come again. I’ve had too many, at too many bars. I’ve lived. So, here I am, at the freezer again, my own beloved beachhouse, mustering strength, wondering how much Ben and Jerry’s will pass before life maybe resembles normal again, or else until I see St. Pete, or St. Paul, or whichever is the one at the gates. Measuring the days till Quetzalcoatl in pints of Chunky Monkey. Wondering if I’ll ever again eat Cherry Garcia as a little reward, for a jog and some push ups maybe, instead of a desperate substitute for therapy, lobotomy. My biggest preoccupation is really Instacart deliveries, and the thought of them, the threat of them, where we let the bags sit on the porch like sentinels with tales from the front lines, or like badges of middle class virus-avoidance privilege. We hope the wind cleans off the Corona, I suppose, and then we let the same bags sit inside, eyeing our wares cautiously, suspiciously by the door, weighing the three articles advising cleansing groceries is unnecessary versus the one—always from Medium—that states everything inside a grocery store will likely give you and your grandmother the plague. Then, between the subsequent wiping—of course—and the beginning to plan six days out for the next Instacart delivery, and then the moisturizing of hands out of necessity from washing hands far too much, there has been such a background din of quiet second-coming contemplation. With little to do but wipe the door handle again, with the closest social contact being yet another episode of Cheers, there’s been too much time to think on all this, on all that went, all that was snuffed by a brutal harsh Monday morning reminder—all our kicks, our joys, our dinner plans and drink diversions, all that was maybe never really deserved in the first place.
For one or another—or none at all—reason that I choose to not consider too closely, the last normal weekend in contemporary American existence was a big one. A Friday night trip to Enlightened Brewing to check out Derek Pritzl and the Gamble was a promising prospect, sure. They had recently introduced me to, made me fall deeply in love with, play over and over again, John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness.” Still, as things were, it was largely run-of-the-mill in those distant days of social possibility. Just line up one of a few willing babysitters, jot on the calendar absent-mindedly, leave it peppered, like always, with the growing-old adult notion of if I feel like it. The self-importance of a modern American. The expectation, the world owing me it’s pearls and it’s oysters and it’s artisanal double India Pale Ales, for some reason. There for taking, when we wished. It’s like we were all Mad Men men, coming home from work where you expect your dinner to be waiting, your children cleaned and polite. You did a little bit of work and now you are owed something, the other half of your existence, calm and orderly and “here are your slippers, dear.” Now there is no choosing or taking or rewarding yourself with a night out, or rewarding yourself with a night in. It’s simply like our parents have given us an indefinite timeout, with more whiskey, yes, but also more, much more, morbidity. And also our parents are not coming to our room, eventually, to tell us it will all be ok. Rather, now, they might come, and stand on the sidewalk, while we stand on the front porch awkwardly, not knowing what to do with our hands, with no Easter hugs even considered, and mom might leave sugar cookies in a bag on the sidewalk, as if we were in prison, and she was the jailer that had to slide our sustenance gruel through a slot in the door. Only her said bag came with a real wonder: do we have to disinfect that now? I ran into a friend at Enlightened, then another, then a friend of a friend, and then a work friend—hugs for all the normal tangly tendrils of an adequate social life, amplified by guitars and rollicking songs of regret and craft suds and jocular end-of-week revelry. The band was twangy and driving and jostly, and I wanted it to be louder. Actually my spoiled fragile ego knew I deserved it to be louder. Meanwhile I talked importantly about basketball and somebody told me about their trip to New Orleans. “I’ll be there in a month,” I said. Like an ignoramus, like tempting fate, like I was one of the kids on the playground in Sarah Connor’s nuclear apocalypse nightmare in Terminator 2. There was no Purell in sight, in mind.
Later, at the Newport, the bartender handed me a beer list, and I didn’t even note that, or contemplate my mortality on the fact, he wasn’t wearing latex gloves. I leaned close, doing the thing you have to do at crowded bars where you wedge between two seated patrons, brush one or both, amplify your voice to the hunched-forward Sam Malone, spittle and open mouths and casual “excuse me, I’m sorry, man” contact with strangers not an issue or thought, let alone transgression against the whole of humanity’s existence. The bummer about the NBA that night was that the Bucks were losing to the Lakers. The saddest part about John Prine was the line: “How can a love that'll last forever, get left so far behind?” What would any of us say, had we knowl—in 5 days the entirety of the NBA machinery would be suddenly halted, a broom handle stuck in the grinding gears? That I would have no chance at seeing live music again, for the foreseeable future? And that, weeks later, due to the same crippling circumstances, John Prine would be dead?
The next night, somehow, as if acting on some last-chance latent level, I found myself barreling south for a Saturday night in Chicago. I rode a crowded Amtrak. I held the steel handle up the steps, followed along close in line, plopped unworriedly right on the worn blue cloth seat, I ordered a Lyft, I closed a packed bar with out-of-town big-city tenacity. Old friends shared birthday cake in a corner. I flushed a toilet, maybe didn’t wash my hands for a full 20 seconds, poked at the jukebox, clinked glasses, performed once-normal finger and hand functions that would now cause me to douse both extremities to the elbow in alcohol and ask for a light. My buddy and I kept drinking like we were Goodfellas, bound shortly for a stint in the can, which, in hindsight, we sort of were. Then we ordered another Lyft back to his place, like signing the tab on the last real Saturday night. Sunday was disarmingly sunny, soft, pleasant, the kind of warm early spring sliver that catches you off balance, leaves you without the right clothes or your sunglasses. So we sat inside, at the bar at a place called the Moonlighter, where we nursed hangovers with micheladas and shared fiery chicken wings and sloppily severed a grease-dripping American-cheesed burger and shoved it down our gaping gullets and licked fingers and laughed at the bartender’s Nascar sweatshirt, bitched about his lassitude. It was still a day where you could like a bartender or not like a bartender, and you didn’t have to wonder if all bartenders had simply vanished, poof, gone on the wind, Leftovers-style. You could do your drinking business and move on to the next one. Which we did, literally, deciding on pizza and homebrews at a spot called Bungalow that takes—that took—itself probably a bit too seriously. We’ve often fallen into this habit of double lunch-ing, not so much because we are slobs, fat and greedy and gluttonous. And not as some kind of intuitive acknowledgment that we were approaching end times. It also wasn’t just a love of time together, collapsing the 100 miles that separates our lives with a collective unspoken vow of ceaseless Epicureanism. Well, maybe exactly because of all those reasons. Either way we ate, glad they take, took, themselves so seriously with each bite, sip. And I got a pie to go, tucking it under my arm through Union Station, cradling the box like a toddler’s favorite stuffed dinosaur during my ride home nap, a last pepperoni and sausaged vestige from the world of living, togetherness, an experience slice from before we began to view each other as potentially poisonous flowers.
My final restaurant meal was the day after, at Copper Kitchen, my neighborhood greasy spoon of fluffy omelets and watery coffee that you can never get half down before a refill magically appears tableside. A welcoming diner with video poker, and some staff that still eye me a bit questioningly because I’ve only been coming here for two years, and not 30, like most patrons always around me. By now though, with some work, our regular waitress is beginning to know the score, my daughter and I having seemingly earned the corner booth I always steer her toward. I grab the high chair myself, never need a menu, she orders her own “Mickey Mouse pancakes, please” in an impossibly tiny voice. In many ways, actually, it feels small town-worn, lived-in, like a John Prine song. A surreal slowdown, a place with a cook with a “short order face.” A spot of warm plates and unjudging respite. “If I came home, would you let me in? Fry me some pork chops and forgive my sin?” Our daddy-daughter day this early March Monday was flowing in a far more friendly manner though: another successful trip to the Domes behind us, we had full-stomach cold afternoon warm bed naps ahead. I wanted to tell her some news I was suppressing too, having just briefly talked to my wife on the phone about her recent brief phone call with the doctor. The info was just beginning to gel and bacon-grease coagulate down around my ham and cheese omelet and double-buttered rye. “You’re going to have a sister,” I almost said. Instead I let her eat more bacon, I let the waitress squeeze her arm affectionately as she poured me yet more benign coffee that I would sip and sip until it was time to leave. I didn’t say anything. It wasn’t time yet. But maybe I missed the time. How could I have known, that now, weeks later, Copper Kitchen and restaurants like it, all restaurants, are in real danger of never fully opening again? How was I to know that soon there would be no business anywhere for good news?

‘Which outfit do you prefer?’ Football freestyler behind strip-shirt craze asks fans to choose from skimpy kits (VIDEO)
Brazilian freestyler Raquel Benetti, who sparked the quarantine keepie-uppie craze and likes to strip off while showing her skills, has revealed her latest adventure and asked fans to pick their favorite from a choice of outfits.
The 29-year-old filmed herself standing in a nightie in her bedroom before jumping onto three separate pairs of football boots, editing the sequence so that her outfit changed each time she landed on the boots.
As she hopped from pink to blue and lime pairs, her sports bras and figure-hugging shorts also changed colours while the accompanying message to her Instagram following of more than 1.2 million announced: “This is my everyday routine.
“Which boots and outfit did you like the most? Combine the boots with the clothes.”
Earlier in the day, Benetti, who inspired Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic to take part in her strip-shirt challenge during the COVID-19 quarantine, revealed she had been practicing volleys in the style of former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic during a trip to the woods in Sao Paulo recently.
Benetti joined Marcela Umeko, a player for Brazilian side Corinthians, on the adventure to record “a lot of cool content” for her YouTube channel.
“Two weeks ago we went to a place in Boituva in the middle of the woods to record,” she explained, showing a photo from the sessions in which she posed by a pool in swimwear with Umeko.
“It was so fun. We threw Marcela in the pool, we woke up at 7am with a woodpecker on the roof pecking at the wood and we looked at each other exhausted, with a sore body and finding everything great.”
The “muse of the freestylers” played for Corinthians as a youth and has represented Brazil at the International Freestyle Football Federation World Cup.
“We hope that we can transmit a little of our joy for you in the video, because it was incredible,” she told her fans.
“Recording is good but recording with people who love it too is even better.”

Cinema will die, or will it ?
Tumblr media
Our planet is going through one of the first such event where the entire world has come to a stand still. No one in his or her wildest of dreams would have ever imagined something like this. Nobody could have wondered that their entire life would be turned upside down within a span of days and they would have to surrender to their home premises or where ever they are for months to come.
Our planet has got an opportunity to breathe , to heal. We have witnessed some powerful changes that just a few months of interruption in consumption pattern has brought. Rivers have come back to life, mountains are visible again, some of the extinct wildlife has resurfaced and many more. Moreover Humans as a species have got a rare chance to stop, slow down, spend time with themselves, introspect, and connect with their family and loved ones. The race has halted for a brief interval. That is one of the biggest blessing’s of Covid I can count.
Covid-19 has not left any aspect of life and its bearings untouched. Everything is affected. And everything will change, for good. Life will not be same again. Nor will the industries. The whole function and dynamics of all the industries will change. Human functioning will change. There will be entire washouts of some industries; where as some new forms of workability will take their place.
Being an independent Film Producer and a hardcore fan of real, meaningful Cinema, it pains my heart to see and predict that Cinema as a medium and Cinema Theatres as a business model will also see a major change because of this pandemic. Although like anything, there will be also be some good that will come out of it, and chisel the industry for better. I would like to throw some light on how Cinema will change due to the Pandemic.
Cinema will die, or will it? This is one of the questions that I can see lingering in the air since people really came to terms with Corona and its implications. Well, Cinema is a old age improved form of performed arts which originated when we were foraging as cavemen. It gradually evolved into Theatre and then with the advent of visual and audio technology, evolved into the Cinema that we see today. Now, I don’t think anybody can deny the fact, that nothing is permanent. Everything is changing, each moment, even while you are reading this, you are changing, you are different person that you were a second ago, your nails and hair have grown a bit long in the last one second, the earth we are positioned on, is changing its place, orbiting around the sun, which is orbiting around Milky way, which in turn is orbiting around Virgo Cluster and so on. So Yes, Cinema will also change, it will grow into something new and maybe more exciting.
With the advent of superfast Internet speeds, giving birth to streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon prime, the change was at the doorstep. We have already been a witness to their growing prowess in the last few Oscar Nominations where a streaming production took away most of the awards.
The rate and the conventional dynamics of people going to a Cinema Screen has changed considerably in the last few years because of the option to see the best of the best content sitting in the comfort of your couch. And Covid is going to be a final inevitable undeniable nail in the coffin of traditional Cinema. But there’s more to it.
A major event that we have seen during Covid is that of big studios releasing their films on Digital Platforms, because of the uncertainty over the functioning of Cinema Halls in the near future. Being locked at home and only having access to digital mobile medium as the only Content Provider had anyway made an average person more used to using it and watching content in his palms in the last two months, but release of such big budget films on digital platforms and people having no option but to watch it there, will make them further get used to this new arrangement and break the psychological glass ceiling in their head. It will set the norm and culture of such consumption pattern for future.
The kind of films that are made for Cinema Screen viewing has also changed significantly. These days, and more so in future, big budget, larger than life films are being and will be made especially for Cinema screen viewing that can immerse the audience in an experience that home viewing cannot thankfully replicate or replace currently. The small budget films and content will cater to digital mediums and it makes sense also because it takes a lot of money and resources to release any film in a theatre and the producer has to earn at least 2.5 times the investment to recover his money, after promotion expenses, distribution costs, theatre fees, taxes etc. Then there is another issue of fighting for a slot to be released and to not to be crushed by big players and finally there is no guarantee of film being a success. So it makes it quite a gamble. Big studios have deep pockets and work on an assembly line model and hence can sustain this model. Earlier small films did not have an option to release their films elsewhere and be a slave to such a difficult model but now because of digital foray, an entire new viable option has taken birth and is here to stay. And it is a welcome change. Film distribution model in India was severely screwed and desperately needed some major revamp. Covid will be play the part of balancing act for Cinema’s and its distribution model and will definitely improve its economics and structure for future.
So Cinema will open, and will open in style, as we are all waiting anxiously to go to a Cinema hall just to see a film without any interruption, on a large screen with world class audio and visual standards, that smell of popcorn and comfort of that recliner, immersing ourselves in that grand experience, being lost in the story and the lives of characters on the screen, laughing and crying with them. But how it is done might change. Like anywhere else, one will have to take precaution and there will better and more controlled hygiene and sanitation standards. Even the shoot standards will change how films are made. How intimate scenes are shot will change. These will change the energies of the story and it could be quite noticeable when you see a film.
Finally, one major change that we have seen in this industry is film festivals being cancelled across the globe. All the major film festivals across the world like Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Tribeca, Berlin Film Festival and others have got cancelled and they have joined forces to start a new online Film Festival called “We are One Global Film Festival” which currently happening entirely on Youtube. This in itself is a huge change in how we have always experienced film festivals in the past. Covid has forced the pattern to be changed. Earlier the best of world cinema was screened at these festivals and you had to be there physically to experience it. But now because of Covid, it has been forced to come into your lap. This festival started on May 28th and I feel privileged to have already seen some of the best global films this year sitting at my house.
To conclude, human beings as a species have always been an invincible and unflinching force that has defeated any adversity that has come its way, and has risen better and stronger from the ashes. I have absolutely no doubt that it will be the same for my favorite art form i.e. Cinema and I am excited about the prospects of how it will evolve and continue to engulf us, sensitize us and fascinate us in a much better way and form than ever before.
Remember Cinema is Magic, and Magic never dies.
To Cinema and its power.

COVID19 UPDATES 04/20/2020
Tumblr media
MORNING:
Nepal: 12 new cases were muslim Indians who were caught hiding in a mosque, they were being hunted as intel from Indian Army showed that they were planning to re-enter India on a corona jihad to spread it as far as possible LINK
US: CNN host gets in bed and cries over COVID19. LINK
Ohio: Ohio continues its rapid increase...now adding over 1000 confirmed cases a day for three days in a row. We’re at 11,602 cases with 471 deaths. The county that houses Columbus has now surpassed the county that houses Cleveland. Also leaping above Cleveland is the county that houses a very large state prison - Marion Correctional - with 1,057 prisoners and 103 staff testing positive.
US: Drone footage of empty mall parking lot from Saturday night. Eerie. LINK
Massachusetts: Boston Globe prints 15 pages of obituaries in its Sunday issue LINK
China: Director of Wuhan lab denies coronavirus escaped from his facility LINK
Massachusetts: Head of an MA hospital was interrogated by the FBI and had to get his member of Congress to prevent DHS from seizing their hospital’s shipment of PPE LINK
World: Semi-tongue in cheek look at “types” of people during COVID19: So, we have general population people who have a few ideas about "what should be done." Type A wants it all opened up, let the old and weak die, and lets get back to work - usually because they need to make their next car payment. The problem with type A is that they do not realize that even the healthy looking people may drop dead a few months down the line if they get continuous exposure, and that this virus is not acting as predictably as a bad flu. Type B wants to wait for a vaccine. The problem with type B is they have too much faith in science without realizing that science, especially vaccine research, has limitations and that this virus contains more than one of those limitations. Type C isn't coughing (or thinks they just have allergies) and is convinced this is all a hoax because they haven't personally seen anyone drop dead yet. They want the same thing as type A. The problem with type C is the school system. They never learned how exponential math works. They're just so accustomed to being lied to, that they think absolutely everything is a lie. Type D looks at every slight lowering of the numbers and thinks this means everything is getting better and can go back to normal. They don't realize that 998 people dying per day in a country is not actually much closer to normal than 1100 people dying per day, or that just a few weeks ago, only 10 people were dying per day. Type E are my favorite. Most people, including those above, fall under type E. Type E don't see the slow demolition of civilization that we are in. They think everything is going to keep functioning, that supplies are only limited "due to sudden demand or dumb bureaucrats," and that there is a normal to go back to. They genuinely think they see the light at the end of the tunnel and are already making plans, when we've barely passed the entrance of a pitch black tunnel with curves.
Georgia: Phoenix Air bringing COVID-19-infected Americans home for treatment LINK
RUMINT/OPINION (Mississippi): Morning! Today is the day parts of MS reopen due to the constant bitching about stay at home. Our beaches and lakes open with the stipulation only half of the allowed passengers can be on board and social distancing on the beach. More businesses can offer curbside services now. I have no issue with that because people have to stay in their car. We had a record 300 new cases yesterday so I anticipate high numbers for a couple of days due to Easter gatherings, maybe a drop off for a few days, then BOOM! We are also supposed to come out of shelter in place on the 27th. Not sure what good it has done anyway. People were flocking to stores after getting their checks to buy those TV's because they're 'sential, ya know. I'm leaning on the fence of ripping the bandaid off and let the chips fall where they may. Time to thin the herd. Yeah, I'm a nurse and will be directly impacted, but fuck, the incessant bitching is wearing on my nerves.
Canada: Ontario, Canada confirms 606 new cases of COVID-19, a new single-day high
AFTERNOON/EVENING:
Spain: Spain already has one of the world’s highest death tolls from the coronavirus pandemic. But data indicating the true number of fatalities could be much higher is fueling public anger and could cause problems for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s fragile government.
World: Op/Ed piece: No matter how you crunch the numbers, this pandemic is only just getting started LINK
Japan: #breaking Kentaro Iwata, professor of infectious diseases at Kobe University on Tokyo 2021:"To be honest with you, I don’t think the Olympics is likely be held next year, if held anytime” "Japan's government was so slow and so late in coping with the change of the situation”
Michigan: 60 workers at the JBS beef plant in Plainwell, Michigan have tested positive for coronavirus
China: Wuhan doctors who were critically ill with coronavirus wake up to find that their skin has turned dark after virus damaged their liver LINK
World: The worst of the coronavirus is still ahead, says WHO chief Tedros.
Brazil: Brazil with 383 deaths in 24 hours, the highest value since the outbreak began
World: Facebook 'Fact Checker' Worked At Wuhan Biolab; Ruled Out Virus-Leak While 'Debunking' Articles LINK
World: VIRUS MUTATED: 30 STRAINS Coronavirus HAS mutated: Some strains have become far deadlier. The novel coronavirus has mutated which could have very deadly complications for the pandemic, a new small study finds. A team of Chinese researchers from Zhejiang University say there are at least 30 strains of the virus, known as SARS-COV-2. Strains within China were some of the most dangerous and resembled ones that spread across Europe, reported the South China Morning Post. LINK
South Carolina: South Carolina Gov. McMaster says he is reopening many non-essential businesses, including retail locations, clothing shops and book sellers effective immediately. (Watch what happens)
World: We found that ocular fluids from #SARSCoV2 infected patients may contain infectious virus, and hence may be a potential source of infection" @AnnalsofIM

Networking Means Business - 6 For Conquering A Networking Event
I quickly found that rarely worked, wasn't sustainable, and something about has been created just separate from. I noticed this common underlying belief that clients had that select one look a certain way, other areas should be balanced, and so forth. not true. client stood a "3" in area and that was okay with them, great! Get out. But many would mention that was coming from balance. I'd personally totally take issue. But ironically, exercises, Corona Millionaire Website Millionaire App diet tips the regarding what "balance" should look like, in which add into the feeling of imbalance. One more place to evaluate oneself and another opportunity create incongruent decisions based on something "should" look want. So, anyone might have all these opportunities. You need to earn some income. You want to work from home come up with your own hours. You wish to be totally free from the daily grind. Yes, you and everybody else across the country. But as you know, 90% of people who join networking opportunities the actual world very beginning, Corona Millionaire App leave that opportunity inside three months without any income showing for Corona Millionaire Review this particular. So, what can you do? You can set your special hours. A person are are each night owl or your work doesn't require calling people or corresponding during normal business hours, it isn't difficult to transform your schedule. Being a freelance writer I feel pretty fortunate that I'm able to write a guide at two in the morning or two in the afternoon.
Tumblr media
Build an internet and then sell it to a person for profits. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Are featured this to generate income over the internet and you will be surprised realize that many of these people have still not crossed their twenty. It's very easy the this means to make money online if has all of the resources as well as teenagers have collected all the resources they need and flip websites for profits on an every day basis. The long and next to it will be Silicon Valley has allowed a lot of spontaneity, failure has been a given, collaboration common, networking everywhere, and some very astute immigrants (India & Taiwan in particular) learned your "great game" was competed. A superb way to cope with your customers is to get an 800 number they can call assuming they need your assist. This number cost nothing for these call and relatively inexpensive for for you to keep. Discover even automate a lot of the process so you'll physically to help speak onto the phone all the time. Ideally, you certainly will pursue part-time entrepreneurship with the intent develop the business to the thing that might walk out of the their "day job" and work in the business full-time. But, people today are content and happy running their business on a part-time basis and don't intention or desire to function exclusively in the business or leave their full-time gig. When you know people are satisfied by using a product. it gets much to be able to promote them. So look for evidence that the actual merchandise is of top quality. The next step is my personal favorite. You need to advertise your affiliate product.

Historically, different era teaches us different lessons to help us learn. We humans never learn from the past, ponders about present and anxious about future. With this vigorously-vivid deadly virus, it has affected us intimately and economically in numerous ways.
One question the media keeps asking is how this corona phase shall change us – for better? Or for worse? What are the things you will look forward too once this pass? What has C19 stolen from you during the short time?
The only difference before pandemic and after pandemic,  there won’t be any difference to people idiosyncrasy.  They still crave for attention, money and greed. Such is the life of human nature. Virus or no-virus, politics and religion shall still continue stepping over people sentiments and values.
Over the years, the culture have changed, the costumes varied, the languages have changed, the places have changed, and there seems no morals today. We are all part takers of these changes. Yet you ask what has been stolen? This little monster have grasped us our society, our work places, our festivals, our slums, our gatherings, our relationships, our health, our educational sectors, our restaurants,  our theatres, our stadiums what not… Right?
Social distancing was the first initiative in preventing C19 which has stolen the intimate relation of touch and speech, guarding ourselves from the person next is not just important but a necessity. Within a month or two, we got adapted to a new trend of masking our faces with varying shades of greens and blues. That being a trend setter, there is a whole varieties available in designs and colours. You just have to pay a hefty amount likes the ones for santisizers and gloves. In hopes of finding to purchase them cheap. If not, you may pay a fine from Rs. 200/- to Rs. 5000/- (So, go get the trendy face masks or go with head and neck completely cloth wrapped in rounds and rounds!)
Reference: https://www.rediff.com/news/report/coronavirus-in-india-more-states-make-wearing-masks-mandatory-in-public/20200409.htm
We never knew the days can go faster, at this pace, not knowing the date, time or week – formulating every day as a Sunday. Aren’t you? When there were targets to complete, month-end meetings, school day functions denoting days with dates as reminders were an assurance something was going in right path but not the kind to wake on all Sunday likely days. Dreading of what to do, Isn’t it?
During this Corona chapter, it’s really disheartening to see less people gathered around funeral places. If you have unexpected guests in a house, that will be a funeral gathering. For its our culture to pay respects for the deceased even if you miss the weddings and happy fests. Departure from this world is surrendering one own responsibility to others is one way of putting up with death. Bidding a good farewell to your loved one is the utmost respect you pay. That’s why maybe our mourning days aren’t over for actors, Irrfan Khan or Rishi Kapoor or paid our debts in full for our loved ones who didn’t get enough respect or the good will. It’s sad, when we couldn’t be a part of any rituals or bid a proper good bye. Yet again, corona stole our morals, our rituals and culture from us.
Religious places have been closed since March and will be shut for long. That doesn’t lower the beliefs of faithful ones and it shouldn’t be during these testing times. No destructions can lower the minds of people under the influence of the almighty. There can be stumbling ones down the block but it’s the trial phase. If you’ve read old testament, there were more curses compared to sins, desires and blessings. It was God standing amongst the Israelites during war be it against God or in misery yearning for help. Only in men sufferings, in lies the God’s path.
For years, the house has been so quiet but then comes the corona chapter where every in-bodies wanted to escape from the cage. There had been continuous bulbs and air-conditioners charging the hike in electricity bills. If you’re on solars, you’re saved! Why you never thought of it earlier? Work-from-home or not, you can rest up your little backs on couches. Yes, I’ve learnt, the ‘WFH’ isn’t exactly cool too. It’s something you choose so be with it. (Peace offering!) House-wives and mothers have been working continuously to feed up the hungry tummies. Baking and cooking non-stop trying out new recipes. Painting, sketching and splashing new colors, you never thought you will do after like ten years or more! Recreating memories and following videos to get that extra muscle or trim of that extra kilos. Dusting off your favorite instruments and raising the jazz you never thought you had time.
Policemen, Doctors, Nurses, Ambulance drivers, Laboratory researchers, supermarket sales person, pharmacies, media, security guards – These ones and many out there were trying to bring the pandemic down. Respect for the countless ones whose sacrified and working hard behind the screens.
Corona Warriors, that’s an apt name. Salute!
On a positive note, there are more recoveries than deaths in handful places. There are deaths unclaimed and alarmingly rising in numbers. My heart goes to Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Chennai people and many facing the struggles of not receiving a proper aid or care. Some lost in the battle of bringing the virus down. Some not having proper gears or kits, yet working for the greater good.
Lastly, what may not be possible for 10 years global cleansing, happened in three months.
The Earth was healing.

How has Covid-19 impacted the on-demand apps
Covid-19 has not only seeped into society and has left lakhs of people infected all over the world, but it has also had some adverse effects on some businesses and their mobile applications. Several features of mobile apps were left to rot in some corners of everyone’s device and faced the wrath of this deadly disease.
Consumer behavior has been affected due to the spread of coronavirus, and this has led to severe losses of some businesses. From the taxi services, to travel apps, food delivery apps, and on-demand service apps, all have come under the rage of this disease.
How were the app users impacted by COVID-19?
1. Industries like car rentals, on-demand service, hospitality, and travel came to a standstill, and people completely cut off from their mobile applications during the times of COVID-19. However, there was an increasing demand for online services for fitness. One of the best fitness apps that saw a sharp rise in its installs, 8Fit (Berlin-based) saw a rise in its users with each passing week and became one of the top-rated applications on the app store in no time. They provided free services to users.
2. Another app to hit the roof with the increasing number of installs is the meditation app 7Mind. Apart from the user activity, which was higher in the initial months of 2020, the app also saw a higher number of installs on various devices.
3. Gaming apps did tremendously well in most countries at this time. Similarly, the Compettia (Atrivity) app which is known as a gaming platform, also witnessed a growth during this period.
4. Babble, is another app that witnessed growth during Covid-19. It is a subscription-based language app that has 14 pre-installed languages in it.To make these types of apps, contact Xpertyst for android app development services
Categories of apps that have seen a decline:
Travel
Finance
On-demand apps
Taxi
Food delivery
Let us talk about each industry in detail.
Taxi industry
This is one industry that has faced the adverse effects of Coronavirus all across the globe. Since people are asked to stay inside their houses and refrain from going out, no one is availing the services of taxis, as they don’t have to commute anywhere. Along with this, another issue to add up to the fall of demand for taxis is the concept of work from home. Companies and offices have emptied out and asked their staff to work from their homes so that they refrain from contaminating the virus. This has resulted in less demand and loss of jobs.
Let’s talk about China, where the virus originated. The cab services went down by 50 percent in the country. Yellow cabs in the U.S. dropped their fares by two-thirds, but still didn’t see any ray of hope. Some other major hailing companies Uber and Lyft also saw a downward trend in the bookings made through their apps. The use of the apps reduced invariably.
The overall drop in the app session
There has been a significant drop in the app sessions of the Onde client. On average an iOS user’s time spent on the taxi apps has dropped down by 70 percent. Comparing the usage of these apps in February and March, the use of app decreased by a total of 70 percent. Well, this is an aggregate figure, however, the usage of each app country-wise has some other figures to display. While the usage of some has decreased by 50 percent, some have witnessed a major downfall with a decrease in the usage by 90 percent.
As per the government instructions, people should use a minimum of the public transport, therefore the use of taxi apps has diminished, however, people haven’t permanently deleted these applications and might start using these once it is done dealing with the pandemic, and things start falling into place.
Users are on a break
It is not that the users have deleted apps like Uber, Ola, and other car rentals, they are just taking a hiatus from their services and will resume taking the services once things get back to normal.
Uber has been a top favorite app for local commuting in most countries. As seen in the graph above, the app has tried to retain its position of either number 1 or number two. However, in the early months of 2020, it saw a fall in position as it became the 17th app from the top, and going further it witnessed another major fall to the 84th position in the overall app ranking. This proves how on-demand apps have been affected. There are no new installs of the app and the app has come to a standstill as people have stopped using the app.
Impact of Covid-19 on travel apps
The travel industry has been gravely affected by the current situation. People have been laid off as the industry isn’t able to recover all the money spent and are not in a position to pay to their employees. Therefore, the last resort for them was to lay off people. With very little new bookings, there is no scope for them to do any better in the near future. The industry will take time to recuperate. Most travelers wanted the traveling apps to provide prominent tips and travel guidelines according to the latest details of Covid-19.
According to a report in statista, following points were determined:
1- Travel related smartphone applications reduced considerably by the end of month April.
2- There were only eight percent of app users who actually used the app to make bookings from January 13, 2020 to February 2, 2020.
3- By April, 2020, there were only 2 percent of the users left to use the app.
Take a look at the Statista graph to explain the numbers:
The tourism industry was the worst affected during the lockdown as the flights came to a standstill and people weren’t allowed to leave their houses without a pass and proper information submission. The hotel and travel sectors went into shudders which lead apps like MakeMyTrip and TravelTriangle run in huge losses, laying off its employees as it made no revenue through new bookings.
In a note written to Finance Niramala Sitharama, co-chairman of Ficci national tourism council and secretary, Hotel Association of India, J K Mohanty, “While the industry has received the moratorium for three months, however, it needs a minimum of one year moratorium on all working capital, principal, interest payments, loans and overdrafts. Collateral and interest free loans up to five years for SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in tourism, which will help them, sustain and rebuild.”
While this was the scenario in India, most other nations like Italy, Spain, U.S., U.K., were among other the face the wrath of Covid-19.
Impact of Coronavirus on Food delivery apps
The third major sector to be hit by the Covid-19 pandemic is the food sector. The food delivery applications soon saw a decline in users and sales as the country entered lockdown. People started becoming more sceptical about ordering food from outside as the delivery boys might be corona carriers or be infected themselves. With some cases of these delivery people becoming affected with coronavirus came forth, people become all the more scared to order food online.
Along with the behavioural changes among the users, the food delivery apps came to a standstill with the government imposing strict restrictions on any sort of movement in the country.
There has been a considerable fall in the food delivery apps, and let’s take Instacart for example. It retained the 229th position, which was a huge fall from the 25th position, which it enjoyed before the economy was hit by Covid-19.
Now take a look at the revenue growth drivers of the food delivery business:
1- Number of customers they have on their application. This one explains the number of orders placed by the customers on the apps.
2- orders placed by each customer.
3- Take rate: These are the commission rates for each restaurant.
4- The gross merchandise value.
How has Covid-19 impacted the on-demand apps
The on-demand app was not far from suffering an economic crisis during these trying times. Many on-demand apps have lost. A large number of their regular customers stopped using their services during the lockdown and later, as they were scared of catching the virus from the service providers.
One of the most popular on-demand service apps Urban Company also came to standstill when people stopped using their services. Take a look at the services provided by Urban Company:
1- Spa
2- Beauty
3- Grooming
4- Repairs
5- Cleaning
6- Painting
7- Electricians
8- Plumbers
9- Health training
10- Yoga instructors
The major sectors that got unpleasantly affected during the Covid-19 pandemic include the likes of:
– Auto: There has been a tremendous amount of loss of jobs, that have led to incomes hitting the rock bottom, which has resulted in the reduced demand of automobiles and its part. People no more bought new cars as there was no need for them to get out of their houses.
– Hospitality: With no guests coming to stay in hotels and no new bookings, there was a downfall in the sector, resulting in layoffs and releasing of hospitality and staff that was not required. Lack of staff and the compulsory lockdown triggered a downfall in this sector.
– Aviation and tourism: As the lockdown was imposed by the governments of most of the countries, traveling and the aviation industry came to a standstill. There was a restriction on air travel and people were not allowed to book hotels or travel to other cities. These leisure travel restrictions caused a major setback to this sector.
– Apparel: Because of the lockdown there was a restricted demand in the industry of apparel and the sector also suffered low availability of labor and raw materials. This is the reason why the online sale so of apparel came to a standstill. There were no means of getting products delivered to the customers, therefore the clients refrained from making any new orders. This leads to restricted online orders and purchases.
– Building and construction: Another major sector that has been facing challenges like a lack of sales and a low supply of resources is the building and construction industry. There is no labor available at this time and the government did not allow the labor to work at this time.
The world has come to a halt and big game players of each industry have also come under the hammer. It’s time to ponder over ways to get the workflow back on track with the available resources.
Changes in the ad spent industry
Just like the apps that started down performing, the ad spent also reduced to a great extent, leading to some of the biggest players in the app industry suffering losses. Take a look at the amount spent by companies on ads:
If you examine the graph closely, you will witness a growth trend in the games segment, whereas, the productivity and entertainment categories seem to be diminishing. Looking at the segregation of apps country wise, there has been a significant rise and fall in the apps of countries in Asia. Productivity apps topped the ranks in December and January. Let’s look at the apps that took over the productivity apps in certain countries:
1- In Korea, the productivity apps were replaced by lifestyle and Health and Fitness applications in the month of March.
2- Japan saw a rise in the game apps in February, which broke the track record of all productivity apps.
3- Europe was a continent which again saw a rise in the games category for two quarters, however, it was only in France that the Productivity apps outperformed the rest in February, but it was also dominated by games and entertainment in the following month.
4- Germany saw a rise in the rank of entertainment apps throughout January. It was put on rank 2, while the productivity apps ranked number 3. The apps that suffered the biggest loss of all time in Germany were the weather apps.
5- The book’s apps were ranked last in France in the past few months, whereas the news and shopping apps ranked above the rest.
6- North and South America saw a rise in the installs of news apps in February and March, however the games apps are still on top.
On the contrary, there are several applications that have witnessed significant growth during this time.
Take a look at the new ideas people have come up with to keep the ball rolling:
1- Since we have friends that are now long lost, apps have come up with ideas to arrange house parties on video apps, where you can connect with a number of people at the same time and enjoy their company. From virtual wedding to virtual baby showers and birthday parties, everything has become a part of the digital world. Social distancing has brought everyone close on social media.
2- Job interviews are no more held in person, as people are now applying for jobs like as they used to before, but are being interviewed on video apps. Video conferencing has also become the new big deal in the industry.
3- Movies are now being live-streamed for movie buffs as they cannot step out, or go to the theatres like old times to enjoy a movie.
4- Even the celebrities are coming close to their fans as they are doing live concerts from home, which is being viewed by millions of people from the comfort of their homes.

Wrapping up
Covid-19 has come as a warning to most apps that things are not permanent and there should always be a plan B in time of crisis. However, these app companies and industries are always thriving to compete with others and find a way through. Although there are several industries that have been adversely affected by the virus, they have their ways of coping up in the times to come. Every app is ready to take this as a challenge and offer something new to its customers so that they are back in action and in competition once the pandemic is over.

Wrapping up
Covid-19 has come as a warning to most apps that things are not permanent and there should always be a plan B in time of crisis.

Impact of Coronavirus on Food delivery apps
Now take a look at the sales and apps usage impacted to a really high extent by the new novel coronavirus (Covid-19)
Another example we can take is that of Air China, which has seen a huge downfall again. Take a look at the ranking of the airlines:
Take a look at the graphical representation for the same:
Take a look at the revenue drivers of the food delivery applications:
5-      The book's apps were ranked last in France in the past few months, whereas the news and shopping apps ranked above the rest.
6-      North and South America saw a rise in the installs of news apps in February and March, however the games apps are still on top.
Now take a look at the ranking of the smartphone apps in France according to a statista report:
Most downloaded apps on the Google Play store after the Covid-19 outbreak France 2020
Published by Statista Research Department, May 25, 2020:
