With Valentines Day just eleven days away, here's a gentle reminder that when it comes to flowers - roses especially - you get what you pay for. Yes, a florist (always choose local) will be more expensive, however, the rose in this photo has been in the shop since Jan 15th.

Fareham is a large town of 115,000 people and is north of Gosport and sits between the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton on the south coast of England in Hampshire. William The Conquerors reserve army landed here in 1066. Photo taken with my Canon DSLR but I lost the photo data when I downsized it and I don't know how to stop that happening!?

30th September 2023: Titchfield Haven

Photos taken in this set: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 11. Beautiful views in the magical haven and sea front. 2. Turnstone at the harbour, lovely to see again of late they do allow for intimate views even coming on the edge of the highway at some points. 5. Moorhen. 8. A gorgeous Kingfisher which it was a thrill to see late on, I'm always captivated seeing these sumptuous birds. 9. One of a few Snipe we got exquisite views of right in front of Meon Shore hide, a key bird here which I always enjoy seeing and I've done well for them this week. It was great to take in the intricate markings of their feathers. 10. The Grey Phalarope, the main bird we wanted to see and I am so pleased we did see this dashing dainty wader characteristically spinning around on the water. Another bird year tick, a second phalarope species in as many Saturdays and it was a joy to watch I'm so thrilled to have seen one again this year.

Other bird highlights this afternoon were Ringed Plover, great Redshank views, a trio of Oystercatcher, Avocet and Lapwing three of the birds I first saw in our first ever visit in the reserve here in 2007 a key moment in getting me hooked on birds in my early birdwatching days the foundations of my life dominating hobby so I'll always owe a lot to this place, Black-tailed Godwit, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Little Egrets, Teal in good numbers again this week, Gadwall, lovely Common Gulls I always enjoy seeing these, probable Sparrowhawk and Whinchat, fine Stonechat and Swallow views and another Jay of late. Migrant Hawkers seen well, Red Admiral and Speckled Wood were great insects seen with spiders seen well here too. Bindweed, chamomile, black medick, rock samphire and tansy were plant highlights with lichen looking nice.
