I have seen a bunch of positivity/appreciation/whatever for fanwriters/artists but like. remember to appreciate your scanlators/translators. like the scanlating scene is not what it used to be because the official sources have picked up lot of like. popular mangas but you still rely on scanlators etc for more niche works and... I used to do lot of scanlating and I don't think I EVER got a positive comment or any appreciation and like... at least when I write and share my unhinged fic or art I made it to amuse myself but if I am scanlating a comic I already can read it obviously so ANY work I am putting in is 100% for other people... I have literally scanlated whole-ass series because I knew ONE person read them at all and I wanted them to experience a series I liked. If people don't like your work tho why would anyone do it then?

wtf DLC Eng translation... In the original JP version, Messmer's armor states that he made himself a symbol of fear "for the sake of his mother's wish" (same wording as "Marika made these flask for Messmer's sake").

It's a 100% no ambiguity confirmation that he did that on his own free will.

母の願い、粛清の聖戦のために -> for the sake of his mother's wish and (for the sake of) the purging crusade Messmer made himself a symbol of fear. 嘆きも、呪詛も、ただ私だけを責めればよい -> you can blame your lamentations and curses on me alone.

it's a direct reference to Marika's wish stated in Golden Braid description: 彼女が何を祈り、願い、告解したのか知る者は誰もいない (which makes sense with my theory she wishes for vengeance for what had been done to her people).

remember Genichiro? his "for Ashina's sake i will endure any burden i will shred humanity itself" ? it's the exact sentence structure (no tame ni)

why the Eng ver keeps translating these things in a long ass timey whimey way and in this case throwing in some crazy ambiguity about whether he was willing or not... and now we have a bunch of ppl screaming she made him do it among English version player base...

Just learned that the word "robot" is derived from the Czech word "robota" which means "forced labor," coined in 1920 for use in the Czech play Rossum's Universal Robots (which! Yes! ROZZUM from The Wild Robot appears to be a reference to)

I'm usually p unwell about robots in literature as it is, but just thinking about it....... their very existence.... inextricably linked to the concept of humanity's greed, arrogance, and cruelty: those themes aren't just a byproduct of what the subject naturally entails, they're implanted deep into the heart of the word itself.........

...and yet, no matter how much we as story writers like to subvert tropes.... no matter how much we as society change, and our stories change with us.... we still can't help but to humanize them. In part because of our pack bonding tendencies, but also because we've seen all too well that a person doesn't need to be artificial to be treated as inhuman. After all, the ones made to do robota were originally humans... Ough.
