Sometimes a family is a vengeful gang owner, a witch on drugs, a spider, a dyslexic runaway, a bisexual with a fantastic hat collection and a soldier who survived a cult

The end of Crooked Kingdom will forever break my heart. They all were supposed to make it. They were found family, dammit. They weren't supposed to go separate ways. (But also yes, they were supposed to, to live their own lives. But as an avid found family trope lover and inhaler, this shit hurt lol)

i really hope that Kaz sometimes visits The Wraith and helps Inej with her slaver hunting. i hope that Inej comes around Ketterdam and they have dinner. i hope Wylan and Jesper save a spare room for her, just in case. i hope Kaz gets roped into visiting the Van Eck house once a week. i hope Nina comes to Ketterdam after her wedding. i hope they’re all invited. i hope Inej is her maid of honor. i hope Jesper and Wylan live so long that they get married. i hope Kaz, Inej, and Nina are sitting and laughing at the reception. i hope Kaz finally finds peace, and finds Inej.
i hope Matthias watches, the wolves beside him.

The fact that they deleted the Jesper and Inej scene and favorited the couples scene baffles me
Why do you think six of crows is so popular?
Because let me tell you it’s not because of the ships, we all love kanej, wesper and helnik but there not the main reason for soc success.
The real reason for six of crows success is FOUND FAMILY.
Watching these characters that have no one and lost so much just bond and banter with each other and actually grow to care for one another is the real reason why everyone loves six of crows

I imagine the Crows carving pumpkins for Halloween. Wylan would work very hard at a slow pace to achieve the masterpiece, while Jesper would choose the shooting method instead of carving. It's faster, you know? Nina would make Matthias do hers. He would argue that the Fjerdans don't celebrate Halloween, but he would do it anyway. Kaz would stab two knives into the top of the pumpkin and call it a day. Inej would definitely get out of control, buy all the pumpkins she could get her hands on, skillfully carve them all in a few minutes (probably some variation on the moon and crows scenes) and then decorate the entire Slat with them, including the roof.

Something about the fact that even Kaz didn't think Jan van eck would be so shit as to not care about his own son makes it a lot more sad.

On today's episode of underrated SoC Duology quotes
It's not a gift it's a curse
But when it came down to it Jesper's life had been full of blessings. His father, his mother. Inej. Nina. Matthias, leading them across the muddy canal. Kaz. Even Kaz, with all his cruelties and failings, had given him a home and a family in the dregs when Ketterdam might have swallowed him whole. And Wylan. Wylan who had understood before Jepser ever had that the power inside him might be a blessing too.
-Crooked Kingdom, Chapter 36: "Jesper"
I am transcribing from my audiobook; punctuation and line indentation may therefore be incorrect.

Six of Crows AU where there's some sort of International Farmers Association that has big meets every now and then where farmers come from all over and Jesper's father has met Kaz's parents there before so when Colm (Jesper's father) meets Kaz he recognizes him almost immediately
"Do I know you?" Colm asks, "That is, have we met before?" And then, before Kaz or anyone else even has the chance to respond: "The Rietvelds! You're the Rietvelds' boy, aren't you? Now, which one are you, then? Jordie or Kaz?"
Someone, inevitably: "Kaz is a farmboy?!"
-
Edit: I give full blanket permission for anyone to write fanfic of this AU, btw. <3

bitches be like “found family is my favourite trope” and the found family in question is two chaotic bisexuals, a boy who calls his crush an investment, a girl who carries 14 knives, a gay who blows things up, and a dead guy.
it’s me. i’m bitches.

The Crows: “oh you know Jesper, he’s just soooo dramatic all the time!”
Jesper, who had not been trying to be dramatic and had been trying to be taken seriously: “Yep. Haha. That’s…. That’s me!”

A few interesting parallels in the SoC duology that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about yet
(Analysis/discussion of these parallels/quotes may come later if anyone's interested)
“These creatures were made to be weapons” - Jarl Brum on Grisha, Six of Crows chapter 35
“He looked like what he truly was: a weapon” - Jesper Fahey on the Khergud, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“Welcome to the Hellshow” - Kaz to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 6
“Welcome to the Ice Court, Nina Zenik” - Matthias to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 34
“Is this a play?” - Alys Van Eck “Yes love, and you’re the star” - Jesper Fahey, Crooked Kingdom chapter 8 when Alys is taken captive
“What was this but a play Kaz had staged, with that poor sucker Kuwei as the star?” - Jesper Fahey on the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“he looked like a priest come to preach to group of circus performers” - Inej on Kaz’s appearance in comparison to the rest of the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter 2
“started to preach” - Inej on Kaz leading a coup against Per Haskell, Crooked Kingdom chapter 27
“Whoever he had become, Matthias was not going to shoot someone unarmed. He'd not yet sunk so far” - Matthias Helvar, Six of Crows chapter 29
“I am unarmed” - Matthias Helvar, Crooked Kingdom chapter 38
"I didn't even know the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on his first night gambling in the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter ()
"He knew his guns better than he knew the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on the concept of aim and its relationship to his life and his zowa/Grisha abilities, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“a tiny voice inside him said he should offer to take the drug as well […] maybe he could have helped to draw the parem out of Nina’s system and set her free. But that was a hero’s voice and Jesper had long since stopped thinking he had the makings of a hero” - Jesper Fahey, Six of Crows chapter 44
“Matthias gave you the remaining parem, didn’t he?” “So?” “[…] I can’t let my father down again. I need the parem as a security measure” “No” “Why the hell not?” - Jesper and Kaz in discussion about the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 30
I'll probably be back to add more, feel free to add your own as well
