at some point she lets this worry slip around hunter. hunter, trying not to look like the cat who ate the canary, is like. [thoughtfully] [not laughing at All] [Good Friend Emotional Support Voice] hmm. i guess you could just ask him?? i mean, if it's really bugging you. pretty sure he'll tell you the truth. then at least you'll know one way or the other

amity sits on this for a while because in some rational part of her brain, she IS aware she is being stupid. but after a few weeks of "what if," she finally DOES go to darius like HI. HEY. REALLY QUICK AREYOUMYDAD ACTUALLY DON't anSWER THAT. BYE FOREVER

Panel 3 Hettie Cutburn (who has old Hollywood style text announcing "surprise Hettie Cutburn!" next to her) says "Darius! Of course! Took some digging but I found them eventually. Tell the boy I say 'hi!'". Panel four- she hands documents labeled "classified" to Darius. Later, Hunter (post timeskip) walks through a door in Darius' home, saying "hey Darius, hey Eber, I'm ba-". Next panel- Darius, Willow, and Eberwolf on the couch. Hunter says "...willow?", She replies "hey hunter!", he asks "what are you guys doing?

Darius says "oh nothing...except looking at pictures of you as a baby!" Holding up the documents from earlier. We see two pictures of a younger hunter framed like panels- the first is of hunter as a baby/toddler aged hunter freshly sprouted out of the ground with a blanket around him, covered in dirt, while the second one shows a young scout Hunter covered in bandages receiving his sprig plushie. Darius' narration reads "courtesy of Hettie Cutburn- she found the only surviving copy of your early life medical records and gave them to me". Willow says "aww, you were so cute!". The final panel shows Hunter looking embarrassed/stunned as Willow takes a photo of the documents, and Darius says "I'm considering it an early father's day present- so, thank you, Hunter". End ID]

Darius' first proper appearace in Owl House is so fucking funny in reterospect. It's not even that he and Eber are just fucking larping as villains because "oh raine's a shit actor so I guess we're gonna have to go all out on this." It's that Darius and Eda and Raine were besties in school, and Eda and Raine look at the situation and immediately just go "lets kill Darius". There's not even a discussion they're just... both immediately 100% down to murder their old friend???

Like, did they talk about this later?? Was Darius aware they were perfectly willing to go through with it, or was he expecting them to back out? Did Raine end up telling him "actually if I hadn't coincidentally realised eda had kids, you and me and eda and eberwolf would all be Fucking Dead right now. Maybe don't go so hard on the villain larp next time." Is that a conversation that happened??

And. Did they have that conversation about how they'd all be dead and unable to stop belos, all because Darius didn't stop to communicate with Raine, and then also go on to decide Raine should refuse to communicate with Eda about Anything???? And exactly how fucking disastrously did the school plays that they were presumably all in together go that 30 years on they repeatedly decide that this is the best solution?

I can imagine when they all get back to the BI Hunter is terrified but about to confront Belos himself, no magic no staff no nothing just pure concentrated power of will here, and at the last second Darius shoves him out of the way like, “Hunter, run!” First time we hear him use Hunter’s actual name, too. And Hunter, who is very obsessed with protecting others, is getting to feel himself be protected by his father figure. And Darius does this, like, fully expecting to die, but he’s at peace about it because he couldn’t protect the first Golden Guard but he can protect this one.

And then he gets a cool one-liner like “oh I’ve waited a long time for this.”
