The Umbrella Academy: the concept of second love, finding yourself, a little controversy and loss

I've noticed a very similar concept recurring with characters in TUA, and I'd like to break it down for each character individually. I'll take them by their numbers.

#1 Luther

First Love: Allison

Controversial relationship (adopted siblings)

Partially unrequited love - he was never as important to Allison as she is to him + later manipulates him (a sign of toxicity)

Still, she's very important in the development of his story and they have some nice moments and she's important to his character development, though mostly it's about him agonizing over his love for her (he falls for Sloane all the more quickly in my opinion, as he thirsts for true love)

Second Love: Sloane

Romantic relationship, despite the obstacles their feelings for each other are very pure and they have some very cute scenes together

Luther has found in her someone who understands and accepts him for who he is

Found and lost thanks to the time jump (reboot)

#2 Diego

First Love: Eudora

Ex-partner

Partial cooperation

Tragic loss: Eudora's death - partially helps his character development

Second love: Lila

From his point of view, an initially casual yet intense relationship

Controversy: Their relationship is built on Lila's lies and manipulation (she was interested in him because it was her mission, kidnaps him to the Commission and later lies to him about "their son")

Even though they are later married and have three children together, their marriage is dysfunctional

Relationship loss: Lila wants a break because she is unsure about their marriage, later falls in love with Five

#3 Allison

First Love: Luther

(Yes, it's probably appropriate to mention Patrick, but he was never really in the plot, so I won't mention him even though they were married and had a daughter together.)

More of a childhood crush

She valued him most when she didn't have anyone else around

Second love: Raymond

Her true love

He knew the truth about her and accepted her

Found and lost thanks to the time jump

#4 Klaus

First "love": Alcohol and drug addiction

An unexpected and controversial choice? Perhaps, but this "love" was very devastating and made Klaus do many crazy things

His eternal affairs can't be considered love.

Second love: Dave

The only man Klaus loved more than himself (his words)

Found and lost thanks to the time jump

Klaus got rid of his addiction thanks to him (which then came back thanks to him, but he was definitely able to help him from his "toxic love")

#5 Five

First Love: Dolores

His fantasy created through loneliness and trauma

She helped him through his years in a post-apocalyptic world

Despite not being a "healthy relationship" it had a place in Five's story and was important to his development (among other things, it foreshadowed how sensitive Five could be when he fell in love)

Second Love: Lila

His first true love

Lila was the only one who ever truly understood him and understood what he was going through + he had the happiest moments of his life with her (finally)

Controversy: she was still his brother's wife at the time, yet we know that, given the circumstances, she hadn't been with Diego for years (and wanted a break before that)

Love found through being lost in time and "lost" through going back in time

Tragic ending: erased from existence

#6 Ben

First love: Jill

One-sided crush (Jill didn't really know Ben existed)

He had partially distorted ideas about her

Jill reminds me partly of Dolores, since Ben as a ghost had very limited options

Second Love: Jennifer

A fateful yet devastating love

Feelings affected by other circumstances (Marigold and Durango)

Tragic ending: death

#7 Vanya/Victor

First "love": Leonard

A relationship built on a foundation of manipulation and lies

Yet Vanya herself mentioned the feelings she had for him, even if they were based on lies

Killed by Vanya, part of the reason for the apocalypse

Second Love: Sissy

Her/his true love

Controversy: A married woman with a family

Found and lost thanks to the time jump

Part of the reason for the apocalypse (Harlen)

#8 Lila

First Love: Diego

Their relationship had a very toxic foundation, from my perspective it was also based on Lila's rebellion against The Handler

An intense relationship, especially sexual

Their relationship gave her the family she wanted

Second Love: Five

A romantic relationship

A collaborative partnership

Controversy: the killing of her family (who later live again)

Concept: enemies to lovers

It is very interesting from my point of view that their relationships often have common points. Usually the first loves carry a trace of a certain toxicity and only the second love is the real one (though this point is slightly moot with Diego, as his healthier relationship was definitely with Eudora and Ben wasn't entirely lucky in that regard either).

Also, they all found their loves based on the time jump and also lost them based on another time event. Death is also a very common part of the story.

I also find it interesting that most, for the sake of their relationships, opposed their family (in various forms) no matter what it brought - everyone would be very selfish for their happiness.

What was the point expecting anything other than dry bones for Millie, Loona even. Vivienne going as far making this bloody long thread (post at the end) hyping people up what she's got in store for Millie when we all know how she writes. Anything written for Millie or Loona or whatever female character is not really for them. Everything written for them has to 1 tie somehow in to a male character & 2 whats written for them ultimately developes a male character more.

Two instances in the latest episode. First instance:

Loona and Millie finally interacting that doesn't have to do with work or saving the other 2 (dorks episode). And what was their conversation about...Moxxie. Millie asking her to look after him. Which understandable Millie feels she has a lot on her plate having to deal with both of them at the same time but it comes back to their "development" comes centered around a man & furthering their character.

Side tangent on how their "development" developing male character more:

From this whole thing of Millie taking a client job what I learned about Moxxie is that he does the businesses finances, he overworks himself so much he 'shuts down' in highly stressful situations especially when its beyond his control or limits, he regrets he didn't become a theatre critic.

What I learnt about Millie, she cares for Blitz & Moxxie (know this), she actually has some sort of relationship with Loona (kind of this but its logical she would have). What I learnt on Loona, she's caring dispite her tough put on persona (definitively know this), she's smart as she picked up Moxxie didn't calculate properly (didn't know this but never doubted her intelligence really).

I learnt 3 new things about Moxxie and Millie & Loona just more examples of things I already know about them because it was said about them or things I never doubted they had already naturally.

Second instance:

Millie's backstory. Her whole backstory only came about because of Blitz, because of his hallucinations she brought up her backstory as a means of comfort to HIM.

Breaking apart her backstory, yeah she doesn't owe Blitz shit nor should apologise for this:

Blitz who we seen throughout the series has done a lot of respecting towards her and her husband.

Listing the "respecting" and not a full list only what I remember

*Episode 1 constantly mistreating and physically hurting her husband, end of the episode going as far making a rape threat towards both of them.

*Episode 2 having explicit sexual fantasies about the two of them at work knowing they've in a monogamous relationship & they established that firmly.

*Episode 5 constantly invalidates her husband in front of her & her family, doesn't show him an ounce of respect ever here.

*Episode 7 stalks them on a date the two of them planned, even after Moxxie verbally told him not to, he disregarded their boundaries in all regards

And so on and so forth so this line girl no.

You cannot establish multiple times Blitz was nothing but a piece of shit towards them then all of a sudden flip it that he actually saved her, gave her a good life ect and then have her say sorry dispite all previously established in show.

Aside, also good luck to her on career, a future in the long run. Millie your pension benefit is gone

I know this show runs on having you "forget" what was previously established because its written like a bad fanfic but come on now its getting really ridiculous.

Vivienne YOU don't understand Millie or rather want to understand her more, only when you do is to when it comes to building your male characters more and just like the previous episodes, she fit the bill nicely developing Moxxie and Blitz further, Blitz more so. No amount of solid writing in this episode from Brandon and Waters can save the mess that is before this episode.

So this whole hype thread of hers was absolute nonsense, Millie sigh may you shine bright in the actual fanfics.

December special voting guide

Hello, everyone! We've now reached the end of the first phase, where you were able to request fics for the December special. Now we move onto the voting. This is how it's gonna work:

First Round (Five Polls):

1. There will be five polls, each containing 10 options (numbers representing each request). The last poll will have 9 options since there are 49 requests in total.

2. You guys can vote in each poll, choosing your favorite option from each group.

3. The first and second place from each poll (10 in total) will move on to the second round.

A continuation of last year. You, Irene and the new coworker Seulgi work for a media company, who produces music videos for entertainment companies. Around this time of the year, two female soloists are about to have their comebacks. Im Yoona and Karina. They both have similar music, similar concepts and the same target audience, which makes them natural rivals. A good music video always has a big impact of a song's popularity and success. Which of the two can convince your team to invest more time and attention into her music video?

On your way to Paris, your plane crashes and you end up on an island. When you wake up, you realize you've been captured by a group of women, who seem to have some disgusting human sacrifice in mind. You try to talk your way out of the situation. Turns out, this was only a scam to make you do whatever they want.

Another continuation for IU. One night, IU asks you to help her out. Of course you want to help her, thinking it's just sex like usual. But she asks you to do something different. Bring some of your friends. Because IU's loneliness doesn't seem to go away. Even while you fuck her. Maybe more people will do the trick.

Seulgi always loved teasing people, who could do nothing about it. She knows she is hot, so she used that. Even in class. Maybe you're lucky and Soyeon rewards you for being selfless.

Karina complaines and tries to fight it, but in the end, she knows she has to do it. She's supposed to entertain one of the company's investors during a dinner. She heard from Irene how the experiences can vary from investor to investor, so she isn't completely surprised when the older man asks her for a sexual favor. Karina hesitates, but knows that this could influence her career. For good or bad. Hoping this will be over, she starts to take off his pants, but soon, she is pleasantly surprised.

Which eventually ends in the best foursome of your life.

You were unbelievably happy, when you finally got a seat to a talk show, where Yoona and Taeyeon introduce their new winter album. And your luck seems to be on your side, when you are the person who wins a signed album. You get to go backstage to meet the two of them. Little do you know that Yoona and Taeyeon have something special in mind as well. You should've known while you listened to one of their songs.

While being Minju's boyfriend, you're also a fan and fellow SM artist of Yoona. You only met each other a couple of times, but that all changes when your father and Yoona's mother decide to get married. What does Yoona do next, after hearing your proposal?

Jessica and Krystal both have a secret. No one knows it, except those two. But when they're parents decide that one of them has to get married to ensure their company's future, they're relationship threatens to end. Will you, the future husband, be able to take care of your future wife? What exactly is the secret between her and her sister?

You're not surprised seeing Seulgi at the gym. Being an SM artist yourself, you've seen her in the company's own gym a couple of times already. But you're surprised when Seulgi declares that she is a fan of yours. Things soon escalate. And throughout your new routine, you notice that the two of you aren't the only ones who use the gym.

After seeing how stressed out Miyeon and Minnie are, Soyeon decides to help them out. She knows a place where idols like them can properly unwind. The two girls are unaware of what kind of establishment Soyeon sent them to, until they meet you.

Past is your ex SuA, Present is your current girlfriend Jiu and Future is your secret crush Yoohyeon. After waking up, you finally realize with whom you want to spend the rest of your life with. Who is it gonna be?

After her divorce, Jiyeon gets comforted by IU and her friend Yoo Inna. The two of them help her forget about her ex husband. They come up with a plan. Give Jiyeon so much pleasure, she won't even remember his name.

35:

Your rich father was always afraid to marry again, after your mother died. He never wanted to share his money or his company with anyone. That's why he only had three concubines Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun. Because your mother did when you were young, the three of them took care of you since then. When your father dies in a plane crash, you inherit everything. Which also includes some of his paranoia. Will you let the three of them stay with you, or are you too afraid that they will steal your money?

36:

Ningning, Yuna and Yeri are often jealous of their leaders. Especially when it comes to dating, since the three of them have to maintain that youthful, innocent maknae image. But when one of their leaders is rumored to be in a relationship with you, they can't hold back anymore. As one of Korea's most famous actors, you become the target of the three maknaes, who want show that they are way better at anything than their leaders.

37:

Jessi becomes more and more envious of all those younger idols as she becomes older. She knows that she never really fit the Korean beauty standard, but her jealousy keeps on growing. To her surprise, two famous idols ask her for advice. Both Kazuha and Karina are having trouble. They're both convinced that most fans only like them for their looks and not their hard work and music. As the three of them become more comfortable and vulnerable with each other, Jessi sees an opportunity to let go of her pent up jealousy.

38:

During their intense schedules, Ningning and Yeri become fed up with their leader's antics. The two of them aren't children anymore. When they hear about you, they hire you to get back at Karina and Irene. The three of you dominate the two leaders, using them as you like.

39:

The four members finally had enough of Miyeon's behavior. This expensive princess act... They are finally sick of it. When she leasts expect it, the four girls trap Miyeon and fuck this princess syndrome out of her.

40:

Irene, Karina, Yujin and Yeji all noticed that IU has gained a lot of popularity throughout the whole year. They see her as too old to still be acting out like this. Wanting to have more for themselves, they decide to convince her manager to drop her off at an hotel. The four of them punish IU for stealing their spotlight. Will IU survive the night?

Yujin always behaves like a bratty little slut. You eventually have enough of her and decide to degrade her as much as possible. The mall's bathroom becomes Yujin's home for a day as hundreds of men walk in and out.

Seohyun and Irene have the same name. The three or you have always been friends. You wish you were more than that, but you don't want to ruin your relationship with them. One day, you teasingly ask, who the better Joohyun is, triggering their competitive sides. They start with studying and fitness and eventually reach a more sexual level. Eventually, you are the one who has to decide, which of the two is the better Joohyun.

In a galaxy far far away....

Yujin and Chaeyoung are send on a diplomatic mission by the republic Senate. When they reach your planet, you and your people have a slightly different idea of how peace looks like.

G!p Ryujin brought back a surprise from Itzy's tour. A tied up Yeji in your bedroom. You make her watch you fucking Ryujin, before the two of you use Yeji however you want.

After Sana's fashion event, you, her manager, catch her changing on accident. Later one, you take a shower, the image of Sana still ingrained in your mind. You're surprised when someone suddenly joins you underneath the hot water.

After Karina's redicioulus No Nut November challenge, you find yourself in the middle of another one. Your girlfriend and Seulgi asked you to help them with their first album together. The title song "Hot and cold" has a deeper meaning, which their fans will barely able to catch, even after listening to it a couple of times. But it is the foundation for Karina's newest way to torture you. Her and Seulgi use your own lyrics against you.

Irene and Yeri go to Japan to promote their first single as a duo. Unfortunately, none of the two knew what kind of show invited them to come on. Things quickly turn into a very sexual directions as the the two women try to navigate their way through the show. In the end, you are the lucky winner and the prize is obvious.
