we have these fearmongering articles about the state of children's literacy (in the us) every decade, and whats wrong isnt necessarily the idea that literacy (in its fullest sense) has declined, but its always instructive in how this decline is interpreted; the u.s education system has been gutted to pieces by the far-right in collaboration with centrist austerity vultures, u.s education has been reordered in such a way as to discourage deeper literacy in favor of rote memorization and test taking, meanwhile more children than ever are homeschooled - a direct goal of the far-right - who most often have an extremely poor and inconsistent education, if they get one at all, and in any case, virtually no governmental authorities bother to monitor their performance (as opposed to the constant breakneck monitoring of public schools). '
so like, of course the younger generation is reading less, of course they are developing poorer literacy. thats not a failure of govt policy, that is an outcome of it. but its never about education, isnt it? its about the covid lockdowns, or social media, or "woke", or teachers unions or some other target that conveniently is already the bogeyman for the far-right, and the centrist-nazi-in-waiting media has this whole song and dance decrying the decline of the occident because little old billy would rather look at tik toks and have pronouns than read the odyssey from front to back, and you have the same group of gullible fools who eat it up without a second thought before putting on blast anyone who tells them to wait a minute.
like god, i remember these exact articles being written in 2013. there's nothing new under the sun. you want to combat increasing illiteracy in the u.s? then combat govt policies enshrining illiteracy! stop mindlessly consuming recycled moral panic junk!

What is Philosophy? (Part 2a)
From "Xenosystems" by Nick Land
However awkward the acknowledgment may be, there is no getting around the fact that philosophy, when apprehended within the Western tradition, is original sin. Between the tree of life and the tree of knowledge, it does not hesitate. Its name is indistinguishable from a lust for the forbidden. Whilst burning philosophers is no longer socially acceptable, our canonical order of cultural prohibition at its root — can only consider such punishment mandatory. Once philosophers are permitted to live, established civilization is over.
For philosophy, the whisper of the serpent is no longer a resistible temptation. It is instead a constitutive principle, or foundation. If there is a difference between a Socratic daemon and a diabolical demon, it is not one that matters philosophically. There can be no refusal of any accessible information. This is an assumption so basic that philosophy cannot exist until it has passed beyond question. Ultimate religious transgression is the initiation.
It should be of no surprise to Christian Traditionalists, therefore, to find the extremities of the philosophical endeavor mixed, intimately, into the ashes of the Third Reich. The negative religious absolute, or infinite evil of the National Socialist experiment, which supplants all positive revelation under the socio-cultural conditions of the mature Cathedral, is coincidentally’ the place where the limit of philosophy has been drawn. This is, of course, to introduce the thinking of Martin Heidegger.
As the perfect negation of Christ, or consummate fulfillment of Anti-Christ, Adolf Hitler closes — or essentially completes — the history of the Occident. It doesn’t matter whether we believe that. The Cathedral does, utterly, to the point of sealed doctrine. Heidegger anticipated this conclusion lucidly. At an election rally, held by German academics on November 11, 1933, he declared:
"We have declared our independence from the idol of thought that is without foundation and power. We see the end of the philosophy that serves such thought... And so we, to whom the preservation of our people’s will to know shall in the future be entrusted, declare: The National Socialist revolution is not merely the assumption of power as it exists presently in the State by another party, a party grown sufficiently large in numbers to be able to do so. Rather, this revolution is bringing about the total transformation of our German existence. … The Führer has awakened this will [to national self-responsibility] in the entire people and has welded it into one single resolve. No one can remain away from the polls on the day when this will is manifested. Heil Hitler!"
Naturally, as a democratic pronouncement (addressed to comparative imbeciles), only a few hints of Heidegger’s profound modulation of the Germanic “will to know” seep through. Wikipedia’s reconstruction of the occulted visionary backdrop, drawn from the work of Michael Allen Gillespie, is excellent:
"Heidegger believed the Western world to be on a trajectory headed for total war, and on the brink of profound nihilism (the rejection of all religious and moral principles), which would be the purest and highest revelation of Being itself, offering a horrifying crossroads of either salvation or the end of metaphysics and modernity; rendering the West: a wasteland populated by tool-using brutes, characterized by an unprecedented ignorance and barbarism in which everything is permitted. He thought the latter possibility would degenerate mankind generally into: scientists, workers and brutes; living under the last mantel of one of three ideologies: Americanism, Marxism or Nazism (which he deemed metaphysically identical; as avatars of subjectivity and institutionalized nihilism) and an unfettered totalitarian world technology. Supposedly, this epoch would be ironically celebrated, as the most enlightened and glorious in human history. He envisaged this abyss, to be the greatest event in the West’s history; because it enables Humanity to comprehend Being more profoundly and primordially than the Pre-Socratics."
It is misleading to suggest that Heidegger saw any distinction between “salvation” and the “the end of metaphysics and modernity”, or no meaningful distinction between the thoughtless technological dyad of Americanism Marxism and the National Socialist awakening of German existence, but in other respects this description is penetrating. By bringing the history of the concealment of Being to its ruinous conclusion, consummate nihilism would herald a return to the origin of philosophy, opening the path to a raw encounter with the hidden and unnameable abyss (Being in its own truth). As the door to the end of the world, Hitler led the way to the historically unthinkable.
Yes, this is highly — in fact, uniquely — arcane. Prior to The Event, there can be no adequate formulation of the problem, let alone the solution. By 1927, with the publication of Being and Time (Part I), Heidegger has completed what is achievable in advance of the calamity, which is to clarify the insufficiency of the Question of Being as formulated within the history of ontology.
Heidegger’s cognitive resources are basically Kantian, which is to say that he undertakes a transcendental critique of ontology, producing not a critical philosophy, but a draft for a ‘fundamental ontology’. Where Kant diagnoses the error of speculative metaphysics as a confusion between objects and their conditions of possibility (which then construes the latter as objects of an untenable discourse), Heidegger ontologizes the transcendental approach, distinguishing between ‘beings’ and their ground (Being), whilst diagnosing the attendant error of construing the ground of beings as itself a being (of some kind). Since the most dignified and thus exemplary being known to the Occidental tradition is God, Heidegger refers to the structural misapprehension of Being defining and ordering the history of philosophy — as ‘Onto-Theology’.
Critically (or ‘destructively’) conceived, fundamental ontology is that inquiry which does not pose the Question of Being in such a way that it could be answered by the invocation of a being. No adequate formulation, compliant with this transcendental criterion (or ‘ontological difference’), is realizable, because however ‘Being’ is named, its conception remains trapped within the ‘ontic’ sphere of (mere) beings. We cannot, through an act of philosophical will — however strenuous — cease to think of Being as if it were some kind of thing, even after understanding the inadequacy of such apprehension. It is thus, broken upon an ultimate problem that can neither be dismissed or resolved, that philosophy reaches its end, awaiting the climactic ruin of The Event.

“Non-time imposes on time the tyranny of its spatiality: in every life there is a north and a south, and the orient and the occident. At the extreme limit or, at the least, at the crossroads, as one’s eyes fly over the seasons, there is the unequal struggle of life and death, of fervor and lucidity, albeit one of despair and collapse, the strength as well to face tomorrow. So goes every life. So goes this book, between sun and shadow, between mountain and mangrove, between dawn and dusk, stumbling and binary. Time also to settle the score with several fantasies and a few phantoms.

2023 / 02
Aperçu of the Week:
“What you do makes a difference. And you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
(Dr. Jane Goodall, Scientist & Animal rights activist)
Bad News of the Week:
In Kriebethal, Saxony, young refugees who came to Germany without parents - so-called "unaccompanied minor refugees" - are to be housed. It's ideal that a foster home is currently empty, because it's only a transitional period of six months and just 10 to 12 children and adolescents plus caregivers. No big deal. Actually. And yet there is tremendous resistance.
Spurred on by the right-wing populist AfD ("Alternative for Germany") and the far-right (officially categorized as such by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution!) movement "Free Saxons", citizens from the region took to the streets to protest. Basically against refugee housing in their perfect world. Basta. That these old familiar ringleaders pounce with enthusiasm on every new topic with which they can march against "the regime" from Berlin and the state capital Dresden is standard. That so many of the population after "Against the Euro", "Against Corona measures", "Against the European Union", "Against Russia sanctions" etc. but now also against the weakest of the weak can be instrumentalized - or worse: actually think like that - makes me but a little stunned.
It is important to know that refugees are also distributed throughout Germany according to the "Königstein Key," which takes into account both population and economic strength at the district level. So that it remains fair. And not overburden anyone. In this respect, this dwarf revolt is also undemocratic. But unfortunately this is not really surprising, especially in Saxony, where some parts of the population have a tradition of xenophobia (I am allowed to say this, since with a father from the East I can hardly be accused of bias). After all, at the time, tens of thousands of "Pegida" ("Patriots against the Islamization of the Occident") took to the streets of Dresden to demonstrate against Islamic foreign infiltration - with just 0.2% Muslims in the entire state.
The whole thing reminds me of a statement made by then-Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015, when the right-wing peddled the argument that a million refugees (out of a population of 83 million) would "overcrowd" Germany: If there are already 83 people in a hall, it is not suddenly overcrowded if just one more enters. This calculation would result in an increase of 1.2%. In Kriebstein, to whose municipality Kriebethal belongs, there are a good 2,000 inhabitants. And we are talking about a maximum of 12 minors, i.e. 0.6% - that's just about half of it.
I am particularly annoyed by the whole thing, since it was precisely the new federal states that benefited disproportionately from the solidarity of others after the reunification of Germany. From economic development, which favored the East for decades, to the social safety net, which, for example, secured pensions for which no one had paid even a cent (or penny at the time) into the system. No one expects thanks for this. Because it was and is a matter of course of openness and kindness of heart. Which should also apply in this case. "Unaccompanied", "minor" and "refugee" - this triad is a horror for those affected. To this must not be added the feeling of being excluded, of being unwelcome, of having to fear.
Good News of the Week:
According to various experts, the ozone layer is well on its way to complete recovery. The atmospheric layer that protects humans and nature from ultraviolet solar radiation was extremely endangered in the 1980s. Initial effects were measurable in the southern hemisphere in particular, e.g. increased skin cancer rates in Australia.
Now, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep) and various researchers in the USA and Europe agree that a complete regeneration can be expected by about 2066, starting with the Arctic and ending with the Antarctic. And fortunately without geoengineering such as the introduction of aerosols into the atmosphere with feared incalculable effects on the world climate.
Crucial to this success is the implementation of the 1987 Montréal Protocol, which banned chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). This substance, formerly commonly used in sprays or refrigerators, was clearly identified as the primary source of damage to the ozone layer. And it worked. It can be that simple. Downright exemplary.
Exactly: an example. For CO2 abatement that is. If it was possible almost half a century ago to reach agreement on acting together to ban a substance that is clearly damaging to the basis of life, I don't see why it shouldn't work again. Come on!
Personal happy moment of the week:
What does "happy" actually mean exactly? Does it have to be the opposite of "sad" or can it also be seen as a kind of emotional fulfillment? Yesterday I went to the funeral of the mother of an old school friend. Along with a dozen others who sat together in the classroom nearly forty years ago. A sad occasion, actually, of course. But to experience how old comrades, who don't see each other too often (especially in the last years), embrace each other without big words, to feel a familiarity that has nothing to do with gloating buddiness, but simply with friendship, just gave me a good feeling.
I couldn't care less...
Fear of the possibly evil mother-in-law. Stupid jokes from dad. Fights with the older brother. Bad taste in costumes. First drug experience at 17. Family reservations about the partner. Self-distancing from war traumas. A groom drinking at his wedding. Did I forget one of the sensational revelations from the House of Windsor? Yes, I meant that ironically. For me, the most remarkable thing about this hard-to-follow hype about Harry & Meghan is the lucrative self-promotion, with which the two certainly take in no less than working royals. And all the media are playing along. And not just the ones on display at the hairdresser's.
As I write this...
...I once again resolve never to fall for Netflix hype again. While "Kaleidoscope" didn't turn out to be as big a waste of time as "Squid Game", it didn't live up to any great expectations. Let's see what new series we'll start tonight. Maybe "Wednesday" - nobody really seems to have that on their mind ;-)
Post Scriptum
Crises everywhere are not enough for the US Republicans. No, they want to use their majority in the House of Representatives, which started off with a rumble, primarily to attack Joe Biden. "The Biden family's business dealings involve a wide range of crimes, from human trafficking to possible violation of the Constitution," claims, for example, James Comer, freshly minted chairman of the Oversight Committee. Or Jim Jordan, chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, who announced in all seriousness that Biden had ordered the FBI to bribe Twitter to censor conservatives. Of course, one of the duties of Parliament is to control the government. However, you should have learned in your school days that you don't go out to play until your homework is done.

So, I used to watch this channel where they talked about crime history and stuff, but one day they decided to make a reportage about a killer/vigilante that was active in Mexico (my country) back in the late 00's early 2010's. This particular vigilante had a name associated to a greek goddess (I'm being vague to not give any kind of traction to that channel), for whatever reason, this youtuber and their team felt confident stating that they couldn't understand why here in Mexico we could know anything about the Greek pantheon, and why would a vigilante choose that goddess name... My friends, Mexico has been part of Occident since th 16th century, we are not living in precolonial times, of course we fucking know the Greek pantheon, we have sculptures to the gods just like any other Occidental country, and to that particular goddess we have statues in all the mayor cities. But I guess in the mind of these people we are still Aztecs who rend cult to the gods of old times, we have no internet or books, we don't have an education system, and overall, we are just some brutes... Please, stop portraying my country in extremely outdated racist clichés.
popular YouTube channels are great and informative until they make a video about a topic you're informed on and then the house of cards comes crashing down as you realize how utterly wrong they are about most things

E progresiv, moderat, are toate calitățile.
D-aia și-a scris singur istoria Cezar.

MADAME X TOUR (2019)
The theater tour played in only 7 cities across North America and 3 in Europe. It featured multiple nights of shows in each city. The tour kicked off in New York City on September 17, 2019. After a mini residency of 16 nights, the tour visited Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, to end in Miami before Christmas. The European leg kicked off in Lisbon in January 2020, followed by tour dates in London and Paris. The tour was plagued by issues from the start. Firstly, there were planning issues and technical issues, resulting in a later start of the tour, several reschedulings and a few cancellations. Secondly, Madonna suffered from a serious injury, after a fall during rehearsals. This caused 5 dates in the US to be cancelled (including all 3 Boston dates), and 9 shows in Europe. Thirdly, the final two dates of the tour were forced to be cancelled amid the health crisis caused by the Corona Covid19 virus. The tour ended on March 8, 2020 with 75 shows performed (out of 93 originally scheduled). The show put a strong emphasis on the new album, with no less than 12 Madame X songs in the setlist. Several older songs were cut short to only a verse or chorus. Madonna also included some Fado songs that inspired her for the album. She took advantage of the intimate setting to have several interactions with the audience throughout the show.

Okay, first of all: DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!
second: the original post was from 2015, where Europe in general had issues with islamistic terrorism and Germany had on top of that a refugee crisis (though I'm pretty sure the crisis wasn't limited to Germany like so many other Germans when it comes to this) and therefore a lot of anti islam propaganda was spread because Germans linked the islamistic terrorists with refugees and muslims in general. It even went so far that people formed a movement called PEGIDA (Patriotische Europäer Gegen die Islamisierung Des Abendlandes) ("patriotic Europeans against the islamization of the occident") with localized names, such as "DÜGIDA" spefically for Düsseldorf, for example.
This movement was a disgrace to Europe and Germany and my only hope is that they never come back from the hell they have been sent to. They were not only nationalistic in a nazi-like way, they were so xenophobic towards people from the Arabic area to the point they spread conspiracy theories about the islam in general. Disgusting, insulting, discriminating things I will not repeat here. What made things worse is that even politicians in high offices said things like "the islam does not belong to Germany" and far worse things.
I can't read the sticker throughly cause the letters are already scratched off but I assume it is a "Gib Islamisten keine Chance" (Give islamists no chance) sticker which is a total disgrace because it uses the same design as the "Gib Nazis keine Chance" (Give nazis no chance) stickers.
And third: I've never been that kind of person to put stickers in public places or to peal them off public places, mostly because they are disgusting.
Also, I've seen these stickers becoming less throughout the years plus I think most stickers are harmless, 2015 was a very extreme year.
But of course, being careful can't hurt!

Manly P. Hall: Releasing the Good Within
One fact that is not clear 🤔 complicated to understand why the Occident 🐕🦺 has put himself on a paradox of self destruction, functioning against his own human interest; leaving Russia 🫖 china Eurasia east Asia on a position of a forced domination which will end up on the elimination of both sides.👾 A sort of extremely sophisticated Jurassic park “a global clean up if you like” from London 🙄👑🧬 King Charles the III to Washington📱 wall💲🔚 street bankers 🤡 Democratic civilization of mental enslavement the dooms day looms and approaches its happy day. There is no messiah & a God particle is similar to an alien clean up of the planet from a dangerous illness identified as the 1776🍕🍔🍟 1789 Western 👩🦯 unhealthy guided civilization. The curiosity of these facts is how humans reached this point of extinction while at the same time technology has giving him the possibility to exist on a more comfortable💗 favorable & delicious existence for humans a sort of return to paradise.💞 However once on the door of paradise an urge to suicide exist and persist, by the 1776🤡/1913 🤠FED Washington civilization confirming that the need for a global clean up becomes the only option to end the current realm and start all over again. 🌋

“Now the peculiar modern Western form of capitalism has been, at first sight, strongly influenced by the development of technical possibilities. Its rationality is to-day essentially dependent on the calculability of the most important technical factors. But this means fundamentally that it is dependent on the peculiarities of modern science, especially the natural sciences based on mathematics and exact and rational experiment. On the other hand, the development of these sciences and of the technique resting upon them now receives important stimulation from these capitalistic interests in its practical economic application. It is true that the origin of Western science cannot be attributed to such interests. Calculation, even with decimals, and algebra have been carried on in India, where the decimal system was invented. But it was only made use of by developing capitalism in the West, while in India it led to no modern arithmetic or book-keeping. Neither was the origin of mathematics and mechanics determined by capitalistic interests. But the technical utilization of scientific knowledge, so important for the living conditions of the mass of people, was certainly encouraged by economic considerations, which were extremely favourable to it in the Occident. But this encouragement was derived from the peculiarities of the social structure of the Occident.” ― Max Weber, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism

The replies on this post about how sometimes people accidentally write an extremely, almost bizarrely trans coded character and fail to realize it never fails to be funny to me because, leaving aside the fact I paid pretty heavy compliments to the creators and explicitly acknowledge their vision for the character, I find it bizarre the number of people who somehow make the Herculean leap in logic to come to the conclusion that I'm a white Euro/American man very literally demanding that the show conform to my entitled transmasc readings seeing as I'm neither white nor from the oCciDenT and functionally lived/presented as a queer WoC for most of my life until my egg cracked.
Like, don't get me wrong, there's a lot of places in which criticizing people for imposing their stupid beliefs on PoC, and in this case Asian, narratives and art but the whole "calling this character transmasc is a sign of white entitlement" thing kinda falls apart when you're trying to wield it against a Chinese/Southeast Asian person, not to mention the weird misplaced vitriol that comes about from certain people on this website when you dare to be a trans person pointing out trans coding
Blue Eye Samurai Rant
So I'm cursed with the knowledge that the creators/wikipedia page/every single instance of media coverage of Blue Eye Samurai explicitly made Mizu canonically fEmALe and I hate this?? I've read the Jane Wu interview and everything and I understand where she's coming from and the show's worth watching and there's a lot of obvious talent and writing chops that went into making it but it also woulda been so much cooler and frankly more compelling if the creators weren't CIS like frfr how the hell are you going to put so much painfully, glaringly obvious queer/trans coding and transmasc trauma into quite literally every aspect of a focal character and then deny me trans Mizu with all these quotes about how "She's an unconventional woman suppressed by the oppressive patriarchy of her time"?? I don't care how reasonable this complaint is I'm fucking ANNOYED, this is a MAN and the world owes me this much
