The Recruit: Season 2 ā€“ TV Review
TL;DR ā€“ A fascinating fun romp through a situation that was always a hairā€™s breadth away from complete implosion. āāāā Rating: 4 out of 5. Disclosure ā€“ I paid for the Netflix service that viewed this series. The Recruit Review ā€“ I didnā€™t know what to make when I sat down to watch that first season back in 2022, but I was honestly surprised by how well it walked the line between comedy andā€¦

The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Review
Tumblr media
Cast: Ju Ji Hoon, Choo Young Woo, Ha Young
Genre: Medical Drama, Action, Comedy Elements
The 8-episode short series is about a Trauma Center in a renowned university hospital. Baek Gang Hyeok is an expert surgeon newly appointed to head the trauma team in the hospital. He takes a younger doctor, Yang Jae Won, under his wing along with an experienced, spirited nurse, Cheon Jang Mi. Together, this team faces various challenges every day and develops a bond over time.
Tumblr media
I was looking forward to this drama since it has Ju Ji Hoon in it, and watching him perform is always a pleasure. As expected, he delivered and devoured his role as a genius doctor who is spontaneous, confident and sincere. His matter-of-fact personality comes off as ā€œrudeā€ and irks many colleagues and seniors at work, but he always speaks with his craft. He radiates confidence and peculiar charm, and his one-liners about how much he believes in himself give comic relief to the audience. The performance of Baek Gang Hyeok truly leaves an impression and I wanted to see more of him.
Tumblr media
The other actors also did really well. I have not seen much of Choo Young Woo, but him as Yang Jae Won was so memorable. His emotions and reactions to situations were so relatable and funny at times as well. Watching one of his interviews where he mentioned he studied for this role with a professor is reflected clearly in his dedicated performance. Ha Young as the cheerful yet serious senior nurse in the trauma center is the strength that holds the team together. Them, along with an anaesthesiologist who touches our hearts towards the end together become a formidable team headed by Baek Gang Hyeok.
Tumblr media
The show also has a lot of other familiar faces as supporting characters, and each of them bring their own elements and plot devices to the show. The show is focused throughout the eight episodes, absolutely no-nonsense and made with high precision. The audience can clearly see the amount of effort that went into making the show and this realism enamours us. This has to be one of the best medical shows I have seen in a while. Whether you are new to kdramas, fans of the actors or not, if you need an entertaining show that will leave you satisfied in the end, 10/10 absolutely recommend The Trauma Code. And believe me when I say, you will fall in love with Ju Ji Hoon :)

DRAMA REVIEW | Light Shop (2024)
Tumblr media
I donā€™t use the word ā€œmasterpieceā€ easily because itā€™s no easy to create a film or tv show thatā€™s literally perfect but thatā€™s the only way to describe Disney+ kdrama Light Shop.
Actor turned director Kim Hee Won makes a perfect directorial debut with this very human and heartfelt Korean gothic ghost love story.
Light Shop is a masterfully crafted production, every detail full of significance and important to understand the story as it progresses. No character is unimportant, all playing a key role in the lives of each other; and the performances of each actor nuance. Never giving away too much but managing to connect with the audience at the same time.
The technical aspects, such as cinematography, lighting and special effects, are simply some of the best you will ever find in a Korean drama.
This is the kind of kdrama you want to watch without knowing anything beforehand, but you should know the first four episodes are key for the world building and then, it twist and turns in order to take you on one of the most beautifully made rides.
Perfect.

Hellbound (Season 2)
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Hellbound (Season 2, 2024, South Korea)
Director: Yeon Sang Ho
Writer: Yeon Sang Ho & Choi Gyu Seok (based on their own webtoon)
Mini-review:
I feel like I'm one of the few people who loved the first season of Hellbound. It used an original and terrifying concept to showcase a fascinating exploration of themes like religious fanaticism, sectarianism and media manipulation. And this second (and final?) season delivers the goods once again. Yeon Sang Ho continues to be a master director of action scenes, plus the performances he gets from this cast are simply superb. On top of that, the CGI is much better than it was in the first one; I'm glad they made an effort to improve on that. I'm sure many people will stay mad at the show for refusing to give clear answers until the very end, but I think that makes the viewer feel the same chaos as the characters. If this is really the end, I have to say I really enjoyed what this dark fantasy had to offer.

HELLBOUND 2
GENRES: Drama, Supernatural
SUMMARY: What does it mean to be a sinner? What does it mean to be forgiven? Is it possible to survive Hell?
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Cults, hanboks, live-streaming, scheming governments, adorable orphans, solar trains, redemption, nightclubs, hiking, prophecies, and overdue reunions.
HOT TAKE: I tell ya, I'm so grateful that both seasons of this show are so short--these episodes are intense, emotional, and full of action that I'm not sure I would be able to handle the normal 16 ep run.
The stakes are so much higher, our organizations have had time to improve their craftiness and deceit, and the citizens of the world are that much more wary that their time for demonstration is nigh.
Although we are not graced with the acting prowess of Yoo Ah In, I will give credit where credit is due--Kim Sung Cheol did an outstanding job and really made his character his own.
