watching the sdcc panel and i am just very :) about how sweet their answers to “what are some of the micro moments from the game that have stuck with you the most over the years?” are. taliesin saying what the fuck is up with that which was the first like The Party Gets To Know Each Other moments of c3. travis saying asking his wife if he could kiss her in campaign. marisha going way back to the cannonball competition in campaign one. ashley choosing the beauyasha date but also just the silly goat noise matt made. liam adding onto that to compliment matt roleplaying grass so well and then saying his favourite moment was writing a story for laura and reading it to her as caleb for jester. and then matt saying that was his answer, and that his favourite moments of the game are when they find ways to give gifts to each other whether tangible or not. and sam saying his favourite moments have less to do with the story and is more so when he can just. see his friends across the table from him. when marisha perches and when laura and ashley are (badly) drawing dicks and liam saying he loves when sam sneezes and ashley tells him to stop it and just. yeah. they Are an extremely popular online powerhouse, but i’m so happy that they’re also friends building a world together out of gifts to and love for one another.

like i Am so enamoured with the characters and the world of exandria but the moments when you can feel the love that those people have for each other reach out from behind the stained glass of their performances (to steal a metaphor from brennan lee mulligan) are so extremely special and i am endlessly grateful that they decided to share their silly little home game with the world.

#it’s just the. laura and travis’ characters always being supportive of one another when they’re facing hardship #taliesin and marisha consistently making characters who challenge one another and still protect each other relentlessly #all of them being so fond of ashley’s characters always and literally seeing them light up in c1 episodes when ash got to join in person #sam and liam always making characters who offer one another reprieves into kindness that they don’t always get in the campaign setting #liam making orym after falling in love with keyleth as vax #marisha making laudna after matt’s storytelling with delilah and choosing vex as her body double #ashley using ‘i would like to rage’ and matt having kord ask her where she finds her strength #laura and matt always weaving these deeply complicated and emotional interactions between a daughter and a father #the gasps and yells and clapping when matt makes cool sound effects or reveals a map or breaks/ends on a cliff hanger #them ending both campaign 1 and 2 with ‘what a great/nice story’ and travis saying ‘let’s do it again!’#and it’s like. yes yes i love the comics and i’m a fan of tlovm but . seeing this well produced thing that somehow mimics #the feeling i get sitting in my living room laughing with my roommates about my ranger’s giant rat failing to climb stairs #it’s very special it’s very sweet #critical role #sdcc 2023 #taliesin jaffe #travis willingham #marisha ray #ashley johnson #liam o’brien #matthew mercer #laura bailey #sam riegel #cr cast #critical role cast #my posts

not negating anybody's experience i know black sails is outstanding regardless of how or when or how quickly you watch it. but also, as a gay person who watched it in real time, you really had to be there. they introduce anne bonny and you know your pirate history so you KNOW she's a girlliker. she has a moment with max but youre not sure where it's gonna go. because it's 2014. you wait over a year for 2x01 and she and max fucking obliterate you with the sword drop kiss scene. all anybody is talking about in the tags is vaneeleanor. a few weeks later 2.05 drops and flint is not only textually gay and kissing a man but he is waging war on england, on all of civilization for taking away his male lover. you find this out after investing fourteen hours on this show that have spanned over a year and a half in your real life. not to mention the miranda stuff and silver's arc and mr scott and madi and the death march that seasons 3 and 4 feel like when you have no inkling of how it's gonna end. but you stick with it regardless because it's good and besides it's 2014-2017 and the only genre show with gay people in it is fucking... the 100? lol anyway. more gay people flock to black sails between seasons and the tag becomes more about the gay shit than vaneeleanor, thank fucking god, finally. you all dread the last season. you brace yourselves for the worst. you thank the stars this show airs weekly because watching even just two episodes together is too overwhelming. 4.08 airs. you cry. 4.09 airs. you cry. 4.10 airs. your life will never be the same. you cry so hard you catch a fever and have to stay in bed all week to recuperate. you know this was a once in a lifetime experience never to be repeated again but you can't help but hold every other show to this impossible standard.

Ive been thinking about this for a while now, have dororo and kururu had more than two or three conversations? And then i started thinking more about the episode/encounter structures.

Im not a writer, but i am a consumer of way too many tv shows. Something that keroro really lacks is the amount of episodes driven by specific characters. In most episodes each character has a storytelling purpose apart from just being funny. Thats *fine*, of course its fine because i watched all the episodes and wasnt bored 99.9% of the time. So the formula pretty much works.

But some of my favorite epsiodes are the ones that have interactions between the characters that normally dont interact!!! I got so excited when i saw a kururu interacting with tamama episode. Or kururu and fuyuki shopping for a pc. Or the god damn dororo hat episode. THESE ARE SO MUCH FUN. Id give so much to see more episodes like this.

I love dnd and actual play shows but I do tend to get a lil bored when a battle goes on for a while so thank god d20 moved away from the storytelling and battle being their own respective episodes. I really like the blend of the two they’ve been doing for junior year.

the problem is I’m such a staunch believer in the slow buildup, the earnest enjoyment of meandering through terrible story decisions and weird nothing subplots to build up into a conclusion that explodes out from all that as fantastic storytelling and intrigue based on all that buildup, such that it makes it necessary to get through all that or you’re missing something essential, that I’m also a terrible person to talk to about what makes a story good. I can tell you plenty of what actually makes something tight and well-written and all that technical speak but how could anyone take my advice when I so so so love excruciatingly long unnecessarily complex fumbling and weird nonsense that spirals into, inexplicably, weird nonsense that makes you cry your lungs sore

have been thinking about the recent interview about the mighty nein animated series where it was mentioned that the series as a whole would be more of a departure and that vox machina s3 is a similar change versus the more canon retelling they started with in s1 and i’ve seen some negative reactions to it but honestly i’m Psyched to hear that is a change they’ve committed to in their writing and storytelling for the animated series because like. we have the campaigns. and for me the moments in the animation that have fallen the most flat or haven’t felt as fulfilling is when the show has tried to capture the Same Thing as the campaign without having the hundreds of hours of context that supported the moment in the campaign that made it Significant. and it is much much more exciting for me to have a changed story that is changed because it is now. a episodic television show and not a recording of actors playing dnd. like . yes actually Please change the storylines to be storylines and not the whims of game players. yes actually please make a good story in the medium it’s being told in.

#these r just thoughts i’ve been ruminating on #because while i love tlovm . i don’t think i really consider it a super great show in terms of storytelling #it’s great to me because . blorbos from my shows #but there are some dynamics and characters that go under developed simply because . 7 characters is a large ensemble in any work.#in a 12 ep season w 30 minute episodes ? truly like. there’s no way to have both story and character depth #the way that it’s had in the campaigns #and that’s uh. good actually #that’s why different mediums and different stories get told in different ways #tlovm #mighty nein animated #critical role

i hate these stupid ass ugly ass tracksuits they are so BAGGY and BORING and COMPLETELY LACK ANY CHARACTER WHATSOEVER and they wear them TOO FCKING OFTEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this stupid green colour looks so bad on a lot of the characters designs !!!!! at least give them neutral colours so we can work with SOMETHING !!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE at least personalize them A LITTLE BIT literally EVERYONE ON THE PLANET personalizes their school class uniforms in SOME WAY !!!!!!!!

#my toxic trait is that im super nitpicky and judgemental over the art + animations choices in this arcs adaption #while i appreciate how faithfully theyre following the manga i very much notice where its slacking in terms of storytelling and flow #some scenes are just much more impactful in the manga format than in animation and #for me personally it leads to some scenes that i had high hopes for and just ended up like .....oh #like talking to warcrimes mccriminal zaccaroni in episode 13 #or the Illicit Magical Hand Holding in the infirmary this episode #idk im just insane bc i think about it too much #but like also studio kafka i love u thank u for adapting my favourite manga mwah #tamb #mny #the ancient magus bride #mahoutsukai no yome

Being a true galaxy-brained Doctor Who fan is hitting the epiphany that every showrunner had their strengths and their weaknesses and their own interpretations of the Doctor and you can like or dislike any aspect of any showrunner and acknowledge their genuine mistakes/bad choices/yikes decisions (such as racism, sexism, homophobia, questionable undertones, lack of agency for female characters, etc.) and it is COMPLETELY VALID to have that turn you off of a Doctor/showrunner but also acknowledge that some of the things that people have considered bad writing over the years are often personal preference (valid opinion, not always valid fact) and that just as there are clunkers in every season, there's something to appreciate about every showrunner and every Doctor.

After all, "The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't always spoil the good things and make them unimportant."

#listen i am in my doctor who renaissance and i love every doctor in their own ways and dislike/like every writer for at least one thing #not a fan of how steven moffat stripped amy & river of agency but loved the fairytale vibes & heaven sent & a Christmas Carol and Bill #adored the character writing for nine and ten and their companions but you cannot ignore a lot of the antiblack writing for RTD #love the stripped back/intimate storytelling of Season 11 & the Graham&Ryan arc & the writing of 13 as a character but Thasmin is underdone #& boy is that Nazi moment with the Master all kinds of screwed up #every actor to play a companion or a doctor is amazing #I'm a big fan of some of the “worst” episodes #love & monsters end of the world tsuranga conundrum resolution curse of the black spot my beloved #and really don't like some of the more popular episodes #wedding of river song time of the doctor twice upon a time girl in the fireplace etc.#but it's all personal preference #every doctor has some of the best episodes television has ever produced #it takes you away midnight heaven sent last of the time lords 3 parter boom town parting of the ways god complex vincent & the doctor #this is a show designed to be amazing and terrible and campy and episodic and constantly renewing itself and constantly trying new things #and I LIKE THAT #I LOVE THAT #ninth doctor #tenth doctor #eleventh doctor #twelfth doctor #thirteenth doctor #russell t davies #steven moffat #chris chibnall #meta
