The way I want to write college worthy essays on Angel and Valentino, and the different ways I could approach their dynamic. We have "love as a drug", "toxic relationships as a metaphor for drugs (and vice versa)", the fucking heart on the contract Angel has signed because he LOVED Val and you can't convince me otherwise, how Angel was certainly closeted in his life and then when he went to Hell he got to be with whoever he wanted and do whatever drugs he wanted and how Valentino might have been one of his first long term relationship (AGAIN, THAT FUCKING HEART ON THE SIGNATURE HAUNTS ME, THEY WERE DATING BEFORE SIGHING THE CONTACT, YOU CANNOT TELL ME OTHERWISE), how Valentino was losing his shit over Angel living away from him(even tho Angel was still working, so it wasn't about losing money) and how it's both about control but also that they are codependent, how Valentino died about 3 decades after Angel so Angel had more experience in Hell and how he didn't just sell his soul to the first rando that offered since he's managed to keep it for decades, how I'm 110% certain Angel was either the first or one of the first souls Val had under his name, how in Poison we see those flashbacks of them having sex under dim light and it's not for a film and how Angel looked genuinely happy and comfortable with it, how Valentino is a moth and Angel is a spider yet their dynamic is contrasting that, how we NEED Angel to be the one to sever the connections with Val first and not for Husk to win his contract on a gamble (I'm not saying that Angel shouldn't get help, I'm saying that we first have to have him actively trying to break free; because he wants an out, otherwise he wouldn't be staying at the hotel (because that bit about paying rant is bullshit and he either lived in the V Tower before or nearby) or try and get sober, and that scene in EP 6 was a good start but I personally don't think it's enough to establish him actively severing his emotional and psychological ties with Val), how Valentino's brand is built on top of Angel and how without him Valentino wouldn't be able to keep up, how Angel didN'T sign the contract while high (or thought it was a marriage proposal because I've seen that mentioned and it's ridiculous) because Valentino can order him around only in the studio so Angel MUST have negotiated the terms (since from what we see having a soul owned is a 24/7 job, and yet Valentino had to beg and threaten Angel to come to him in EP 2) and how Valentino, the greedy horny piece of shit, AGREED TO THE TERMS–

Ep 101:

-aw I like seeing the whole squad being dumb kids together (especially Sasuke, bro’s been going through a lot lately)

-I’m not sure how old this Idate dude is but I really didn’t like how he was flirting with Sakura

-the animation of Idate running was kinda hilarious

Ep 103:

-the Councilman guy looks and sounds so pompous

-Jirocho is kinda goated actually

-OH SHIT THE ILLUSION GUYS FROM THE CHUNIN EXAMS ARE BACK! That’s actually kinda cool, I never expected to see them again

-there was actually good teamwork between Team 7 working together to catch Idate when he fell off the cliff

-I somehow haven’t mentioned it in this entire series but I just gotta say that I find the classic Naruto running pose hilarious

-ah I kinda missed Sakura roasting Naruto

-I love how when they were talking about the chunin exams there was just a random cut of Naruto punching the shit out of Neji. Rip Neji.

-oooooooh I wasn’t expecting Idate to be related to an existing character, much less Ibiki. I actually thought something about his name was familiar when he first said it but I didn’t make the connection

-can the boys PLEASE give Sakura an active role instead of her being a lookout/guard

-wait was the fire in Idate’s memories how Ibiki got most of his scars???

-I really wanna know what Idate’s ninja-related trauma is

-OKAY LET'S GO SAKURA!!!!!! Her ripping the mast out and clobbering multiple clones with it was actually pretty great

-I know this Aoi guy is evil or whatever but I like his hair and face, he’s kinda slaying (his outfit totally sucks tho)

Ep 104:

-I know that this is filler but it’s cool to see the rasengan carrying over from the last canon arc

-Naruto carrying Sakura out of the water was good, I like when it’s shown how much the kids care about each other

-but also the threat of Naruto attempting mouth-to-mouth being what revived Sakura was hilarious

-Aoi’s voice actor is doing a very good job of being a smug asshole

-Idate’s race opponent really stopped to take a break? It’s giving The Tortoise and The Hare lol

-okay so between Aoi and that guy who tricked Naruto into stealing the scroll in the first episode (oh and also Orochimaru), the Leaf village REALLY needs to do a better job of psychologically screening their ninja

-wow for being filler, this is actually doing a good job of showcasing Naruto’s character and how his past experiences have affected him

Ep 105:

-Naruto hauling someone bigger than him up a gazillion steps is actually kinda impressive, bro’s strong as shit

-damn Ibiki really didn’t need to be so cryptic about answering Idate’s questions

-Idate says that his brother failing him and telling him he could never be a chunin made him lose trust in ninja but like…….. I really think that Aoi tricking him is a much bigger deal

-Aoi’s sword is literally just a lightsaber (sound effects and all lol)

-wow Aoi is somehow more evil than I thought

-also Ibiki is metal as hell

-oh Sasuke is PISSED

-also I just realized that Sasuke has lost way more fights than he’s won so far-

Ep 106:

-yay for Sakura saving Sasuke! She still hasn’t gotten to do too much tho:(

-Naruto is Shonen MC-ing once again

-the animation of Aoi spinning after Naruto hit him with a rasengan was so bad but also so funny

-Idate letting Naruto use his prized knife was a good character development moment

-it’s actually a good touch that Idate mostly does the classic Naruto run while his opponent runs regularly, it shows that he used to train as a ninja

-the lord pulling an Uno Reverse card on the opposing family head when he tried to use a photo to disqualify Idate was hella satisfying

-I’m assuming Ibiki pretended not to recognize Idate because he didn’t want to have to arrest him as a traitor or something like that

-oop Sasuke’s got a pretty intense inferiority complex going, sure hope that doesn’t lead anywhere hahahahaha-

-that was actually a pretty good filler arc! It had some nice character moments, and it was good to see Team 7 doing a mission before stuff inevitably goes to shit

Ep 107:

-oh shittttt Naruto and Sasuke are gonna fight??? I’m excited but also very scared bc if Sasuke loses it’s gonna be BAD

-awww Shikamaru got promoted!

-Sasuke needs to get his ass to therapy ASAP, that shit is years overdue at this point

-I do kinda love Team 10’s dynamic. They do a lot of kinda sibling-like squabbling and teasing, which I enjoy (Choji and Ino fighting over the last piece of meat was so good)

-…highkey Team 7’s dynamic as a team interests me the least

-Shikamaru reassuring Choji that he can get girls and that he doesn’t need to change his ways was actually really nice, he seems more mature already after his promotion

-I feel like we needed more of an organic buildup of Sasuke’s inferiority complex and frustration. The level of aggressiveness he has towards Naruto/in general seems really out-of-place, ESPECIALLY if the viewer didn’t watch the previous filler arc. I guess the curse mark is involved, but it still just feels like an abrupt shift in his character

-wow Sasuke didn’t even bother to put his shoes on to fight Naruto

-so Naruto has absolutely zero tact but he’s also able to immediately AND accurately assess that Sasuke is ashamed of being “weaker” than him, which is actually pretty impressive

-these kids are full-out brawling on the roof (most notably Sasuke spewing fire everywhere) and no one is coming to stop them? Aren’t there ninja on watch or something? Kakashi we need youuuu

Ep 108:

-I still need an explanation for why one of Orochimaru’s goons has SIX ARMS and one of them has TWO FUCKING HEADS????

-yay Kakashi’s here to knock some sense into these little idiots

-actually nevermind, Kakashi is NOT equipped to handle this so can he force Sasuke to get counseling or something

-does Konoha not have patrols and people watching its perimeter???? Why are Orochimaru’s goons able to get in so easily

-Kakashi please give Sakura a hug. Kakashi stop talking to Jiraiya and comfort your fucking student. Kakashi please.

Ep 109:

-once again this show is making me crave ramen

-oh I completely forgot that Naruto didn’t know about Sasuke’s curse mark

-Sasuke seriously can’t get a break from taking constant Ls

-heeey Sasuke I know you have a boatload of unprocessed trauma and are also only 12 years old and thus are not the most reasonable and logical of people, but maybe DON’T go to the guy who bit you and cursed you and literally killed the leader of your village-

-god this scene with Sasuke and Sakura is breaking my heart.

-see I was liking what Sakura was saying until she started talking about her love for Sasuke and how him leaving would make her feel completely alone. Sakura honey you deserved better writing

-I did like that Sasuke’s last line to Sakura before he knocked her out was “Thank you for everything”. That hit unexpectedly hard for me

-I can’t believe Tsunade is sending Shikamaru, a freshly-promoted chunin, on a potentially SUPER dangerous mission. No pressure I guess?

-Shikamaru summoning Choji with chips was hilarious. I kinda love them

-damn I wish we could have gotten Shino on the squad. I wanna see him kick ass more

-YAY LEE’S OKAY (I knew he would be but yippee for Lee!)

-also aw Neji was helping Lee walk

-anyways I’m mad they didn’t bring any of the girls >:( (Tenten especially could have used screentime to show her stuff)

-I like that Shikamaru’s plan is laid out like a Shogi board, that was a cute detail and gives good insight into his thought process

So we understand now, that Gillion may be one of, and possibly a final Chosen One from the long line of Chosen One’s that presumably, (if Destiny’s Blade rolled better we’d know for sure) all had destiny and all failed. The characters we saw at the end of ep. 110 animatic suggests that there is something connecting them together, a lineage of sorts.

The real prophecy suggests that the end of the world as we know it is inevitable. That there is no true way to stop it. That this is the world’s DESTINY. It’s F A T E.

 Destiny’s Blade keeps talking abt severing the threads of fate. Could this be the fate that all the Chosen Ones are failing to sever? The world is doomed to perish, and there is a line of those blessed by all the major entities of this world that dedicate their lives attempting to find a way to change the world’s destiny, to find a way to destroy the Nameless Prince for good and prevent Mana’s inevitable succumbing to darkness. But they all failed, and so their spirits live on within the weapons they fought with, aiding the ones who come after them.

My thoughts on THC ep 8

The new pairs?? Amazing. I'm so glad they switched it up

Fuaiz and Ta's VegasPete scene could have been so gut-wrenching but the cowboy costumes and background killed the whole vibe. They really made it hard for them. I couldn't take them seriously at all and started to laugh during a scene that I expected to make me cry.

When Mio and Copper held hands before their scene and Tong said that's what Mile and Apo always do <3<3<3

Mio and Copper were so smart to use the coat instead of a knife - and then even quickly explained why there was only one coat!! They definitely could have been a little more "aware" of their (imagined) surroundings, I agree with the judges there

Mio and Copper's reactions during JJ & Jet's scene (they were fangirling so hard and I GET IT)

JJ AND JET BLEW MY TITS CLEAN OFF HOLY SHIT they added dialogue in order to adapt to the scene change and even the new stuff was sooo in character!! And JJ actually went for the kiss... their performance really pulled me in and the tension was so palpable... I might need a second to recover from JJ as Kinn...

A Niklaus Hendrix theory (spoilers for the entire series up to 110)

So, I've been meaning to share my thoughts on Niklaus Hendrix for a while now, and seems that there won't be a better time than now, but you gotta bear with me cause there's a lot I wanna say, and hopefully it'll be interesting enough to read.

So, there was a theory going around a while back that Niklaus might be a warlock, whose patron is a Fathomless. I'm new to DnD myself, so for anyone in the same situation as me, let me share what I learned. Fathomless is a sort of almost god-like entity that lives in the ocean depths, and a warlock can make a pact with it to borrow its power. What made people think that this is something Grizzly might have been influenced by, were very familiar black tentacles that seem to be associated with the creature. Of course, Grizzly's campaign is very much homebrew, so if it is connected, it was merely an inspiration, cause, though the Nameless Prince might be a creature similar in power to the Fathomless, it is a seperate entity with its own goals and abilities. But the gist of the theory, is that Niklaus is a warlock and The Nameless Prince, his patron. I'll do you one better tho. What if I told you, that The Nameless Prince WAS a patron, but not of Niklaus, but Captain Hendrix. And you may ask next: Wait, are they not the same person? Well, yes. But no. Lemme explain.

Let's go back about ten years, before the Hole in the Sea. Let's assume that by that time, Captain Hendrix is a simple warlock. Very powerful, but nothing as otherworldly as he seems to be now. He is described by Drey as a man who can never be content, he seeks more power, more control. He has a powerful patron, one of the most archaic and dangerous beings that exist, and as we learned in ep. 110, the entity that took the power of the entire world to seal away. And somehow, the same creature reached out to him. That's why Drey mentioned, that Finn would often warn Captain Rose, that Hendrix seems to be hiding something about the true power of his arcane. But, as said, Hendrix was never happy with what he already had, and one day he came to an agreement. He was promised something, he wanted most, no idea what it could have been, maybe to rule the world or something like that. In turn he was to help free The Nameless Prince from the shackles he was chained by, below the ocean. I believe that years ago, the Nameless Prince, in his fascination with the mortals, in his desire to corrupt, to know, and eventually to destroy, made his way to Mana. Here is where he was stopped permanently, somehow imprisoned with no way to leave. He wants his freedom back and he wants Hendrix to help.

Captain Rose is about to retire, but when talking with his crew, he mentions that he's unsure. That there's something that always makes him want...more. A desire. Hendrix can use that. Whatever Rose did on this last journey of theirs, it opened the hole in the sea. From then, Rose got corrupted by the Nameless Prince which led to his death, and when Drey touched the egg...something was released...but not fully. Drey was not the key, not the right person, not the Chosen One, so The Nameless Prince's release was incomplete, corrupting only a single ocean, but also releasing wild magic across the rest of the world. With what little freedom it had, the Nameless Prince did not have a way to influence the world. No body, no face, no voice. But it did have Captain Hendrix. In ep. 100 we can see that Hendrix looked much more human than he does now. His eyes turned fully black, the very shape of his face changed a little. I think what The Nameless Prince proposed to him, was a fusion. A merge of their consciousness, personalities and goals. The Nameless Prince received Hendrix's memories, his talents and knowledge, his emotions, his body and his face. A name. Niklaus Hendrix. His host in return received power beyond any mortal's imagination. The power to grant wishes and corrupt people from within. But I have no doubt, that most of what Captain Hendrix used to be, belongs to the Nameless Prince now. And he finally has a way to influence the world in order to work towards freeing himself.

There are so many things that make me think that. His deal with Chip, his desire for him not to touch the egg. In his own words "Not him, anyway." Gillion. The fact that the new prophecy makes it feel like his release is inevitable. Naturally. After all, The Nameless Prince granted himself a favor from the Chosen One as early as the 8th episode. His fascination with people, so similar to what we heard about in the book Goobleck found. His nearly absolute power, so strong in fact that he can alter the reality itself. And yet, seemingly a person with a past, experiences and even friends. That's because he's not one being. He's two. And it was very clever of Grizzly to lead us astray like that.

When Chip asks him what he desires most, he says freedom. Naturally. Cause of all the things in the world, this one thing, freedom, is what both of them, the entity and the Captain, whose body was stolen, do not truly have. And they are ready to do anything to get what they want. They are pirates, after all.

I could be going on forever, with quotes and excerpts and even more details to my thought process, but I'm afraid to bore you, so I'll leave it at that for now. Fruits Basket Manga Review , ch 110

The writer doesn’t need to rush to akito (antagonist) & give us quick background exposition & escalate her mentality to the exploding moment, simply cuz tohru (the protagonist) isn’t emotionally in her most vulnerable moment yet. Tohru’s issues will be presented deeper  with each pov chapter she’ll have. So what should the writer do now?

This is a connected plot, meaning the emotions belonging to the previous chapter are still lingering & needs to be dealt with. There is no stupid laughing & cooking or even dumber momentarily amnesia. Nope! There is this:

-The Art of Writing Slow-Burns: (Lingering Emotions:)

Last time kyo hugged tohru thro the sheets. sth he wouldn’t do if it weren’t for the heartbreaking moment of tohru’s tears & the reason behind them. Why wouldn he do it? cuz he believes he’s the reason of her pain & is setting his mind on leaving her & being imprisoned as a punishment. He  wouldn’t do it cuz he loves her but he did it cuz he loves her. why? cuz love is illogical. Kyo’s heart moved him effortlessly to embrace her & “ his tenderness covered her pain” as the writer put it at the end of ch109.

Last time tohru hugged kyo thro the sheets, sth she wouldn’t do if it weren’t for the comfort of his warmth enveloping her loneliness & providing safety & a home. A home can a person. Why wouldn she do it? cuz Tohru is someone who hides pain behind a smile, someone who thinks she’s ugly & unlovable cuz she’s grieving still after all this time. She’s thinks she’s a burden. But here she confessed to kyo unprompted or advised by anybody. He only asked a fleeting question. but tohru cant hide who she is friom him anymore. Still, he accepted her & tenderly held her thro the sheets & she threw her body at him, she initiated the hug.

The sheet hig is the biggest emotional moment between kyo/tohru yet. It altered how they feel for each other cuz in that moment tohru’s mask fell & kyo was the most honest with himself emotionally. That’s not sth you move from with the stupid ED song. They both try to carry out normally afterwards cuz they live together after all. The slightest touch brings..... sexual tension!!!  it was so bad poor yuki left the house running!!!!!!!!

The writer cleverly escalates the sexual tension as they awkwardly try to find a talking topic, then dissolves it a bit when kto asks if tohru wants to go out together & where, then escalates it when tohru suggests buying eggs cuz she’s awkward, then dissolves it when kyo grumpily agrees but this is just grocery shopping” not a fun going out”, the escalates it when tohru said she’s happy for just bring together with him regardless of the location & kyo looses it! sexual tension explodes!

The target of the slow-burn isn’t the characters... the target is the audience! the writer plays with their emotions & cleverly puts the audience in a place where they desperately want these two idiots together but still remember why they aren’t! that’s very important. Having the readers cheer for a romantic relationship includes the readers understanding the obstacles ahead & how big they are & still cheer. If the obstacles are meh~ the readers will find the couple unrealistic, if the obstacles are so big & the couples emotions aren't buildup properly, then the couple themselves will feel meh~. Glad kyoru survived such writing mistakes both manga & anime ( anime hurt their characters more than their relationship).

-Yuki wants to move on from the unofficial son third wheeling his mom & her man:

The writer jokes abt yuki admitting he felt as a son watching his mon & her bf. I love tha this joke becuz it cleverly addresses the following points:

it is cleverly weaved in with the kyoru incident from last chapter. Sth happen & yuki doesn't know what is & doesn't want to! Yuki represents the audience I talked abt in the slow-burn point above. He is us. He’ll cheer for them to be together & will be so frustrated when they can’t. It adds to yuki confronting kyo at the climax!!! You see in the anime kyo/yuki stopped interacting much in se03. Then tada~~ big fight when it’s a must! & can’t be escaped... Here we still have kyo/yuki moments despite each boy moving away from his issues being the fault of the other. Basically better writing.....

The writer cleverly used this to address that yuki still feels like tohru’s son sometimes despite being more independent now, which is natural as you cant switch ur feelings with a button. But also the writer doesnt stay in this moment long & use it to build the next moment.. yuki/Aya , yuki/machi & aya/mine.... sadly all there dynamics are shortened in the anime like kyoru’s.

-I don’t think yuki/Aya  moment suffered much from the cuts, the entire school parents meeting ep us enough to reconcile the brothers. Aya defended yuki that day & so did yuki. He completely accepted him & stood up to him in front of the mom.

- More aya/mine would’ve been good to see & I would’ve preferred it to yuki/motoko moments in the anime that served nothing. but aya/mine too are stand alone story. They’re the most alike couple in a healthy way. Aya is the guy who protected his woman the most. simply cuz he’s the snake. snakes are secretive. he kept her to himself, even from yuki!!! impressive.

- What I lament from the cut of this mini yuki adventure?

1- This: ( yuki’s facial expressions) This is sth the anime fears, either cuz (a) pretty yuki is 100% pretty all the time, so no expressiveness cuz it leads to showing eyebrows & hiding them under layers of hair is the A.B.C of pretty characters... (b) Yuki in the anime is a prince 98% of the time, except with kyo (they got rid of this in se03 & give them one honest/ugly moment together) & with kakeru (one tiny moment in se03 in match’’s focus ep & then quickly back to prince yuki!)..., ugh!!!!!! I hate how yuki is prince thro & thro in the anime!!that’s why they couldn’t get rid of any motoko content!!! he’s a prince there... heck! school girls float after him the graduation ceremony... what’s up with that!! lol.

2-. This: ( machi with the toy that tohru/kisa/kagura/momiji & kiro like! so cute!!! also, foreshadowing yuki’s future chosen extended family! (his bro & his wife), (yuki & his wife) & best friend/his brother in law! Also, yuki is so himself! no glitters, no bubbles & no pretending anger! <3

Side Notes:

The lovely @mizzraynelly​ made notice kto’s speech in ch109 abt not vising his mom’s grave! Even tho it’s such a minor line, it’s one of the biggest cuts that foreshadow the accumulation of kyo’s guilt towards his mom. Kyo’s thing is guilt towards ppl he loves & fear of hurting them, by keeping this feeling alive in readers’ minds, the writer is making sure that the climax will hurt like sharp knives cuz the readers are on the same wave liength as kyo!!! epic buildup consists of tiny subtle pieces!

 Luckily, kyoru as a ship felt so strong in both manga & anime despite the later cutting half of their moments. Why? cuz the chosen cuts didnt affects the romantic relationship...no... the cuts affects the characters’ own personal struggle... most precisely tohru. Kyo’s own character struggles had better luck in the anime despite the cuts, simply cuz (a) was drawn with very expressive emotions & the anime team lingered on them in his scenes. (b) His character design as a whole was very expressive, the anime team didnt give him constant wide eyes like tohru & didn’t fear expr4essivness will affect for his “beauty “ like yuki. (c) kyo was given one ep per season for his issues which altho not much but way better than tohru (d) most important: kyo’s issues are very universal & very relatable” feeling guilt, mistakes & choosing wrong. That’s sth we all do!!! Tohru’s thing is grieve: this is very personal & most ppl experience it differently. 

I love kyo’s oufit!!! we have a hint of this moment in se03, ep 10 when yuki was fighting kyo... but they made yuki see them shopping as opposed of him seeing them being sexually charged!

I’m so mad this kyoru moment is cut!!!!!! tohru as a woman with pending sexual emotions is so refreshing & underrated in the trope of “ girl saves guys”. Also, it contradicts the pure mom image that’s been suffocating her since se01 ep 1!!!!! oh now i know why it’s cut... That’s why! momma tohru is so pure for such things & only when it’s the last two eps, then will allow her to be a woman choosing to live away with her man by her own desire! Why the anime only allow things ti happen when there’s no escape!!! I’ve always felt tohru/kyo is the type of couple to be expressive emotionally & sexually with each other based on seeing that ALL of their romantic interaction involves body language & I’m so happy there’s a canon proof so early before the future glimpse in finale!!!!!! 

I liked the aya-story, but it felt like the typical “ lesson of the day” formula, so I didnt analyze it much, but I enjoyed the brotherly interaction so much!! It had a gold mine of yuki being himself & so nit a prince! Im so happy I saw it! <3.

Every time yuki looked expressive is a happy moment for me!
