A thing for my Ender’s Game Au which im currently calling the “Drew Brown au”

A random farmer drenched in darkness so that you can’t tell what they look like: ENDER WIGGIN SUCKS

A lot of the (now grown up) Jeesh: (without actually meeting the farmer) COME SAY THAT TO MY FACE ASSHOLE

The farmer now lit up by a giant spotlight that reveals it to be Ender himself (though he looks different enough that you couldn’t tell if you didn’t know him)

Ender did the same thing, he was so broken after battle school.

he walked away, he said no, he built a raff and laid on a lake and refused to do anything.

because he was important, he was necessary.

so the thing he could do, was walk away and what could they do about it?

nothing, cause it was him they needed his mind, his skill, his passion.

he was nessisary to them so the worst thing he could do, the most powerful thing he could do was walk away.

some ender wiggin headcanons

He likes to take baths — he would love a bubble bath! (He doesn’t like showers, I wonder why!)

He sticks to military standards in terms of dress, cleanliness, body language, etc. With a couple exceptions: he doesn’t like to shave (doesn’t like looking himself in the mirror too long) and grows his facial hair out a bit. And he goes through a (mercifully short) phase of growing his head-hair out and braiding it.

He can imitate accents very well and picks up on slang easily, but he has trouble reading and writing. Even in his native language he is prone to misspelling or mispronouncing words.

If you’ve read Pact, I envision him similar to Blake Thorburn: handy, appreciates art but is not artistic himself, appearance sometimes scares other people even though he thinks he’s acting normal. Willing to go for long periods of time just eating oatmeal.

He has light brown skin, dark hair, dark eyes!

He has a bad habit of over-exercising and sometimes will faint after going to the gym

But he doesn’t lift weights cause he heard that stunts your growth and he still wants to get taller

His favorite type of movie is nature documentaries

He has type AB positive blood just like his mom

He has problems with his heart exacerbated by spending so much time in space. He doesn’t live long enough for it to become an issue but he can feel something is wrong. Give me a couple weeks to review the medical literature and I can diagnose him hehe

He also has crooked teeth and an overbite that is never fixed — he doesn’t like doctors or dentists. also like what dentist would be willing to maintain his braces. And he would hate the idea of being sedated and having some professional poke around in his mouth

I love enders game as a book. as a movie, i have complex feelings that are mostly negative.

but one of my favorite things about the book was the fact they rarely describe the characters, and leave the imagination to decide what they look like.

In my head, Ender's hair is dyed a dark blue that slowly grew out over the years into his natural light brown. In my head, his eyes where baby blue and we'll they lost their innocence too quick, they remained that bright baby blue.

In my head, Petra is dark skinned with short ginger curls. And her eyes where a dark brown, the opposite of Ender's in a way that made them almost burn. And the brown eyes and the ginger hair made her look like she was on fire sometimes.

In my head, Bean has a dark brown whisper of a bowl cut. And his face was a battlefield of freckles. His shoulders and arms where the wreckage of the freckles gentle battle.

and none of these are right, and none of them are quite the same as how anyone else see's them. and it's definitely not how the movie saw them. but i dont really care.

ender wiggin would start a twitch gaming channel for whatever game they're hyperfixated on at the moment but then become scarily good at each one scarily fast. everyone thinks they're hacking and it makes them sad because they just wanted to have fun playing video games online. they end up getting extremely famous but also controversial (because of the hacking allegations) and eventually they collab with petra (who plays combat games exclusively but is an incredible shot), alai (who specializes in rpgs but branches out occasionally) and bean (who actually just hacks but it's his coding skills he shows off not his gameplay). they end up starting the most batshit insane minecraft smp in the history of the universe.

peter and valentine are still highly popular anonymous political influencers in this universe btw

i think part of what made Ender's Game do such a something to my brain when I first read it as a 3rd grader was my autism.

Ender thought threw every single thing he did, every single thing everyone else did.

So did Peter, so did Valentine.

I started really truly masking in like 2nd grade,

and for me that looked like anylysing everything.

I thought threw every single interaction every single person in my life had with anyone.

So when, in 3rd grade, just about when I burnt out for the first time, read Ender's Game,

I saw myself in the constant, unceasing analysis, and that analysis was this special skill this great thing, this way of being more than other people,

when to me,at the time, that trait was so much work and so necessary to survive, and that book made it something little more barable.
