it never stops striking me how deeply fucking evil and yet entirely commonplace it is for people to film others when they're distressed and exhibiting symptoms of psychosis in public to try and "go viral." the next time you see one of these videos going around i need you to remember one of the most frightening and dark times in your life and now i need you to imagine having it not in a safe or private place (which you may not even have access to at all), but out in the open with a snot-nosed fucking tiktoker shoving a camera in your face for the duration of it and then uploading it to millions of jeering strangers
#And the likelihood that what you are afraid of is being that spectical#Being seen and made to be something less than human#The likelihood that that idea is in part what you are so scared of is not low it’s quite high#And someone is trying to do that to you#I can not express how glad I am that no one has ever video taped me when I was unwell#I think if there had been it actively would have thrown me even deeper into my illness#Fucking hate videos like that

Less magic schools. More magic universities. Unlearn the simplified models of your secondary education. Discover how to reference scrolls written by a wizard possessed by a different wizard. Identify bias in the voices that whisper from beyond the veil. Have your institution be accused of promoting a Merlinist agenda. Become addicted to energy potions.

my problem as a writer and as a roleplayer is that I always want characters to do that thing where you hold your hand out, palm to the ground, and kind of tilt it quickly left and right to express uncertainty or a "kinda-sorta"/"yes and no" vibe. but I don't know an official term for this so I always just call it the Noncommittal Hand Waggle

imagine how much more fucked up the history of the world would be if eating someone's brains reliably conferred on you their memory and knowledge

i really want people to stop writing scientists as awkward, stilted conversationalists who don't understand idioms or emotions and start writing them as depressed alcoholics who swear like sailors unless they're in a specifically academic situation

"everyone should care about accessibility because most people will become disabled at some point in their life" is a logical argument and I understand its popularity
however, everyone should care about accessibility because disabled people are fellow human beings living in the same society as you who deserve the same rights as you
thank you good night

If I could make folks understand ONE thing about ADHD, I'd choose this:
When folks with ADHD say we're bored, we don't mean we have an excess of free time, or that things are too leisurely. We mean that we are facing a distressing (often physically and mentally painful) lack of stimulation. It can be experiences as brain bees, headaches, messed up proprioception, general stress... Like.. we may need another work for it, sure, but it's not like "teheehee I'm bored and have allll this free time" it's absolutely painful.
While I'm writing this, I'm having trouble eating despite being very very hungry and having like hunger pangs and stuff because all of my food is too boring and I can't stop gagging while I try to eat it....

a farce should go off like a pistol shot, but it's always gonna fly over some people's heads...
tbf i think a lot of the types who say this are doing it in a subconsiously syllogistic way of "i like mash, i like good tv, and good tv isn't preachy; therefore, mash wasn't preachy," which is a logic trap a lot of people can get caught in, rather than looking directly at early-seasons episodes like "george" or "the chosen people" and going "ahh yes, perfectly apolitical tv!"
satire may have a higher miss rate of getting its message across to a broad audience, but i don't think that makes it less valuable a medium for social commentary... its strength is planting those seeds into your brain while you're distracted laughing!
