Happy 152nd Birthday to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia (née Alix of Hesse)! June 6th 1872 🤍
"Many thanks for your dear letter and kind wishes for the birth of our baby, a nice little thing, like Ella, only smaller and with finer features, though the nose promises to be long." Princess Alice of Hesse to Queen Victoria, June 17 1872
"We think of calling our little girl "Alix" (Alice they pronounce too dreadfully in German)... I will add Vicky's name to baby's others, as you propose; and "Alix" we gave for "Alice," as they murder my name here: Allice" they pronounce it, so we thought "Alix" could not so easily be spoilt." Princess Alice of Hesse to Queen Victoria, June 17 + 24 1872

"Catherine II played a decisive role in the choice of future tsarinas, introducing compatriot women in the court. And so, with one exception (Alexander III's wife, who would be Danish), they would all be of German origin. The princesses were selected very young, between fourteen and sixteen years old, still shy and malleable. The ceromonies obeyed a very strict etiquette, starting with the solemn entrance of the future Grand Duchess, until her wedding. The court carriages were waiting for the young lady at the station. On the way to the Winter Palace, where the great dignitaries would be presented to her, she could admire the living barrier of the imperial Guard outlined to her passage. On horseback, the emperor escorted the golden carriage with the imperial crown on top, pulled by eight gray horses. The Grand Dukes followed on horseback, and the Grand Duchesses, in other luxurious carriages. The next stage was a kind of guided tour by the imperial palaces of St. Petersburg and the surrounding area, which was an opportunity for the young foreigner to learn the history of the country. Another important stage of this training consisted of inculcating the culture of the country of adoption, to allow a complete integration. (something Catherine II had achieved to perfection). The future Grand Duchesses were to learn Russian and convert to Orthodoxy. It didn't take long for them to lose all contact with their home country. Thus, stripped of their Germanness, they could become authentic Slavs. The wedding ceremonial remained unchanged until the reign of Nicholas II. After the festivities ended, the young wife found herself closed in the rigid world of the Russian monarchy. They had to give up their personal tastes and erase their personality. Becoming another guardian of secular traditions, she was to become an idol of the nation."
The Tsarinas - The Women who Made Russia | Vladimir Fedorovski.

What is your favorite photo of otma with their mother ?
ooh great question!! A lot of people miscalculate Alix’s motherly abilities and think that she put all of her love and affection on Alexei but that is so untrue. Alix loved her girls so much and never farted in giving them all of the love that they deserved. I think she had a very special relationship with her girls which makes me smile every time I see pictures of them together!
Look at how she holds them and makes sure that they are okay! 😭🥹💗🤍
Also there is this adorable footage of Alix making sure that little Tatiana is okay (it is the first ever recorded footage of Tatiana and it was taken in 1899 in Denmark)
Thank you for asking me questions!!!

"I am yours and you are mine and of this there is no doubt. You are imprisoned in my heart, the little key has been lost and now you must remain there forever and ever." -Alejandra Fyodorovna Romanova/Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt
“How sad to be forced to stay away from her for so long -he writes- Being together is wonderful, a real paradise". - Nikolái Aleksándrovich Románov
These are quotes from letters of my two favorite lovebirds, taken from the book "Nicholas and Alexandra: Love and Death in Imperial Russia", written by ROBERT K. MASSIE. Every time I read this book I end up with a heavy heart, either because of the beautiful relationship they had or because I end up sad because of some mistake that led to their execution in a filthy cellar.
Since I began to love this historical couple, I have searched for some visual medium to move me and although there are photos of the two of them to say the least, the truth is that there are few where they show their love since most of them are formal due to the time and their position. as tsar and tsarina of Russia, but there is almost no content that visually shows that love that is so talked about in movies, series, documents, and historians.
I have already ordered a commission to be made in search of moving me and although I appreciate the work of that friend, it is not what I was looking for while the AI, although it touched my heart, lacked that spark that would make me review in the blink of an eye what those little letters and historical information have brought me so much... Until today...
Lately I have been feeling very inspired by this couple and based on this, the beautiful @littlecarnet she has given me this beautiful gift that not only gave me what I have been looking for so much, but has also created two lethal weapons of love that killed me with a bullet, now I am dead and I write it from a heart that exploded for so much beauty.I wonder now, if they had had the opportunity to have the internet and meet this beauty, what would they have thought and done? Based on what I have read and a little of what I have done with my CH comic, I imagine they were impressed, moved, you had this upholstered to hang it in a palace like a real painting and they gave a heartfelt thank you to the artist...But since sadly they are no longer here, I feel obliged to thank this gift with all my heart and go to fine arts to demand that they expose this beauty. Meanwhile today and in a month or more I will appreciate this with all my heart because this is a treasure...
THANK YOU SO MUCH SABINE!!!, YOU ARE THE BEST, PEOPLE AND ARTISTS LIKE YOU ARE WORTH EVERYTHING!!!, YOU HAVE MY ABSOLUTE ADMIRATION AND GRATITUDE!!!

The first child of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna, born after her mother, labored for 13 hours; forceps were used. Olga weight 4.5 kg at birth.
When she was born, her father said " "I am glad that our child is a girl. Had it been a boy he would have belonged to the people, being a girl, she belongs to us."

Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and Her Favorite daughter Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna
"It was not that her sisters loved their mother any less," recalled her French tutor Pierre Gilliard, "but Tatiana knew how to surround her with unwearying attentions and never gave way to her own capricious impulses." On 13 March 1916, Alexandra wrote to Nicholas that Tatiana was the only one of their four daughters who "grasped it" when she explained her mother's illness. Tatiana "was closest in sympathy to her mother" and "the undoubted favorite of both her parents," according to Baroness Sophie Buxhoeveden.

The Empress (Part ||)
Rumors questioning Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria’s legitimacy have been circulating within the Austrian Court. What do her parents and elder sister think about this? What do they do?
Current year: 1853
Valerie heard her 14 year old sister talking to Her favourite Lady In Waiting in the drawing room of their summer home Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl. Thought it sounded more like arguing to her.
“Don’t you dare make such treasonous accusations!” Elisabeth shouted, loud enough for 10 year old Valerie to make out what she said.
“Y-Y-Your Imperial Highness!….I didn’t mean to…I was just implying that”
“What, that my Sister is illegitimate? That her father is not The Emperor? How dare you!”
Valerie had never heard her Sister this angry before. It was quite shocking, more shocking than the rumors of her own illegitimacy.
These rumors were swirling in and out of Kaiservilla for months now, mostly the fancy talk of lower servants. When the imperial family arrived, the Ladies in waiting had to be more careful about their gossiping and shut out their willful thoughts as these thoughts could imprison them for life, or even worse, death.
Emperor Franz Joseph I was married to Duchess Alexandra of Denmark, who later became Empress Alexandra of Austria by marriage. But everyone close to her called her Alix.
Together they had Two children. GrandDuchess Elisabeth Of Austria who was future empress of Austria and future queen of Hungary and Marie-Valerie. They all lived somewhat happy lives although there were problems in all.
Franz and Alexandra had to bear the burden of ruling an all powerful Austro-Hungarian empire, Sisi had to bear the burden of being heir. And Valerie now had to bear the burden of various rumours spreading about who her real father was.
There are plenty of Ladies in waiting and nobles who live at Kaiservilla and that means that there are various mouths to blab whatever they want about whoever they want.
A few months ago, the topic of Empress Alexandra and her Rumoured lover Count Andrássy was being spoken about. And somebody must’ve put together that Valerie might not have been her father’s daughter.
These were obviously just nonsensical rumors because Valerie was Franz’s child. She was legitimate.
But Valerie herself didn’t know that and neither did all of the servants who had been blabbing their mouths off for months.
“Get out of my sight This Instant! Never Show your Face Ever Again!” Sisi practically Shouted being somewhat taller then her favourite lady in waiting, at the frightened Lady In Waiting who unfortunately gossiped at the wrong time to a footman.
The lady in waiting scurried off and Sisi sat down on the nearest chair and was trying to hold in tears.
“Sisi..” Valerie walked in from the other room. “Was that Lady in waiting talking about me?” She asked.
“Oh Valerie…” Sisi held out her hands to embrace the trembling young girl who started to cry.
“Don’t pay any mind to what that filthy Lady in waiting said. It was all lies and it wasn’t true at all.”
Sisi stroked her Sister’s unruly dark brown hair and continued to do so until Valerie broke the embrace.
“But..sisi…I heard it all…I don’t know what this all means.” Valerie was on the verge of hysterics.
Seeing her Elder sister so upset ignited something in her that is usually hidden away. It made her angry and confused and utterly upset.
“Valerie Sister..” Sisi soothed. “All you have to believe is that you are Our father’s daughter, you are my Sister. If somebody said that you aren’t then shame on them!”
Sisi gave her sister a little playful slap which turned the sad frown on Valerie’s face into the wide smile that would be seen playing outside with her dogs or drawing pictures with her mother.
“You are Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria, youngest daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, King of Hungary. That is who you are and you can’t listen to anybody if they say otherwise, especially the nasty servants who gossip.” Sisi softly placed a hand on Valerie’s face.
“Okay Sisi, I love you very much.” The two hugged firmly again.
“Next time Valerie, don’t eavesdrop okay?” Sisi said strictly, but with a laugh.
“Okay Sisi!” Sighed smart Valerie as she skipped out of the room.
~
Later that night, when Valerie was doing her nighttime prayers, Sisi was informing her father Franz about the events of the day.
“Franz, Papa..,” Sisi spoke to her Father who was sitting calmly on the bed taking his boots off.
“Many people are questioning Valerie’s legitimacy, today I caught a maid servant gossiping with a footman. I’m greatly concerned.” Sisi went over to sit next to Franz who wrapped his arm around her.
“Sisi, you know those rumores are false. I remember the night we conceived. It couldn’t possibly be anyone else. What makes you so worried?” Franz said saying the truth to his angered 14-year-old Beautiful Daughter.
Sisi wanted to say that the rumors were specifically stating that Count Andrássy was the suspected father and slept with the empress Alexandra, and that she never did anything with him except one small kiss, but Alexandra couldn’t say that to her husband’s face.
She loved her father Franz, and Andrássy’s and Alexandra rumoured kiss brought her no affectionate feelings towards her mother. minus disgust and anger, but this was just not the right time.
That was a story for another day.
Sisi decided to tell her father Franz the truth about half of the worries about this situation.
“I’m worried because Valerie was in the other room and she could hear me yelling at that maid.” Sisi was close to tears as she covered her hands with her mouth about to Weep into salty tears.
“She has never heard me that angry before and she came up to me afterword and was quite distressed...” Sisi wept into Franz’s arms while he gently stroked her back.
Franz and Alexandra might not have been passionate soulmates because of theyre different personality’s, Alexandra was Passionate gentle and charming, franz was quiet and charming and courteous. but after all these years of marriage, Franz still loved Alexandra, and the feeling was mutual. Sisi was closer to her father then her mother, Alexandra mostly was busy since she became empress at 19.
“Sisi Daughter..hush now, I will talk to her, I promise.” Franz stated his Daughter in the eye and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead.
He then exited the room and let Sisi undress peacefully into her dressing and releasing her hair from her twisted braids Loosing them to the ground making her hair cover her as cloak.
As Franz was walking to Valerie’s rooms, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking more deeply about the rumors.
Why would anyone think that Valerie is not my daughter?
Valerie heard a sudden knock on her bedroom door.
“Valerie, darling, it’s Papa, can I come in?”
“Enter.” Valerie spoke softly as her nanny calmly put the book away and exited the room.
Franz came in and slowly sat down on Valerie’s bed.
“What’s wrong Papa?” Valerie noticed the solemn look on her father’s usually joyful face. At least he was joyful when she was around.
“Valerie…” Franz spoke in a nervous but fairly calm tone. “sisi told me about what happened today.”
Valerie’s face fell into a sad frown.
“Does everyone think like that maid thinks?” She said desperately. “Sisi says that I shouldn’t listen to them…but I did.”
“Oh Valerie my dearest,” Franz wrapped his daughter in a tight embrace and rocked her around like he did when she was a baby.
“Look in my eyes, Valerie, you are my daughter. And Future Empress Elisabeth’s Younger sister. Nothing can or will ever change that.” Franz was disgusted by these ugly rumors. His heart knew that Sisi could’ve and would’ve been unfaithful at times, and he could’ve been too. But he knew deep down in his heart that Valerie was his and Alexandra’s child, nothing could convince him otherwise.
“Papa is that really the truth?” Valerie asked longingly.
“sisi shouted at the Lady in waiting she didn’t deserved to be shouted at..” Valerie said having Empathy for the lady in waiting.
“Darling,” Franz cooed. “It will forever be the truth.”
“Oh Papa I love you so much!” Valerie gave her father a kiss on the cheek and a tight squeeze before hopping under her covers.
Franz kissed the little girl goodnight and exited calmly.
He knew that everything was going to be okay, and if not, he would take care of it.

I was looking at Tsar Nicholas II’s 1900-1903 album and my eye got caught on this picture.
This is a picture of Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna’s Mauve Boudoir.
If you look closely on the side table, you can see a framed photo of Alexandra’s little sister Marie or “May”.
The real photo is this:
I am posting this because I’m SO glad to see that Alix kept the memory of her little sister alive and that there is evidence that Alix remembered her in a way.
