I was looking at Tsar Nicholas II’s 1900-1903 album and my eye got caught on this picture.

This is a picture of Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna’s Mauve Boudoir.

If you look closely on the side table, you can see a framed photo of Alexandra’s little sister Marie or “May”.

I am posting this because I’m SO glad to see that Alix kept the memory of her little sister alive and that there is evidence that Alix remembered her in a way.

the way la*nyra did not exist on the f&b wiki until 2 months ago yet targ stans act like the show is erasing crucial queer history by "not showing their relationship" and "replacing it with rhaenicent" there's really nothing you can do but laugh

Me desperately trying to find this so-called "bias" it often feels like a solid two thirds of this fandom claim that the HotD producers/writers have towards Rhaenyra when literally every single change to other characters has fundamentally come from minimizing/obfuscating/or otherwise reducing her narrative and overall characterization and character.

Yes, I'm sure this woman who they have invented continual bad decisions, internalized misogyny, blatant disregard for the people closest to her, ineptitude, blindspots, and blatant, borderline unbelievable public disdain for in their adaptation of her character; who's background as a victim of child abuse, of continual misogynistic psychological and eventual physical violence, who's love of both other women and her own womanhood, infamy in her charm and popularity and continual attempts (and yes, often failures) to rise above the positions she was forced into they have also ERASED...is actually someone they're going out of their way to portray sympathetically?

Oh, but they favor her because...idk they haven't shown her being violently raped or repeatedly physically abused? Because you believe they actually think that making her seem like an idiot who never knows or thinks about what she's doing is somehow favorable?? Because it seems like ANY of these changes have actually endeared her to the fandom much less the show's general audience??? I literally cannot explain it most of the time, it baffles me.

I know I shouldn't be because why should any of us ever be shocked by misogyny in media anymore? By the portrayal of a woman for a mass-media (and heavily desired male) audience that's reductive and hollow?? But it's simply unreal to see how so many people somehow believe that this was done out of some sort of benevolence or favoritism. That so many people believe any of the changes made in the opposite direction of, and often active opposition to Rhaenyra's portrayal in Fire and Blood, were made out of some sort of desire to make her a tangibly more sympathetic or broadly understandable character, is something I'm not sure I'll ever be able to fully understand.

Except, of course, in the view that I really hope not everyone who says this sort of thing actually believes; that a self-confident woman who exercises her own agency is such an affront that even an unsympathetic, inconsistent, reductive, and idiotic cardboard cutout of a character is still a more respectable alternative.

His reaction was even worse than she had anticipated; at first he refused to believe it. As he sat up crying, Alice broke her rule about physical contact with the ill and gave him a kiss. Twenty-eight days after her beloved daughter, Alice followed, leaving a distraught family still reeling from the loss of May and now having to deal with the departure of their mother.

i'm a short hair aisha truther though i do enjoy drawing her w/ longer hair sometimes. alec in my head always had, like, "forgor to cut his hair" mediumlong hair and "forgor to shave" scraps of teen guy baby mustache. i do regret not giving him a friendship bracelet to match with aisha though. i would guess vista doesn't wear green outside her cape outfit... the way I see it is, being "missy" is Playing A Role to her. hence she chooses clothing that supports the role + clothing she (12yo) thinks is Practical. and i can have one (1) sophia picrew. as a treat.

Princess Marie “May” of Hesse edit

I made this edit because everyone says that Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna was named after her grandmother Empress Maria Feodorovna. I do think that that is valid, but my heart and part of my brain really believes that she was truly named after her aunt May. May was Maria’s mother Alix’s little sister. She died at the age of 4 years old in 1878 because of Diptheria. Alix was only 6 years old when she lost her little sister (and her mother). She was now the youngest child in the family and she didn’t have that same happiness that she had before. I believe that Alix named her daughter Maria after her little sister so I made an edit expressing my feelings about this topic.

There's a scene in Flechette's interlude where her and Sophia save a woman from being robbed/beaten/killed/worse from a group of men, and afterwards the woman starts brutally beating one of the tranquilized guys with a trash can lid. Flechette wants to stop her from possibly killing the man because she'll regret it, but Sophia refuses to do that because she thinks it's better that they don't take the woman's control away for the second time that night. I think that's super interesting honestly, since Sophia isn't generally someone you'd expect much compassion from, but I think she saw herself in that woman. We don't know much about Sophia's trigger, but I'd wager it stems from being helpless and trapped and out of control. She's a character that lashes out and hurts others to bring back her fragile and frayed sense of security and ensure to herself that she won't be helpless again, and that woman getting retribution on her attackers with violence seemed to strike a chord with her. It happens with Emma as well, Sophia is rather sympathetic in her own way to those who have been put down and made helpless yet fight back, I think she sees herself in them. But for Sophia, she can't lash out against the one who forced her to be helpless (likely her step father). She doesn't have much of a choice but to go day after day without getting revenge, which leads her to take it out on the nazis and gangsters of the city (good), and of course Taylor (less good). I think being Regent'd so thoroughly is probably one of the worst things that could ever happen to her, just because of the sheer helplessness and complete lack of control she had as she watched him ruin her life, and I always get sad when I read that interlude. She didn't deserve all of that. She's not a great person, but she was 13 when she got her powers and she's a scared traumatized kid like everyone else. Idk I think she's neat and has a lot to explore and redeem honestly
