I wonder if STARZ, Sony, Ron Moore et al realize how really lucky and blessed they were in the selection of these two leads. Not only because of the amazing chemistry between them, not only because of their success in bringing their characters to life, but also because they have remained committed to these roles for all this time and supported the show. I also think of how physically they (I guess especially Sam) have worked hard to stay in shape for their intimate scenes. I try to stay in shape , but cellular and flab are as constant threat- and these two are just so stunning and gorgeous together.

Happy 4th of July! We celebrate the birth of an experiment where a country would be ruled by its own people. What courage and faith they had.

Oh, America, you have no damn idea how much you are loved. Let me tell you, from a faraway corner of a very old land: you have been desperately loved and missed for years. Separation was brutal and absurd, and it happened before we were properly introduced. But the feeling never failed. Not one single second.

People as old as my own grandparents waited for your GIs who never came. They waited in prisons, they waited while biding their time with chores as humiliating as standing in line for food, they waited as power was cut in wintertime. But they never went away. Not for one single second.

For we, too, 'hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness'. One of the most beautiful things humankind was ever able to put on paper. Those very words changed our collective destiny, America, just because you dared to do it before pretty much everyone else.

If season 8 is really going to be based on Go Tell it to the Bees, then I hope they open with the opening scene in the book where Jamie and Claire are holding on to their recently arrived family -whom they thought they would never see again. It is the coziest, most heartwarming scene even though Jamie and Claire are silently wondering what could forced them to leave their time. After Roger, Bree and kids go down to the cabin to sleep, Jamie and Claire discuss their joy and reminisce about Faith. They make love in the bliss of this family reunion. Jamie has his family back with him again.

Love, love, love this.

In 1742 Jamie was an outlaw surviving on the charity of his uncles, no money to his name, so sure he would never see his true home or loved ones again.

In 1746 Jamie was sure he was going to die alone, while the woman he loved lived in a different century with a different man, raising a child Jamie would never get to meet.

In 1771, Jamie goes to sleep in his new home on Fraser’s Ridge, his wife in his arms and his grandson sleeping in a nearby crib, surrounded by the love of his daughter and wife and found family. It’s not perfect but it’s everything and more than he ever dared to want from his future; it’s what he’s lost over and over everytime he dared to hope. And now Jamie has it.

Addendum to my previous post after looking more carefully, there is more to this section of the video. I’ve edited the lighting of the video and it appears that Sam not only pulls Cait’s back to his front, but he also gives her a little nuzzle/kiss on her neck! Watch as the white of his face disappears into her neck area (the top of his head disappears and pops back up). At that moment Lauren can be seen watching them and immediately starts fanning herself. Girl, same!

And it is Claire’s fierceness and determination to be with Jamie that saves his life twice on the battlefield: once at the battle of Sarasota as she rescues him from body scavengers and secondly at Kings mountain.

One of my favorite parts of 02x08 “The Fox’s Lair” is how Jamie makes it quite clear that Claire will be with him every step of the way - as he visits Lord Lovat, plans for war, and as he trains and fights with the men. They go to war together. Because he knows that she won’t leave him - will never choose to leave his side again. Where he goes, she goes.

Reminds me of another time they go to war together - the American Revolution, in Written In My Own Heart’s Blood, some 35 years after the ‘45:

We stood wrapped in each other’s arms, taking comfort from our family below, yearning for the others we might never see again, at once at home and homeless, balanced on a knife edge of danger and uncertainty. But together.

“You’re not going off to war without me,” I said firmly, straightening up and sniffing. “Don’t even think about it.”

“I wouldna dream of it,” he assured me gravely.
