I'm currently slowly working my way through the Animorphs books (just finished The Andalite Chronicles today and this goddamn tragic children's book nearly made me cry) and I'm so upset I never picked these books up as a kid, I would've adored them. But I'm also incredibly amused that one series I did imprint on as a teen was Michael Grant's Gone series, specifically for its freaky sci-fi worldbuilding and the way it portrayed kids and teens going through horrific situations and comitting horrific acts without brushing over the resulting trauma and consequences or treating it as just a 'fun adventure'. And then I find out that Grant co-wrote the Animorphs books and is married to Katherine Applegate. Yeah, I can see that.

ooc: call me rude, or cynical or whatever but if their is another one with trevor and phoebe i pray that trevor gets some plot importance and development in the next one. like it also starts off decent for him but then falls off. hell their was one scene in this movie where they were like "we didn't know where you were phoebe" meanwhile trevor literally was no where to be seen or heard from, only to show up in a cutaway randomly. not to mention in the scene where the Spengler fam is holding the proton pack at the end... he literally does nothing but like do a group hug and i feel like that's such a shit end of the stick to give him.

more unsolicited advice for poor girls & queer & trans kids: - do NOT MARRY THE UPPER CLASS GUY FOR STABILITY and confuse it for love. - do NOT have his children without a PRENUP & a childcare & custody agreement set up in advance. - you ARE marrying your in-laws. if they look down on you and see you as unworthy of their son, it WILL impact you and any children you have. - re kids: you are making an economic decision. raising children is a full-time job. ensure you are being adequately compensated. - if you can help it, NEVER mask your queerness for this kind of "getting stable" relationship - it will just stunt you late into your midlife and give you a lotta baggage to work through. -usually rich/upper class guys have emotional problems they will feel it is part of your agreement to tolerate & accommodate. be aware, pay attention to red flags or warnings from friends as you are entering an economically dependent position.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

god i need the algorithm to stop recommending lore olympus to me.
reframing a kidnapping of a woman as romance, and painting her mother as an overbearing shrew rather than rightfully worried and protective, and portraying the kidnapper as sympathetic ... what about my overtly feminist ass makes anyone or any algorithm think i'd enjoy ANY hades/persephone romance retellings.
at this point the only hades and persephone retelling i'm interested in is a retelling that focuses on demeter's love for her daughter. one where persephone's abduction and transition from kore, the maiden, to persephone, goddess of the dead and queen of the underworld, was one where she carries out a revenge fantasy against her abductor... She cannot fully escape the underworld, no; she is death, doomed by the narrative. Underground she will stay for half the year. But she will not subject herself to be trapped with him.
hades dies at dawn; hades dies in the spring light, by persephone's power, and a knife garnished with evergreen thistles. demeter holds him down, and persephone cuts the head. judith slaying holofernes; persephone slaying hades.
#i just cant stand it. i cant stand women simping over abusive and controlling men. begging yall... have some dignity#and i cannot stand women who write stories expecting their love of controlling and abusive men to be validated.#ladies... you dont have to like this........ the only things you have to lose are your chains!!!!!#also i dont like the girls outfits in lore olympus.#i cant be the only one who thinks theyre degrading.#why is dressing that way seen as sexy? and why is 'sexy' for a woman so humiliating and submissive? what would a sexy man wear by contrast?#lets stop treating ourselves as objects. we arent here to be ogled. you arent a sexy lamp. you can stop stop dressing as one.#also no amount of therapy speak in the world can cover up the fact that this is a relationship with untenable power differences#you can talk about boundaries all you like. hes 2000 years old ...and youre 19.#and the fact that all the older folk around her have their worries dismissed by the narrative........... side eye#ladies. sugar daddy and older 'mature' man fantasies are fine whatever. but lets not kid ourselves. theyre not *empowerment* fantasies.#you still dont have agency no matter how much money your boyfriend makes. not as long as it's *his* money.#you still dont have power no matter how powerful your boyfriend is. it's still *his* power.#its not empowerment if YOU arent the one that receives power. i dont care if you FEEL empowered. ARE you? in a material and objective way?#are you truly receiving POWER? or are you receiving gifts? if its in HIS power it isnt in YOURS.#and if you truly believe that there can ever be a relationship where he loves you enough that you have 'power' over him...#you fundamentally misunderstand the risks in dynamics like that. how abusive men can change in an instant.#women throughout history weep for you. please understand that you are not so different from them.#you are not inherently any smarter or better than abused women of the past. they thought they made the best choices they could too.#dont ever put yourself in a relationship with a man where he holds all the power. retain your power.#and when the older women in your life tells you something is a bad idea... run. run as fast as you can. they are trying to protect you.#ill regret posting feminist rants eventually but god i need an outlet

May any person never have to experience a lack of compassion and inhumanity for their own children brought on by another person who ‘loved’ them.
When the facade fades and all you’re left with is the mere bones of one’s foundation, only then can you truly see what makes up a persons character.

There are several factors that contribute to foster kids aging out of care being more likely to experience homelessness:
1. Lack of Stable Support Systems: Foster youth may lack a stable support network of family and friends, making it harder to find housing and assistance.
2. Limited Life Skills: Some foster youth may not have had the opportunity to develop essential life skills, like budgeting and finding housing.
3. Education Gaps: Educational disruptions can limit their access to employment opportunities, increasing the risk of homelessness.
4. Emotional and Mental Health Challenges: Foster youth often face trauma and mental health issues, which can affect their ability to maintain stable housing.
5. Aging Out Challenges: Aging out of the system typically occurs at 18, leaving them without a safety net and transitional support.
6. Lack of Financial Resources: Financial instability and limited resources can make securing housing difficult.
7. Discrimination and Stigma: Foster youth may face discrimination in housing and employment due to their backgrounds.
8. Lack of Access to Healthcare: Limited access to healthcare and social services can exacerbate health issues and increase the risk of homelessness.
Addressing these challenges through improved support systems, education, and mental health services can help reduce the risk of homelessness for foster youth aging out of care.

Moment by Moment
Written 6/13/23
It feels sometimes like everyone else learned to speak the language of the world earlier than me I have known the language of academia You will go here You will go there Here is your 5 year plan. There will be math.
Other people know and maybe i know now, Adulthood? Everything is yours. Everything - The world is your lens and you get to pick the color. You can live your whole life in colors shifted down the color wheel You can live in a moment that you cannot call a job Cannot call a hobby Cannot stick a good rationale onto like a label maker stuck to a Tupperware… I want to go to there.
What is the language of music? Give me that colored lens. The way it moves you The way it can change day to night and emptiness to completion. I want the music in my veins. Let me access it each day
That is what drives the language of the world. Not a plan but the way you color your world so that a day; a week spent in the fog is not a week lost to time But is a week spent in your blood.
Know where you are going but do not live your every moment into the future
Dance.

Empowerment in Slums and labour colonies
This summer I did an internship with an NGO that was extending a helping hand to marginalized groups and was working on improving their living condition. After some research, I learned about Sampark and soon enough I landed in their office in Jakssandra. They gave me an in-depth overview of their work. After my orientation, my one and half month journey with this lovely organization began.
I helped in making a map of Sampark’s creches and workers resource centers (WRCs) all over Karnataka. I also helped in some paper work for accounts team and the next week I went on my first field visit!
Off I went to visit a creche and having not visited a labor colony the experience was a little new for me but soon I understood the working of the creche(day care centre for children of construction workers). I interacted with teachers there and I arrived during lunch time so after a small prayer the children began to eat the kichiddi and the eggs that had been provided. It was heartwarming to see that the kids were remembering god in such absolute poverty. After the meal was over I interacted with the teachers who were really nice to me and very quite eager to show me around. I saw a nutrition chart, a vaccination chart, and a class timetable.
I began working on the map and this was a challenge for me.  But I found this really good tool called Google Earth and this was particularly useful and I created a map for both Sampark’s creches and their WRC’s. In my second field trip, I even played a game of ball with the children and had fun with them. This particular creche had a water treatment plant and clean toilets as well something I had not seen in the Doddakannelli creche.
I wanted to visit a worker’s resource center and I visited the Bankshari WRC and went to Soladevanahalli labor colony. Sampark WRC team member was talking to workers about the importance of getting labor cards and how it makes them more independent and have more potential to grow. This was a great learning experience for me and probably the field visit that I enjoyed the most.
I learned a lot through this internship and above all it taught me how to be grateful for what we have in life and I feel this will help me grow as a person in the long run. I got such excellent mentors and everyone at the office who made me feel welcome. I am going to be back next summer and am looking forward to the challenges and field visits waiting for me!
