Just wanted to add Emily. I can't say much not to spoil the plot, but it's rare to find depicted this kind of female scientist. She started off rather simple, then they gave her complexity through humane angle, like the rest of the characters.

It’s anyone here watching this show?

It surprised me, it has good characters, good plot, it’s fast paced… like there are answers in every episode, but again… the characters and the dynamic between them, I really like this kind of shows that can show you not only the plot but set relationships.

So we have:

Jo! She is the police chief and she is a leader like I’ve seen few times, she is so human! I know it sounds weird, but it’s true, she actually apologizes! (what kind of tv shows I watch that I’m actually excited about that fact?). She isn’t perfect, but even some of those aspects you get where they are coming from. Her dialogues with some of the people around here are a priceless as are her face reactions.

Piper… I wont say much about her because plot reasons, but I like the actress, she plays the part well and it’s not an easy part, and she is so damn cute that it makes the philosophical questions the plot asks very difficult. 

Mia is Jo’s daughter and she is a delight, she is smart, lovely, loyal, and so sweet. I find that I can totally believe her as Jo’s and Alex’s daughter, she has a personality that seems to be the merger between those two, which I believe to be good writing.

Alex is Jo’s ex husband and Mia’s father and he hasn’t been written as an asshole or bad. He is a good father and a good man, things just didn’t work between the couple (for all I know). To be honest sometimes I can totally understand his point of view, even if a love Jo for hers. It’s nice to see that.

Benny is the journalist with the information, the contacts, the first crumb, and zero good luck, I’m telling you… ZERO. They are doing a very fine work with his mental state too.

Officer Chris… look, I can not tell you how much I love him, but is a lot! He is adorable and awesome at his job! 

Ed… again… I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!! My heart can’t take it ok? You are gonna kill me Ed.

Abby is the kind of friend that I hope we all get at least one, and very conveniently: a doctor.

Daphne… She has been like in five episodes for a few moments but I love her ok? She is a whole mood!

And then comes the plot that disrupt all of their lives of which I will not talk because there has been so many mysteries and answers so far, I can not talk.

Gold Tablet from the Temple of Ištar in Aššur, Assyria (modern-day Iraq) c.1243-1207 BCE: this tablet was discovered within the foundations of the ancient temple; it measures just over 3cm (1in) in length

The cuneiform inscription honors King Tukulti-Ninurta I, who had ordered the construction of the temple, and describes how the building was constructed. This is just one of the many items that had been buried around the temple with similar inscriptions.

As this article explains:

Most of [the inscriptions installed in the temple] would not have been visible while the temple was still in use, as they were laid into the sanctuary’s foundations or walls. Tukulti-Ninurta commissioned a great number of objects carrying variations of the inscription commemorating his achievement of erecting the new temple.

The practice of depositing inscriptions directed at the gods as well as future generations had become a central element of the temple building process since the Early Dynastic Period, and was employed to immortalize the ruler by eternally associating his name with a monumental building such as the Ištar temple - a process that also transformed a sanctuary into a votive object dedicated to a deity.

It took several hours of searching (i.e. scouring through old artifact catalogs) for me to find a direct translation of the inscription on this particular tablet, and I could basically only find it in a PDF of an old bibliographic manuscript that isn't even in print anymore, but here it is:

Tukulti-Ninurta, king of the universe, king of Assyria, son of Shalmaneser, king of Assyria: at that time the temple of the goddess Ištar, my mistress, which Ilu-šumma, my forefather, the prince, had previously built — that temple had become dilapidated. I cleared away its debris down to the bottom of the foundation pit. I rebuilt from top to bottom and deposited my monumental inscription. May a later prince restore it and return my inscribed name to its place. Then Aššur will listen to his prayers.

This tablet was stolen from the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin back in 1945, during the chaotic final days of WWII. It was then lost for almost 60 years before it finally re-emerged in 2006, when a Holocaust survivor named Riven Flamenbaum passed away and the tablet was found among his belongings. According to his family, Flamenbaum had gotten the tablet from a Soviet soldier (in exchange for two packs of cigarettes) at the end of the war.

In 2013, following a lengthy legal battle between Riven Flamenbaum's family and the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Germany, a court in New York ordered the family to return the tablet back to the museum.

A New Brunswick man is sharing his five-day experience as a patient at Fredericton’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, describing what he calls a “complete collapse” of its emergency department this past week. Tim Brooks is at home recovering from pneumonia and is speaking out, as hospital officials urge all non-emergency cases to stay away. “The first thing I noticed was chaos… chaos and the looks on many of the nurse’s (faces),” says Brooks, in an interview with CTV, describing an ER waiting room on Dec. 27 filled with people extending to the hospital’s general entrance. “I could see the frustration and the sadness of the nurse’s faces, the custodian’s faces, as they were running around, trying to do whatever they could, looking after more people than they ever should have.”

Nova Scotia Health is introducing new masking requirements for visitors and health-care workers in provincial hospitals.

Beginning Thursday, masking will be required in ambulatory and inpatient care areas.

“Anybody who is in clinical area in the hospital’s inpatient units and clinics where we are providing direct patient care. We will still have masks available at entrances, but we won't be making people put them on just yet in the common areas, cafeterias, elevators, those sorts of places,” said Doctor Shelly McNeil, senior medical director for Nova Scotia Health(opens in a new tab).

McNeil says the idea of implementing these changes now is to get ahead of the spread of respiratory illnesses that come along with colder weather.

“We sort of monitor several different ways to see how many respiratory viruses are in the community. We can look at the number of people presenting or care for respiratory illnesses. We can look at the number of people hospitalized with respiratory infections, people getting tests or treatments for respiratory infections," said McNeil.

"It's usually around this time of year when we see an upswing in that, and we have been seeing that very consistently in Nova Scotia and given that we are looking to reduce the risk inside of hospitals as early as possible."

Dr. John Gillis, an emergency room doctor at Dartmouth General Hospital in Dartmouth, N.S., says he has seen many patients experiencing these illnesses already this year.

“We are starting to see more cases of respiratory illness, Covid is certainly still out there, RSV is out there, influenza and other viruses and colds as we are heading into the bad season and we are seeing a fair bit of it now,” said Gillis.

IWK Health Centre(opens in a new tab) is also reinstating masking rules.

In a statement to CTV Atlantic, IWK said it is seeing an increase in local viral respiratory illnesses, and they are implementing masking requirements to protect their patients, families, support persons, staff and physicians starting Oct. 1. Masks will be required in inpatient units at IWK Health Centre on University Avenue, the emergency department, early labour assessment unit and any ambulatory care interactions.

Although this may be new to Nova Scotia, this is not the first Maritime province to reintroduce these rules.

Horizon Health Network in New Brunswick reintroduced masking(opens in a new tab) for all health-care workers, patients, social visitors, and support workers in all patient facing and clinical areas on Sept. 3.

Some community members feel this change is crucial in Nova Scotia as well. Local resident Shannon Jack explained her views on the importance of masks.

“I think people everywhere, not just in hospitals, should wear a mask now that it's fall. The coronavirus is still around, and masks should be made mandatory again," said Jack

Others feel it's important to have a choice as well.

“It's a lot easier to comply as best as you can than be the rebellious person. But then again, free will always accommodates for people's differences of choice," Neria Atwine.

As the cold and flu season begins, doctors say if you feel sick, stay home. If you must go out when you aren’t feeling well, wear a mask to avoid passing it on to others. They also recommend people get their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations when they become available.

Evacuation centre, comfort centres open for residents fleeing Halifax-area wildfire

An evacuation centre opened overnight in Halifax for residents feeling a wildfire that began in the Upper Tantallon, N.S., area Sunday afternoon.

The evacuation centre is located at the Canada Games Centre at 26 Thomas Raddall Dr.

The Halifax Regional Municipality says the evacuation centre has been opened to especially support residents who do not have family supports or insurance.

FAST-MOVING FIRE

The rapidly spreading wildfire, fed by strong winds and tinder-dry woods, has damaged or destroyed dozens of homes in the region.

Amid thick plumes of smoke, residents fled from the Tantallon area Sunday afternoon after the RCMP issued an emergency alert about rapidly advancing "structure and forest fires."

Over the next six hours, another three alerts called for more evacuations as the fire grew.

Firefighters withdrew from the woods for their own safety through the overnight hours, but are expected to continue dousing flames inside the subdivisions.

Halifax Regional Municipality Mayor Mike Savage declared a local state of emergency late Sunday evening.

The local state of emergency is set to be in effect for seven days, unless regional council lifts or extends the declaration.

The state of emergency will give the municipal government more power to respond to the wildfire.

In an update to the webpage Sunday night, the province said there was no estimate on the size of the fire.

It also said various first response teams were onsite to help fight the fire and with evacuations, though exact numbers were not yet available.

Two Department of Natural Resources and Renewables helicopters and a water bomber from Newfoundland were involved in firefighting efforts at the time.
