So I remember this episode of 'Friends' the character Rachel had an interview at Ralph Lauren. After fucking up her first opportunity, she returned for a second interview. The hiring manager quickly pointed out to Rachel on himself, motioning towards his lip as if to say you have something 'right here'. Confused by the action she storms out of his office. In a different time and place, called Venture's high life. In the thick of my morning routine, brush teeth/shower: Check. Dressed/Made coffee:Check. And had a bit of breakfast; which I never do, so Double Check for me! I drove my usual route to my bus stop at 12th and Poplar. Had an unusually easy commute, as the 23 bus was on time for once. Arrived to work with 10 minutes to spare and I hung out in the break room. Roaming around the tight space I made another cup of coffee and chopped it up with other arriving staff. Tom, an asshole. Looked at me and motioned to me pointing at his lip. Knowing, Tom's an asshole, continued making my way to my work station.  Sitting at the front desk another co worker motioned to me rubbing their lip. I ignored this sign again. Finally the security guard Mo, looked at me with the same pure bluntness I give out like chewing gum. She says, "Bitch, you got white shit on your chin, what the fuck you been doing this morning?" I quickly touched my chin in several places pulled my fingers away to see a white powder like dust on my tips; without thought I licked my finger. Sweet, as I reminisced of the apple Danish I ate this morning. In blink of a millisecond I realized with a slow exclaimed 'fuck'.... Sounding like a thought I reflected on my morning commute aloud, "shit, you mean I drove the all the way down broad street, got on the fucking bus, walked two got damn blocks and have now been in the motherfucking building for 30 fucking minutes Now with icing from breakfast on my got damn chin, and no one said shit til Now! What The Fuck! The room erupted into laughter as well as I once digested on what I can only say to myself 'welcome to my world'...

So I live in a really small, highly religious town, and I also work at a hardware store. A woman came in looking for some stain and I showed her the two kinds we have, SuperDeck and DoItBest. Around the Corner in NYC

I woke up yesterday morning in New York with the New York skyline outside my window and New York and her people on my mind. I turned on Ryan Adams' "New York, New York" off his Gold album to really drive the feelings home of the gravity and the in memoriam of the day. Since I had to play dress-up in the fashion world with NYFW all day yesterday, I even donned an outfit that sang my american pride and spirit because it just felt like showing "too much heart" couldn't be too much - or, enough - on a day like 9/11.

Feeling all in love with New York and proud to be spreading love in this city on a sad day, with that fall-kissing-summer-goodbye breeze dancing through my hair, I felt lucky to be alive and grateful to be here. I was floating through the city. And, then in a New York minute, as I rounded the corner to NYFW in Soho, and saw a couple of cameras raise out of the corner of my eye, I tripped and fell. Hard. I BIT it. On the street walking into the fashion Mecca. I heard people gasp and then just heard horrified silence. I thought, "Dear God! The humanness of it all!" My response? To lie there on the ground, and look up at the sky...and, laugh.

People offered to help me up and I refused and tried to do it on my own - but in heels, well, that was hard. So, I let them help me. Was it embarrassing? Hell, yes. But it also reminded me of how we come together as people when a tragedy happens - even the smallest of tragedy like someone stepping on a crack, and their pantleg tearing, resulting in scraped appendages. But, also bigger tragedies, such as hurricanes and acts of terrorism - tragedies far, far more severe and irreparable than a scraped knee and wounded pride.

I've always had an affinity for NYC, but I finally understand all the reasons why New Yorkers love it so much. Because it is crazy and beautiful and magical all at once, and on any given day, at any given time with any given person, ANYTHING can happen. And, it often does. And, when it does, if it's anything less than magical, these warm souls with thick accents step in and extend a hand.

So, to the guys who offered to pick me up and take me to a medic much to my embarrassment and laughter... To the guys with the crowbar who freed a group of four of us strangers from the elevator in Soho so I could make it to the Libertine fashion show in time... To my friend Danielle DeZao, whom I've only met three times but feel like I've known forever who treated me to lunch and invited me to fabulous fashion shows and guided me by the hand. To Alexandra Arnold and Arielle Arnold, two creatives I met at last year's Modernism Week, one of whom now is the #1 NYC photographer on my speed dial: You are all heroes. My heroes, today.

And, New York, you are beautiful. You are alive. You are strong. You are better than ever. And, I am hopelessly, utterly, deliciously in love with you. Thank you for the best-worst day ever. It sang to my soul, awakened my senses and got me all excited to see what's around the corner today. Let's just hope there aren't more bandaids and medics in my future.

2nd grade

So you know how we sat in rows in elementary school? Yea...I sat next to this girl and we were friends. She was nice. Anyways, I used to buy/get a lot of crayons because I loved (still do) to color things in coloring books, but in those times, I used to have those crayons that were...fat(just saying) because my mom didn't want to buy me normal ones(that's what I remember). So the girl had normal crayons while I had the fat crayons. Everytime she had her crayons out I'm like "gosh, i want them and need them" in my mind. So one day, she wasn't in school and I guess I didn't have anyone to talk to that day...and you know what I did? You know what I did?? I...I stole her crayons and I put mine in her desk so basically I traded... I didn't feel guilty until the next day.

So the next comes and she noticed..she asked me if I had them and I said..."no." So she snitched on me and I got in trouble...yes I got in trouble. I gave the girl her crayons back and she gave me mine back. Then, the teacher walked to the front of the classroom and showed me some buckets that had crayons in and said to me, "here are some crayons if you need them, you just need to ask." I guess I said, "ok."

Guys every time I remember that day, I'm like "V, really?*face palms myself*.." 😂... I told this story to my little siblings and they laughed😂
