Elm trees are such hypochondriacs, they immediately panic and start preparing for their deaths when like… a single car drives over a root 50 meters away.
Sweet babies, it’s not the traffic that’s gonna kill you, it’s the fucking Dutch elm disease.

Stephen refuses to watch The Last of Us because I made him watch The Walking Dead (and the spinoffs) after it got really bad, but I’ve been slowly catching up when he’s at work. This week, I saw the gay episode with Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett and while there were things I didn’t like about it, on the whole I found it compelling for one reason, which is that it depicted two non-heterosexuals who are basically content entertaining themselves with (each other and) various projects (many artistic or artistic-adjacent, like gardening and rigging up zombie traps). They have virtually no desire to join society beyond the little fortress they create for themselves. Admittedly, the larger society in which they find themselves is broken and populated by criminals and zombies, but [you can see where I’m going with this in terms of our own society and how it treats non-heterosexuals among others]. Anyway, I want to see more gay characters who refute society instead of assimilating, which (assimilation or the desire for it) is so often what happens, and this episode to me was a pretty good example of gays refuting society, which is bad. (I mean society is bad; refuting it is good.) In other news, the park was also beautiful today; I could watch a television series about heather and elm trees :)

Beech leaves are simple, alternate, and typically have an oval or elliptical shape with a pointed tip. They have a smooth margin (edge) and are usually toothless. Beech leaves are also somewhat glossy in appearance, and they turn a golden brown or copper color in the fall. Elm leaves are also simple and alternate, but they tend to be more asymmetrical at the base. They have serrated (toothed) edges, with veins that are more noticeable on the undersides of the leaves. Elm leaves are not as glossy as beech leaves and often have a rougher texture. In the fall, elm leaves may turn yellow or red.

More Dunk and Egg fanart, featuring Dunk, Egg, and Aerion Targaryen from The Hedge Knight! I went a little further with the stained-glass style this time, and I'm happy with how it turned out! Especially Aerion's cloak, which is supposed to be fully black if I remember right; I added in the fiery colours just to help it pop XD
Also, the dragons here aren't actually there - it's meant to symbolize the Targaryens fighting (over Dunk hahaa)! The designs are based on the descriptions of their dragon eggs; Aerion's is gold and silver, and veined with red, while Egg's is white and green, all swirly. And the tree in the back is meant to represent Dunk :'''D

Thank you for the addition! I went to read up on this on wikipedia, and what I found was that elm find it pretty difficult to reproduce via pollination, and their seeds are only viably for a few days, in the late spring. They usually reproduce via cutting, meaning one little shoot is cut from the tree and placed in soil, and it will produce roots and create a genetically identical tree. This means that even the small pieces of elm tree are capable of producing roots if they're in touch with the soil, and they're great at growing a new tree just from one part! Sounds like what happened to your elm tree was not intentional, but if you wanted to have genetically identical tree, you could plant these new shoots, or nurture the ones that have developed if they're not crowded, to get a new elm tree!
Another article told me that elm tree roots are invasive, they easily spread around and can even damage the sewer system if not checked, so it means that elm are really great at reproducing just from a little root cutting! Their roots also go very far beyond the canopy, so they should be planted far away from the gardens or any underground structures.
Tell me more about trees 🌳 💚
They're very warm inside, they like the wind a lot!
When trees fall, if there's a percentage of roots still in the ground, they're not dead, they can keep living. If in theory we had one giant human who just went around picking trees up and burying them back down, they would all recover and be fine. I was going to put that in my story when I wrote a continuation of Thornwood! I just think it would be very cool.
Some trees still go on living even when fallen down, they just adapt so their branches become the new trunk and they grow up form there.
The reason trees lose their leaves in the fall is related to the hours of light we have in the day, more so than the cold. Trees do a little calculation, and when there's less than ideal light in the day, they go 'well, this is not worth keeping leaves', and they let the leaves fall off, because it's not worth the effort for that little amount of light. Then in the spring, when they notice the light hours getting better, they start making new leaves, because now it's worth keeping all that greenery in order to receive nutrients! But trees are definitely not 'dead', or 'sleeping' during the winter, they're very much alive and calculating their next move. If you look at a tree in January or February, you'll be able to see them already forming lots of little buds and preparing to grow flowers, they're very much active! And I imagine they're enjoying how saturated the ground is with water, growing the roots down and taking in all they can.
If anyone can think of more tree knowledge on the spot, add to this post!

Okay, I’ve grabbed your attention. I now have a proposition to share. We have lot of Milly and Elliot. I’ve even seen a sprinkle of Bradley and Elliot. Could I… perchance interest you in… one-sided Dom and Elliot?
