Auntie Antics
CHARLEY’S AUNT The Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, Saturday 29th June 2024 I manage to catch the production’s last in-house performance in the Ron Barber Studio before it embarks on a tour of stately homes around the region. First appearing in 1892, Brandon Thomas’s play is a quintessential old-school farce that basically involves two well-to-do cheps at Oxford recruiting a third to impersonate…

April Crowes-
I was studying Russell Crowe's work for a thing, and then I said -hey, why not. I'm trying to see if I can get some very, very, VERY interesting work done, and in the meantime----- YES, it's his birthday today, let's see if I can - try - and celebrate his 60th by making an overview of all his work- the good, the bad + the ugly. Nah or at least some highlights, while I have something else on the cooks. Who knows. Anyway- the following days you'll probably agree with me with what you'll read/see, you'll probably don't--- BUT don't hesitate to give your opinion over here. I promise I will NOT be angry. So- first movie- The Pope's Exorcist.
Yes, I could not watch Land of the Bad YET, and there's an animated show about to arrive with Malcolm McDowell and Elliot Page (which to be 100% sincere, intrigues me much more).
Anyway, as many have stated, what makes this movie is Crowe. As someone who likes Horror/Thriller/etc flicks A LOT, I can safely say this movie brings you the common tricks, I even thought this would be a "The Exorcism of my Ex" kind of thing, but what saves it is not just the performances, but the occassional Mignola-ing. Sometimes it works- sometimes it does not, or at least do not follow Mignola's functional kind of storytelling. (Apologies for my HQ gorgeous SCANS from my Hellboy comics- as you can possibly guess, my scanner is kind of dead, or needs exorcising🤷🏿)

There has been talk that the Astaire movie that Tom is supposed to do would focus on Astaire's early years before he became famous. There's another Astaire movie being done by the og Billy Elliot Jamie Bell that will focus on his years working with Ginger (who will be played by Andie McDowell's daughter Margaret Qualley). Also Astaire looked old when he was doing his movies with Ginger, so it's better if Tom plays a 20-something Astaire rather than someone in his 40s.
Oh interesting.... Thanks for the heads up Anon.
I had heard that there was another Fred Astaire biopic being made with Jamie Bell that seemed to be focusing more on Fred and Ginger Rogers.
So you might be right that Tom's movie might be focusing more on Fred's earlier days? Idk 🤷🏾♀️
Fred was 12 years OLDER than Ginger, so unless they're gonna be putting some major prosthetics on Tom to age him up in this movie, it might be that they will not be focusing on that stage of his life. I guess we'll have to see lol 😆

Chris: Mean Johnny Barrows is an action film with Fred Williamson as a man fresh out of the army and into a difficult world where he falls into crime, an average Willlamson flick so only for his fans, but Elliot Gould makes an appearance, and the best bit might be Roddy McDowell’s characters’s purple velvet suit, Watch: When Free.

Ark: The Animated Series Surprise Launches On Paramount + Today
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/ark-the-animated-series-surprise-launches-on-paramount-today/
Ark: The Animated Series Surprise Launches On Paramount + Today
Ark: The Animated Series has surprised launched today on Paramount +. Based on the hit Ark: Survival Evolved, the series was first announced at The Game Awards in 2020 and went from not having a release date or platform to suddenly having its first six episodes available now in the U.S. and Canada.
The series follows Helena Walker, a paleontologist who mysteriously washes ashore on a mysterious island brimming with dinosaurs and other extinct wildlife. After meeting another survivor and hunter named Bob, Helena learns how to fend for herself in this strange land while encountering myriad threats and survivors from throughout history. While the first six episodes of Season 1 are out now, the remaining seven episodes will arrive at a later date.
The show’s star-studded cast includes Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Russell Crowe, Jeffrey Wright, Karl Urban, Zahn McClarnon, Devery Jacobs, Elliot Page, Malcolm McDowell, Deborah Mailman, and Alan Tudyk. Check out the premiere trailer below.

To mark the occasion, Ark: Survival Ascended is holding a special tie-in event in which players can unlock skins based on characters from the animated series, which replicate the show’s art style. Obtaining these involves collecting a series of notes titled “Dear Jane” written by Karl Urban’s character in the show, Bob. The first drop of skins will be for Helena, Bob, Dodo, and Scary the Parasaur. New notes will appear in the game each Tuesday and Thursday until April 11. Check out the trailer below.

Meanwhile, we’re still awaiting an update on the long-quiet Ark 2, which also features Vin Diesel and was announced in 2020 at the Game Awards. That game is currently schedule to launch towards the end of the year. Hopefully this animated show is a decent holdover until the next big game arrives.
