So  this is totally my headcanon and you can be like

But I think Jonah was quite the dissipated rake back in youth pre institute days. He fucked men, women and those he wasn’t sure about. While he doesn’t exactly LIKE women or men for that matter. He enjoys the ‘charms’ of women’s bodies: Tits, ass, hips, pussies, legs. But does harbor in his heart of hearts some very sexist notions about them. He likes eating pussy, the smell, the taste, the reactions he gets from the person who’s pussy he’s eating. Not only did the beholding help him with this but he has enough experience.  He loves having power over people, which is why he gets off on it and deeply enjoys using his hands and mouth to do so. Oh yes, he loves fellating as well for the same reasons. And while he NOT as unenlightened about men’s abilities he’s a smug cunt who thinks he’s above his fellow man, due to his intelligence, class, beholding avatar and all it entails. Back when Jonah was in original vessel  and young he was scandalous AF, not only for the rumors about  his thirst for occult knowledge but all other things he got up too, drinking, boozing and fucking anything that stood still long enough. All of this was before he founded the Magnus institute. What a busy, busy boy!

His affairs with his male friends, who he corresponded with including the late unfortunate Barnabas Bennett, famous architect Robert Smirke are merely hinted at by the flowery, intimate, homo social writing style of the day.

Apparently he was also screwing his Valet in middle age and attempting to sire a ‘vessel for the beholding’ on a female servant of the beholding…this ended with her murder by said valet and the fetus they created discovered during her autopsy was liberally dotted with eyes… it is one the many curiosities he keeps in his office if you know where to look ;)

Anyhow Jonah discovered through the many decades that his basic drives: hunger/thirst, sleep sex, etc. are controlled by the vessel he’s in while his eldritch nature can provide more stamina to delay the need to eat or sleep but they don’t end it entirely and eventually he will need a meal or a good night’s sleep.

The sex drive well that’s ENTIRELY controlled by every vessel’s own unique hormonal cocktail.

Some have had low sex drives, some middle range, some strong, some have had sex drive and or ability to get an erection entirely disappear with the onset of middle age.

Jonah doesn’t care: it’s not why he chooses the vessel (more on that later).

Elias Bouchard’s body had a very visceral NEED for sex, well into middle age.

Jonah hadn’t felt like that since he was was in own skin.

Jonah soon realized that if Elias Bouchard hadn’t been so depressed and stoned all the time, he’d be humping nearly everything.

So Jonah made adjustments, because when sex with someone is needed at the minimum four times a week or bad things happen, he made sure he got laid on the regular.

Jonah abuses his beholding powers to scan the thoughts of those around him to see if anyone is checking him out.

There is usually someone he finds suitable to fuck nearby.

Recently, I was thinking about a very particular flavour of Monster Jon fics.

The ones in which Jon's appearance switches over the course of the story, ending up without an ounce of humanity remaining into his features, while Elias himself stays perfectly human.

Because in those stories, what is interesting is how Jon will always be the one blamed for being monstrous. It's his fault, he was the one who went down that path.

But just like Viktor Frankenstein and his monster, is it truly his fault ? Jon is like the seven corpses of those men. He didn't choose to be made into the Archivist by Elias, yet he ended up being a part of his creation. The Archivist didn't choose to be made either, but Elias gave it life through years of work.

Funny how, even in canon, Jon is always the first to be blamed, even before Elias himself.

Take, for example, the dialogue between Tim and Martin in MAG 58.

Over the course of this entire interaction, Tim blames Jon for his paranoia, and Martin tries to defend him. Yet, Elias, the authority figure, is mentioned one time, then completely bypassed to put the blame on Jon.

In this situation, Jon is stalking his coworkers. Elias should do something, right ? Jon is clearly under a lot of pressure and mental distress. He can't realistically be expected to take the whole situation for himself because he isn't in a mental space where he can. Elias should be the one blamed for not doing something about it (for example, forcing Jon to take time off until he gets better, suggesting therapy, or sanctioning him for his behaviour towards his coworkers), but he isn't. Tim talked to Elias, but it "doesn't seem to be doing good". Martin suggested therapy to Jon, but "he keeps saying no". Again, Elias should be blamed for these issues, but Jon is instead.

And in the stories where Jon became monstrous in appearance as well, Jon is blamed for becoming what he did, even though it's not his fault.

Jon may be the one who looks like a monster, but he is only the victim of Elias' own monstrosity.

it's 2:30am time for more martin!jonah angsty bullshit

why can't i ever come up with good happy wholesome stuff for these gays. why is it always sad sad depressing shit.

imagine if jon was more competent. a gertrude-like figure in the archives, existing to piss off his dickhead boss and keeping his assistants alive as much as possible. taking on monsters of the month like spooky batman and never fully manifesting the ability to just Know things.

and by his side, martin k. blackwood. employed at the institute even before jon, working twice as hard to prove himself and always able to adapt to any situation. hired to the archives mostly as a joke, and the fact that the lack of any close family or friends to recognise a sudden disappearance made him perfect for the expendable position of archival assistant.

them becoming closer after enduring the horrors together. jon growing from a cranky old man who hates martin to a cranky old man who would burn a city for martin. martin being jon's reliable anchor to the world despite the creatures that prowl in its shadows.

there are two ways this can go under the watchful Eye of jonah magnus, who is quite keen not to have Gertrude 2.0 in the archives.

path no.1: jonah restarts

were jon more competent, he'd eventually catch onto the machinations of magnus. and there's a chance he'd take the same route as gertrude: scorched earth.

jonah, trying to avoid this as little as possible, sets up a little 'accident' for jon once he knows too much. he's irritated that now he has to go to the trouble of finding yet another archivist. and he's running out of time. or at least, elias bouchard is running out of time. he needs a newer, younger body.

and what better vessel than the newly bereaved martin blackwood? his grief from losing jon makes him vulnerable. all it takes is a little lie from 'elias' to convince him to come to the panopticon itself, involving some phony ritual to see jon again.

shortly after, elias bouchard is dead of a brain aneurysm. and experienced, clever, sharp-eyed martin k. blackwood ascends to head of the magnus institute.

path no.2: this one is even sadder

the dynamic in the archives is now more 'office rom-com' than 'constant paranoia'. martin, jon and the rest of the archive crew are always on top of whatever threat emerges next. communication is key, except in one aspect.

jon refuses to examine his feelings for martin. scanning his desk for clues as to things he likes and putting on a show of his appreciation for martin's tea are just normal things for bosses to do to make their employees more comfortable.

martin fell hard a long time ago. still holding out hope after all these years that jon might reciprocate his feelings. after all the office gossip, martin isn't even sure that jon does relationships. still, he brings in his tea in what he knows to be jon's favourite mug, and lingers just long enough for an amusing conversation but not enough to imply that he's slacking off.

and jonah magnus Watches, and fumes. his Archivist, his beloved Archivist, is distracted by this boy. this boy with the nerve to have been underestimated by magnus. and now together they make a mockery of everything jonah has worked towards. meaning that jon now needs to be turned back towards the path of Beholding, and that it's going to take a lot longer than jonah originally thought. much longer than an able-bodied elias bouchard is going to last.

hell, jonah would take any opportunity to get closer to the Archivist.

suddenly, elias bouchard suffers a fatal heart attack. it's been years since jon and martin joined the archives, and despite martin's faked credentials his extended work experience makes him more than qualified for a high-ranking position. in the three days that it took between martin to be named the new head of the magnus institute and his actual ascension to the position, jon faces a dilemma.

he might not see martin as much. he'll be cooped up in his new office with rosie facilitating every one of his interactions. while they'll still be able to talk every now and then, their dynamic will never be the same as breakroom chats over biscuits, or groaning about the sheer number of fake halloween statements every year. so jon makes a Decision.

he races down the corridor to find martin. he tells him how much he needs him in his life, that he should've said it all earlier, and that it feels like martin might be leaving him.

and jonah magnus smiles through martin blackwood's slightly crooked teeth and soft, rosy cheeks, and reassures jon that he'll always be there.

It wasn't much, at first. A familiar face in the crowd, someone out of place, blink and you miss it.

She's sitting, nailed to an incomfortable wooden chair. But her pins aren't metal, oh no, far worse. They're eyes, all sorts of colors and shapes and sizes and textures and wetness, peering at her from above and sideways and below. Right, so, Magnus Protocol thoughts and theories after Ep. 1-2:

But in all seriousness, the blorbos are probably in the Windows Nt 4.0. However, using the voices as evidence is a bit iffy, as demostrated by CAT1RBC5257-12052022-09012024, the first incident in Ep. 1, the 'some of him' line might hint at it not being all of them (also people are talking about MAG 63 - Binary, and yeah, that also seems to work, if the 'icantthinkpastthecorners' from the ARG is to be beleived).

But, there was a clue that I don't see many people noticing (credit to @laughable-umbrella, where I saw this clue). In the TMP trailer, this was on the 'boot screen':

As we can see, two J's and an M. We already have two voices, Jon's and Martin's. Who are we missing?

On the cast sheet, Jonny and Alex have their character names glitched out. But theres one other actor with their name glitched.

Tim Fearson, who, as far as I can remember, has not appeared on Magnus before. We might finally have a voice for Jimmy Magma himself.
